The Political Philosophy Of Colorado
Political Philosophy
Politics are very influential in the shaping legislation that has an effect on healthcare policy. The
politics of Colorado are considered to be moderate because the state's electoral votes have varied
between Democratic and Republican presidential nominees in the past. For example, Bill Clinton,
George W. Bush, and Barack Obama won the states electoral votes in the recent past. On the other
hand, the state has seen a greater number of Democratic governors than Republican ones. Currently,
the state's legislature is a combination of Democratic and Republican legislators, which will
definitely have an effect on current and future healthcare reform attempts.
The political philosophy of the state can be seen on the healthcare policy decisions. Some decisions,
such as the expansion of Medicaid, reflect the liberal leanings of the legislators. While other
decisions, such as enacting the Federal Breast and Cervical Cancer Prevention and Treatment Act of
2000, illustrated the conservative views of the policymakers who fought against the legislation
(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2015). Recently, Colorado is one of the many states
that are challenging the individual mandate in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act
(PPACA). Like other states, the healthcare system is dependent on the political philosophy of the
current legislature. Surprisingly, the Republican and Democratic parties of the state collaborated
together to create the state's

Interference With Agriculture In The United States And Idaho
Zach Putzier

6 September 2015
Interference with Agricultural Production Agriculture in the United States and Idaho has been
around since man was able to farm the land on which they lived. This country was built on hard
work and determination which is what agriculture stands for. The population of the United States all
have a background in agriculture through family roots whether we know it or not. With the rich
history that agriculture has, things haven't changed too much, granted the world has come a long
way from horses pulling plows, and gathering crops by hand. From the farmer's point of view to
coalition groups we will discover more about what this bill is, what it does, and the views each side
has on this topic.
The Interference with Agricultural Production law states that, it is illegal to obtain employment in an
agricultural facility by force, threats, etc. Agricultural facilities are classified as dairies, slaughter
houses, and livestock or agricultural operations. It is also illegal to apply for employment or enter a
facility with the intention to cause harm to the facility, livestock, crops, etc. "Agricultural
Production" facilities means activities associated with production of agricultural products, food,
fiber, fuel, etc. Any person that is convicted or found guilty or pleads guilty is to make restitution to
the victim. The punishment for this crime if found guilty is a misdemeanor and imprisonment for no
more than one year or the perpetrator has

History Of Career And Technical Education
Career and Technical Education has played a large role throughout the history of the United States
and Ohio specifically. The legal history of Career and Technical Education in the United States and
the state of Ohio has a long history dating back to the 1800s. Career and Technical Education is also
at the forefront in current legal news: a bill sitting in committee and a push for more Americans to
study in Career and Technical Education–related fields. With Americans realizing that not everyone
can or wants to attend college or university, Career and Technical Education is relevant and so is its
long history in the United States and, more specifically, Ohio. Before 1862, there was really no legal
history for Career and Technical Education. However, Congressman Justin S. Morrill of Vermont
proposed a bill in 1857 to have federal support in agricultural and industrial education. President
Buchanan did not support the legislation, so there was no action on the bill. In 1861 however,
Morrill reintroduced his bill to the House of Representatives. President Lincoln later signed it in
summer of 1862. This act gave public lands to build colleges for agriculture and mechanical arts in
each state. Each state, within five years, had to provide a college or the state would be revoked of
the grant. This set the stage clearly for the rest of the legislation in what is now known as Career and
Technical Education ("Independent Action" 38). The first major legislation in Ohio for Career

Background Of Organic Agriculture
Organic agriculture
Background of organic agriculture
Organic agriculture started in the early twentieth century, mainly in Europe, but also in the United
States. The term organic farming came from the term humus farming which emerged from soil
management. The term "organic" was first used by Northbourne (1940). Northbourne used the term
to characterize farms using humus farming methods because he believed that the system imitates the
flows of nutrients and energy in biological organisms.
Organic agriculture became visible on a wider scale in the 1960s, when farmers and consumers
became concerned that the number of chemicals used in crop and animal production could have
negative consequences for human health and the environment. Therefore, the word "organic" was
intended and used to describe a process and method that is considered as environment friendly
because of the sustainable fundamental principles such as: the lack of chemical use, the desire to
reverse erosion, soil depletion, decline of crops varieties, low quality food and livestock feed, and
rural poverty (Kuepper 2010).
What is the meaning of "USDA Certified Organic"
The fact that organic produce may not be distinguished from conventional products at a glance; a set
of standards such as a third–party certification is needed. Organic produce certification is the
process according to which public or private certification bodies provide assurance that organic
products have been produced and handled according to

The Effects Of Terrorism
The events of September 11, 2001, spurred feelings of anger, fear, patriotism, and nationalism across
the United States. The events of that day are as monumental in United States history as the
assassination of J. F. Kennedy. The effects of the 9/11 terrorist acts on the political consciousness of
the general public are comparable to those of the Vietnam War. However, the effects of the terrorism
in 2001 on subsequent U.S policy making, especially foreign policy, was unlike anything in the
history of the United States. The terrorism prompted a reorganization of the federal government that
has been described as the most extensive and complicated since the 1940s (Kettl, 2013, pp. 63–64).
Although the United States had experienced terrorism in several forms before the attacks of
September 2001, they had never been as spectacular and devastating as the September 11 attacks.
Prior to the attacks, support for counterterrorism programs and legislation was weak. After the
attacks, counterterrorism programs and legislation became a primary agenda. Nine days after the
terrorist attacks, President George W. Bush established an "Office of Homeland Security" within the
White House by executive order. The executive order also created a council charged with the
development and implementation of a comprehensive strategy to protect the U.S from further
terrorist attacks. Homeland Security was envisioned primarily as a counter–terrorism measure, but it
was, in fact, an effort to establish

Chinese American Contributions
Chinese–Americans have been an important part of our American society since they emigrated from
their homeland of China. They are the largest group of Chinese people outside of China and they
make up 25.9% of our Asian immigrants and 1.2% of our American population as of 2010. The
cities with the highest percentage of ethnic Chinese in the U.S. are San Francisco (21.4%), Honolulu
(10.2%), and Oakland (8.7%). They are one of the top earning groups in America and have higher
average scores on tests like the SAT and ACT than the average American. They have made
important contributions such as building the western portion of the Transcontinental Railroad and
sharing agricultural expertise in California.

The Exclusion Act put restrictions on free immigration for 10 years. The Chinese had to receive a
certificate to enter the United States. To get the certificate, you had to be "competent" to enter and
that was hard to prove. If they broke this requirement, the Chinese were imprisoned and then
deported. Even the California Governor saw this was wrong and stated, "the most valuable
immigrants, barred from the United States." But he didn't do anything to oppose the bill, in fact no
one did. The Chinese couldn't oppose the bill because they weren't citizens, which in turn meant
they couldn't vote and had no power to influence decisions. They also had no friends in Congress.
The only people allowed to enter were teachers, students, merchants, and

Diana Martinez And The American Dream
When she was just five years old, Diana Martinez came to the United States with her parents on
hopes of living the "American Dream."
Some might say she is achieving the American Dream. She is currently attending Texas A&M
University with aspirations of becoming a Spanish teacher. But she's not just looking for a better life
for herself, she's also hoping to create a better life for the rest of her family.
"I am the only person in my family that has received DACA. I feel like my entire family is
depending on me to better our futures," Martinez says, "I know it isn't right, but I need to do this for
my family. And I can't do that if Congress decides to end DACA."
She is just one of 124,300 DACA recipients in the state of Texas and of the 800,000 recipients
across the nation that will be affected if DACA is discontinued.
Another big worry for Martinez is that her parents are not United States citizens.
"The application for DACA asks to include the address where my parents live. They know where to
find my parents. I feel like we have been betrayed. Like they will go into my parents' home in the
middle of the night and deport them."
On September 5th, President Donald Trump announced that Congress had until March of 2018 to
decide if the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA) should be legalized or if it
should be terminated.
If so, the lives of 800,000 recipients could be changed.

