A few years ago when the Spice Girls were
around they were a very mainstream popular girl
group who focused on making young girls believe
in themselves and “girl power”. In the primary
optical area of their CD cover the first thing you
notice is where it says “SPICE”. Each letter is a
different colour reinforcing beliefs that each of
the girls is different to the other as they all had
their own “personalities” (e.g. baby spice, scary
spice, sporty spice etc.). Their personalities are
also shown through the house style of the CD by
the use of their different themed outfits. The
main background of the CD case and the CD itself
is plain white which makes the band name and
the images of them stand out more.

Similar to the spice girls, the Saturdays are a
main stream popular band who each portray
their differences through the use of outfits (e.g.
all wearing different colours). Within the main
optical area of the album cover is a main image
of the girls which automatically creates audience
familiarity as the first thing the audience see
therefore automatically realise that it’s The
Saturdays CD. By the girls all wearing different
colours it has a similar house style to the Spice
Girls CD over as it shows their fans that it’s okay
to be different and that not everyone is the
same.

Again, similar to the other two CD’s, the
house style of the Little Mix CD is that each
girl shows it’s okay to be different by each
wearing different style outfits and each
having different hair styles etc. Similar to the
Spice Girl’s album cover each letter of the
band’s name is a different colour which is
again showing it’s okay to be different it
could also be portraying the girls
personalities as the colours are bright and
vibrant. This also could show that the band
are still down to earth typical teenage girls
who still like to be with their friends and
have fun, this is shown by them all holding
hands as it’s something a typical teenage girl
would do.
