My Passion For A Graduate Degree
I was born in Inglewood, CA, the son of two immigrant parents. Growing up, I always knew the
importance of education; it was ingrained in me by my mother and father. They grew up in Mexico
where they both loved school until their economic hardships forced them to come to the U.S. and
work. I am the first person in my family to go to college and will be the first to pursue a graduate
degree. The passion for education that my parents instilled, as well as my cultural values, drives me
to pursue a graduate degree. Early in my undergraduate education I became interested in research
and statistics, specifically related to education. My passion for quantitative methods came after I
enrolled in my Psychological Methods class. This inspired me to expand my knowledge of statistics
and go outside the department to enroll in other advanced statistics courses. These classroom
experiences along with applied research and evaluation experience culminated with me wanting to
obtain a graduate degree in quantitative methods. I want to be able to give back to my community
and I hope to fulfill this goal by conducting research with underrepresented populations, like the
Latino population and believe the University of Maryland would be a great stepping stone to my
goal.
When I first came to college, I had no idea what the experience would be like, but I was excited for
this new chapter in my life. I enrolled in courses I thought I would easily surpass, but a couple of
weeks into them, I felt

I Clearly Remember My Last Moment As An Undergraduate...
I clearly remember my last moment as an undergraduate student. I had just finished my last exam
for the semester, and as I checked back over my test I reflected on my college experience. In just 7
semesters I had attended 4 different colleges, lived in 4 different cities, had 9 different jobs, took a
semester off for a competitive internship, and still managed to graduate a semester early. But of
course, it's kind of a long story.
Throughout high school my family always supported me and encouraged me to do my best, but
never pushed me to strive for a college education. I knew I wanted to go to college, but I was
uncertain and scared of the process. As a junior I applied to Chicago Scholars whose mission it was
to help minorities and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before the rug had been pulled on my U of I plans, I had applied to the competitive Disney College
Program in Florida. I learned of my acceptance at the perfect time, and committed to spend the next
semester in Florida. This was a great opportunity for me to network with some of the most
ambitious college students from around the world while I learned a lot.
While my internship with Disney provided me with the opportunity to transition to whatever was
next, it unfortunately did nothing to help my financial situation, and I found myself back at home.
Living with my dad in Chicago I worked 60–70 hours a week and completed 22 credit hours at my
local community college. During this time I pushed myself to not let circumstances hold me back
and decided to be relentless in chasing my goals. Despite taking a semester off for Disney, I received
my Associates degree on time. At a college fair, I learned about Loras College and prepared to
continue my BA at Loras in Dubuque, IA.
I started at Loras in Fall of 2014 and eagerly threw myself into the academia and school
involvement that I had been desperate for since U of I. After arriving in Iowa, I became involved
with Dr. Julia Omarzu's research team, worked part–time at a Jimmy Johns and the school Library,
volunteered in Dubuque elementary schools, worked as a math tutor in a high school, did trail
maintenance for a nature preserve, and crocheted and donated baby

When asked about sleeping habits it is brought up that only 6 hours of sleep is needed to function
with a single nap throughout the day. There are no concerns being under or over weight. Patient does
not breast feed or provide formula to infants, due to the fact of having no children. J.P. is able to
move around without any assistive devices and completes 5 hours of physical activity a week.
Emotional status was answered as stable and confesses that some stressors are school, family and
friends. When asked about coping, it is admitted that biting the lip, crying self to sleep, and sleeping
it off were the ideal ways to cope with the stress. Economic status falls in the middle class and has
healthcare under parent's insurance plan. J.P. views herself as a hardworking student, but is
intimidated by the pace and content of nursing school. Despite being intimidated, she is confident to
compete nursing school. Others describe her as being able to socialize easily with other students;
new friends are added her inner circle because of this. Another characteristic noted is that she is loud
and cheerful around friends, turning their bad mood into a positive one. Despite the times where the
confidence disappears, a strong front is shown so others do not see what is going on behind the
scene, patient puts feelings aside to help those who are in need of emotional support.

The University of Chicago, Arts & Sciences Department. The case study focuses on the Academic
Advisors emotional intelligent levels and their interaction with undergraduate students. Students
who go to the University of Chicago has had bad communication with their advisers. The students
come to the Academic Advisor's office to be advised, after the initial visit, they leave disappointed,
confused and upset about their academic status. Mr. Smith the Director of Academic Advising has
received complaints on two of his Academic Advisors Tyrone and Mickey. These complaints have to
be addressed before the next semester start. The complaints lead Mr. Smith to arrange a meeting to
talk with all three Academic Advisor on restructuring their customer service accomplishments to
better serve students in the College of Arts & Sciences.

Teaching And Mentoring Experience For Undergraduate Students
Teaching and Mentoring Experience
Teaching has been a fundamental component of my academic training. I have been actively involved
in teaching, tutoring, and mentoring high school and undergraduate research students throughout my
doctoral and postdoctoral work at the City University of New York (CUNY). I taught General
Chemistry (I & II) laboratory courses and recitation sections at CUNY for four years. I volunteered
as a physical chemistry tutor for undergraduate students from CUNY. At St. John 's College of
Liberal Arts and Sciences, my teaching assignment included a General Chemistry Laboratory course
that also involved a synergistic approach to conducting several laboratory sessions guided
simultaneously by two instructors.
Along with Dr. Ruth Stark and her graduate students at City College, I designed a curriculum for a
biophysics foundation course ("Touring the tomato: A suite of chemistry laboratory experiments")
geared for undergraduate and high school students seeking research experience through CUNY's
College Now program. The eight–module course introduces a panel of analytical techniques for
studying the structural properties of biopolymers obtained from an inexpensive source such as the
tomato fruit at increasingly detailed molecular levels. In its final phase, students design independent
research projects related to structural investigations of various biomaterials obtained from fruits and
vegetables. We tested our new curriculum by giving a summer

Education has Lost Touch with its Origin and its Meaning
"It is only when all these things, names and definitions, visual and other sensations are rubbed
together and subjected to tests in which questions and answers are exchanged in good faith and
without malice that finally, when human capacity is stretched to its limit, a spark of understanding
and intelligence flashes out and illuminates the subject at hand." Plato had this to say about dialogue
and its importance to the process of education. Does this sound like the educational system that is in

