The ACA has been fraught with much controversy ever since it has been signed into law. Even
almost four years after the law was passed, it is still a "hot–button issue" for politicians, health
providers, business owners, insurers, and patients. There are many challenges to the long–term
success of the ACA, but in my opinion, the greatest threat will come from the fact that the American
culture has long favored independence and individual choice, with minimum government
involvement. This mindset is what led the U.S. to declare independence from Great Britain, and it
has even defined the Bill of Rights, which most Americans hold near and dear to their hearts. Many
people thus view the ACA as the government getting involved in their health care.
Why do people fear this so much? Many countries, such as England and Canada, have instituted
government–led insurance, and have functional healthcare systems with comparable health
outcomes to the U.S. However, government–controlled insurance in the U.S. has been limited to the
elderly and indigent, through programs such as Medicare, Medicaid, and CHIP. However, even
Medicare has its Part C, which enables individual choice in supplemental insurance. Thus,
Americans are used to having most of their health insurance come from the private sector–by

on May 31, 1964, with the help of two friends, John Saunders and Mary French; and Gretchen Fritz,
and her sister, Wendy Fritz, whom he killed on August 16, 1965. My outside research on Charles
Schmid, Jr. included reading the book, "Cold–Blooded, The Saga of Charles Schmid, the Notorious
'Pied Piper of Tucson'" written by John Gilmore; reading the book, "Catching Serial Killers:
Learning from Past Serial Murder Investigations" written by Earl James; and searching "Charles
Schmid, Jr." and "serial killers" on the Internet. How the minds of serial killers work is a very
interesting subject indeed. I marvel at how a person could take the life of another human being – and
enjoy it. Motivations behind one wanting to kill another can stem from feeling dismissed or

Many people do not even know what a GM crop is. Marlena Liggett states in her article
"Genetically Modified Crops: Sensible Ingredients" that, "Even though there are many controversies
surrounding genetically modified crops, they are beneficial to society, and their production should
not be abandoned" (35). Liggett focuses on the reasons why the research on genetically modified
crops should be continued. She discusses the common controversies known about GM crops such as
if human consumption of them is harmful and issues with labeling GM crops. From there she
discusses the advantages such as herbicide tolerance and insect resistance. She ends the article
discussing the progress that has been made with GM crops within the past 10 years or so. In this
paper I will be discussing Liggett's thoughts about genetically modified crops and my opinion that
her arguments are partially true pertaining to the advantages and disadvantages of genetically
modified crops. Genetically modified crops have their advantages. Some of the major advantages
are the crops tolerance to herbicide and their resistance to insects. These traits were originally
introduced into soybeans, corn and cotton, which caused the chemical introduced to occur naturally
in those crops to make them insect resistant. Herbicide tolerance was introduced to soybeans, corn

For instance, in Botswana (Africa), men have dominant position in sex and condoms are seven times
less likely to be used (UNAIDS, 2008). Research also found that men trend to be aggressive and
sexual dominant, putting women in such a vulnerable situation in sexual relationships, even in rape
and violate. (ICRW, 2007; WHO, 2007; UNAIDS, 2008). 40%–60%of women in Bangladesh and
Thailand claimed to have sex abuse by spouses (Garcia–Moreno et al., 2005; UNAIDS, 2008).
Moreover nearly 31% of countries do not have gender equity law to protect women rights (UNAIDS
2008).Those severe inequity may be a result of preference of boys' ideology. In poor districts family
income is only paid on boys' education whereas girls are supposed to support family (UNDP,
2007).Without basic knowledge, HIV protection is difficult to be obtained by girls, not mention the
proper right defense. All these inequities between men and women lead to vulnerability of women in
HIV positive situation.
It is also noticeable that addiction to drugs is a global burden and causes large number of HIV–
positive individual, especially among adolescent's transmission. Statistics shows that new trend for
drug market has been focused on teenagers rather than adults (Nossal Institute, 2010). According to
Mazibuko (2000), drug abuse at the age of 10–24 accounted for 60 percent of HIV new infectors.
