Change of Command
With the start of a new Rotary year, comes the change of
command. New leaders taking their turn at the helm of their
clubs, Districts and even Rotary International. The changes
that are important to us in the e-club is Rotary International
President, our District Governor and our President. The
changes are as follows:
Rotary International: President John F Germ (Judy Germ)
District: District: Governor Grant Daly (Nadine Daly)
Club: President Annemarie Mostert (Hans) (second term) President A. Mostert
We wish them all a successful year, and may the new friends they will be making along
the way, become friends for life!
Rotary International and District 9400 Themes
Rotary International President John F Germ selected “Rotary Serving Humanity” as his
theme for the year. He says “ Rotary members around the globe are serving humanity by
providing clean water, promoting peace in conflict areas, strengthening communities
through basic education and literacy. But none more important than our work to eradi-
cate polio worldwide.
The district theme for the year is “Enjoy Growing Rotary” this became so apparent during
the strategic planning session held by the district leaders last year. Through all the plan-
ning and brainstorming, the one thing that surfaced time and again, was to have fun.
Members having fun when doing Rotary work, are happy members, and happy members
are good Rotarians!! So let us have FUN while growing our club, which will help to grow
our district and end up growing Rotary!!

2. 2016-2017 Rotary Year
This year is the Centennial
year of our Foundation.
The best way to celebrate
this, would be to contribute
a substantial amount to
the fund.
This can be done through
fundraising, personal do-
nations, and various other
ways.
Should you have a great
idea to how the club can
raise fund for the Founda-
tion, please let us know so
we can assist with the initi-
ative.
The theme that RIP John F Germ has set for the coming year is “Rotary
Serving Humanity” which is such an apt name given that it is the year we
celebrate the centennial of our Foundation.
In announcing the theme, he went on to say that he chose this theme be-
cause of Rotary's unique ability to bring together committed professionals to
achieve remarkable goals. RIP John F Germ believes that "now is the time to
capitalize on our success: as we complete the eradication of polio, and cata-
pult Rotary forward to be an even greater force for good in the world."
Between now and the 20 1 7 Rotary Convention in Atlanta, we are asking all
clubs and fellow Rotarians of district 9400 to join the Rotary lnternational
community in celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Foundation, a truly
significant milestone in our organisations history. Promote Rotary at every
opportunity you get and let's make this coming year a record breaking year
for contributions made to the Foundation.
It is common knowledge in our district that we need to "Grow Rotary", howev-
er what came through at our strategic planning session was that we must not
forget to enjoy Rotary. The district theme for the year is thus "Enjoy Growing
Rotary".
Therefore, as clubs let us continue to be Rotary Serving Humanity and may
each one of us Enjoy Growing Rotary.

Rotary Family Health Days 2016
Rotary Family Health Days is the signature program of Rotarians For
Family Health & AIDS Prevention (RFHA). The program promotes
healthy living and disease prevention by implementing a massive,
annual campaign in four countries in Africa that provides
comprehensive, free health care services tens of thousands of people in
underprivileged communities.
The services include lifelong immunizations to children, such as polio
and measles vaccines and comprehensive life-saving annual screens
such as HIV, TB, Malaria, Diabetes, Hypertension and more.
This program is Rotary-led but leverages the power of partnerships that
include Gilead Pharmaceuticals the U.S. Mission – including the
Centers for Disease Control, USAID and the health service delivery
expertise of their Implementing Partners -- plus each of the in-country
Ministers of Health (Department of Health) who provide services and
supplies at the sites. Equally importantly in each country are the primary
media partners that include the SABC and Caxton in South Africa, plus
other media centers in each of the other countries.

The Tannies of Rose Village in
Rooseveldt Park, under the
guidance of Doreen Smith and
Joan Mooney have been pas-
sionately knitting scarves,
beanies, blankets, gloves and
jerseys for the past seven
years in order to spread warmth
and love to thousands of im-
poverished and neglected little
ones around Gauteng.
The Wool Project, as it has become known, entails the donation of wool by
friends of Sešego Cares, which is then personally delivered to the Tannies for
them to work their magic and produce high quality winter garments for dis-
tribution to the most vulnerable in our societies.
The beneficiaries, who at last year’s count were in excess of 8500, range
from the disabled children to aids orphans and the elderly. This year another
850 items have already been collected and will soon warm the hearts and
lives of people in need. Geographically, the project has reached every corner
of the province – Including Hammanskraal, Soweto, Eldorado, Greymont,
Krugersdorp, Lynmeyer, Alexandra, Alberton and the greater East Rand.
President Annemarie thanked the Tannies for their incredible work, passion
and kindness. She is always amazed by the swiftness at which they produce
these garments and it is easy to see the amount of love, creativity and 5

6. Things Dad Will Never Say
1. Well, how about that! I'm lost. Looks like we'll have to stop and ask
for directions.
2. You know, pumpkin. Now that you're thirteen, you'll be ready for un-
chaperoned car dates. Won't that be fun?
3. I noticed that all your friends have a certain negative attitude. I like
that!
4. Here's a credit card and the keys to my new car. Go crazy!
5. What do you mean you want to play football? Figure skating not
good enough for you, son?
6. Your Mother and I are going away for the weekend. You might want
to consider throwing a party.
7. Well, I don't know what's wrong with your car. Probably one of those
doo-hickey thingies. You know, that makes it run or something. Just
have it towed to a mechanic and pay whatever he asks.
8. No son of mine is going to live under this roof without an earring.
Now, quit your belly aching and let's go to the mall.
9. What do you want to go and get a job for? I make plenty of money
for you to spend.
10. Father's Day? Ah, don't worry about that. It's no big deal!
