2. PAVE Academy prepares kindergarten
through eighth-grade students to excel in
high schools and universities. The school
opened in 2008 in Red Hook, Brooklyn, a
neighborhood where many schools have
failed to prepare students for higher-learning
institutions. PAVE Academy offers a
demanding yet effective academic
program and an environment structured
around academia.
3. In January 2013, PAVE Academy relocated
to its new permanent home, a 40,000-
square-foot building that stands as the first
new elementary school in Red Hook in over
50 years. The classrooms provide space for
students and teachers to spread out and
engage in learning activities, such as music
and art courses. Teachers have decorated
their classrooms with educational posters,
the school motto, and other learning-oriented
accessories, such as chess boards
and art supplies.
4. The move to the new location did not disrupt PAVE
Academy's exceptional educational curriculum.
Examples of the school’s high-quality educational
offerings include a 70-minute literature course, which
consists of guided reading and writing assignments.
Students are given personal copies of every novel
assigned to them, enabling them to make
annotations and build a library for home.
Additionally, math instructors at PAVE embrace
Cognitively Guided Instruction, an innovative
mathematics teaching approach that encourages
students to solve problems through logical reasoning
that can be applied to future assignments.