Beach V. Ocwen
HISTORY The Truth in Lending Act (hereafter "TILA") has engendered many conflicting opinions
regarding two distinct issues: first, what actions constitute the act of rescission under 15 U.S.C. §
1635 (hereafter § 1635); and second, how courts should apply the Act's statute of limitations under §
1635(f) to acts of rescission under § 1635(a). The issue of a mortgagor's act of rescission has been
widely debated since the Consumer Leasing Act of 1976 amended TILA to include the provisions at
issue, and the courts cannot agree on what is actually required to effect a rescission, while the
Supreme Court has definitively resolved the issue of temporality when a mortgagor attempts to

The Segregation Of The United States
Throughout history, many laws have been created to keep America as white as possible. Many white
people, such as Tim and Mary Anne Walsh, Marianne Bardolino, and Beverly Sowell, believe that
America has been taken over by non–white immigrants; and as a result, makes them wonder if this
really is a "white country." Many generations of Americans have been perceived as immigrants, but
overcame racism, and are now recognized as "white," but the new non–white immigrants are treated
with the same disdain and disrespect that their fellow white immigrants received throughout history.
Webster's Dictionary defines race as, "any one of the groups that human beings can be divided into
based on shared distinctive physical traits." (Mirriam–Webster) However, ideas about race have
been altered over time. There have been many laws passed that limit the number of immigrants
allowed in the United States. For example, the Johnson–Reed Immigration Act of 1924 limited the
number of immigrants allowed in the U.S. based on a racial census and completely excluded Asian
immigrants. Only 2% of the total number of people of each nationality as of the 1890 national
census received visas. This led to a divide within immigration because some races were more
abundant than others, and as a result, a new racial map was formed. The Chinese Exclusion Act
(1882) banned Chinese immigrants from entering the United States. This act also led to a divide
within immigration because there were less Chinese

I Am A Senior Accountant Working For Cape Tisbe International
I am a senior accountant working for Cape Tisbe International (CTI) and am writing this business
report concerning the issue of a great amount of money ($4 million) that has been paid to a PNG
government minister as "Consulting Fees" recently. In this report, I would like to identify the fact ,
the issues needed to be tackled regarding this payment, and then discuss the possible consequences
derived from these "Consulting Fees", subsequently I will offer some plausible solutions in coping
with this issue in a long–run global development.
Facts
A year ago, CTI signed a contract for farm machinery, worth $25 million, with Papua New
Guinea(PNG). Recently, however, when I was conducting the annual internal audit, I have
discovered some issues associated with this signed contract. As soon as I found something wrong
with the contract's accounting records I communicated with George but his answer has not
addressed my confusion and concerns. Soon after that I had a chat with my boss Gareth, but I failed
to gain a satisfied answer again. After the conversation with both of them, thus, I decided to dig it a
bit further. Now I discover that the actual sales revenue of the contract was $21 million due to
around $4 million that has been paid to a PNG government minister as "Consulting Fees".

Federal Budgetary Function, And The Oversight Function Essay
The 3 most significant powers of Congress are The Budgetary Function, The Law Making Function,
and The Oversight Function. 1. The Budgetary Function – Congress solidified their role in the
budgetary process by passing the Congressional Budget Act of 1974. The Act modified the role of
Congress in the federal budgetary process. It created standing budget committees in both the House
and the Senate, established the Congressional Budget Office, and moved the beginning of the fiscal
year from July 1 to October 1. The Act had two main goals: (1) strengthen and centralize Congress '
budget authority; (2) reduce the President 's impoundment authority. The latter was done by drafting
detailed guidelines restricting how the President can impound funds already appropriated by
Congress. 2. The Law Making Function – is a form of the state activity intended on the creation (or
revision) of the legal norms. Bills are introduced by a variety of methods. After introduction, bills
are sent to designated committees which, in most cases, schedule a series of public hearings to
permit presentation of views by persons who support or oppose the legislation. The hearing process,
which can last several weeks or months, opens the legislative process to public participation. When
a committee has acted favorably on a bill, the proposed legislation is then sent to the floor for open
debate. In the Senate, the rules permit virtually unlimited debate. A bill passed by one house is sent
to the other for

The Importance Of Immigration In America
America was built by people who came here to find justice and to find freedom. History means quite
a lot to the people of America and also very much affects how the United States government works
today. The history principle is one of the five principles of politics. How America started matters.
What was done in the past that is being done now? What has changed? Every conflict that the
government comes across has a history. For every topic, however, history will not always prevail
and repeat. However, without history, government will not know why events happen. History has
proven to be a factor in many subjects but one very important and highly touched upon subject is the
subject of immigration.
Immigration, a topic that is constantly being talked about in American media and government today,
took root way back when. When the US Constitution went into effect, Congress was given full
control over immigration laws and regulations. Everything was fine in the 1700s and the early 1800s
where the Americans promoted free and open immigration. The immigration policy was not
questioned until the late 1800s. After the civil war, many states passed laws regarding immigration.
After these laws were passed, the federal government declared that it was their responsibility to take
control over immigration. As time progressed in the 1880s, more and more immigrants were coming
to America in pursuit of freedom and therefore taking many American jobs. The federal government
decided something

branch being able to change the acts of the other branches, this is only if a president vetoes a law
that Congress has passed or if the Justice of Supreme Courts overturns an unconstitutional law and if
Congress accepts (USA.gov). Even though the connection among Congress and the President of the

reason the presidency assumed more power than the legislative branch over time.
The Constitution in all its glory holds, "as the supreme law of the land", in that it controls the limits

Analysis Of The Omnivore 's Dilemma, By Michael Pollan
The United States of America is the world's largest corn overproducer. With such heavy focus on
corn, I would like to draw attention to a measure taken by the United States government, the Federal
Agriculture Improvement and Reform Act of 1996. This act increased the amount of farm land that
is meant to be used in the States for growing corn from 60 million acres to a whopping 90 million
acres. Such a significant increase cannot go without some kind of effect. Writer, Michael Pollan, in
his book "The Omnivore's Dilemma", discusses the instability of the US farming industry as well as
the negative environmental implications corn has on us. This instability and environmental impact
has given rise to movements promoting a return to more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although a 2002 agriculture law superseded many parts of FAIRA, acreage was still increased
because of the growing demand for corn in animal feed, the need for corn in ethanol manufacturing,
and the increased possibility to make food with corn byproducts. These seem to be good and fair
reasons to focus our efforts on increasing output, however, the same issue arises: the more corn that
is made, the less stable a livelihood farming becomes, regardless of the subsidies that the federal
government provides. The increase in corn production and acreage that comes from FAIRA is yet
another slap in the face to the American farmer. By allowing for increased corn production on top of
the already surplus of corn that domestic farms already produce, the government is actively
lowering the price of corn on the market, making it less profitable for farms to grow and forcing a
lot of farms to close down. In the Great Depression era, the United States government under
President Roosevelt took to subsidizing and buying up excess stores of corn to maintain crop prices
and prevent the collapse of the farming industry in the United States (Pollan 49). This protects
farmers and allows them to make a living while also providing reasonably priced crops to feed the
country with. The Nixon administration began the trend of deregulation in the 1970s, preferring a