The university, or the "school."
Students come each year to campuses such as the University of Arkansas, or the University of Texas
to begin their undergraduate education. These campuses are a group of ever–changing buildings and
monuments that make up what people think of as, "the university." The definition of a school
according to Webman's Unabashed Dictionary, is as follows. "A group of humans moving together
through the mind." This suggests that the university, or any school for that matter, is not bound by
the borders and walls of a particular place.
When asked why they are here, most students say it is because this is what they need to get ahead in
life, whatever that may mean. It usually has much to do with the brass ring, or the house on the top
of the hill with the sports car in the driveway. For these people, the idea of an education appears to
be nothing more than job training. Could this type of training not be given at a technical school in
half the time it would take to get an undergraduate education? Many that have this attitude will
come and go without ever receiving the true benefits of an undergraduate education.
Throughout history the idea of being educated has been one of a total body experience. The notion
of a well–rounded person is one that is still talked about today. The ancient Greeks incorporated
both physical and mental exercises into their educational process. They were

The Importance Of An Undergraduate Business Management...
In the ever–changing business world, a key component to the productivity within the workplace is
communication. As an undergraduate business management student, an important part of
communication is understanding the difference between maintaining the façade of an authoritative
figure or maintaining a friendly relationship with employees and how it would affect the attitudes,
behaviors, productivity and quality of work. In order create a successful workplace environment,
finding and establishing a middle ground between being an authoritative figure and having a

Communication can be classified as formal or informal, internal or external as well. Informal and
formal communication are very common forms of communication within the business workplace
and can also play a role in the daily lives of people. Informal communication is generally used in
daily life because it can be defined as a less serious way of communicating such as texting,
socializing with peers, or a simple verbal conversation. On the other hand, formal communication is
more common in a workplace environment than informal communication would be. Formal
communication is more common because communication between colleagues and managers is
meant to be held on a certain level of respect and formality and be focused on the task at hand.
Verbal and nonverbal are also forms of communications that exist within the workplace as well.
Nonverbal is a form of communication that can be translated and observed based on body language.
This can be a difficult thing to manage and control in the workplace because anything like a
handshake that is not firm and eye contact that is not direct when you are having a conversation with
someone can be interpreted in many ways and some have the possibility as being seen as offensive.
For example, Nonverbal communication can be anything that ranges from facial

Why Student Involvement Is Essential For Undergraduate...
Alexander Astin, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Higher Education and Organizational Change,
at the University of California, Los Angeles, spent much of his career trying to understand which
variables are most likely to predict student success in Higher Education. Through the course of his
research, Astin became convinced that what he called "student involvement" was essential to
undergraduate student success. In a now world–leading paper, first published in 1984, Astin defined
involvement as "the amount of physical and psychological energy that the student devotes to the
academic experience," and contended that the amount of learning and personal development that
students experience in an academic setting is directly connected to the ... Show more content on

Given that all three courses operate within this online space, a physical space (and offline
manifestation of 'Random Twist') would represent the logical conclusion to their online discussions,
providing a shared real–world space for students to realise collaborative projects. Within the School,
we see collaboration as dividing the task and multiplying the success of everything that we do
(every course operates shared modules, staff, resources, etc.).
We see the 'Random Twist Hub' as a creative, interactive, informal and social learning space which
would encourage student collaboration beyond their own courses and traditional subject boundaries.
The creative opportunities are extensive, and embedding the critical importance of collaboration
through creative media–rich projects is everything we hope for within the School. In an ever–
changing global landscape, we recognise that hubs are important spaces where students can design,
test, scale and launch enterprising new ideas. Within this innovative new space, the students are
expected to engage in creative collaboration through the completion of dramatic pieces, live
streaming, podcasting, web–based events and student–led web series.

Why Self-Directed Learning Is Important For Undergraduate...
Using evidence from the literature; critically discuss why self–directed learning is important for
undergraduate students Self–directed learning (SDL) is defined as any form of studying whereby
individuals take the primary responsibility and initiative to plan, implement and evaluate their own
work. However, SDL does not necessarily mean that all learning takes place in isolation from others;
it can consist of participation in study groups, internships, and self–guided reading. This essay will
give an overview of why self–directed learning is important, in particular for the success of
undergraduate students by helping them become more independent learners. SDL has existed from
classical antiquity (400 BC) and has therefore been an important aspect of the lives of Greek
philosophers such as Socrates, Plato and Aristotle. However, it was not until around 150 years ago
that scholarly efforts took place in order to understand SDL. One of the first documented efforts
concerning SDL was by Craik (1840) who celebrated self–education efforts of several people. In
addition, the book Self–Help was published by Smiles (1859) applauding the value of personal
development. Nevertheless, it did not become a major research area until the last three decades.
Observations by Houle (1961) (University of Chicago, Illinois) introduced the concept of SDL;
whereby he interviewed 22 adult learners and categorised them into three groups based upon the
reasoning for participation in learning

Women 's Leadership Position As An Undergraduate Student...
Background: Women in leadership provided a variety of different insights about being a woman in
leadership positions both in the business world and outside of it. One constant theme throughout the
class was how women have to constantly prove our competence more than men. Women are less
likely to have an executive position in a company, which means that when women are hired for
these positions, they have to prove themselves. As a woman, this is something I have not faced in
my current position as an undergraduate student, but as I move forward in my career, I know it is a
challenge I will face. One statistic that was mentioned during lecture really stuck out in my mind.
Women apply for jobs when they feel they meet 100% of the criteria, whereas men apply for jobs
when they feel they meet 60% of the qualifications. Like was previously stated, women feel the
need to constantly prove themselves, which is why they only apply for jobs they can 100% succeed
in versus men have confidence in themselves even if they are sure if they meet all the job
qualifications. Bottom line based on the success of many of the speakers from Women in
Leadership, if you are confident in yourself, you can complete a task and complete it well.
It is clear having confidence when apply to jobs, and in general is an extremely important skill to
have. While there are many different strategies in the working world for women to succeed, it is
important to work hard and be confident to get the job done. As

College Pressures By William Zinsser
Students Facing Obstacle During College Life
During the college life students have to deal with different types of obstacles. In the article, "College
Pressures" William Zinsser focuses on the pressure faced by the college students. He talks about
how the students are dealing with economic pressure, parental pressure, peer pressure, and self–
induced pressure. College students are worried about getting high paid jobs and being rich instead of
relaxing and enjoying now. Zinsser claims that students are worried about their future by using
pathos.
According to Zinsser, one of the pressure students has to face in the college is economical. Pathos
have been used by the author to make the reader feel that how students are dealing with economic
problems. Student with scholarship are very safe and doesn't have to worry about an economic
problem. Zinsser states "I tell them to relax. They can't." Zinsser is trying to convince students not
take the pressure, but he/she won't be able to relax because college demands too much of money.
Just to pay for the college, students have to work during the weekends or whenever there is a free
time. Zinsser supports his stamen by proclaiming "Tuition, room, and board at most private colleges
now comes to at least $7,000, not counting books and fees. This might seem to suggest that the
colleges are getting rich. But they are equally battered by inflation. Tuition covers only 60% of what
it costs to educate a student, and ordinarily the remainder

