2. The Principles of this Approach
Logical consequence, is the ways in which adults
structure learning opportunities for children when
consequences are too much harm for them. The
goal is to help children recover their self-controls
and, with guidance, make better choices that
help maintain the honesty of the children.
3. Examples how this approach is used
in practice:
The logical consequence model has the 3 R’s:
Respectful- is used through talking nicely towards the children, and not raising
your voice
Relevant- the consequence needs to be relevant to the action
Realistic- A consequence should be something the practitioner and child can follow
through.
This approach is used in current practice, as practitioners are encouraged to not
raise their voices at the children when they are misbehaving. In my current
setting, I have seen practitioners go down to the child’s level when explaining to
them about their behaviour.
4. Benefits of using the model:
The consequences are directly related to a behaviour
and they make sense.
The child understands completely the reason for the
consequences and will know how to avoid the
consequences for the future.
The child is learning about responsibility and will make
good future choices based on this knowledge.
