Rotarians and friends celebrate
The week of 15 April, a special dinner was held to cele-
brate the amazing Bushmen project.
We are very excited with the progress of our Bushmen
project! Tara, we missed you but thanks for the ar-
rangements.
We wish Patricia Glyn (PHF) (seen far left) all the best
with the planning of her next trip to the Northern
Cape to proceed with the Khalagadi Trust, the
Bushmen project!
Sesego Cares donated R200 000 towards this project.
Charlotte Khoza (seen above wearing a white blouse),
Tara Ison and Annemarie Mostert (seen middle left) are board members of Sesego Cares and they are
E-Club members. Also seen in the picture above is Judith Chinkumbi, a Rotarian (RC of Northcliff).
300 pairs of TOMS shoes were handed by Rhett
Gardener seen in the pic on the right) to a
representative of the Anglican Diocese of
Pretoria's shelter Itumelong.
The orphanage shelters street children and
other destitute young people in Sunnyside,
Pretoria West and in Mamelodi.
The picture shows Sgt Nozizwe Gwebu receiv-
ing 120 pairs of TOMS shoes for the police
charity centre at the Mamelodi East Station in
Tshwane.
The shoes will be distributed to needy persons
who have lost their all through various
vicissitudes, robbery, shack fires or flooding.
As the frosty mornings dawn…
We bring you news!

time with us here in Cape Town yesterday and
with the students from Semester at Sea to do
the “giving” of TOMS shoes to the children at
our two projects at the Christine Revell
Children’s Home and also at the Illitha Creche
in Khayelitsha. The visit to Nonceba, also
probably left quite a deep impression.’

Judith and Charlotte had such a great day with the
TOMS group from the Semester at Sea. They visited
3 NGO’s and handed out shoes to the children.
Says Charlotte Khoza ‘It was tremendous and
enriching… I am sure the students have had such an
insightful experience, one that they will take back with
them. Thank you once again for this opportunity, it
was truly inspirational!
A Semester at Sea- TOMS
Shoes initiative
By Melcina Nkuna
March 2014
Sesego Cares welcomes 30
international students from the
Semester at Sea to Cape Town this
weekend the 29 March 2014. This
assembly will allow the Club to spend
time with the students as they make
their way to different charities to give
away shoes to the children in need.
Sesego Cares in partnership with Rotary Club Waterfront and TOMS participating in the TOMS “one
for one initiative”. This initiative aims to create an unforgettable experience for all followed by a
passion to make a difference within communities.
Sesego Cares “Lend a hand. Change a life” is a
South African registered Section 21 Company
established in 2005 by the partners of senior execu-
tives with the aim of making a sustainable
difference in the lives of vulnerable people in
Southern Africa.
The ethos of Sešego Cares is hinged on the spirit of
ubuntu to bring together people willing to offer their time, skills and donations to help various social-
ly significant projects in communities across Southern Africa (www.sesegocares.org.za).
“There's something that all Rotary club members have in common: We take action. We build, support,
and organize. We save lives” (www.rotary.org).
TOMS is a company founded by Blake Mycoskie in
Inspired by children as he travelled the world he started
this initiative that matches every pair of shoes pur-
chased with a pair of new shoes given to a child in need
“one for one initiative”. This initiative is known for its
famous name “TOMS Shoes” available countrywide
(www.toms.com).
Rotary Family Health Days -