What Is The Increased Diversification Of The Undergraduate...
The increased diversification of the undergraduate student population in the United States' higher
education system has been well–documented (Barefoot, 2002; Hutchinson, 2010; Pascarella &
Terenzini, 1998), and has resulted in greater access for marginalized populations (Kuh, 2008).
Specifically, the number of undergraduate student parents has risen from around 3.2 million in 1995,
to 4.8 million in 2012 – amounting to 26% of the total college population (Institute for Women's
Policy Research, 2016). Despite this burgeoning group, student parent success as measured by
retention rates are alarmingly low; only one–third attain a degree or certificate within six years of

One could infer a culture that is both steeped in tradition and history as well as a community that
fosters advancement and growth. As such, one of the key tenants of UMTC's mission is to provide
access to resources to help "individuals and organizations respond to their changing environments"
(UMN, 2008). Applied in a student parent context, one can distinguish this mission through the
Student Parent Help Center (SPHC) and the resources it provides undergraduates with children.
Established in 1967 as an academic support program for low–income students, HELP (Higher
Education for Low–Income People) was initially charged with providing services for traditionally
underserved populations (UMN, n.d.). However, with various programs forming across the
university in the late 1980's to address underrepresented students (TRIO, among others), HELP
began to focus exclusively on the specific needs of student parents. Today, the Student Parent HELP
Center (now within the greater Office of Student Affairs) works to eliminate the challenges student
parents face while completing their first Bachelor's degrees. A secondary mission is to encourage
participation in higher education among teen parents in the greater metro area (UMN, n.d.).
Accordingly, this mission could not be more relevant: from 2004–2012, the student parent
population increased by 61% in the plains region of the United States (where UMTC

Measuring Academic Procrastination in Australian...
Procrastination is an important individual difference construct that affects many areas of life, from
health care (delaying important medical visits or exercise) to finance (dealing with financial troubles
like credit card debt), to academic arenas. Procrastination, has been defined as "the act of needlessly
delaying tasks to the point of experiencing subjective discomfort or putting off that which is
necessary to reach some goal" (Lay, 1986, p474). Procrastination has been associated with
maladaptive behaviours and outcomes including anxiety, depression, stress, illness and low self–
efficacy (Schouwenburg, 1995; Klassen, 2008). Academic procrastination, a unique form of
procrastination, has had minimal research compared to other psychological constructs. And as far as
the author is aware there has been no research on academic procrastination in the Australian
University context. A reliable scale measuring academic procrastination in Australian undergraduate
students is needed for the purpose of research in to theoretical foundations of academic
procrastination, who procrastinates, the reasons why, the implications, and so as to advance
understanding of this construct. In a meta–analytic and theoretical review of procrastination, it was
estimated that between 80–95% of undergraduates experience problematic academic procrastination,
with up to 30% experiencing severe procrastination (Steel, 2007). Considering the effect of
procrastination on the general, work and academic

Teachers review the IEP with the student 's parents, school administrators, and the student 's general
education teachers. Teachers work closely with parents to inform them of their children 's progress
and suggest techniques to promote learning outside of school. Special education teachers design and
teach appropriate curricula, assign work geared toward each student 's needs and abilities, and grade
papers and homework assignments. They are involved in the student's behavioral, social, and
academic development, helping them develop emotionally and interact effectively in social
situations. Preparing special education students for daily life after graduation also is an important
aspect of the job. Teachers provide students with career counseling or help them learn life skills,
such as balancing a checkbook. As schools become more inclusive, special education teachers and

Exploring How Undergraduate Physiotherapy Students...
Methodology
This section identifies and justifies the methods that were used to explore how undergraduate
physiotherapy students perceive the CE as a role model. The selection process, data collection,
actions taken to avoid bias and ethical considerations will be explained and consequently increasing
the transferability and dependability of the study (Cho and Trent, 2014).
Research Design
The exploratory nature of the research question requires a phenomenological qualitative approach
for data collection and analysis to acquire a rich understanding of the participant's experiences
whilst ensuring a strong focus is made towards the research question. Phenomenology is the study of
subjective experiences, in which the experience is made sense of and knowledge is gained about a
person's views instead of trying to explain them making sense of the experience (Smith, 2004).
A focus group or interviews could have been used to approach the research question, both
endeavouring to understand themes of the participant's perspectives of the CE and interpreting the
meaning of the phenomena (Brinkmann and Kvale, 2015). To reach data saturation of the study six
or more interviews would be needed. To triangulate the data both interviews and focus groups would
be used, however the time restraints of the study do not allow this. Participants can find it
intimidating to be interviewed one on one, affecting their responses and therefore the validity and
reliability of the study (Golafshani,

undergraduate Christian students from the introduction to psychology at major mid–atlantic
universities. Two, a group of undergraduate Christian students who are enrolled in 5 general study
classes at a, mid–Atlantic, creedal–based Christian college, and are required to attend chapel
services once a week. Third and last group are from four Washington, D.C., churches (from both
traditional and charismatic Christian faiths)(Fretz and Keating, 1990). All together the total
participant count was 301. To better understand these 301 participants I will highlight some of the
other characteristics of each of the three groups. The first group count for 124 of the 301 people

Research Rationale: The Influence of Weblog on the...
Discussion
The rationale behind the present study was an investigation of the influence of weblog on the
reading motivation of undergraduate students. Based on the empirical data, it could be inferred that
there was an increase in students' reading motivation. As indicated earlier, this can only be attributed
to the use of blog. On the other hand, we found little or no change in motivation within the control
group. This situation can best be interpreted when it is understood the implementation of the blog
took place within the experimental class only. In terms of overall reading motivation, results suggest
a significant influence on the intention of intent to using blog as a useful tool. It was clear the
blogging experiment was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This difference can be accounted for by the fact that blogging activities provide various facilities
that promote literacy practice. Furthermore, the findings seem to confirm that both face–to–face
methods and blogging activities enhance students' reading to some extent. Students in both groups
were more motivated at the end of the experiment. We can safely conclude that CALL activities
greatly assist traditional methods of teaching particularly in the second language learning context.
Reader self–concept has also been a major focus of this research. Previous studies already
mentioned above have shown that student's reading competence influences the reader's self–concept
in that highly competent reader are more likely to evidence a positive self–concept. The present
findings showed that students who defined themselves as good readers were significantly more
likely to rate themselves as proficient readers than students who seemed to accept that they were
non–readers. Despite minimal change in the results, students who participated in the blog
experiment scored increasingly higher for motivation as opposed to students who did not. Moreover,
it can also be assumed that learning aids may bring tangible improvements to learners. By way of
illustration, 75% of group A students reported that they had tried to express what they had read in
their own words, and 38% of them claimed they would not

