Eli Lilly And The Pharmaceutical Chemist Essay
Eli Lilly Company (Lilly) was founding in 1876 by Colonel Eli Lilly in Indianapolis, Indiana. A
veteran of the United States Civil War and a pharmaceutical chemist by trade, Lilly set out to start a
company with three underlying goals. First manufacture high quality pharmaceutical products, second
medications would be dispensed by medical staff rather than through a mobile tradeshows which was
popular at the time, and finally, Lilly s medication would be developed using current science data. In
1886, Lilly went on to hire a pharmaceutical chemist which led to Lilly s esteemed research and
development history that they are known for to this very day (Lilly, 2015). In fact, some of the greatest
advances in medication can be traced back to Lilly. Lilly s research and development for insulin dates
back to 1923 and continues to this day (Lilly, 2015). Lilly also had a hand in mass producing
Penicillin and the Polio Vaccine. According to the Eli Lilly Company Annual Report (2015), over 50%
of the vaccine used to eradicate polio was Eli Lilly labeled. Through research and development, Lilly s
storied past continued with the development of some of the most popular drugs to treat depression
(Prozac), diabetes (Humulin), oral antibiotic (Ceclor), schizophrenia (Zypexa), postmenopausal
osteoporosis (Evista), and male erectile dysfunction (Cialis) just to name a few. Through Lilly s core
values integrity, excellence, and respect for people (Lilly, 2015) along

Dyslexia Strategies
Students with dyslexia often struggle with expressive and recessive language disorders. According to
Wilkins Garside they have difficulty with reading, spelling, understanding language they hear, or
expressing themselves clearly in speaking or in writing. There are many strategies teachers can use to
assist students with dyslexia and help them become successful in the classroom lessons. One strategy
that can be used to help students with dyslexia is allowing students to use graphic organizers while
reading or doing an activity. This allows them to organize their thoughts. For students who struggle
with remembering details or retelling a story they just read, the use of a flow chart with pictures to

Socially, this could lead to less peer acceptance. Students who struggle with fitting in often find
themselves alienated from their peers. This often leads to a decrease in the students self esteem.
According to Ryan (2000), they may have difficulty reading social cues. If they do have difficulty
reading other people, they may not know, for example, how much distance to keep between
themselves and others, how to wait their turn, or how to interpret the body language of others. (p.5)
This could lead to problems when the students try to interact with their peers at school. There are
many strategies teachers can implement to make sure all students feel included in the classroom. The
teachers can have those students become teacher helpers to make sure they feel important to the rest of
the group. Passing out papers and supplies can be a very important job in the eyes of the students. This
leads them to feel more comfortable and needed in the classroom setting. According to Ryan (2000),
while they might feel excluded from their peers, they also struggle with finding the right words to say
and may pause before answering direct questions (p.5). Adequate verbal communication is a key part
of building relationships among their peers. The lack of this puts students at a great disadvantage, as
they grow older. How can a teacher help students overcome this difficulty? To avoid having students

Surveillance Program Unethical Use Of Computer
Programs created by US Government to invade people s privacy
It is primary mission that governments protect its people, and this protection includes using some
software programs to monitor suspicious activities that could be caught on the web or from telecom
communications. However, would this act invade people s privacy? Would these programs restrict the
people freedom? Is this program unethical use of computer?
There has been a case similar to that situation when the US government used national security
surveillance programs for the intent to protect Americans from terrorism and cyber attacks. These
surveillance programs were initiated by NSA to spy on telecommunication data and the internet
activities. However, these programs were created for the purpose of maintaining the security of
people. These programs are effective tools to confront the terrorist threat that the government been
fighting. It gather and analyze communicated information on different mediums to find out if there is
something suspicious then it tracks it to ease the national security job to stop newly discovered crimes
and terrorists attacks.
According to NSA agency, these surveillance programs do not cause harm to people nor takeout is
their privacy, the benefit of these programs is huge, because it check millions of data points and only
what seems to be threat to the national security. It work as magnifier of the possible threats allowing

A Look At The Problem
A look at the problem
On further analysis, the book makes it apparent that there is an inherent tendency towards individual
gains over the health of the market. As a result, it is easy for big business to direct their resources
towards frustrating the efforts of their smaller compatriots in a bid to secure profits. Moreover, this
behavior contrasts with the needs of a stable market whereby individuals can benefit from their ability
to identify lucrative offers before the competition. Rather, the current system allows larger trading
firms to piggyback on the system and contravene on its demand for equitable access to resources by
capitalizing on the lack of legislation and the relative newness of the technologies involved. For
instance, the justice system had mixed reactions when dealing with issues such as ownership of coding
resources such as in Sergey Aleynikov s case, which necessitates a change in the legal frameworks
surrounding the stock trading system. The system is quick to defend the rights of these firms but fails
in regulating their competitiveness since they beat the system and create an environment where they
profit even if they are not the first to identify stock on which they might make profits.
In the course of the book, Lewis introduces the notion of equitable access that renders the HFT
systems obsolete since it aggregates purchase requests into a stream that reaches the destination
simultaneously. This system, aptly named the Investors Exchange (IEX),

Rebirth In Hinduism
When the charioteer of Prince Arjuna, Krishna (who is an avatar of the god Vishnu), tries to convince
the prince to fight against his own relatives, he invokes some of the core concepts of Hinduism, such
as karma, dharma, samsara, and brahman.
The avatar Krishna brought up Hindu concept of atman saying, the Eternal [atman] in man cannot die .
Hindus believe in brahman, the essence of life. The brahman in humans is the soul, or atman. As
opposed to the human body, the atman is eternal. The ultimate goal in Hinduism is to achieve moksha,
or reunion with brahman. But it takes multiple lifetimes to achieve moksha, so Hindus believe in
samsara, or rebirth. After the physical death of the human body, the atman then takes another form and
Krishna reminds Arjuna of this by saying, As...our mortal body wanders on in ... Show more content

A person has a higher chance of being united with brahman if they build up good karma throughout
their lifetime. In order to build up good karma, one must fulfill his or her dharma. Krishna repeatedly
invokes this concept of dharma. Karma is a person s actions which, if used to fulfill their dharma, lead
to good karma. Good karma results in the person s atman being reincarnated in a higher being, and so
is therefore closer to achieving the ultimate goal of moksha, or reunion with the divine. Since Prince
Arjuna is a warrior, his duty is to fight. Krishna invokes this by saying Think thou of thy duty and do
not waver. Not fulfilling one s dharma means that person will get bad karma, and therefore be farther
away from achieving the Hindu goal of moksha. Since Arjuna s duty is to fight, him not fighting, even
if it means killing his own relatives, is him not fulfilling his dharma.