TOM SHOES ORDERS ARE DUE
There are thousands of people out there who need shoes….and there are scholars
and the elderly who will benefit form the generous
offer and gift from TOMS SHOES.
Please remember to submit your order/request to
Annemarie Mostert urgently.
Remember members……
Thanks to everyone who has submitted
photos...please send more.
We also need to visit the website weekly (Wednesday
19:00) and remain thereon for a min. of 40
mins….and read the topic of the week.
This is how we meet folks! Make Ups such as hand-
ing out TOMS shoes, attending Rotary meetings or
working at an event like the RFHDs are all recorded
The eClub thanks Sesego cares for
their continuous support with the
various projects.
The picture above shows Sgt Nozizwe Gwebu receiving 120 pairs
of TOMS shoes for the police charity centre at the Mamelodi East
Station in Tshwane .
The shoes will be distributed to needy persons who have lost their
all through various vicissitudes, robbery, shack fires or flooding.
The SAPS are most grateful for the donation.
Rotary Cycle Tour: 18-26 April
The first Rotary cycle tour initiated by PE Steve du
Plessis (RC Jhb New Dawn) was very well supported by
Rotary clubs en route through districts 9370 and 9350.
PDG Shirley Downie (eClub of Southern Africa) joined
the tour from day one from the Sterkfontein caves till
Upington (5 days later) and managed the media en
route.
There were nine riders but along the route, a few
enthusiastic cyclists joined for sections of the tour.
When someone did something ’wrong’ the Zephyr jersey,
was handed out. This shows the cycle logo upside down!
Here Rotaract Rudi Viljoen (Magoboeskloof) was the first
to receive it - seen left.
The tour was filmed by producer and actor Gert van
Niekerk and 1000s of photos were taken by Shirley,
Steve and David (freelancer) - as well as the cyclists.
The RC of Potchefstroom hosted Good Fri-
day lunch and the RC of Klerksdorp hosted
dinner for everyone.
The trip proved to be a great success and
folks made new friends en route. Funds
were raised to build a multi-sports field for
an underprivileged school.
You might want to enter the 9 days tour
next year - travelling a different route from
Krugersdorp to Luderitz route.
This is what Rotary is all about!
Making news friends and working for
the community.
Shirley invited one of the riders to join
the RC of Northcliff and Johan has
agreed!
President Sanet van
Rensburg hands her club
banner (Potchefstroom and
Good Friday lunch hosts) to
President Sylvia Knoop (RC
Benoni Aurora) whilst
Shirley and the cyclists look
on.
Club’s treasurer Liana van der Walt also headed
for Namibia and on her travels, she invited two
business friends to join our club which is great.
Well done Liana.
To all our
members
Tell us
about your
travels !
Members of the (fantastic and new) Rotary E-club of
District 9400.
It was decided at the first board meeting – held on line -
that that a summary of salient points would be sent to all
members for comment and reaction.
Whilst the very nature of an EClub means that we are
far apart and seldom meet it is essential that we are all
connected and integral to the affairs of our Rotary Club.
These Notes will be sent by email to you all but, in future, they will also be posted on the Members’ Portal on
the website and you may respond by email or by comment in the Members Portal.
Proposed structure for 2014/15 Rotary year
There were two proposals pertaining to the election of Officers for the board for the incoming Rotary year, they
were:
a. That the current board members bearers remain in office for the following (2014/2015) Rotary year. b. The
present committee and all incoming committee members serve for a period of two years until
the end of the 2015/2016 Rotary year.
No consensus was reached as the Board wished to garner the views of all members of the Club
The members of the board are at present. he first five members form the Executive.
Members are urged to keep up their attendance by logging into the Club website
www.rotaryeclubsa9400.org log into the Members Clubhouse for at least for 40 minutes once a week
and leave a comment on the topic of the week to show attendance. Members need not make a comment
on the topic and merely indicate that they have been on line. This is the only way to record attendance.
This is also a good way to record any make-ups at other Rotary Clubs that you may visit.

amazing projects back-to-back!
A special note from our club member Rotarian
Rhett Gardener
What an emotional experience! I delivered 10 boxes of TOMS
shoes to Volkshulp2000 this morning. Volkship2000 assists huge
numbers of mainly Afrikaans speaking indigent people in Pretoria
by getting them retrained for employment and giving sheltered
employment and other assistance.
A young man assisted me off load the shoes. When he and other
helpers saw what was inside the boxes, excitement mounted. I
did a photographed handover to the matron (attached). The
young man excitedly asked "Kan ek asb. 'n paar vir my ma
he?" (can I please have a pair for my mother?) his delight when
he was given a pair of the right size for his mother was palpable.
I nearly cried with emotion.
These shoes mean so much to the recipients. Wow! I was proud
to be a Rotarian.