General Guidelines For Help Undergraduate Students Write...
These are general guidelines to help undergraduate students write better essays. *Note that every
assignment is different. You should take the time to closely read the instructions and meet with your
Professor if necessary.
BEFORE YOU START
Make sure that you have closely read the instructions as presented by your Professor. As stated
before, there are many different types of historical essays (argumentative essays, historiographical
reviews and so on). It is imperative that your style is adapted to the type of essay you are required to
write.
Gather all your information. Some Professors want students to write essays using only class
material, others expect them to do more research. If the latter, make sure to gather all (most) of your
information beforehand. If you are a university student, you normally have access to a library and
many academic journals. Use this access and make sure to ask librarians for help when needed.
Take careful notes as you are reading in preparation for your essay. If your Professor provided a
specific question, make sure to read critically for information that is susceptible to help you answer
this question. If your Professor has not assigned a specific question, you should still read carefully
and try to find the different ways in which historians address certain issues.
Some students prefer not to plan others do. I suggest planning as it may be the best way to map out
your ideas and begin forming an argument. It is impossible to cover all

The Use of Alcohol Should be Banned for all State University Undergraduate Students
"According to the Core Institute, an organization that surveys college drinking practices, 300,000 of
today's college students will eventually die of alcohol–related causes such as drunk driving
accidents, cirrhosis of the liver, various cancers and heart disease" (Phoenix House). All around the
State campus, at frat parties, in black–light–lit dorm rooms, and even at casual social gatherings,
alcohol can be found in abundance. Despite the many downsides to alcohol use, college students as
a whole maintain a very casual attitude toward drinking. I believe that drinking causes many more
problems than it is worth to anyone, which is why I propose that ... Show more content on

People who are normally shy tend to "come out of their shells" after a couple drinks. To many
people, being under the influence of alcohol is an important part of being social. In order to gain a
clear understanding of why the average college student drinks, I asked ten drinkers in my house
what their main reasons for drinking are. The most prevalent reasons given for drinking were that
drinking heightens their feelings of pleasure, allows them to be more social and have more fun, and
frees their mind, taking them away from their problems. A few said that they simply enjoy drinking
because they like the taste. Considering alcohol's ability – as a mind–altering substance – to relax
people and make them feel good, it really is not surprising that many college students drink.
However, what also must be considered are the alternatives to drinking. A variety of relaxation
techniques exist to help people reduce stress and clear their minds. Among other activities, yoga,
massages, and enjoyable hobbies have been shown to reduce anxiety in people. Also, people can
receive psychotherapy or take medication to help deal with shyness (Shyness Clinic). There are over
500 organizations here at Iowa State, making it easy for almost anyone to get involved and have fun
without resorting to alcohol. For those who drink alcohol for the taste, surely they can find non–
alcoholic drinks that they enjoy drinking in place of alcohol.

Essay on Education Beyond Undergraduate
Education Beyond Undergraduate
Graduate or professional education is an often–debated topic for a large number of University
seniors. Regardless of the undergraduate degree many students must decide whether to enter the job
market or go to school for another couple of years. When these students are faced with this decision
it is important to look at what they consider. Is it job satisfaction, future pay, or the mere fact that
they want to spend a few more years in college? These issues are all very important to students in
very different manners. An important reason students consider continuing their education beyond
their undergraduate degree is job satisfaction. Through my marketing classes, I have learned that my

There are a number of exceptions. The students who make excellent grades are often offered
scholarships in graduate school. But, most of these students did not have to pay for their
undergraduate education for the same reason they will not have to pay for their graduate education.
There are those students who pay their way through college making average grades and decide that
they want to attend graduate school. They apply for scholarships, but usually do not receive them.
Then they are forced to work their way through graduate school and pay the government back when
they begin their profession. Maybe the government should make an exception or discount for
students who start and finish a graduate education. As a student who has been free from working
through college thanks to the generosity of my parents, I feel that graduate school is the place for
me. For the first time, I will have to work to pay for school and therefore, I feel that I will appreciate
it more. The third thing that I believe all college students consider when trying to decide whether to
pursue an education beyond their undergraduate degree is whether or not they are ready to leave
college. If a student has had an enjoyable college experience and made a lot of friends, I don' t think
they would be interested in entering the work force if they have the opportunity to remain in college
for a couple more years. Granted, the graduate education is harder, but they still get to

Evaluating An Internet Based Stress Management...
Evaluating an Internet–based stress management intervention for undergraduate university students
INTRODUCTION A recent survey by the National Union of Students indicates that an 80% of
Higher Education students report stress as the most often experienced feeling of mental distress,
with only 36% of distressed students reaching out for help (NUS, 2013). Another survey which took
place in a UK university suggests that all three years of an undergraduate's time in a university is a
period of heightened psychological distress, and even if fluctuations in levels of stress are present it
never reaches pre–admission levels (Bewick et al, 2010). Frequent stress responses have shown to
weaken the immune system, act as a risk factor toward developing depression, coronary heart
disease, diabetes, obesity, even oxidative stress which damages DNA and sets the ground for
inflammatory diseases (Djuric et al, 2008). Therefore it is not an issue which should be overlooked
as it may appear not that threatening in the short term. This study aims to evaluate an Internet–based
stress management intervention for university students of both sexes experiencing stress during their
time of studies. Through a systematic review and meta–analysis, computer–based interventions have
been shown to be effective in reducing the rates of stress and depression amongst students (Davies
et al, 2012). Furthermore, they overcome barriers which might prevent students from seeking
professional help, such as the

The focus of this article was a study of over 1600 college students that participated in an online
survey to gain an understanding of attitudes concerning rape. The hypothesis uncovered maintained
that some, particularly men that have a conventional view of rape and appeared more accepting of
rape crimes. While those, both male and female who have a more post modern view of gender roles,
tend to be less tolerant of rape. Recognition of the role of a sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE)
as a much needed resource to educate the college community is introduced. Their job is to inform
students of the problems with rape myths and to direct those populations at risk to learn more about
how to protect themselves. The efforts of SANE is also to inform as many as possible of the dangers
of rape to the health of the community.
In addition SANE will be able to form relationships with crime prevention, law enforcement, and
intervention related services. SANE is involved in supporting those sexual victimized and providing
connections with healthcare organizations and college campuses (.
Research was focused on understanding the views of students toward what is termed the rape myth
meaning a female assaulted by a male stranger with a weapon while traveling alone.