Unit 18 Database Design Oliver Taylor Resubmission
Unit 18
Task 1 What are the benefits of a relational database?
A benefit of a relational database would be that the data is only stored once. This means you don t
have to change multiple records and it doesn t take up much storage space. For the veterinary practise
this is ideal for them, as this is the main reason to why they re changing from paper to Microsoft
Access. Having everything on Access and not on paper means they can search for information quicker
through the search bar and also it can all be stored on a hard drive. This will save money on buying
filing cabinets, on storage space, time spent looking for information and on buying materials such as
paper and ink.
Another benefit would be its more secure. This is because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the field size is 70 , that means the user can input up to 70 letters, numbers or symbols. It s
important that you change it field size if it s the automatically the appropriate size. This is because if
you have a field size of 70, that ll take up 70 bytes of storage, which by itself isn t a lot, but over a
massive database that ll take up a lot of room. So for a First Name for example, instead of leaving it as
70, it should be changed to around 10 15.
One to One relationship
A one to one relationship in a database is where each row in a database is linked with another
database. Only one can be linked with another from another table. For example in Table A and Table
B, each row in Table has to be linked with another row in Table B. In each of them, they must have the
same number of rows, otherwise it won t work. This does make it sound like you could just merge the
two tables into one, which in theory is true. But the advantage of having two separate tables is that if
you have columns of data that you don t often use then you can separate them into another table. This
will make information in the primary table easier to read as it will only have the relevant information
in it.
One to many relationships
A one to many database relationship is where each row in a table can be related to many other rows in
another table. With being able to do this you can use frequently used data from one data and reference

Coming From Childhood Into Womanhood
In Coming to age in Mississippi Moody describes her life from childhood into Womanhood in rural
Mississippi. Her autobiography provides incite into the atrocities committed in the south due to racism
and prejudice. Moody illustrates how the economic, and social injustices of the 1940s and 50s plagued
her childhood. Inspiring her to make a change as a leading advocate during the Civil Rights
Movement. From her earliest memories Moody recognized the color of skin would dictate her
finances. In the first chapter of her autobiography, moody describes the rickety one bedroom shack
that was up on the hill with Mr. Carters big white house . her sharecropping family lived in when she
was four years old. Throughout her adolescence Moody continued living in small, old homes, until
Raymond builds the family a five bedroom home, none the less the bathroom was still outdoors.
Moody s incite of the economic contrast between the whites and blacks of her town increases when
she works white homes and observes the differences. Ms. Ola s bathroom was a subject of awe for
moody as a young girl, the white bathtub and soft pink rug seemed luxurious to Moody who bathed in
a tin tub moody uses a metal tub to bathe in, so the porcelain white bathtub truly seemed luxurious to
Moody. Similarly, to Moody s less than suitable living conditions Moody and her family suffered from

While visiting Hannah Hall at Texas Southern University, I saw several murals that spoke to me. One
mural in particular depicted the perfect image of distraught, anguish, and the depression Olaudah
experienced. The mural is very dark, the artist uses shadow and light to distinguish the intense
emotions of one face in three stages of grief. The background is dark, this suggests that the artist is in
a state of depression. There is a hand that is larger than the figures in scale, reaching out and grabbing
a figure of a man in deep thought. This represents God testing Olaudah s faith with trials and
tribulations. When reading The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Gustavus Vassa the African Written

The Ethics and Morals of Abortion Abortion, as it is, is a method to terminate a pregnancy by
removing a fetus or an embryo out of the woman s uterus. It is one of the most controversial
problematic issues that is discussed throughout the decades. The topic of abortion was considered as a
social issue that soon became a political and ethical subject. Abortion have become a heated public
distribute on whether its method are morally permissible or not? Individuals have voiced the benefits
and disadvantages of abortion. The extremists of preserving life also known as pro life position
believes that banning abortion in all circumstances is the right thing to do. On the other hand, the
extreme advocates of free choice or pro choice believes that the law should not restrict a woman from
making her own decisions. In the contemporary society, each lives are important; however, women

The Bridge Of Understanding For The British
If there was a disconnection between the East and West, then Lawrence was the bridge of
understanding for the British. It was shown even from the beginning how he could and would be the
perfect middle man for the British and the Arab people. In his humble start Lawrence studied history
and archeology at Oxford, and participated in an archeological dig in Syria, studying from 1910 1914.
While studying in Syria he learned an extensive amount about Middle Eastern culture and learned the
Arabic language that would aid him in later years. Showing a man eager to learn and with a deep love
of knowledge and curiosity. It is these qualities that allow Lawrence to immerse himself so deeply into
the culture when he works with the Arabs. It also makes it so much easier for him to be sympathetic
toward their plight. War broke out at the end of his studying. He at this time had returned home and
felt the need to protect his homeland. Because his past studies, in December of 1914 was sent to Cairo

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Alzheimer s Disease
Aging is an inevitable process that every human being goes through. It is very important to see how
people change as they age and the various experiences they go through. One of the most common
diseases among older people is dementia. Among the different types of dementia, the most prevalent
one is Alzheimer s disease (AD). It is important to look at all of the signs and symptoms of each type
of dementia to see which specific type best describes a person s condition. There is one patient in
particular, Betty, who has many signs and symptoms related to dementia. Betty is a 65 year old
woman who has dementia running in her family. She has been living at home with her husband,
Robert, who is 70 years old. The physicians are doing many tests to see which specific type of
dementia Betty exhibits. After looking at each type of dementia and its signs and symptoms, it is fairly
easy to tell which disease best describes her condition. Examining the various biological theories of
aging is also very important because it helps to better understand dementia and how it affects older
people in their lives. Overall, it important to look at all of the signs and symptoms of all of the types of
dementia, along with the biological theories of aging, to see if an individual has any disease and the
severity of it.