Animal Cruelty: The Role Of Factory Farming In Australia
Each year in Australia, over half a billion animals are raised, chemically modified and slaughtered
for food and food production, simply for human benefit (Commonwealth of Australia Department of

Equality Network's statistic of fifty–six billion animals slaughtered each year globally, which
include for the purposes of human consumption, entertainment, religious traditions and scientific
research (Animal Equality Network, 2015). The chief supply of animal products for human use
originates from the high yield method of factory farming. Factory farming is defined as a system of
rearing livestock using highly intensive methods, in which poultry, pigs, or cattle are confined
indoors under strictly controlled ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The legislative framework, which encompasses factory farming, is lacking when it comes to
production livestock (legally known as 'stock animals'), as the legislation fails to provide any
meaningful protection of these creatures. The treatment of farmed animals is exempted from the
overarching cruelty and duty of care standards included in animal welfare legislation. Simply put,
what is considered cruel in a domestic animal situation is not deemed cruel to stock animals. To

Analysis of Roger Daniels Argument on the 1965 Immigration...
In 1965, the 89th Congress got rid of the quota system on immigration (only a certain amount of
immigrants can come in from specific countries) and replaced it with a system that was more
equitable. According to Roger Daniels, Congress successfully replaced the former quota system
because it was seen as very discriminatory toward Asians and Eastern Europeans especially. The
Immigration Law was not intended to have major consequences, according to Daniels, but it ended
up causing a high influx of South American and Asian immigration over the following decades.
Although Daniels presents a good argument and is correct in that Congress succeeded in their initial
plans, he does not give many specific reason, and he argues that the consequences of the bill were
not foreseen, which is incorrect; many people did see and were afraid of the consequences the bill
might bring. In addition, the primary sources' argument provides for scenarios that Daniels did not
account for having to do with the underlying intent of the bill; like that it could have been spurred
by diplomatic relations and war.
According to Daniels, the 1965 law was enacted to end the 1921 and 1924 laws that started the
quota system because the quota system was seen as discriminatory toward people of Asian descent,
specifically: "American law had [previously]...permitted only 'white persons' and those of 'African
descent' to become naturalized. The purpose of this specific clause was to keep out Japanese, as
other Asian

School Lunch And Breakfast Programs Essay
Thomas Edison, a world–renowned inventor, once said: "The doctor of the future will no longer
treat the human frame with drugs, but rather will cure and prevent disease with nutrition" (Norton).
While medicines and antibiotics can be very useful in certain situations, nutrition is key in
maintaining a healthy lifestyle. However, many students cannot maintain a healthy lifestyle due to a
lack of nutrition in school foods. In order to solve this problem, stricter standards must be
implemented into school lunch and breakfast programs. To effectively improve the nutritional value
of foods offered by both primary and secondary schools, stricter legislation must be enforced by the
United States Government. While it may seem that nutritional problems are only affecting schools in
the United States, many other nations are experiencing similar problems. For example, many
schools in Wales do not provide healthy, nutritious choices for their students. According to the
National Foundation for Educational Research, 17/26 secondary schools in Wales offer chips on a
daily basis and 22/26 secondary schools in Wales offer cakes on a daily basis" (Nicholas, et al. 38).
Offering these unhealthy choices to students will oftentimes mislead them into picking those choices
over healthier options. This statistic helps show the enormity of the nutritional problem with foods
in schools. Not only does this problem affect students in America, but it also affects students in other
countries, such as

People V Hall Analysis
SOCIAL DISCRIMINATION/EXCLUSION ACTS:
People v. Hall (1854), was a notable case that went down in history because it made discriminating
against the Chinese seem perfectly reasonable and ethical. The jury tried to charge George Hall for
the murder of a Chinese man Ling Sing. There were three Chinese witnesses, who claimed Hall was
guilty, but the California Supreme court, notably Chief Justice Murray established that "no black,
mixed race or Chinese could testify against a white man." Hall was effectively freed, and the ruling
made it okay to discriminate against the Chinese. This was followed up by the Statues of
California/Chapter 13 (1858) and the Page Act of 1875, which were one of the first restraining
federal migration rules that banned the entry of specific migrants considered "unwanted." The
statues specifically prohibited Chinese and Mongolians from entering the state except when driven
ashore by weather or unavoidable accident. Furthermore, the 1880 Naturalization Law generated a
system of a check for nationalization and fines for deceitful practices. It notably extended the
naturalization process to people of African descent but refrained from extending it to people of
Asian descent due to anti–Chinese sentiment in the western states.
Additionally, a distinctive aspect that sets the Chinese apart from all the other AAPI groups was the
fact that they were the first Asian–American group to be exposed to exclusionary acts such as the
Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882. The Act efficiently halted Chinese immigration and prohibited
Chinese from becoming naturalized citizens. It was ordained in reaction to widespread economic
concerns and fear about maintaining white purity. The U.S. government did not stop; they
successively issued more discriminatory acts into the law. One such proposal was the Scott Act of
1888, which banned Chinese workers abroad or who intended future travels from returning to
America. The act expanded on the Chinese Exclusion Act and stranded thousands of Chinese outside
the United States. Furthermore, the Chinese Exclusion Act was renewed for another decade by the
Geary Act (1892). Geary Act by itself established a central system for all Chinese inhabitants in
America. It became

Impact Of Immigration On The United States
America has always been a country of immigrants. During the 1891 to 1924, over twenty million
immigrants came to the U.S. (Daniels, 1997, p. viii). Several pieces of key legislation were also
passed during that time that affected immigrants. America's view at this time reflected that of strong
Nativism. Several anti–immigration groups had their fair share of influence in political affairs that
had a negative affect on certain groups. This paper will outline the events that led to three pieces of
legislation. This paper will also highlight the impact on immigration and how the chosen pieces of
legislation contributed to future legislation (if at all).
The first piece of legislation highlighted in this essay is the Geary Act of 1892. For ... Show more

45) From America's point of view at that time, it made sense to pass such legislation that prevented
disease and even future crime. The passing of the Immigration Act of 1891 paved the way for even
more restrictive legislation. The Geary Act of 1892. This act strengthened the already existing
Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 by extending the ban on Chinese becoming citizens (Daniels, 1997,
p. 14). It is now generally acknowledged that the Chinese exclusion act was an unfortunate mistake.
The discrimination was uncalled for with the main reason being that the Chinese were stealing jobs
(even though they were often jobs the Americans did not want). Other restrictions that applied to the
general immigrant population were also passed at this time.
Another piece of key legislation was the Anarchist Exclusion Act of 1903. This was in response to
the "assassination of of President McKinley by an American–born anarchist with a foreign name"
(Daniels, 1997, p. 60). On March 3, 1903, President Theodore Roosevelt signed the Act into law.
One might think something like this would already be in place, but it took a tragic event for real
action to be taken. The Anarchist Exclusion Act denied Anarchists or people who support

