3.  To do so, the first step should be to
designate a regular location to complete
homework. Pick a spot free of distractions
like the television and people talking on the
phone. Set aside a certain time every
evening as homework time, such as 6:00 to
7:30. For children who do not respond to
such structure, parents should set
guidelines, such as mandating that
homework is finished before participating in
certain recreational activities.

4.  Parents, however, should not make all the
rules. Suggest a time and location for
homework, and let children cast their vote.
For example, some students may prefer to
complete all their homework immediately
upon returning from school, leaving the rest
of the evening free, rather than wait until
after dinner. Others perform better when
permitted to release energy and unwind
immediately after coming home for the
day.