I Am An Undergraduate College Student
When I was an undergraduate college student, studying required much more effort. Despite a strong
desire to learn, and a passion for biology, my educational experiences was not ideal.
During my sophomore year in college I started teaching my peers to test myself if I knew core
concepts. This is where I developed a love for anatomy and physiology as well as a desire to teach. I
chose to further this love through the Anatomy Program through Wright State
University. Progressing through graduate school allowed me to define learning as a personal process
of growth. Being able to ask questions and actually attempt to answer those questions was extremely
motivating. Through my experiences, I have focused on two primary philosophies as a teacher: to
get students to think about science as a process, and to individualize their learning experiences, the
former of which I learned as a student myself, and the latter of which became evident as an effective
teaching strategy through my growth in graduate school.
Through my initial failures as an undergraduate student, I realized the interactive classroom
environment was lacking in most of the courses. I learned about my own potential through graduate
school. Because of this, I have made an effort to be a mentor as well as a teacher by providing my
students with opportunities to learn in ways they would find to be most beneficial. As a graduate
teaching assistant, I appreciated how precious the time was with my students, and how I wanted to

Procedure
Following the distribution of flyers in their psychology classes, students will be participating in the
study during class time. They will be given a brief presentation on the purpose of the study along
with some knowledge about the subject of the study. They will be told that it is anonymous and that
they have the options to withdraw or not participate. They will then be given a hard copy of the
scale, read the instructions, and look at the numerical scale first to see which options they have for
ratings. Once the instructions are given, the researchers will ask the participants if they understand
the instructions. Once it is indicated that all participants understand the study and the purpose of the
study, the participants will be able to begin. The scale has 12 questions in which participants will
have to choose on a 7 rate scale, ranging from strongly disagree to strongly agree. Some of the
questions are stated as "It helps to turn to my romantic pattern in times of need", "I turn to my
partner for many things, including comfort and reassurance", "I do not often worry about being

the next chapter of life. They are: find happiness, the pothole theory of life, and be nice. In his first
piece of advice, he mentioned about finding a job that you really love. The pothole theory of life
talks about the coming problems in the road of life and how you could look at them so that you don't
waste the days granted. The last piece of advice presents the one prominent feature of a personality.
He emphasizes on niceness that you interact with each person and kindness causes you to feel ...

"The liberal arts today have fallen in prestige. In the early decades of the 20th century, about 70% of

reducing due to the scrimmage of economical issues. Students are more likely to make academic
decisions that favor fields perceived to be paths to jobs, and jobs that pay well. This desirable way
supports brutal economy. As William Zinsser says in "College Pressures" all the costs are high, from
heating oil, insurance, postage to health insurance. Despite plenty of evidences that liberal arts
graduates also have successful careers, undergraduates prefer other fields that seem to promise
employment. Students flee their first steps in to the real world, which is an opportunity to reflect on
higher education. Lack of guarantee to secure jobs in the future tends to push students toward
vocational arts instead of liberal arts. Moreover, paying too much money is not desired today; in
contrast focusing directly on the workplace is the

To date there is a significant lack of research regarding the opinions of Undergraduate Music
Therapy students concerning the requirements of a Master's Degree for entry–level positions. When
the Certification Board for Music Therapist (CBMT) was established in the 1980's, this provided
employers with assurance that we are qualified professionals. Every profession arrives at a crossroad
in a certain point of its development (AMTA, 2011a). The crossroad that undergraduate music

Controversy about entry–level qualifications continues to create concern over whether music
therapists are adequately prepared to enter into professional work upon completion of approved
university programs and internships. In addressing the identity issues of the music therapist, there is
an ongoing controversy over whether the education of the music therapist at the undergraduate level
should serve to prepare a musician who uses therapy, or a therapist who uses music (Bruscia, 1987).
In order to remedy deficits in undergraduate training, some music therapists chose to explore
graduate programs (Bruscia, 1989). Bruscia (1987) proposed that the bachelor's degree in music
therapy should function as preparation for the master's degree, and thus provide a broad–based
education for the development of musical and therapeutic skills. Justification for entry level at the
master's degree level also suggests the possibility of state licensure, which would allow the music
therapist to practice independently and open new opportunities for reimbursement.
The problem over entry–level competencies has been debated since its onset in 1950 when E.
Thayer Gaston sought out to set up a Music Therapy program modeled after music education
(2011a). Given this information, a survey is to be compiled to gather the opinions of undergraduate

Educators need to be certain to understand that each student will be different and therefore, will
often require a different approach in how they learn. If a student is struggling in some way, the
responsibility lies upon the educator to ascertain what is preventing the student from retaining
relevant material [information]. Erikson relied heavily upon encouragement and support as he
illustrated his model of development. If a student presents a question or concern, the educator must
take it seriously. The aforementioned will lead to the student developing a sense of trust with the
educator, which is critical to successful learning experience.

that will affect their ability to retain and recall information.

A Research On An Undergraduate Psychology Student
In the scientific world most arguments are supported by data. In regards to personality, at first
glance, it may seem impossible to collect quantitative data. However, as the text book points there
are "LOTS" of ways to collect personality data. "LOTS" is an acronym for L–data, life record data,
O–data, observer data, T–data, test data, and S–data, self–report data (Cervone & Pervin, 2013). So
in fact there are scientific ways to collect data on personality. As an undergraduate psychology
student pursuing a degree in psychology, it is important for me to not only understand the different
methods when doing research in the field of psychology, as well as recognizing which method
works best for the research being conducted. Being able to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The major problem with observational data is collecting data without the individual or individuals of
interest noticing the observer. If spotted, the individuals of interest may behave differently than in a
true naturalistic setting. T–data relies on experiments to collect data. The advantage of using this
method of data collection is that the experimenters have control over the variables being measured,
they can chose which expressed personality characteristics they want to measure and select the
participants they want. Another advantage of using T–data is that unlike correlational data, T–data
can support causality between two or more variables. While experimental data may be the most
supportive, it is also more challenging to conduct. Experiments require more resources such as
money and personnel, which can limit smaller institutions and psychologists with limited resources
from using T–data. In addition to the cost and personnel to run the experiment, it also takes more
time to conduct because the researchers must find enough participants to make the sample size
relevant enough to generalize the results back to the population.
S–data is one of the more popular methods for collecting data because of its convenience and cost.
The cost of producing and administering self–report material is significantly less than T–data for
instance. Additionally, it is more convenient to administer due to the ease of being able to

