Objectives of the Meeting:
Share results from informal data gathering on what three changes are
needed to create the best student outcomes
Discuss perceived issues in autonomy as theyapply to curriculum and
instruction
Continue to build relationships amongall members and further
understand their perspectives on autonomy

Examining Autonomy As it Applies to Curriculum and Instruction
The current expectation for districts, schools, classroom on curriculum
and instruction
Given the expectation, what are the perceived barriers and where are
the potential strategies to overcome the barriers?
Small group activity instructions

5:00 –5:50 Curriculum and Instruction: Barriers and Solutions
(Small-group discussions)
Using a graphic organizer, members will discuss the perceived barriers to
autonomy in curriculum and instruction and develop a set of possible
strategies to overcome the identified barriers. The group will prepare both
an oral and visual report out to the large group.
5:50 – 6:20Sharing Barriers & Ideas for Curriculum and Instruction
What big themes emerged? What possible solutions emerged? Where is
the greatest leverage for action?
6:20 – 6:30Reflections, Take-aways, and Feedback

Educator Autonomy Working Group January Meeting Agenda Monday, January 6, 2013 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. Rhode Island Department of Education 80 Washington Street/255 Westminster Street, Providence Room 501 Objectives of the Meeting: Share results from informal data gathering on what three changes are needed to create the best student outcomes Discuss perceived issues in autonomy as theyapply to curriculum and instruction Continue to build relationships amongall members and further understand their perspectives on autonomy 4:30 – 4:50 Welcome andReflections Yanaiza Gallant and Pat Page – Co-chairs of the Educator Autonomy Working Group Reflections from our last meeting – all members What did you learn from your “informal survey”? What themes emerged? 4:50– 5:00 Examining Autonomy As it Applies to Curriculum and Instruction The current expectation for districts, schools, classroom on curriculum and instruction Given the expectation, what are the perceived barriers and where are the potential strategies to overcome the barriers? Small group activity instructions 5:00 –5:50 Curriculum and Instruction: Barriers and Solutions (Small-group discussions) Using a graphic organizer, members will discuss the perceived barriers to autonomy in curriculum and instruction and develop a set of possible strategies to overcome the identified barriers. The group will prepare both an oral and visual report out to the large group. 5:50 – 6:20Sharing Barriers & Ideas for Curriculum and Instruction What big themes emerged? What possible solutions emerged? Where is the greatest leverage for action? 6:20 – 6:30Reflections, Take-aways, and Feedback
