Diagetic sound-
2. Visible sound source or implied visibility also sound created by what’s going on in the scene
and not put on after. As long as it seems to have originated from the world of the film, its
diagetic.
Non diagetic sound- Sound which has a source that isn’t originating from the film, so music
put on top, a voice over.
Synchronous sound- When a sound effect or musical element if matched or paired timing
wise with an action to reinforce its effect.
Asynchronous sound- When a sound originates from outside of diagetic reality
Contrapuntal sound - a noise or sound effect which doesn’t match the visuals so is used to
juxtapose or create an alternate meaning.
Voiceover- Voice of the character talks over the filmto give more context and informs the
audience but can be lying
Theme music- Music that introduces and develops throughout the film. Used to show
personality and actors like Sherlock can have their own theme tune to indicate their
presence
Musical score- Used to create atmosphere, link shots sequences together, and help create
narrative about the4 characters
Silence- Can be used to create a juxtaposition and is very powerful but used sparingly