My Passion For A Graduate Degree

  • 1. My Passion For A Graduate Degree I was born in Inglewood, CA, the son of two immigrant parents. Growing up, I always knew the importance of education; it was ingrained in me by my mother and father. They grew up in Mexico where they both loved school until their economic hardships forced them to come to the U.S. and work. I am the first person in my family to go to college and will be the first to pursue a graduate degree. The passion for education that my parents instilled, as well as my cultural values, drives me to pursue a graduate degree. Early in my undergraduate education I became interested in research and statistics, specifically related to education. My passion for quantitative methods came after I enrolled in my Psychological Methods class. This inspired me to expand my knowledge of statistics and go outside the department to enroll in other advanced statistics courses. These classroom experiences along with applied research and evaluation experience culminated with me wanting to obtain a graduate degree in quantitative methods. I want to be able to give back to my community and I hope to fulfill this goal by conducting research with underrepresented populations, like the Latino population and believe the University of Maryland would be a great stepping stone to my goal. When I first came to college, I had no idea what the experience would be like, but I was excited for this new chapter in my life. I enrolled in courses I thought I would easily surpass, but a couple of weeks into them, I felt ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. I Clearly Remember My Last Moment As An Undergraduate... I clearly remember my last moment as an undergraduate student. I had just finished my last exam for the semester, and as I checked back over my test I reflected on my college experience. In just 7 semesters I had attended 4 different colleges, lived in 4 different cities, had 9 different jobs, took a semester off for a competitive internship, and still managed to graduate a semester early. But of course, it's kind of a long story. Throughout high school my family always supported me and encouraged me to do my best, but never pushed me to strive for a college education. I knew I wanted to go to college, but I was uncertain and scared of the process. As a junior I applied to Chicago Scholars whose mission it was to help minorities and ... I learned of my acceptance at the perfect time, and committed to spend the next semester in Florida. This was a great opportunity for me to network with some of the most ambitious college students from around the world while I learned a lot. While my internship with Disney provided me with the opportunity to transition to whatever was next, it unfortunately did nothing to help my financial situation, and I found myself back at home. Living with my dad in Chicago I worked 60–70 hours a week and completed 22 credit hours at my local community college. During this time I pushed myself to not let circumstances hold me back and decided to be relentless in chasing my goals. Despite taking a semester off for Disney, I received my Associates degree on time. At a college fair, I learned about Loras College and prepared to continue my BA at Loras in Dubuque, IA. I started at Loras in Fall of 2014 and eagerly threw myself into the academia and school involvement that I had been desperate for since U of I. After arriving in Iowa, I became involved with Dr. Julia Omarzu's research team, worked part–time at a Jimmy Johns and the school Library, volunteered in Dubuque elementary schools, worked as a math tutor in a high school, did trail maintenance for a nature preserve, and crocheted and donated baby ... • 8. Teaching And Mentoring Experience For Undergraduate Students Teaching and Mentoring Experience Teaching has been a fundamental component of my academic training. I have been actively involved in teaching, tutoring, and mentoring high school and undergraduate research students throughout my doctoral and postdoctoral work at the City University of New York (CUNY). I taught General Chemistry (I & II) laboratory courses and recitation sections at CUNY for four years. I volunteered as a physical chemistry tutor for undergraduate students from CUNY. At St. John 's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, my teaching assignment included a General Chemistry Laboratory course that also involved a synergistic approach to conducting several laboratory sessions guided simultaneously by two instructors. Along with Dr. Ruth Stark and her graduate students at City College, I designed a curriculum for a biophysics foundation course ("Touring the tomato: A suite of chemistry laboratory experiments") geared for undergraduate and high school students seeking research experience through CUNY's College Now program. The eight–module course introduces a panel of analytical techniques for studying the structural properties of biopolymers obtained from an inexpensive source such as the tomato fruit at increasingly detailed molecular levels. Education has Lost Touch with its Origin and its Meaning "It is only when all these things, names and definitions, visual and other sensations are rubbed together and subjected to tests in which questions and answers are exchanged in good faith and without malice that finally, when human capacity is stretched to its limit, a spark of understanding and intelligence flashes out and illuminates the subject at hand." The university, or the "school." Students come each year to campuses such as the University of Arkansas, or the University of Texas to begin their undergraduate education. These campuses are a group of ever–changing buildings and monuments that make up what people think of as, "the university." The definition of a school according to Webman's Unabashed Dictionary, is as follows. "A group of humans moving together through the mind." This suggests that the university, or any school for that matter, is not bound by the borders and walls of a particular place. When asked why they are here, most students say it is because this is what they need to get ahead in life, whatever that may mean. It usually has much to do with the brass ring, or the house on the top of the hill with the sports car in the driveway. For these people, the idea of an education appears to be nothing more than job training. Could this type of training not be given at a technical school in half the time it would take to get an undergraduate education? Many that have this attitude will come and go without ever receiving the true benefits of an undergraduate education. Throughout history the idea of being educated has been one of a total body experience. The notion of a well–rounded person is one that is still talked about today. Communication can be classified as formal or informal, internal or external as well. Informal and formal communication are very common forms of communication within the business workplace and can also play a role in the daily lives of people. Informal communication is generally used in daily life because it can be defined as a less serious way of communicating such as texting, socializing with peers, or a simple verbal conversation. On the other hand, formal communication is more common in a workplace environment than informal communication would be. Formal communication is more common because communication between colleagues and managers is meant to be held on a certain level of respect and formality and be focused on the task at hand. Verbal and nonverbal are also forms of communications that exist within the workplace as well. Nonverbal is a form of communication that can be translated and observed based on body language. This can be a difficult thing to manage and control in the workplace because anything like a handshake that is not firm and eye contact that is not direct when you are having a conversation with someone can be interpreted in many ways and some have the possibility as being seen as offensive. • 12. Why Student Involvement Is Essential For Undergraduate... Alexander Astin, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Higher Education and Organizational Change, at the University of California, Los Angeles, spent much of his career trying to understand which variables are most likely to predict student success in Higher Education. Through the course of his research, Astin became convinced that what he called "student involvement" was essential to undergraduate student success. In a now world–leading paper, first published in 1984, Astin defined involvement as "the amount of physical and psychological energy that the student devotes to the academic experience," and contended that the amount of learning and personal development that students experience in an academic setting is directly connected to the ... Given that all three courses operate within this online space, a physical space (and offline manifestation of 'Random Twist') would represent the logical conclusion to their online discussions, providing a shared real–world space for students to realise collaborative projects. We see the 'Random Twist Hub' as a creative, interactive, informal and social learning space which would encourage student collaboration beyond their own courses and traditional subject boundaries. The creative opportunities are extensive, and embedding the critical importance of collaboration through creative media–rich projects is everything we hope for within the School. In an ever– changing global landscape, we recognise that hubs are important spaces where students can design, test, scale and launch enterprising new ideas. Within this innovative new space, the students are expected to engage in creative collaboration through the completion of