Guiding Principles for Our Work:
Student learning and success is paramount.
Educators (teachers, school and district administrators) want what is
best for students.
Decisions should be made as close to the student as is practical and
effective.
Objectives for this Meeting:
Examine three different operational models of autonomy being used in
states/districts and identify what aspects of the autonomy may be
applicable to Rhode Island
Continue to build relationships among all members and increase
understanding on autonomy

Examining Three Approaches to Increasing Autonomy
Overview of Approaches to Increasing Autonomy in 3 states/districts
and factors to examine in each approach (10 minutes)
Break into 3 groups and analyze each approach on what conditions
and components of implementing autonomy hold potential for making
recommendations for Rhode Island; note additional
questions/concerns; prepare for large group sharing (45 minutes)
Share results in the large group on what aspects of the approach hold
promise and what concerns/questions need to be explored (35
minutes)
Identify any potential areas that lead to recommendations (15 minutes)
6:15 – 6:30 Reflections and Feedback – Complete an Exit Ticket