Maltese Falcon Movie Book Comparison Essay
Solon Bowden
2/9/08 Paul K.
The Maltese Falcon Comparison
Samuel Spade of The Maltese Falcon novel by Dashiell Hammett is quite different from Samuel
Spade of The Maltese Falcon motion picture. The book was written a good decade before that version
of the movie was produced and in a much more casual time period. The novel focuses on making Sam
out to be a more complex character than the movie does. He is not just the good guy as he is portrayed
more so in the movie. The time period may have had a lot to do with the differences between the 1941
movie and the book, published in 1929. The first thing to consider is that the late 1920 s were a much
more relaxed, party era, while the early 1940 s were an era of strict decorum. While ... Show more

Another striking difference between the novel and the film is the portrayal of the femme fatale
antihero Brigid O Shaughnessy. The book, once again in stride with the time period it was published
in, portrays her as a very sexually charged woman, someone who is without a doubt willing to use her
sexuality to her advantage in any situation. An example of her comfort with her sexuality is seen when
she strips in a bathroom for Spade and In her mien was pride without defiance or embarrassment
(196). The movie, however, shows her in a more traditional role of a woman, someone who uses her
femininity to her advantage, playing the poor helpless girl more often. Instead of having Brigid strip in
the movie, she merely pleads with Sam, begging him to believe that she did not take the money. In its
entirety, The Maltese Falcon novel reflects a more evolved character in both Sam Spade and Brigid O
Shaughnessy. Each character is real enough to know that right decisions aren t always clear and that
sometimes no one can be trusted, as is seen when Spade searches Brigid s room or strip searches her.
While the Sam Spade of the movie still reserved his doubts about people he met, he was a much less
multi faceted character, one who could still make all the right choices and by the end of the story save
the day. At the same time, the novel begs the question by the end of the story did Sam Spade make the
right decision? The

Wave Surfing Research Paper
He enalu
The term He enalu translates to wave sliding. He e is the change from solid to liquid and Nalu refers to
the surfing motion of the wave. Surfing first originated in Western Polynesia over three thousand years
ago. In the beginning surfing was not an activity, but an easy way of getting around in the water. The
first surfers were fisherman who discovered riding waves as an efficient method of getting to shore
with their catch. It then transformed from becoming an everyday work method to something to do to
pass time. Surfing has come a long way, evolving from its origins into what it is now.

it was a chance to show off. The chiefs could demonstrate their skill and comonomers would be given

African American Music In The 1960s
A time of disruption in: society, fashion, mindsets and music epitomised the United States in the
1960s. Before the mid 1960s, music still mirrored the sound, stylistic traits and views of the prior
decade. Many of the popular records were by artists who had found mainstream success in the 1950s,
such as Ray Charles, Elvis Presley and Bill Haley his Comets. From the mid 1960s onwards, a number
of social influences changed what popular music was and introduced us to the miscellany that even
today we experience with music. The assassination of President Kennedy (1963), the intensification of
the Vietnam War (1965 1973) and the advancement of the Civil Rights Movement (1963) all had a
significant impact on the disposition of American culture and the music began to reflect that. (Holz,
2010) One of the artists that erupted at this pivotal time was James Brown. Rather than the backbeat
that characterised African American music, James Brown developed his signature groove that
accentuated the downbeat. Heavy emphasis was put on the first beat and in some cases the third beat
of every measure to form his characteristic sound. (Parker and Gross, 1989) This one, three beat
propelled the stint in James Brown s signature music style with I Got You (I Feel Good) (1965) being

St. Louis. What St. Louis is metaphorically saying that Mary, Our Blessed Mother, is the air that we
take in to replenish and refresh our lives. Not only in an internal sense, inhaling and exhaling our
lungs to keep our circulatory system continuous, but in the figurative sense that She, Our Lady, is the
everlasting breath of Salvation that we partake every moment of our lives. You cannot get to Jesus
without Her, (Mr. Berube). To become truly Catholic and to love Jesus tenderly, one must love and
accept Mary first. Only through the Blessed Mother can we obtain heaven for, without Jesus and

payee. We also have to consider why the payee used the services of a check cashing establishment in
the course of conducting his business. Also, it is important to review the provisions that should be met
when an entity tries to assert a protection as a holder in due course. Was Any Kind Checks an HDC in
this case? This depends on what responsibility they had in accepting the negotiable instrument from
Mr. Guarino. Did they exercise due ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Any Kind Checks did not have prior notice of the check being dishonored by Mr. Talcott when
Guarino attempted to cash it. However, because of its value, they show that they had reason to contact
the maker for approval. It is also reasonable for Any Kind to take Mr. Guarino s actions as suspect. As
is pointed out in the brief, why would a small business owner, particularly one who is a broker of
investments, utilize a check cashing business for this transaction rather than a traditional financial
institution? This question in and of itself should give cause for concern to Any Kind considering their
policy that any check over $2,000 requires approval. A revision to Article 3 of the UCC added a
provision for not only honesty in fact, but also for the observance of reasonable commercial standards
of fair dealing. Because a reasonable party could reasonably consider Guarino s actions as suspect,
and outside of the commercial standards of fair dealing, the burden of proof is significantly higher in
showing good faith and fairness toward all parties (including the maker of the instrument).
We have another example in this situation to look at when analyzing if Any Kind took such care in this
case. When attempting to cash the second check, Any Kind felt it was necessary to speak with the
Maker prior to taking action. Any Kind would not cash the check for Guarino without speaking with
Mr. Talcott. Once they received approval from Talcott, and were not advised of any action