  • 1. Rotarians and friends celebrate The week of 15 April, a special dinner was held to cele- brate the amazing Bushmen project. We are very excited with the progress of our Bushmen project! Tara, we missed you but thanks for the ar- rangements. We wish Patricia Glyn (PHF) (seen far left) all the best with the planning of her next trip to the Northern Cape to proceed with the Khalagadi Trust, the Bushmen project! Sesego Cares donated R200 000 towards this project. Charlotte Khoza (seen above wearing a white blouse), Tara Ison and Annemarie Mostert (seen middle left) are board members of Sesego Cares and they are E-Club members. Also seen in the picture above is Judith Chinkumbi, a Rotarian (RC of Northcliff). 300 pairs of TOMS shoes were handed by Rhett Gardener seen in the pic on the right) to a representative of the Anglican Diocese of Pretoria's shelter Itumelong. The orphanage shelters street children and other destitute young people in Sunnyside, Pretoria West and in Mamelodi. The picture shows Sgt Nozizwe Gwebu receiv- ing 120 pairs of TOMS shoes for the police charity centre at the Mamelodi East Station in Tshwane. The shoes will be distributed to needy persons who have lost their all through various vicissitudes, robbery, shack fires or flooding. As the frosty mornings dawn… We bring you news! • 3. Issue 2 Page 3 Judith and Charlotte had such a great day with the TOMS group from the Semester at Sea. They visited 3 NGO’s and handed out shoes to the children. Says Charlotte Khoza ‘It was tremendous and enriching… I am sure the students have had such an insightful experience, one that they will take back with them. Thank you once again for this opportunity, it was truly inspirational! A Semester at Sea- TOMS Shoes initiative By Melcina Nkuna March 2014 Sesego Cares welcomes 30 international students from the Semester at Sea to Cape Town this weekend the 29 March 2014. This assembly will allow the Club to spend time with the students as they make their way to different charities to give away shoes to the children in need. • 5. The eClub thanks Sesego cares for their continuous support with the various projects. The picture above shows Sgt Nozizwe Gwebu receiving 120 pairs of TOMS shoes for the police charity centre at the Mamelodi East Station in Tshwane . The shoes will be distributed to needy persons who have lost their all through various vicissitudes, robbery, shack fires or flooding. The SAPS are most grateful for the donation.
  • 6. Rotary Cycle Tour: 18-26 April The first Rotary cycle tour initiated by PE Steve du Plessis (RC Jhb New Dawn) was very well supported by Rotary clubs en route through districts 9370 and 9350. PDG Shirley Downie (eClub of Southern Africa) joined the tour from day one from the Sterkfontein caves till Upington (5 days later) and managed the media en route. There were nine riders but along the route, a few enthusiastic cyclists joined for sections of the tour. When someone did something ’wrong’ the Zephyr jersey, was handed out. This shows the cycle logo upside down! Here Rotaract Rudi Viljoen (Magoboeskloof) was the first to receive it - seen left. The tour was filmed by producer and actor Gert van Niekerk and 1000s of photos were taken by Shirley, Steve and David (freelancer) - as well as the cyclists. The RC of Potchefstroom hosted Good Fri- day lunch and the RC of Klerksdorp hosted dinner for everyone. The trip proved to be a great success and folks made new friends en route. Funds were raised to build a multi-sports field for an underprivileged school. You might want to enter the 9 days tour next year - travelling a different route from Krugersdorp to Luderitz route. This is what Rotary is all about! Making news friends and working for the community. Shirley invited one of the riders to join the RC of Northcliff and Johan has agreed! President Sanet van Rensburg hands her club banner (Potchefstroom and Good Friday lunch hosts) to President Sylvia Knoop (RC Benoni Aurora) whilst Shirley and the cyclists look on.
  • 7. Club’s treasurer Liana van der Walt also headed for Namibia and on her travels, she invited two business friends to join our club which is great. Well done Liana. To all our members Tell us about your travels ! Members of the (fantastic and new) Rotary E-club of District 9400. It was decided at the first board meeting – held on line - that that a summary of salient points would be sent to all members for comment and reaction. Whilst the very nature of an EClub means that we are far apart and seldom meet it is essential that we are all connected and integral to the affairs of our Rotary Club. These Notes will be sent by email to you all but, in future, they will also be posted on the Members’ Portal on the website and you may respond by email or by comment in the Members Portal. Proposed structure for 2014/15 Rotary year There were two proposals pertaining to the election of Officers for the board for the incoming Rotary year, they were: a. That the current board members bearers remain in office for the following (2014/2015) Rotary year. b. The present committee and all incoming committee members serve for a period of two years until the end of the 2015/2016 Rotary year. No consensus was reached as the Board wished to garner the views of all members of the Club The members of the board are at present. he first five members form the Executive. Members are urged to keep up their attendance by logging into the Club website www.rotaryeclubsa9400.org log into the Members Clubhouse for at least for 40 minutes once a week and leave a comment on the topic of the week to show attendance. Members need not make a comment on the topic and merely indicate that they have been on line. This is the only way to record attendance. This is also a good way to record any make-ups at other Rotary Clubs that you may visit.  President /Vocational Kanthan Pillay  President Elect/Service Projects Annemarie Mostert  Vice President/Rotary Foundation Mark Doyle  Secretary/Club Administration Trevor Watson- Thomas  Treasurer - Liana Van der Walt  Sergeant/New Generations Rudi Viljoen  Membership Development & Retention Rhett Gardener  Public Relations & Newsletter Shirley Downie  International Sue Paget

  • 9. A special note from our club member Rotarian Rhett Gardener What an emotional experience! I delivered 10 boxes of TOMS shoes to Volkshulp2000 this morning. Volkship2000 assists huge numbers of mainly Afrikaans speaking indigent people in Pretoria by getting them retrained for employment and giving sheltered employment and other assistance. A young man assisted me off load the shoes. When he and other helpers saw what was inside the boxes, excitement mounted. I did a photographed handover to the matron (attached). The young man excitedly asked "Kan ek asb. 'n paar vir my ma he?" (can I please have a pair for my mother?) his delight when he was given a pair of the right size for his mother was palpable. I nearly cried with emotion. These shoes mean so much to the recipients. Wow! I was proud to be a Rotarian.