The Causes Of The American Immigration In The United States?
Immigration in the United States, has always been a contentious issue both in modern times and
historically. Besides Native Americans, every citizen in the United States can claim their ancestry
from an immigrant, but not all immigrants were treated equally. In particular, the Irish and the
Chinese faced massive conflicts with the native citizens of the United States. These populations
were seen as foreign intruders, criticized for their foreign culture, language, and, poor status.
American citizens who felt strongly against their massive immigration numbers created state and
federal legislation targeting their communities. The Irish and Chinese were targeted differently, but
treated similarly as both were vulnerable to American xenophobia and placed as second–class
citizens. The United States gained its independence from England, but retained its Anglo–Saxon
protestant roots, and that is what they were most comfortable for their citizens. There were biases
and distrust of even other Europeans if they did not fit the mold of what was then considered
American. An example would be in the book "Major Problems in American Immigration History"
when Benjamin Franklin is stating, "Why should Pennsylvania, founded by English, become a
colony of Aliens, who will shortly be so numerous as to Germanize us instead of our Aglifying
them, and will never adopt our language or customs, any more they can acquire our complexion"
(Gjerde, 72). This sets the sentiment by which both the Irish

Gilles's claims against Lyons University (LU) and Fancy School of Dentistry (FSD) revolve around
three issues in particular: Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) guidelines, disability–
related regulations, and Section 1983 of the Civil Rights Act.
FERPA Guidelines The first question Gilles's lawyer must address is whether FSD violated FERPA
regulations by documenting Gilles's hand tremors in his permanent file and disclosing that
information to LU. As an institution receiving Title IV student financial aid funding, FSD must
follow FERPA regulations. These regulations safeguard the confidentiality of students' educational
records, which are any documents directly related to the student maintained by the educational

Chinese Discrimination In America
The presentation in class by Ricky Thao has thought me a lot about Chinese Americans. Chinese
Americans, who are one of the largest minorities in the Asian community, have a long history,
culture and have faced discrimination in America like many other minorities. The Chinese
Americans history began during the colonial era when many minorities started moving to the U.S.
seeking job opportunities and a better life. Throughout the history they have influenced the country
in many ways and their culture has become a part of the American culture. Also like other
minorities, they have gone through a lot of struggles to make a name for themselves. And through
the presentation and the information I gathered I was able to learn about the Chinese.

Vincent Chin was twenty–seven when he got beaten to death by Ronald Edens and Michael Nitz in

problem is since the auto companies were not upgrading their vehicles people were losing their jobs
but instead of fixing the problem they decided to blame the Japanese because they were doing a

American Indian Reservations
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 26.6 % of single race American Indians and Alaska Natives
were living in poverty in 2015, the highest rate of any race group (American Indians By The
Number). This statistic is even more surprising when informed the Indian Reservations are managed
by the Federal Government. The Indian Removal Act, Federal Trust Doctrine and Reservation
Period played a major role in current Native American economics. These historical policies were
designed over 200 years ago to prevent Native American prosperity and they need to be eliminated.

the Native American communities. President Andrew Jackson signed the policy ... Show more

The Indian Appropriations Act of 1851 authorized the establishment of legally recognized
reservations in the United States (Indian Reservations). The land which makes up the reservations
are owned by the United States Government. This allows the Government to mediate and dictate
everyday life of the Native Americans.
Chief Justice John Marshall established the foundation of laws pertaining to the Native Americans in
1831, through the Federal Trustee Doctrine. The Supreme Court verified the Federal Government
was the trustee of Native American affairs, instead of the State. Most of the policies made,
pertaining to Native Americans, were created from the seed of this policy. This type of verbiage and
ideology is why the Government is to blame for the current economic struggle on reservations.
The information previously stated gives credence in which the U.S. Government is fully responsible
for the prevention of Native American prosperity. The Native Americans are restricted from utilizing
the land for agriculture and energy resources. It was designed this way, from policies created in our
history, to hinder prosperity and make a once great society reliant on its conquer. If the land
dedicated to reservations were to be relinquished and managed by the tribes, then reservation
economics would be able to flourish. It's time to exterminate these ancient policies and give the

The Gi Bill And How It Effected Student Equity
Introduction Prior to this assignment student veterans were a portion of the student population that I
had no prior experience or knowledge of interacting with outside the scope of my history of higher
education course reviewing the components of the GI Bill. The assignment allowed me to get an in
depth historical analysis of the GI Bill and how it effected student equity in higher education from
its establishment. I have come to understand the services students veterans possess but as well as
some of the limitations they face being advocates for themselves in order to receive their benefits. In
revolving around the topic of student equity, my team's research found a wealth of knowledge from
higher education scholars who see the need of the GI Bill in further providing student equity to
student veterans. Scholars saw the important qualities that the GI Bill possess and advocated for
further services in assisting student veterans and their families in not only understanding their
medical benefits but also create a supportive community on campus. The overall goal of researching
the GI Bill and by doing so includes student veterans is that the bill provides equitable support to
returning students that have served, support for dependents of those who serve(d), and the growing
student population student veterans are becoming through the new GI Bill. Historical Analysis The

Congress Must Reform Current Legislation Restrict...
Affirmative Case Congress must reform current legislation to restrict bioprospecting on federal land,
and regulate the amount of monetary gain that landholders can receive from bioprospecting
companies that use their resources. The National Park Service is a smaller government agency
within the Department of Agriculture. This is the agency that is in dire need of legislation to restrict
bioprospecting, and manage the profit margin that national parks can receive from allowing
bioprospecting companies to use their resources.
Observation I – Harms/Significance/Motive The Department of Agriculture manages land owned by
the federal government. As a result, the Department of Agriculture would enforce laws regarding
how the federal government might profit from prospecting natural biological resources within the
United States. However, if Congress does not pass legislation to dictate when, where and how
bioprospecting can be profited from then individual agencies may characterize bioprospecting as
"scientific research."
It is moral and legally ethical to use bioprospecting profits for maintaining national parks. The
Biodiversity Treaty sanctioned that countries whose biological resources are exploited by
bioprospecting companies have a right to share the financial benefits resulting from the sale of these
resources (Adair, 1997). National parklands are owned by the federal government. Therefore, our
national parks have the legal right to share in the financial benefits that

The New Deal did more than just bring jobs, it helped improve individuals lives and the way they
were able to live. We could go on and on talking about each legislation and what it did for the
people, but we can conclude that these pieces of legislation helped the United States get out one of
the most difficult times in history. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt put the United States on his

for the government that FDR did not intend it to be. That standard would be the increase of control

Analysis Of Reyna Grande's The Distance Between Me
In the memoir The Distance Between us, written by Reyna Grande in 2012, U.S., Reyna Grande told
her story from childhood to adulthood, she described her relationship with her family and how it
was affected by the distance between them. In her childhood, she was separated from her father and
later from her mother, making her live with her grandmother Evila. A few years later, her mother,
Juana, returned to Mexico, but she wasn't the same happy and sweet mother Reyna had remembered,
and it was because Reyna's father got another woman. Later in the story, Reyna's father returned to
Mexico and decided to take the kids with him to the U.S. In the second half of the memoir, Reyna
described her life in the U.S., her experiences, the abuses she received and how she went through a
lot of things to become a successful woman. At the ending of the story, she described her feelings
towards her father in a bittersweet way: "What was needed was something I was struggling to give–
my forgiveness. The day before my thirty–sixth birthday, I found myself at my father's hospital bed
as his life support was turned off. As I held my father's hand, and my life with him flashed through
my mind, I thought about that question I had often asked myself: If had known what life with my
father would be like, would I still followed him to El Otro Lado? You made me who I am, I thought
as he took his last breath. And I knew then that the answer to my question was yes" (322, Grande).