Teaching Styles, Learning Styles, and Cultural Location in...
Teaching Styles, Learning Styles, and Cultural Location in Relation to Academic Success The
mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great
teacher inspires. William Arthur Ward. Every teacher is different and teaches differently, but when it
comes to academic success of students, how do the teaching styles affect the overall outcome of the
student success. Although teaching styles and learning styles have a massive role to play and academic
success, so does cultural location. Teaching styles will form students learning behavior and how they
see their future. Teaching styles meshed with learning style of an individual student is the biggest
predictor of students academic success in all cultural locations. There are many ideas for what happens
in the classroom although many believe that teaching styles will affect the academic success within a
classroom based upon a teacher and his or her own beliefs and influences. We all have our own beliefs
and values which may be different from another s. Because beliefs influence teacher action, and
context influences beliefs, it seems logical that national context would influence teachers use of and
beliefs about Mosston s Spectrum of Teaching Styles. (Kitsantas, Panagiota). Every teacher has a
different form of influence and that influence will affect their own personal teaching style. Due to this
not every single teacher has the same ways of teaching. Sometimes unknown to the

Spending Time With My Family
Spending time with my Family during the weekends
The most important thing for me in my life is my family. Although we are separated during the week,
we would hardly see each other. Deep down, they are the reason why I look forward to Fridays and
Sundays. These days are not Just any ordinary day for my family because we get to come to gather
and have fun we bond as any other normal family dose. Another reason why my family is important to
me is because my mother is my motivation to finish the week she is the first person I see in the
morning and the last person I see at night.
My Mother and I are the only ones that live in Storm Lake, so it is very hard and stressful sometimes
because we really do not see each other due to her working schedule. My mother works from 8:00 AM
to 9:00 pM, every week except on Fridays. So during the rest of the week, I feel like I am alone all the
time.
Every day, I do the same thing, get out of school and go home. The house would feel so empty and
silenced. Just me with my soul normally feeling bored and depressed It s all that comes to my mind
when there is no one to talk to. Mondays for me are the longest I feel that the day won t even end from
all the chores I have to do; taking out the trash , washing the dishes to making dinner. Everything is
done by the time my mother comes home so she won t have to worry about it. When my mom comes
home, we sit near the table and eat food from there we say our good nights and set off to go to

Black Culture In Africa
Black culture derives from interpretations of traits and other things from Africa.
Africa is continuously recreated and then reconstructed.
African culture is always abused by a large array of different people.
Africa is essential to the making of popular culture, black culture, and new religious systems with
fused roots.
Africa is also essential to the imagery of a modern nation.
The result of Africa being a contest icon is a struggle between white intellectuals, black leaders,
popular and elite culture, conformity and protest, and political ideas developed in the west and their
reinterpretation in Latin America to claim it.
A Brazilian system of race relations creates a uniquely Brazilian Africa that hold both protest and
conformation.
In Brazil, areas like the state of Bahia and the region around the city of Salvador have maintained
African Traits in its black culture.
In Bahia, a debate between modern sociologist and anthropologist took place. This debate discussed
whether or not black culture originated in the 1930 s and if contemporary black culture should be read
as the survival of black culture or a creative adaptation to racism. (Middle of page 2)
There is no cohesive ethnic community in Brazil despite the fact that the black Bahian culture has
recognition, even by institutions
Brazil received the largest number of African slaves before the abolition in 1888, mainly due to the
proximity between Brazil and Africa, the poor living conditions

Atlanta Mascots Case Study
Prior to the organization s move to Washington in 1937 they were formerly known as the Boston
Braves. In order to avoid confusion with the Boston Braves in Major League Baseball (now known as
the Atlanta Braves), following their inaugural season in the NFL the organization decided to change
the name to the Boston Redskins. Obviously a couple seasons later becoming the Washington
Redskins (Shapira, 2016). The entire culture around the team was/is revolved around the history of
Native Americans, including their two feathered Native American warrior logo, their fight song titled
Hail to the Redskins , their Native American focused half time shows (All Indian Half Time Marching
Band and Pageant), and their game day program subsections titled On the Warpath and Teepee Talk
(Shapira, 2016).
Inevitably many Indigenous people found the term Redskin and the Redskin s activity extremely
offensive. This resulted in rallying in order to encourage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The controversy behind the mascot dates back decades, beginning in 1972 Native American leaders
urged former team President Edward Bennett Williams to lose the Redskin mascot. These delegations
were ineffective in changing the name. However, they were somewhat affective and resulted in the
lyrics of their fight song changing from Scalp um to Beat em (Shapira, 2016). The controversy died
down until recent years with recent up rise regarding the mascot. The consensual argument of rallying
Native Americans can be summed up by one statement by a respondent regarding the term, ... a racist

St Patrick s Day Essay
10 Things You Did Not Know About St. Patrick s Day
St. Patrick s Day is a day where we celebrate the Irish heritage and it is often known as the day when
non Irish people are Irish for a day . For a lot of people it is an excuse to have a good time and dress
up in green clothes, drink green beer and drinks or dress up like a full fledged leprechaun. Most
people do not know the true meaning of the day nor why more exactly it is celebrated. Here are ten
things I bet you didn t know about St. Patrick s Day.
March 17th The death day of Patrick
March 17th is the day when Patrick died. St. Patrick is a saint of the Catholic Church and March 17th
is his holy day; the day he died and went to heaven. He spent his life converting pagans of Ireland ...