dramatic pieces, live streaming, podcasting, web–based events and student–led web series. • 13. Why Self-Directed Learning Is Important For Undergraduate... Using evidence from the literature; critically discuss why self–directed learning is important for undergraduate students Self–directed learning (SDL) is defined as any form of studying whereby individuals take the primary responsibility and initiative to plan, implement and evaluate their own work. However, SDL does not necessarily mean that all learning takes place in isolation from others; it can consist of participation in study groups, internships, and self–guided reading. This essay will give an overview of why self–directed learning is important, in particular for the success of undergraduate students by helping them become more independent learners. SDL has existed from classical antiquity (400 BC) and has therefore been an important aspect of the lives of Greek philosophers such as Socrates, Plato and Aristotle. However, it was not until around 150 years ago that scholarly efforts took place in order to understand SDL. One of the first documented efforts concerning SDL was by Craik (1840) who celebrated self–education efforts of several people. In addition, the book Self–Help was published by Smiles (1859) applauding the value of personal development. Nevertheless, it did not become a major research area until the last three decades. Observations by Houle (1961) (University of Chicago, Illinois) introduced the concept of SDL; whereby he interviewed 22 adult learners and categorised them into three groups based upon the reasoning for participation in learning ... • 14. Women 's Leadership Position As An Undergraduate Student... Background: Women in leadership provided a variety of different insights about being a woman in leadership positions both in the business world and outside of it. One constant theme throughout the class was how women have to constantly prove our competence more than men. Women are less likely to have an executive position in a company, which means that when women are hired for these positions, they have to prove themselves. As a woman, this is something I have not faced in my current position as an undergraduate student, but as I move forward in my career, I know it is a challenge I will face. One statistic that was mentioned during lecture really stuck out in my mind. Women apply for jobs when they feel they meet 100% of the criteria, whereas men apply for jobs when they feel they meet 60% of the qualifications. Like was previously stated, women feel the need to constantly prove themselves, which is why they only apply for jobs they can 100% succeed in versus men have confidence in themselves even if they are sure if they meet all the job qualifications. Bottom line based on the success of many of the speakers from Women in Leadership, if you are confident in yourself, you can complete a task and complete it well. It is clear having confidence when apply to jobs, and in general is an extremely important skill to have. While there are many different strategies in the working world for women to succeed, it is important to work hard and be confident to get the job done. As ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Student with scholarship are very safe and doesn't have to worry about an economic problem. Zinsser states "I tell them to relax. They can't." Zinsser is trying to convince students not take the pressure, but he/she won't be able to relax because college demands too much of money. Just to pay for the college, students have to work during the weekends or whenever there is a free time. Zinsser supports his stamen by proclaiming "Tuition, room, and board at most private colleges now comes to at least $7,000, not counting books and fees. This might seem to suggest that the colleges are getting rich. But they are equally battered by inflation. The increased diversification of the undergraduate student population in the United States' higher education system has been well–documented (Barefoot, 2002; Hutchinson, 2010; Pascarella & Terenzini, 1998), and has resulted in greater access for marginalized populations (Kuh, 2008). Specifically, the number of undergraduate student parents has risen from around 3.2 million in 1995, to 4.8 million in 2012 – amounting to 26% of the total college population (Institute for Women's Policy Research, 2016). Despite this burgeoning group, student parent success as measured by retention rates are alarmingly low; only one–third attain a degree or certificate within six years of enrollment (Gault, Reichlin, Reynolds, & Froehner, 2014; Miller, Gault, ... As such, one of the key tenants of UMTC's mission is to provide access to resources to help "individuals and organizations respond to their changing environments" (UMN, 2008). Applied in a student parent context, one can distinguish this mission through the Student Parent Help Center (SPHC) and the resources it provides undergraduates with children. Established in 1967 as an academic support program for low–income students, HELP (Higher Education for Low–Income People) was initially charged with providing services for traditionally underserved populations (UMN, n.d.). However, with various programs forming across the university in the late 1980's to address underrepresented students (TRIO, among others), HELP began to focus exclusively on the specific needs of student parents. Today, the Student Parent HELP Center (now within the greater Office of Student Affairs) works to eliminate the challenges student parents face while completing their first Bachelor's degrees. A secondary mission is to encourage participation in higher education among teen parents in the greater metro area (UMN, n.d.). Accordingly, this mission could not be more relevant: from 2004–2012, the student parent population increased by 61% in the plains region of the United States (where UMTC ... • 19. Measuring Academic Procrastination in Australian... Procrastination is an important individual difference construct that affects many areas of life, from health care (delaying important medical visits or exercise) to finance (dealing with financial troubles like credit card debt), to academic arenas. Procrastination, has been defined as "the act of needlessly delaying tasks to the point of experiencing subjective discomfort or putting off that which is necessary to reach some goal" (Lay, 1986, p474). Procrastination has been associated with maladaptive behaviours and outcomes including anxiety, depression, stress, illness and low self– efficacy (Schouwenburg, 1995; Klassen, 2008). Academic procrastination, a unique form of procrastination, has had minimal research compared to other psychological constructs. And as far as the author is aware there has been no research on academic procrastination in the Australian University context. A reliable scale measuring academic procrastination in Australian undergraduate students is needed for the purpose of research in to theoretical foundations of academic procrastination, who procrastinates, the reasons why, the implications, and so as to advance understanding of this construct. In a meta–analytic and theoretical review of procrastination, it was estimated that between 80–95% of undergraduates experience problematic academic procrastination, with up to 30% experiencing severe procrastination (Steel, 2007). The selection process, data collection, actions taken to avoid bias and ethical considerations will be explained and consequently increasing the transferability and dependability of the study (Cho and Trent, 2014). Research Design The exploratory nature of the research question requires a phenomenological qualitative approach for data collection and analysis to acquire a rich understanding of the participant's experiences whilst ensuring a strong focus is made towards the research question. Phenomenology is the study of subjective experiences, in which the experience is made sense of and knowledge is gained about a person's views instead of trying to explain them making sense of the experience (Smith, 2004). A focus group or interviews could have been used to approach the research question, both endeavouring to understand themes of the participant's perspectives of the CE and interpreting the meaning of the phenomena (Brinkmann and Kvale, 2015). To reach data saturation of the study six or more interviews would be needed. To triangulate the data both interviews and focus groups would be used, however the time restraints of the study do not allow this. Discussion The rationale behind the present study was an investigation of the influence of weblog on the reading motivation of undergraduate students. Based on the empirical data, it could be inferred that there was an increase in students' reading motivation. As indicated earlier, this can only be attributed to the use of blog. On the other hand, we found little or no change in motivation within the control group. This situation can best be interpreted when it is understood the implementation of the blog took place within the experimental class only. In terms of overall reading motivation, results suggest a significant influence on the intention of intent to using blog as a useful tool. It was clear the blogging experiment was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This difference can be accounted for by the fact that blogging activities provide various facilities that promote literacy practice. Furthermore, the findings seem to confirm that both face–to–face methods and blogging activities enhance students' reading to some extent. Students in both groups were more motivated at the end of the experiment. We can safely conclude that CALL activities greatly assist traditional methods of teaching