2012, and although the U.S. Senate passed the 2012 Farm Bill, the House of Representatives has

How Does Farm Subsidies Affect The Economy
Like much of the midwest, Indiana is especially dependent on agricultural success to boost their
economy. Farming is the backbone of the Hoosier state, with 57,500 farming operations functioning
in 2016, per the United States Department of Agriculture. While Indiana relies heavily on the
agricultural sector of their economy, the agricultural sector in turn often relies upon subsidization.
According to "Food Policy: Looking Forward from the Past", a book written by Arlene Spark and
Janel Obenchain, "An agricultural subsidy is governmental assistance paid to farmers and
agribusiness to supplement their income, manage the supply of agricultural commodities, and
influence the cost and supply of such commodities." Now that we accurately ... Show more content

The Farm Bill only faced minor changes up until 1996, when a Republican Congress in favor of
deregulating the industry redrafted the legislation to allow for more free market engagements. Since
then, the debate over deregulating and unsubsidizing farmers has grown immensely.
Although farm subsidies all have their roots to one major piece of legislation, there are multiple
variations that are common. One of such subsidy programs allows farmers to counter fluctuations in
various aspects of their production. If prices for a crop take astounding hikes or fall dramatically,
subsidies can provide in time of need. This is the most well–known farm subsidy program, but there
are other aspects that get remarkably overlooked. Even insurance coverage, product marketing,
research and conservation efforts are subsidized under the current Farm Bill. With the present
situation, many Americans believe that the government carries too much control in the agricultural
market. For a more detailed breakdown of where the funding in the Farm Bill goes to, see the pie
chart below for a reference. These numbers are accurate as of the 2014 Farm Bill, per the National
Sustainable Agriculture Coalition.