Patrick s Day has a strong political history
In the middle of the 19th century the Irish suffered from discrimination much like that of the African
Americans. In some cases the prejudice against the Irish was fiercer even. The Irish immigrated in
great numbers to the US and due to their culture, Catholic faith and the poor conditions in Ireland they
were considered to be potentially disloyal and were thus treated very poorly. As a way to battle this
they began organizing themselves politically and by the end of the 19th century St. Patrick s Day was
a grand holiday for the Irish as well as a day for them to demonstrate their political and social might.
The political purpose of the holiday faded along with the discrimination but to this day the holiday
remains as a day full of festivities for everyone regardless of one s cultural background.
Up until 1970 St Patrick s Day was a sober holiday in Ireland
The colour green and drinking are two to things most associated with St. Patrick s Day however due to
Irish law all the pubs were shut during that day. That meant neither beer nor alcohol of any kind for
the celebrants. The law was changed in 1970 when it was reclassified as a national holiday with all

Theories Of Primary Language Acquisition
Two theories of primary language acquisition emerged from 1950s psychological research: B.F.
Skinner s behaviorist theory and Noam Chomsky s biological theory of language development.
Primary language acquisition addresses specifically the way in which an infant s native language is
beginning to form, starting at birth. Primary language acquisition continues to develop throughout the
rest of childhood within the critical period.
Skinner argued that children acquire and develop language based purely on the behaviorist theory,
which states behaviors are developed and focused around conditioning. If a certain behavior produces
a positive outcome, the individual is more likely to repeat that behavior. However, if a certain
behavior produces a negative outcome, the individual is less likely to repeat that specific behavior.
Conditioning, whether classical or operant, was the sole basis on which children acquired language. In
his Verbal Behavior, Skinner gives the following example: Out! Has the same ultimate effect as
turning the knob and pushing against the door. The explanation of both behaviors is the same.
(Skinner, 1949, p. 35) In this form of operant conditioning, Each response is acquired and continues to
be maintained in strength because it is frequently followed by an appropriate consequence. (Skinner,
1949, p. 35) Because Out! is followed by the appropriate consequence, i.e., successfully opening and
leaving through the door, the behavior is likely to be

smoke ventilation Essay
Smoke Ventilation
Firefighters, lately defined as heroes, have a very exciting job and do some pretty amazing things. My
main interests however, is how firefighters ventilate heat and smoke from a structure fire. What pieces
of equipment do they use? How do they use those pieces of equipment? Why ventilation is so
important and why do they take certain precautions when using their equipment?
Growing up in the woods has made my life a lot more different than an average city slicker. You see, I
have a thing about fire. It is one thing that is very interesting to me. Some things that are interesting
about fire is that it grows very fast and it is very dangerous, but that never ... Show more content on

Ventilation removes heated air, smoke and gasses and replaces those with cooler air to help fight a
fire. In more simple terms it takes out bad air and brings in good air. If a firefighter can do that then
they have the ability to enter the structure to try and fight the fire from the inside rather from the out
side. There is a lot of good things the Smoke Ventilation does which helps firefighters to gain access
into a structure.
Ventilation is one of the first things that a firefighter will do when dealing with a structure fire. It is the
beginning step to try and control a fire. There are four different kinds of ventilation, vertical,
horizontal, natural and forced. Depending on the situation firefighters determine which way they are
going to approach the structure fire. Planning the ventilation process is very important when dealing
with safety, to the best of my knowledge. Something can and may go wrong if ventilation is not
planned and coordinated correctly.
Ventilation plays a big part in strategy and tactics and is something that firefighters always consider
when they have to deal with a structure fire or any type of situation that involves smoke, heat and gas.
When ventilation is done correctly it has many advantages that help firefighters to control the
situation. The

Thomas Paine The Crisis Speech Summary
I embrace this opportunity to inform you of the happenings of today. My troops and I listened to a
speech given by Sir Thomas Paine by the name of The Crisis . Although it filled me with sorrow, it has
given me the purpose to fight again. Sir Paine spoke of the morality of the Tories. He recalled a story
about a Tory who spoke with a horrid expression, Well! give me peace in my day (43), and compared
it to that of a generous parent, who would speak of his children, and not selfishly of himself. If there
must be trouble, let in be in my day, that my children may have peace (45 47). Such a saying shows
how boorish a fellow must be to support the British. To repent the actions of the King, such as the
generous parent, is quite commendable.

Canine Bone Development And Developmental Diseases
Canine bone development and developmental bone diseases are of growing interest to researchers and
consumers. In order to produce healthier canines and to reduce the incidence of diseases commonly
found in canines, it is important to understand what bone development is and how it occurs, factors
that influence bone development, and developmental diseases. Development can be defined as a series
of changes that takes place in an animal beginning in the embryonic state and lasting until maturity.
These changes lead to a more complex organizational state of the body, starting with simple cellular
organization and leading to formation of body systems.
Ossification Mechanisms
Intramembranous ossification and endochondral ossification are the types of bone development that
occur during fetal development. Intramembranous ossification is the formation of flat bones (i.e,
cranial bones). The first stage of this type of ossification is the formation of an ossification center in
the fibrous connective tissue membrane. The ossification center is formed by mesenchymal cells
differentiating into osteoblasts. The osteoblasts then secrete osteoid into the fibrous membrane and is
subsequently mineralized. As the osteoid accumulates, it is laid down between fetal blood vessels,
forming woven bone. The vascularized osteoid then condenses and forms the periosteum. The final
stage of intramembranous ossifcation is the formation of the the bone collar in compact bone and the
formation of red

Nintendo And The Gaming Industry Essay
Nintendo, the once prominent leader of the gaming industry, may be going down a dangerous slope.
Since 1983 when Nintendo introduced the Nintendo Family Computer in Japan, later called the
Nintendo Entertainment System in the United States, Nintendo has relied on its lovable characters,
innovative products and family appeal to win the hearts of gamers alike. However through heavy
competition from various competitors and the increase in mobile gaming popularity, Nintendo may be
finding it harder to keep gamers of all types interested, especially when it s Nintendo who has become
lazy in keeping with the industries trends.
One of the biggest competitive challenges for Nintendo is the growing pressure on emerging gaming
platforms like Apple s iPhone and iPad. Nintendo also faces a competitive challenge from Sony s
Playstation and Microsoft s Xbox. In order to stay relevant, Nintendo must always be actively
competing in the market to remain strong; the President of Nintendo, Tatsumi Kimishima, has said
that the new console will be nothing like any existing system by Nintendo, solidifying this point.
The Wii represents the core product appeal of Nintendo, which is being a family oriented gaming
console. Through competitive pricing well below the competition, Nintendo is positioning themselves
as the affordable console in order to keep Nintendo brand relevant. PlayStation and Xbox releases
their products generally at the same time, which gears them towards competing for the