particularly in the second language learning context. Reader self–concept has also been a major focus of this research. Previous studies already mentioned above have shown that student's reading competence influences the reader's self–concept in that highly competent reader are more likely to evidence a positive self–concept. The present findings showed that students who defined themselves as good readers were significantly more likely to rate themselves as proficient readers than students who seemed to accept that they were non–readers. Despite minimal change in the results, students who participated in the blog experiment scored increasingly higher for motivation as opposed to students who did not. • 25. General Guidelines For Help Undergraduate Students Write... These are general guidelines to help undergraduate students write better essays. *Note that every assignment is different. You should take the time to closely read the instructions and meet with your Professor if necessary. BEFORE YOU START Make sure that you have closely read the instructions as presented by your Professor. As stated before, there are many different types of historical essays (argumentative essays, historiographical reviews and so on). It is imperative that your style is adapted to the type of essay you are required to write. Gather all your information. Some Professors want students to write essays using only class material, others expect them to do more research. If the latter, make sure to gather all (most) of your information beforehand. If you are a university student, you normally have access to a library and many academic journals. Use this access and make sure to ask librarians for help when needed. Take careful notes as you are reading in preparation for your essay. If your Professor provided a specific question, make sure to read critically for information that is susceptible to help you answer this question. If your Professor has not assigned a specific question, you should still read carefully and try to find the different ways in which historians address certain issues. Some students prefer not to plan others do. I suggest planning as it may be the best way to map out your ideas and begin forming an argument. It is impossible to cover all ... People who are normally shy tend to "come out of their shells" after a couple drinks. To many people, being under the influence of alcohol is an important part of being social. In order to gain a clear understanding of why the average college student drinks, I asked ten drinkers in my house what their main reasons for drinking are. The most prevalent reasons given for drinking were that drinking heightens their feelings of pleasure, allows them to be more social and have more fun, and frees their mind, taking them away from their problems. A few said that they simply enjoy drinking because they like the taste. Considering alcohol's ability – as a mind–altering substance – to relax people and make them feel good, it really is not surprising that many college students drink. However, what also must be considered are the alternatives to drinking. A variety of relaxation techniques exist to help people reduce stress and clear their minds. Among other activities, yoga, massages, and enjoyable hobbies have been shown to reduce anxiety in people. Also, people can receive psychotherapy or take medication to help deal with shyness (Shyness Clinic). Evaluating an Internet–based stress management intervention for undergraduate university students INTRODUCTION A recent survey by the National Union of Students indicates that an 80% of Higher Education students report stress as the most often experienced feeling of mental distress, with only 36% of distressed students reaching out for help (NUS, 2013). Another survey which took place in a UK university suggests that all three years of an undergraduate's time in a university is a period of heightened psychological distress, and even if fluctuations in levels of stress are present it never reaches pre–admission levels (Bewick et al, 2010). Frequent stress responses have shown to weaken the immune system, act as a risk factor toward developing depression, coronary heart disease, diabetes, obesity, even oxidative stress which damages DNA and sets the ground for inflammatory diseases (Djuric et al, 2008). Therefore it is not an issue which should be overlooked as it may appear not that threatening in the short term. This study aims to evaluate an Internet–based stress management intervention for university students of both sexes experiencing stress during their time of studies. In addressing the identity issues of the music therapist, there is an ongoing controversy over whether the education of the music therapist at the undergraduate level should serve to prepare a musician who uses therapy, or a therapist who uses music (Bruscia, 1987). In order to remedy deficits in undergraduate training, some music therapists chose to explore graduate programs (Bruscia, 1989). Bruscia (1987) proposed that the bachelor's degree in music therapy should function as preparation for the master's degree, and thus provide a broad–based education for the development of musical and therapeutic skills. Justification for entry level at the master's degree level also suggests the possibility of state licensure, which would allow the music therapist to practice independently and open new opportunities for reimbursement. The diversity with which a typical college classroom can consist of will likely make the learning process more complex for the instructor and therefore, an additional purpose of this discussion will be to explain how the learning process should occur at this level of study, to include how the instructor can choose the best practice(s) that will best meet the individual needs of the students. Erik Erikson focused on how one's personality develops over the span of their life, from childhood through adulthood. He focused on a "lifespan model of development" (McLeod, 2013, para. 5) that he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Erikson did not necessarily fail to address potential issues but rather, he focused on the positives and how to develop and strengthen them. Educators need to be certain to understand that each student will be different and therefore, will often require a different approach in how they learn. If a student is struggling in some way, the responsibility lies upon the educator to ascertain what is preventing the student from retaining relevant material [information]. Erikson relied heavily upon encouragement and support as he illustrated his model of development. If a student presents a question or concern, the educator must take it seriously. The aforementioned will lead to the student developing a sense of trust with the educator, which is critical to successful learning experience. "The brain interprets scenes in the instants after they happen, inserting judgments, meaning, and context on the fly" (Carey, 2014, p. 5). Depending on the type of learner the student is, coupled with the environment [classroom] that they are in, each student will learn, or not, the same material differently. Each student has a different ability to recall information [or facts] at varying levels and also, under a variety of circumstances. Often, it is the distractions that the students are exposed to, that will affect their ability to retain and recall information. "No complex memory comes back exactly the same way twice" (Carey, ... • 38. A Research On An Undergraduate Psychology Student In the scientific world most arguments are supported by data. In regards to personality, at first glance, it may seem impossible to collect quantitative data. However, as the text book points there are "LOTS" of ways to collect personality data. "LOTS" is an acronym for L–data, life record data, O–data, observer data, T–data, test data, and S–data, self–report data (Cervone & Pervin, 2013). So in fact there are scientific ways to collect data on personality. As an undergraduate psychology student pursuing a degree in psychology, it is important for me to not only understand the different methods when doing research in the field of psychology, as well as recognizing which method works best for the research being conducted. Being able to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The major problem with observational data is collecting data without the individual or individuals of interest noticing the observer. If spotted, the individuals of interest may behave differently than in a true naturalistic setting. T–data relies on experiments to collect data. The advantage of using this method of data collection is that the experimenters have control over the variables being measured, they can chose which expressed personality characteristics they want to measure and select the participants they want. Another advantage of using T–data is that unlike correlational data, T–data can support causality between two or more variables. While experimental data may be the most supportive, it is also more challenging to conduct. Experiments require more resources such as money and personnel, which can limit smaller institutions and psychologists with limited resources from using T–data. In addition to the cost and personnel to run the experiment, it also takes more time to conduct because the researchers must find enough participants to make the sample size relevant enough to generalize the results back to the population. S–data is one of the more popular methods for collecting data because of its convenience and cost. The cost of producing and administering self–report material is significantly less than T–data for instance. Additionally, it is more convenient to administer due to the ease of being able to ...
