4. Internet of Things
● is a set of devices and systems that interconnect real world sensors and
actuators to the internet
5. The devices range from:
● wireless sensor networks - measuring weather patterns, tidies, flood defences,
etc.
● internet connected wearable devices, including health and fitness monitoring
devices, watches, and even human implanted devices
● devices that connect via Bluetooth enabled mobile phones to the internet
● low power embedded systems
● RFID enabled tracking
● smart homes with automation systems and lightning controls
● smartphones wich are increasingly being used to measure real-world data
● and many more
6. Solutions
● Body & Health
● Smart Home
● Smart City
● Industry & Business
● The Environment

10. Classes of devices
● Minimum Level - with an embedded 8-bit system-on-chip controllers, but no
embedded Operating System
eg: Arduino Uno, Flora
● Mid level - systems based on Atheros and ARM chips that have very limited
32-bit architecture, and an ebedded Operating System.
eg: Arduino Yun
● Most capable level - full 32-bit or 64-bit computing platforms running a full
Operating System such as Linux or Android. eg: Raspberry Pi, BeagleBone