Corporate Espionage
The growing corporate espionage activities due to intense competition lead to highly controlling
security measures and intensive employee monitoring which bring about distrust in the workplace
Part I .What I already know The reason I chose this topic is due to the fact that a class called human
resources management which by the way is my major, once we discussed the topic of ethics the
professor covered corporate espionage and determined it as a federal crime. Professor Valdivieso felt
very passionately about this topic because his thesis was based on this area. He is a professional who I
admire very much, and I was looking forward to developing a research paper on this topic. Day by day
the news portrays crimes like assault, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She also compares case studies which basically portray the fact that empowering your employees and
having a clear framework of values in the company, makes them feel important and needed and can
contribute as a countermeasure to control corporate espionage.
Some action that can be taken according to the book depends on the threat you re facing and believe it
or not the difference between regular spies and corporate spies is very small so the same so the means
to control it are alike.
There are four countermeasures that are commonly used by industrial spies: technical, operational,
physical and personnel security, these will later on be discussed in depth due to the harm that can be
caused to a company by a lack of security not only financially speaking but also the workplace
environment distrust that can only be corrected by reorganizing employees. This will represent time
and money wasted.
Clearly Dr. Marjorie Chang believe corporate espionage is everywhere today and should be
considered as a potential threat especially in big corporation when the competition rises daily and
technological access is just a click away. The question is how do we draw the line between excessive
monitoring and preventative actions to diminish distrust? In my next source one of my concerns form
part II is met, showing the most vulnerable parts in a company