The Political Philosophy Of Colorado

  • 1. The Political Philosophy Of Colorado Political Philosophy Politics are very influential in the shaping legislation that has an effect on healthcare policy. The politics of Colorado are considered to be moderate because the state's electoral votes have varied between Democratic and Republican presidential nominees in the past. For example, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama won the states electoral votes in the recent past. On the other hand, the state has seen a greater number of Democratic governors than Republican ones. Currently, the state's legislature is a combination of Democratic and Republican legislators, which will definitely have an effect on current and future healthcare reform attempts. The political philosophy of the state can be seen on the healthcare policy decisions. Some decisions, such as the expansion of Medicaid, reflect the liberal leanings of the legislators. While other decisions, such as enacting the Federal Breast and Cervical Cancer Prevention and Treatment Act of 2000, illustrated the conservative views of the policymakers who fought against the legislation (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2015). Recently, Colorado is one of the many states that are challenging the individual mandate in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). Like other states, the healthcare system is dependent on the political philosophy of the current legislature. Surprisingly, the Republican and Democratic parties of the state collaborated together to create the state's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Interference With Agriculture In The United States And Idaho Zach Putzier English 101 6 September 2015 Interference with Agricultural Production Agriculture in the United States and Idaho has been around since man was able to farm the land on which they lived. This country was built on hard work and determination which is what agriculture stands for. The population of the United States all have a background in agriculture through family roots whether we know it or not. With the rich history that agriculture has, things haven't changed too much, granted the world has come a long way from horses pulling plows, and gathering crops by hand. From the farmer's point of view to coalition groups we will discover more about what this bill is, what it does, and the views each side has on this topic. The Interference with Agricultural Production law states that, it is illegal to obtain employment in an agricultural facility by force, threats, etc. Agricultural facilities are classified as dairies, slaughter houses, and livestock or agricultural operations. It is also illegal to apply for employment or enter a facility with the intention to cause harm to the facility, livestock, crops, etc. "Agricultural Production" facilities means activities associated with production of agricultural products, food, fiber, fuel, etc. Any person that is convicted or found guilty or pleads guilty is to make restitution to the victim. The punishment for this crime if found guilty is a misdemeanor and imprisonment for no more than one year or the perpetrator has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. History Of Career And Technical Education Career and Technical Education has played a large role throughout the history of the United States and Ohio specifically. The legal history of Career and Technical Education in the United States and the state of Ohio has a long history dating back to the 1800s. Career and Technical Education is also at the forefront in current legal news: a bill sitting in committee and a push for more Americans to study in Career and Technical Education–related fields. With Americans realizing that not everyone can or wants to attend college or university, Career and Technical Education is relevant and so is its long history in the United States and, more specifically, Ohio. Before 1862, there was really no legal history for Career and Technical Education. However, Congressman Justin S. Morrill of Vermont proposed a bill in 1857 to have federal support in agricultural and industrial education. President Buchanan did not support the legislation, so there was no action on the bill. In 1861 however, Morrill reintroduced his bill to the House of Representatives. President Lincoln later signed it in summer of 1862. This act gave public lands to build colleges for agriculture and mechanical arts in each state. Each state, within five years, had to provide a college or the state would be revoked of the grant. This set the stage clearly for the rest of the legislation in what is now known as Career and Technical Education ("Independent Action" 38). The first major legislation in Ohio for Career ... • 7. Background Of Organic Agriculture Organic agriculture Background of organic agriculture Organic agriculture started in the early twentieth century, mainly in Europe, but also in the United States. The term organic farming came from the term humus farming which emerged from soil management. The term "organic" was first used by Northbourne (1940). Northbourne used the term to characterize farms using humus farming methods because he believed that the system imitates the flows of nutrients and energy in biological organisms. Organic agriculture became visible on a wider scale in the 1960s, when farmers and consumers became concerned that the number of chemicals used in crop and animal production could have negative consequences for human health and the environment. Therefore, the word "organic" was intended and used to describe a process and method that is considered as environment friendly because of the sustainable fundamental principles such as: the lack of chemical use, the desire to reverse erosion, soil depletion, decline of crops varieties, low quality food and livestock feed, and rural poverty (Kuepper 2010). What is the meaning of "USDA Certified Organic" The fact that organic produce may not be distinguished from conventional products at a glance; a set of standards such as a third–party certification is needed. Organic produce certification is the process according to which public or private certification bodies provide assurance that organic products have been produced and handled according to ... • 9. The Effects Of Terrorism The events of September 11, 2001, spurred feelings of anger, fear, patriotism, and nationalism across the United States. The events of that day are as monumental in United States history as the assassination of J. F. Kennedy. The effects of the 9/11 terrorist acts on the political consciousness of the general public are comparable to those of the Vietnam War. However, the effects of the terrorism in 2001 on subsequent U.S policy making, especially foreign policy, was unlike anything in the history of the United States. The terrorism prompted a reorganization of the federal government that has been described as the most extensive and complicated since the 1940s (Kettl, 2013, pp. 63–64). Although the United States had experienced terrorism in several forms before the attacks of September 2001, they had never been as spectacular and devastating as the September 11 attacks. Prior to the attacks, support for counterterrorism programs and legislation was weak. After the attacks, counterterrorism programs and legislation became a primary agenda. Nine days after the terrorist attacks, President George W. Bush established an "Office of Homeland Security" within the White House by executive order. The executive order also created a council charged with the development and implementation of a comprehensive strategy to protect the U.S from further terrorist attacks. Homeland Security was envisioned primarily as a counter–terrorism measure, but it was, in fact, an effort to establish ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Chinese American Contributions Chinese–Americans have been an important part of our American society since they emigrated from their homeland of China. They are the largest group of Chinese people outside of China and they make up 25.9% of our Asian immigrants and 1.2% of our American population as of 2010. The cities with the highest percentage of ethnic Chinese in the U.S. are San Francisco (21.4%), Honolulu (10.2%), and Oakland (8.7%). They are one of the top earning groups in America and have higher average scores on tests like the SAT and ACT than the average American. They have made important contributions such as building the western portion of the Transcontinental Railroad and sharing agricultural expertise in California. They were the first non–whites to immigrant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Exclusion Act put restrictions on free immigration for 10 years. The Chinese had to receive a certificate to enter the United States. To get the certificate, you had to be "competent" to enter and that was hard to prove. If they broke this requirement, the Chinese were imprisoned and then deported. Even the California Governor saw this was wrong and stated, "the most valuable immigrants, barred from the United States." But he didn't do anything to oppose the bill, in fact no one did. The Chinese couldn't oppose the bill because they weren't citizens, which in turn meant they couldn't vote and had no power to influence decisions. They also had no friends in Congress. • 13. Diana Martinez And The American Dream When she was just five years old, Diana Martinez came to the United States with her parents on hopes of living the "American Dream." Some might say she is achieving the American Dream. She is currently attending Texas A&M University with aspirations of becoming a Spanish teacher. But she's not just looking for a better life for herself, she's also hoping to create a better life for the rest of her family. "I am the only person in my family that has received DACA. I feel like my entire family is depending on me to better our futures," Martinez says, "I know it isn't right, but I need to do this for my family. And I can't do that if Congress decides to end DACA." She is just one of 124,300 DACA recipients in the state of Texas and of the 800,000 recipients across the nation that will be affected if DACA is discontinued. Another big worry for Martinez is that her parents are not United States citizens. "The application for DACA asks to include the address where my parents live. They know where to find my parents. I feel like we have been betrayed. Like they will go into my parents' home in the middle of the night and deport them." On September 5th, President Donald Trump announced that Congress had until March of 2018 to decide if the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA) should be legalized or if it should be terminated. If so, the lives of 800,000 recipients could be changed. Historical Background of DACA In 1986, President Reagan introduced IRCA or the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Beach V. Ocwen HISTORY The Truth in Lending Act (hereafter "TILA") has engendered many conflicting opinions regarding two distinct issues: first, what actions constitute the act of rescission under 15 U.S.C. § 1635 (hereafter § 1635); and second, how courts should apply the Act's statute of limitations under § 1635(f) to acts of rescission under § 1635(a). The issue of a mortgagor's act of rescission has been widely debated since the Consumer Leasing Act of 1976 amended TILA to include the provisions at issue, and the courts cannot agree on what is actually required to effect a rescission, while the Supreme Court has definitively resolved the issue of temporality when a mortgagor attempts to rescind their mortgage in the case Beach v. Ocwen, decided in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ocwen, the borrowers David and Linda Beach built a house in Florida in 1986 by securing an $85,000 construction loan from Fidelity Savings