  • 2. Eli Lilly And The Pharmaceutical Chemist Essay Eli Lilly Company (Lilly) was founding in 1876 by Colonel Eli Lilly in Indianapolis, Indiana. A veteran of the United States Civil War and a pharmaceutical chemist by trade, Lilly set out to start a company with three underlying goals. First manufacture high quality pharmaceutical products, second medications would be dispensed by medical staff rather than through a mobile tradeshows which was popular at the time, and finally, Lilly s medication would be developed using current science data. In 1886, Lilly went on to hire a pharmaceutical chemist which led to Lilly s esteemed research and development history that they are known for to this very day (Lilly, 2015). In fact, some of the greatest advances in medication can be traced back to Lilly. Lilly s research and development for insulin dates back to 1923 and continues to this day (Lilly, 2015). Lilly also had a hand in mass producing Penicillin and the Polio Vaccine. According to the Eli Lilly Company Annual Report (2015), over 50% of the vaccine used to eradicate polio was Eli Lilly labeled. Through research and development, Lilly s storied past continued with the development of some of the most popular drugs to treat depression (Prozac), diabetes (Humulin), oral antibiotic (Ceclor), schizophrenia (Zypexa), postmenopausal osteoporosis (Evista), and male erectile dysfunction (Cialis) just to name a few. According to Wilkins Garside they have difficulty with reading, spelling, understanding language they hear, or expressing themselves clearly in speaking or in writing. There are many strategies teachers can use to assist students with dyslexia and help them become successful in the classroom lessons. One strategy that can be used to help students with dyslexia is allowing students to use graphic organizers while reading or doing an activity. This allows them to organize their thoughts. For students who struggle with remembering details or retelling a story they just read, the use of a flow chart with pictures to help retell stories or put the events ... This often leads to a decrease in the students self esteem. According to Ryan (2000), they may have difficulty reading social cues. If they do have difficulty reading other people, they may not know, for example, how much distance to keep between themselves and others, how to wait their turn, or how to interpret the body language of others. (p.5) This could lead to problems when the students try to interact with their peers at school. There are many strategies teachers can implement to make sure all students feel included in the classroom. The teachers can have those students become teacher helpers to make sure they feel important to the rest of the group. Passing out papers and supplies can be a very important job in the eyes of the students. This leads them to feel more comfortable and needed in the classroom setting. According to Ryan (2000), while they might feel excluded from their peers, they also struggle with finding the right words to say and may pause before answering direct questions (p.5). Adequate verbal communication is a key part of building relationships among their peers. The lack of this puts students at a great disadvantage, as they grow older. • 6. A Look At The Problem A look at the problem On further analysis, the book makes it apparent that there is an inherent tendency towards individual gains over the health of the market. As a result, it is easy for big business to direct their resources towards frustrating the efforts of their smaller compatriots in a bid to secure profits. Moreover, this behavior contrasts with the needs of a stable market whereby individuals can benefit from their ability to identify lucrative offers before the competition. Rather, the current system allows larger trading firms to piggyback on the system and contravene on its demand for equitable access to resources by capitalizing on the lack of legislation and the relative newness of the technologies involved. For instance, the justice system had mixed reactions when dealing with issues such as ownership of coding resources such as in Sergey Aleynikov s case, which necessitates a change in the legal frameworks surrounding the stock trading system. The system is quick to defend the rights of these firms but fails in regulating their competitiveness since they beat the system and create an environment where they profit even if they are not the first to identify stock on which they might make profits. In the course of the book, Lewis introduces the notion of equitable access that renders the HFT systems obsolete since it aggregates purchase requests into a stream that reaches the destination simultaneously. This system, aptly named the Investors Exchange (IEX), ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Rebirth In Hinduism When the charioteer of Prince Arjuna, Krishna (who is an avatar of the god Vishnu), tries to convince the prince to fight against his own relatives, he invokes some of the core concepts of Hinduism, such as karma, dharma, samsara, and brahman. The avatar Krishna brought up Hindu concept of atman saying, the Eternal [atman] in man cannot die . Hindus believe in brahman, the essence of life. The brahman in humans is the soul, or atman. As opposed to the human body, the atman is eternal. The ultimate goal in Hinduism is to achieve moksha, or reunion with brahman. But it takes multiple lifetimes to achieve moksha, so Hindus believe in samsara, or rebirth. After the physical death of the human body, the atman then takes another form and Krishna reminds Arjuna of this by saying, As...our mortal body wanders on in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A person has a higher chance of being united with brahman if they build up good karma throughout their lifetime. In order to build up good karma, one must fulfill his or her dharma. Krishna repeatedly invokes this concept of dharma. Karma is a person s actions which, if used to fulfill their dharma, lead to good karma. Good karma results in the person s atman being reincarnated in a higher being, and so is therefore closer to achieving the ultimate goal of moksha, or reunion with the divine. Since Prince Arjuna is a warrior, his duty is to fight. Krishna invokes this by saying Think thou of thy duty and do not waver. Not fulfilling one s dharma means that person will get bad karma, and therefore be farther away from achieving the Hindu goal of moksha. Since Arjuna s duty is to fight, him not fighting, even if it means killing his own relatives, is him not fulfilling his dharma. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Unit 18 Database Design Oliver Taylor Resubmission Unit 18 Task 1 What are the benefits of a relational database? A benefit of a relational database would be that the data is only stored once. This means you don t have to change multiple records and it doesn t take up much storage space. For the veterinary practise this is ideal for them, as this is the main reason to why they re changing from paper to Microsoft Access. Having everything on Access and not on paper means they can search for information quicker through the search bar and also it can all be stored on a hard drive. This will save money on buying filing cabinets, on storage space, time spent looking for information and on buying materials such as paper and ink. Another benefit would be its more secure. This is because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the field size is 70 , that means the user can input up to 70 letters, numbers or symbols. It s important that you change it field size if it s the automatically the appropriate size. This is because if you have a field size of 70, that ll take up 70 bytes of storage, which by itself isn t a lot, but over a massive database that ll take up a lot of room. So for a First Name for example, instead of leaving it as 70, it should be changed to around 10 15. One to One relationship A one to one relationship in a database is where each row in a database is linked with another database. Only one can be linked with another from another table. For example in Table A and Table B, each row in Table has to be linked with another row in Table B. In each of them, they must have the same number of rows, otherwise it won t work. This does make it sound like you could just merge the two tables into one, which in theory is true. But the advantage of having two separate tables is that if you have columns of data that you don t often use then you can separate them into another table. This will make information in the primary table easier to read as it will only have the relevant information in it. One to many relationships A one to many database relationship is where each row in a table can be related to many other rows in another table. With being able to do this you can use frequently used data from one data and reference it many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One mural in particular depicted the perfect image of distraught, anguish, and the depression Olaudah experienced. The mural is very dark, the artist uses shadow and light to distinguish the intense emotions of one face in three stages of grief. The background is dark, this suggests that the artist is in a state of depression. There is a hand that is larger than the figures in scale, reaching out and grabbing a figure of a man in deep thought. This represents God testing Olaudah s faith with trials and tribulations. It was shown even from the beginning how he could and would be the perfect middle man for the British and the Arab people. In his humble start Lawrence studied history and archeology at Oxford, and participated in an archeological dig in Syria, studying from 1910 1914. While studying in Syria he learned an extensive amount about Middle Eastern culture and learned the Arabic language that would aid him in later years. Showing a man eager to learn and with a deep love of knowledge and curiosity. It is these qualities that allow Lawrence to immerse himself so deeply into the culture when he works with the Arabs. • 15. Maltese Falcon Movie Book Comparison Essay Solon Bowden 2/9/08 Paul K. The Maltese Falcon Comparison Samuel Spade of The Maltese Falcon novel by Dashiell Hammett is quite different from Samuel Spade of The Maltese Falcon motion picture. The book was written a good decade before that version of the movie was produced and in a much more casual time period. The novel focuses on making Sam out to be a more complex character than the movie does. He is not just the good guy as he is portrayed more so in the movie. The time period may have had a lot to do with the differences between the 1941 movie and the book, published in 1929. The first thing to consider is that the late 1920 s were a much more relaxed, party era, while the early 1940 s were an era of strict decorum. While ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another striking difference between the novel and the film is the portrayal of the femme fatale antihero Brigid O Shaughnessy. The book, once again in stride with the time period it was published in, portrays her as a very sexually charged woman, someone who is without a doubt willing to use her sexuality to her advantage in any situation. An example of her comfort with her sexuality is seen when she strips in a bathroom for Spade and In her mien was pride without defiance or embarrassment (196). The movie, however, shows her in a more traditional role of a woman, someone who uses her femininity to her advantage, playing the poor helpless girl more often. Instead of having Brigid strip in the movie, she merely pleads with Sam, begging him to believe that she did not take the money. In its entirety, The Maltese Falcon novel reflects a more evolved character in both Sam Spade and Brigid O Shaughnessy. Each character is real enough to know that right decisions aren t always clear and that sometimes no one can be trusted, as is seen when Spade searches Brigid s room or strip searches her. While the Sam Spade of the movie still reserved his doubts about people he met, he was a much less multi faceted character, one who could still make all the right choices and by the end of the story save the day. At the same time, the novel begs the question by the end of the story did Sam Spade make the right decision? The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first surfers were fisherman who discovered riding waves as an efficient method of getting to shore with their catch. It then transformed from becoming an everyday work method to something to do to pass time. Surfing has come a long way, evolving from its origins into what it is now. Back then in the water, the Ali i claimed the highest reputation. Only a select few could surf with them. If the Ali i wanted the whole beach to himself, then no one would be in the water. However, for the rest of them, it was a chance to show off. The chiefs could demonstrate their skill and comonomers would be given a chance as well. Some became famous or infamous for the way they handled themselves out in the lineup. There were four types of boards, the Olo which started at twelve feet, the Alaia six to eight feet, Kiko o eight to twelve feet, and the Paipo or Kioe which was more of a bodyboard, two to four feet long. Before the mid 1960s, music still mirrored the sound, stylistic traits and views of the prior decade. Many of the popular records were by artists who had found mainstream success in the 1950s, such as Ray Charles, Elvis Presley and Bill Haley his Comets. From the mid 1960s onwards, a number of social influences changed what popular music was and introduced us to the miscellany that even today we experience with music. The assassination of President Kennedy (1963), the intensification of the Vietnam War (1965 1973) and the advancement of the Civil Rights Movement (1963) all had a significant impact on the disposition of American culture and the music began to reflect that. (Holz, 2010) One of the artists that erupted at this pivotal time was James Brown. Rather than the backbeat that characterised African American music, James Brown developed his signature groove that accentuated the downbeat. Heavy emphasis was put on the first beat and in some cases the third beat of every measure to form his characteristic sound. What St. Louis is metaphorically saying that Mary, Our Blessed Mother, is the air that we take in to replenish and refresh our lives. Not only in an internal sense, inhaling and exhaling our lungs to keep our circulatory system continuous, but in the figurative sense that She, Our Lady, is the everlasting breath of Salvation that we partake every moment of our lives. You cannot get to Jesus without Her, (Mr. Berube). To become truly Catholic and to love Jesus tenderly, one must love and accept Mary first. Any Kind Checks and HDC Status Essay Andres Bocanegra MBA 610 Q2285 January 4, 2015 6 3: Short Paper Any Kind Checks and HDC Status Several factors come into play when considering the fairness of the court s ruling in this case. We have to look at whether Any Kind Checks Cashed acted reasonably in accepting a negotiable item from the payee. We also have to consider why the payee used the services of a check cashing establishment in the course of conducting his business. Also, it is important to review the provisions that should be met when an entity tries to assert a protection as a holder in due course. Was Any Kind Checks an HDC in this case? Any Kind Checks did not have prior notice of the check being dishonored by Mr. Talcott when Guarino attempted to cash it. However, because of its value, they show that they had reason to contact the maker for approval. It is also reasonable for Any Kind to take Mr. Guarino s actions as suspect. As is pointed out in the brief, why would a small business owner, particularly one who is a broker of investments, utilize a check cashing business for this transaction rather than a traditional financial institution? This question in and of itself should give cause for concern to Any Kind considering their policy that any check over $2,000 requires approval. A revision to Article 3 of the UCC added a provision for not only honesty in fact, but also for the observance of reasonable commercial standards of fair dealing. Because a reasonable party could reasonably consider Guarino s actions as suspect, and outside of the commercial standards of fair dealing, the burden of proof is significantly higher in showing good faith and fairness toward all parties (including the maker of the instrument). We have another example in this situation to look at when analyzing if Any Kind took such care in this case. When attempting to cash the second check, Any Kind felt it was necessary to speak with the Maker prior to taking action. Any Kind would not cash the check for Guarino without speaking with Mr. Talcott. Once they received approval from Talcott, and were not advised of any action ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In some cases the prejudice against the Irish was fiercer even. The Irish immigrated in great numbers to the US and due to their culture, Catholic faith and the poor conditions in Ireland they were considered to be potentially disloyal and were thus treated very poorly. As a way to battle this they began organizing themselves politically and by the end of the 19th century St. Patrick s Day was a grand holiday for the Irish as well as a day for them to demonstrate their political and social might. • 27. Theories Of Primary Language Acquisition Two theories of primary language acquisition emerged from 1950s psychological research: B.F. Skinner s behaviorist theory and Noam Chomsky s biological theory of language development. Primary language acquisition addresses specifically the way in which an infant s native language is beginning to form, starting at birth. Primary language acquisition continues to develop throughout the rest of childhood within the critical period. Skinner argued that children acquire and develop language based purely on the behaviorist theory, which states behaviors are developed and focused around conditioning. If a certain behavior produces a positive outcome, the individual is more likely to repeat that behavior. However, if a certain behavior produces a negative outcome, the individual is less likely to repeat that specific behavior. Conditioning, whether classical or operant, was the sole basis on which children acquired language. In his Verbal Behavior, Skinner gives the following example: Out! Has the same ultimate effect as turning the knob and pushing against the door. The explanation of both behaviors is the same. (Skinner, 1949, p. 35) In this form of operant conditioning, Each response is acquired and continues to be maintained in strength because it is frequently followed by an appropriate consequence. There is a lot of good things the Smoke Ventilation does which helps firefighters to gain access into a structure. • 30. Canine Bone Development And Developmental Diseases Canine bone development and developmental bone diseases are of growing interest to researchers and consumers. In order to produce healthier canines and to reduce the incidence of diseases commonly found in canines, it is important to understand what bone development is and how it occurs, factors that influence bone development, and developmental diseases. Development can be defined as a series of changes that takes place in an animal beginning in the embryonic state and lasting until maturity. These changes lead to a more complex organizational state of the body, starting with simple cellular organization and leading to formation of body systems. Ossification Mechanisms Intramembranous ossification and endochondral ossification are the types of bone development that occur during fetal development. Intramembranous ossification is the formation of flat bones (i.e, cranial bones). The first stage of this type of ossification is the formation of an ossification center in the fibrous connective tissue membrane. The ossification center is formed by mesenchymal cells differentiating into osteoblasts. The osteoblasts then secrete osteoid into the fibrous membrane and is subsequently mineralized. As the osteoid accumulates, it is laid down between fetal blood vessels, forming woven bone. The vascularized osteoid then condenses and forms the periosteum. The final stage of intramembranous ossifcation is the formation of the the bone collar in compact bone and the formation of red ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