Bank of Florida. Later that same year, they refinanced their house through Great Western Bank. Five years later, in 1991, they stopped making payments on their mortgage, and the next year the bank initiated a foreclosing proceeding. At that time, the Beaches raised the defenses found in §§ 1635 and 1640. The Circuit Court of the 15th Judicial Circuit of Florida rejected the Beaches's defense of rescission because their right to rescission expired in 1989, when the three–year period of § 1635(f) had lapsed. The appellate court affirmed this decision, as well as the Supreme Court of Florida. The United States Supreme Court granted certiorari to determine "whether under federal law the statutory right of rescission provided by § 1635 may be revived as an affirmative defense after its expiration under ... • 17. The Segregation Of The United States Throughout history, many laws have been created to keep America as white as possible. Many white people, such as Tim and Mary Anne Walsh, Marianne Bardolino, and Beverly Sowell, believe that America has been taken over by non–white immigrants; and as a result, makes them wonder if this really is a "white country." Many generations of Americans have been perceived as immigrants, but overcame racism, and are now recognized as "white," but the new non–white immigrants are treated with the same disdain and disrespect that their fellow white immigrants received throughout history. Webster's Dictionary defines race as, "any one of the groups that human beings can be divided into based on shared distinctive physical traits." (Mirriam–Webster) However, ideas about race have been altered over time. There have been many laws passed that limit the number of immigrants allowed in the United States. For example, the Johnson–Reed Immigration Act of 1924 limited the number of immigrants allowed in the U.S. based on a racial census and completely excluded Asian immigrants. Only 2% of the total number of people of each nationality as of the 1890 national census received visas. This led to a divide within immigration because some races were more abundant than others, and as a result, a new racial map was formed. The Chinese Exclusion Act (1882) banned Chinese immigrants from entering the United States. This act also led to a divide within immigration because there were less Chinese ... I Am A Senior Accountant Working For Cape Tisbe International I am a senior accountant working for Cape Tisbe International (CTI) and am writing this business report concerning the issue of a great amount of money ($4 million) that has been paid to a PNG government minister as "Consulting Fees" recently. In this report, I would like to identify the fact , the issues needed to be tackled regarding this payment, and then discuss the possible consequences derived from these "Consulting Fees", subsequently I will offer some plausible solutions in coping with this issue in a long–run global development. Facts A year ago, CTI signed a contract for farm machinery, worth $25 million, with Papua New Guinea(PNG). Recently, however, when I was conducting the annual internal audit, I have discovered some issues associated with this signed contract. As soon as I found something wrong with the contract's accounting records I communicated with George but his answer has not addressed my confusion and concerns. Soon after that I had a chat with my boss Gareth, but I failed to gain a satisfied answer again. After the conversation with both of them, thus, I decided to dig it a bit further. Now I discover that the actual sales revenue of the contract was $21 million due to around $4 million that has been paid to a PNG government minister as "Consulting Fees". I understand that the payment was paid to a certain person in order to secure the contract and maximize the wealth of our company. According to the relevant regulations and rules provided by ... • 21. Federal Budgetary Function, And The Oversight Function Essay The 3 most significant powers of Congress are The Budgetary Function, The Law Making Function, and The Oversight Function. 1. The Budgetary Function – Congress solidified their role in the budgetary process by passing the Congressional Budget Act of 1974. The Act modified the role of Congress in the federal budgetary process. It created standing budget committees in both the House and the Senate, established the Congressional Budget Office, and moved the beginning of the fiscal year from July 1 to October 1. The Act had two main goals: (1) strengthen and centralize Congress ' budget authority; (2) reduce the President 's impoundment authority. The latter was done by drafting detailed guidelines restricting how the President can impound funds already appropriated by Congress. 2. The Law Making Function – is a form of the state activity intended on the creation (or revision) of the legal norms. Bills are introduced by a variety of methods. After introduction, bills are sent to designated committees which, in most cases, schedule a series of public hearings to permit presentation of views by persons who support or oppose the legislation. The hearing process, which can last several weeks or months, opens the legislative process to public participation. When a committee has acted favorably on a bill, the proposed legislation is then sent to the floor for open debate. In the Senate, the rules permit virtually unlimited debate. • 23. The Importance Of Immigration In America America was built by people who came here to find justice and to find freedom. History means quite a lot to the people of America and also very much affects how the United States government works today. The history principle is one of the five principles of politics. How America started matters. What was done in the past that is being done now? What has changed? Every conflict that the government comes across has a history. For every topic, however, history will not always prevail and repeat. However, without history, government will not know why events happen. History has proven to be a factor in many subjects but one very important and highly touched upon subject is the subject of immigration. Immigration, a topic that is constantly being talked about in American media and government today, took root way back when. When the US Constitution went into effect, Congress was given full control over immigration laws and regulations. Everything was fine in the 1700s and the early 1800s where the Americans promoted free and open immigration. The immigration policy was not questioned until the late 1800s. After the civil war, many states passed laws regarding immigration. After these laws were passed, the federal government declared that it was their responsibility to take control over immigration. As time progressed in the 1880s, more and more immigrants were coming to America in pursuit of freedom and therefore taking many American jobs. The federal government decided something ... They have purchased the Island of Manhattes from the savages for the value of 60 guilders" (para.3). Why does Peter see the natives as savages as an immigrant? It May be possible that the Algonquian Indians were concerned about their homeland security? Can they be concerned about their foreign policy, and the protection of their worldviews? The problem here is Peter's immigration status, Should not impede the worldview of the Algonquian Indians. Now he needs governmental assistance. Monsma (2008), believes that "when– government becomes directly involved in addressing human rights abuses, the question often arises whether to put economic, diplomatic pressure on the offending country or to establish dialogue and create cultural and economic ties" (p. 174). With such heavy focus on corn, I would like to draw attention to a measure taken by the United States government, the Federal Agriculture Improvement and Reform Act of 1996. This act increased the amount of farm land that is meant to be used in the States for growing corn from 60 million acres to a whopping 90 million acres. Such a significant increase cannot go without some kind of effect. Although a 2002 agriculture law superseded many parts of FAIRA, acreage was still increased because of the growing demand for corn in animal feed, the need for corn in ethanol manufacturing, and the increased possibility to make food with corn byproducts. These seem to be good and fair reasons to focus our efforts on increasing output, however, the same issue arises: the more corn that is made, the less stable a livelihood farming becomes, regardless of the subsidies that the federal government provides. The increase in corn production and acreage that comes from FAIRA is yet another slap in the face to the American farmer. By allowing for increased corn production on top of the already surplus of corn that domestic farms already produce, the government is actively lowering the price of corn on the market, making it less profitable for farms to grow and forcing a lot of farms to close down. In the Great Depression era, the United States government under President Roosevelt took to subsidizing and buying up excess stores of corn to maintain crop prices and prevent the collapse of the farming industry in the United States (Pollan 49). This protects farmers and allows them to make a living while also providing reasonably priced crops to feed the country with. In 1965, the 89th Congress got rid of the quota system on immigration (only a certain amount of immigrants can come in from specific countries) and replaced it with a system that was more equitable. According to Roger Daniels, Congress successfully replaced the former quota system because it was seen as very discriminatory toward Asians and Eastern Europeans especially. The Immigration Law was not intended to have major consequences, according to Daniels, but it ended up causing a high influx of South American and Asian immigration over the following decades. Although Daniels presents a good argument and is correct in that Congress succeeded in their initial plans, he does not give many specific reason, and he argues that the consequences of the bill were not foreseen, which is incorrect; many people did see and were afraid of the consequences the bill might bring. In addition, the primary sources' argument provides for scenarios that Daniels did not account for having to do with the underlying intent of the bill; like that it could have been spurred by diplomatic relations and war. According to Daniels, the 1965 law was enacted to end the 1921 and 1924 laws that started the quota system because the quota system was seen as discriminatory toward people of Asian descent, specifically: "American law had [previously]...permitted only 'white persons' and those of 'African descent' to become naturalized. School Lunch And Breakfast Programs Essay Thomas Edison, a world–renowned inventor, once said: "The doctor of the future will no longer treat the human frame with drugs, but rather will cure and prevent disease with nutrition" (Norton). While medicines and antibiotics can be very useful in certain situations, nutrition is key in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. However, many students cannot maintain a healthy lifestyle due to a lack of nutrition in school foods. In order to solve this problem, stricter standards must be implemented into school lunch and breakfast programs. To effectively improve the nutritional value of foods offered by both primary and secondary schools, stricter legislation must be enforced by the United States Government. While it may seem that nutritional problems are only affecting schools in the United States, many other nations are experiencing similar problems. For example, many schools in Wales do not provide healthy, nutritious choices for their students. According to the National Foundation for Educational Research, 17/26 secondary schools in Wales offer chips on a daily basis and 22/26 secondary schools in Wales offer cakes on a daily basis" (Nicholas, et al. 38). • 47. People V Hall Analysis SOCIAL DISCRIMINATION/EXCLUSION ACTS: People v. Hall (1854), was a notable case that went down in history because it made discriminating against the Chinese seem perfectly reasonable and ethical. The jury tried to charge George Hall for the murder of a Chinese man Ling Sing. There were three Chinese witnesses, who claimed Hall was guilty, but the California Supreme court, notably Chief Justice Murray established that "no black, mixed race or Chinese could testify against a white man." Hall was effectively freed, and the ruling made it okay to discriminate against the Chinese. This was followed up by the Statues of California/Chapter 13 (1858) and the Page Act of 1875, which were one of the first restraining federal migration rules that banned the entry of specific migrants considered "unwanted." The statues specifically prohibited Chinese and Mongolians from entering the state except when driven ashore by weather or unavoidable accident. Furthermore, the 1880 Naturalization Law generated a system of a check for nationalization and fines for deceitful practices. It notably extended the naturalization process to people of African descent but refrained from extending it to people of Asian descent due to anti–Chinese sentiment in the western states. Additionally, a distinctive aspect that sets the Chinese apart from all the other AAPI groups was the fact that they were the first Asian–American group to be exposed to exclusionary acts such as the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882. The Act efficiently halted Chinese immigration and prohibited Chinese from becoming naturalized citizens. It was ordained in reaction to widespread economic concerns and fear about maintaining white purity. The U.S. government did not stop; they successively issued more discriminatory acts into the law. One such proposal was the Scott Act of 1888, which banned Chinese workers abroad or who intended future travels from returning to America. The act expanded on the Chinese Exclusion Act and stranded thousands of Chinese outside the United States. Furthermore, the Chinese Exclusion Act was renewed for another decade by the Geary Act (1892). Geary Act by itself established a central system for all Chinese inhabitants in America. It became ... The passing of the Immigration Act of 1891 paved the way for even more restrictive legislation. The Geary Act of 1892. This act strengthened the already existing Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 by extending the ban on Chinese becoming citizens (Daniels, 1997, p. 14). It is now generally acknowledged that the Chinese exclusion act was an unfortunate mistake. The discrimination was uncalled for with the main reason being that the Chinese were stealing jobs (even though they were often jobs the Americans did not want). Other restrictions that applied to the general immigrant population were also passed at this time. Another piece of key legislation was the Anarchist Exclusion Act of 1903. • 51. The Causes Of The American Immigration In The United States? Immigration in the United States, has always been a contentious issue both in modern times and historically. Besides Native Americans, every citizen in the United States can claim their ancestry from an immigrant, but not all immigrants were treated equally. In particular, the Irish and the Chinese faced massive conflicts with the native citizens of the United States. These populations were seen as foreign intruders, criticized for their foreign culture, language, and, poor status. American citizens who felt strongly against their massive immigration numbers created state and federal legislation targeting their communities. The Irish and Chinese were targeted differently, but treated similarly as both were vulnerable to American xenophobia and placed as second–class citizens. The United States gained its independence from England, but retained its Anglo–Saxon protestant roots, and that is what they were most comfortable for their citizens. There were biases and distrust of even other Europeans if they did not fit the mold of what was then considered American. An example would be in the book "Major Problems in American Immigration History" when Benjamin Franklin is stating, "Why should Pennsylvania, founded by English, become a colony of Aliens, who will shortly be so numerous as to Germanize us instead of our Aglifying them, and will never adopt our language or customs, any more they can acquire our complexion" (Gjerde, 72). The New Deal did more than just bring jobs, it helped improve individuals lives and the way they were able to live. We could go on and on talking about each legislation and what it did for the people, but we can conclude that these pieces of legislation helped the United States get out one of the most difficult times in history. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt put the United States on his back and guided them through a vicious jungle. These legislations set a new standard of operation for the government that FDR did not intend it to be. That standard would be the increase of control within the White House in the influence of legislation, as well as the continued measurement of the first 100 days of a new President's term, which has been a unique measurement. FDR brought on a standard where key legislation ideas and pressure can be centered inside the White House. During the first 100 days FDR was the face and the light that the people saw and behind the scenes his advisors were formulating how the New Deal would take shape. The creation of new parts of the government, skyrocketing the footprint of the federal government throughout the country, and the development of a stronger federal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of Reyna Grande's The Distance Between Me In the memoir The Distance Between us, written by Reyna Grande in 2012, U.S., Reyna Grande told her story from childhood to adulthood, she described her relationship with her family and how it was affected by the distance between them. In her childhood, she was separated from her father and later from her mother, making her live with her grandmother Evila. A few years later, her mother, Juana, returned to Mexico, but she wasn't the same happy and sweet mother Reyna had remembered, and it was because Reyna's father got another woman. At the ending of the story, she described her feelings towards her father in a bittersweet way: "What was needed was something I was struggling to give– my forgiveness. The day before my thirty–sixth birthday, I found myself at my father's hospital bed as his life support was turned off. As I held my father's hand, and my life with him flashed through my mind, I thought about that question I had often asked myself: If had known what life with my father would be like, would I still followed him to El Otro Lado? You made me who I am, I thought as he took his last breath. And I knew then that the answer to my question was yes" (322, Grande). The Distance ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is a place where visitors can dabble and have a glimpse of Asian tradition, heritage, and culture – be it through food, literature, art, or entertainment. Whether in New York, San Francisco, Seattle, or Philadelphia, the lively neighborhood offers diverse, rich, and meaningful cultural experience to new and familiar faces. While some may recognize this neighborhood as a place to grab dim sum, karaoke, or buy arts and craft, the creation of Chinatown is much more complicated – and dark. Racial discrimination is and remains to be a significant makeup of the American landscape; this essay will examine the anti–Asian sentiments associated with the origins of America's oldest and most historic Chinatown located in San Francisco. In addition, this essay will describe the current challenges faced by San Francisco's Chinese community from the city's politicians and residents. The California Gold Rush and the development of the First Transcontinental Railroad, both of which occurred during the mid–nineteenth century, marked a wave of the Chinese immigration to the US. Crossing over to the West where rumors of gold laid, caught the interest of many Chinese people. Every five to seven years, federal legislation sets the general direction of agricultural policy (American Farmland Trust [AFT], 2012a). The U.S. Farm Bill of 2008 expires on October 1, 4 2012, and although the U.S. Senate passed the 2012 Farm Bill, the House of Representatives has failed to either pass a new bill or enact a short–term plan (National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition, 2012). The importance of this year's Farm Bill is that it includes conservation compliance measures (AFT, 2012b). The National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition [NSAC] (2012) is a nonprofit agency that employs direct advocacy, grassroots movements, and public education to promote institutional reform and natural resource conservation. This group recognizes the need for federal funding and regulation of farms, and it responds by using its financial and time resources to get information to farmers and establishing a respected office in D.C. (NSAC, 2012). While the NSAC supports other aspects of sustainable agriculture, such as buying locally grown food, most of their work is geared towards getting information to farmers and Congressmen/women about agricultural practices and programs. • 77. How Does Farm Subsidies Affect The Economy Like much of the midwest, Indiana is especially dependent on agricultural success to boost their economy. Farming is the backbone of the Hoosier state, with 57,500 farming operations functioning in 2016, per the United States Department of Agriculture. While Indiana relies heavily on the agricultural sector of their economy, the agricultural sector in turn often relies upon subsidization. According to "Food Policy: Looking Forward from the Past", a book written by Arlene Spark and Janel Obenchain, "An agricultural subsidy is governmental assistance paid to farmers and agribusiness to supplement their income, manage the supply of agricultural commodities, and influence the cost and supply of such commodities." Now that we accurately ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Farm Bill only faced minor changes up until 1996, when a Republican Congress in favor of deregulating the industry redrafted the legislation to allow for more free market engagements. Since then, the debate over deregulating and unsubsidizing farmers has grown immensely. Although farm subsidies all have their roots to one major piece of legislation, there are multiple variations that are common. One of such subsidy programs allows farmers to counter fluctuations in various aspects of their production. If prices for a crop take astounding hikes or fall dramatically, subsidies can provide in time of need. This is the most well–known farm subsidy program, but there are other aspects that get remarkably overlooked. Even insurance coverage, product marketing, research and conservation efforts are subsidized under the current Farm Bill. With the present situation, many Americans believe that the government carries too much control in the agricultural market. For a more detailed breakdown of where the funding in the Farm Bill goes to, see the pie chart below for a reference. These numbers are accurate as of the 2014 Farm Bill, per the National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition. Plenty of benefits have steamed from the implementation of subsidizations in the agriculture industry. First, farmers are receiving a more consistent income than they were before the government's subsidies were enacted. As stated by Connect Us Fund, subsidies allow ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
