How Does Lela Make The Best Of Keeping Corner
To Learn and to Teach While Keeping Corner
In the historical fiction novel Keeping Corner by Kashmira Sheth, Leela a spoiled, selfish girl,
unaware of the things happening around her. Leela lives in India where the tradition is for a widow
to keep corner for one year after their husband has passed away, so the majority of the book talks
about Leela's struggle to make the best of her time keeping corner. Throughout the novel, Leela
learns many lessons that open her eyes to the world and helps grow and mature.
One example of how Leela grows is when her parents finally give in to allowing Leela to take
lessons from Saviben, her old principal. In the beginning of Leela's journey of keeping corner, she
doesn't feel that learning is necessary, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the beginning of the novel, Leela was a delicate dependent little girl. Leela finally finishes her
year of keeping corner, and is warned of the terrors that widowed women face every day. Leela goes
out to get a bucket of drinking water, and is pulled aside by a man wearing all black. In the moment
she didn't know what to do but ultimately, she decides to stab him in the arm. Further, when he tries
to grab her again, she stabs him in the other arm and threatens to stab him in the eye. When she gets
home, bawling, Kaki says that, "God was with her, and her courage too." Leela had the courage to
step out of the house, and further attack the man. It was later found out that the man was_____ and
that many people succumbed to him, and she was able to defend herself. To prove that Leela grew to
become more courageous, she continued to go out of the house, no longer scared of the world

The City Of Southern Mexico ' Los Lobos ' Meaning The...
There once was a small village in Southern Mexico called "Los Lobos" meaning The Wolves. The
village was named that because the hills that the village were built on, it was inhabited with wild
wolves and the people had to be careful where they went. A family was going down there to visit
their relatives including Bryan and his nephew Miguel. They were very excited since it was their
first time visiting Mexico, but it all changed once they got closer to the small village which was
filled with dirty streets and homeless families begging for food. The sad scenery looked like
something you would see only on T.V, but it was worse and the saddest thing he had seen. They
finally arrived in the state of Guanajuato where the village was at. They ... Show more content on

Many of the old people in the village had claimed they had been marked by the witch when they

family was enjoying their first chilly night under the stars that were clearly visible unlike how they
were back home. It was a perfect time for Bryan and his nephew to ask their grandmother to tell
them the story of the witch on the corner of Babylan St. that was just 4 houses away. Bryan finally

Personal Narrative : Halloween : The Ghost Story Of Halloween
Lauron Chaney
1 odd
Mr. Yoder
Ghost Story Halloween. As a kid you see it as a chance to play dress up and a game of who got the
most candy. As a teen, you see it as a game of who can host the best party, find the scariest people,
or find the scariest places. Lucky for me, I won the unspoken teen game, all on Halloween night. It
was around 7:00 when I began prepping for my annual Halloween party. It was just like the parties
in the movies you watched as a child. It had loud music, dancing, and too many costumes to count.
Everyone left by 10:30 to make their curfew, but a few of my friends stayed to help clean up. When
we finished cleaning, we decided to take on the challenge of finding the scariest place. Anna, Alli,
Gracie, and I set off to find the scariest place. We used our phones as flashlights and walked through
the corn field. As we were walking, I heard something following us. The rustling corn stalks I heard
from behind us stopped. I wondered to myself why the noises stopped until my unspoken question
was answered. Anna, Alli, Gracie, and I gathered in a circle and trembled with fear as we looked
into their hungry eyes. We began to walk back slowly, but they started chasing us. Anna and Alli
took off in a sprint back to the house while Gracie and I ran the opposite way. We continued running
as the gray colored and slender figured animal finally stopped. I ask Gracie, "What would we have
done if those large claws and teeth got us?" Gracie shrugged, being too scared and out of breath to
answer. We tried to call Anna and Alli, but our phones were dead. All we could do is hope that they
made it back. Gracie and I kept walking to see if we could find anything scary.
We finally found our way out of the corn field and continued our journey on a gravel road. We
followed the road all the way out of the corn field and continued our journey on a gravel road. We
followed the road up to an old house. The closer we got, the house looked even worse. Right before
we knocked on the door, I could've sworn I heard someone whisper, "Go, before it's too late." This
made the hair on the back of my neck stand up and made me very numb. With my hand in a fist,
prepared to knock, I was frozen in fear. Gracie looked

Terrace Housing In Australia
The terrace housing was built for the middle class – our white collar workers who have managed to
escape the slums. These houses were very common in Australia, especially in the heart of
Melbourne and Sydney. The terrace was not big enough to fit the average family however, it was a
vast improvement compared to the slums. Usually there were four bedrooms – two on top and two
on the bottom, as well as a kitchen/dining room. Isolation could be utilised if a communicable
illness struck, however the houses themselves were packed in rows next to each other, therefore
increasing the risk of bacteria and disease being spread from house to house. The gabled roof was a
common characteristic of a terrace house and was made out of slate or corrugated

Summary: The Color Of Water By James Mcbride
In The Color of Water by James McBride he faces plenty of obstacles in his life. One that I think
was very important during his childhood is in chapter 14 where makes a few bad choices after his
stepfather, Hunter Jordan, dies. Since James didn't get to know his biological father, Hunter was the
closest he ever came to having one. He makes it clear that his family loved Hunter and when he died
they were all devastated but none as much as their mother. It's safe to say she wasn't the same and
that can be seen when McBride says "She sent us off to school and tried to maintain her crazy house
as usual, ranting about this and that, but the fire was gone" (McBride, 137). I think his mother's
behavior no doubt had some effect on the way he acted. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Everything started going downhill from there and that's where the conflict of interest begins. James
left the house in the mornings but didn't go to school and says himself that he was practically a
dropout. "I spent as much time away from home as possible. I quit church and avoided my deeply
religious godparents. I was the first kid on my block to smoke cigarettes and reefer" (McBride, 138)
shows the ways he was acting out, also including stealing from freight cars with his friends. He was
even caught by the police once. With James out of the house all the time, his mother suffered more
because no one was there to help her with her young children. He was hurting but was too stubborn
to admit it and "reefer and wine helped me to forget any pain, and as the pain and guilt increased,
my problems with drugs worsened" (McBride, 142). All the while his mother knew nothing about it.
Until one day when he gave her a forged report card with a grade unlike his usual ones and she
called the school only to find out something way worse than what she expected. From then on,
James spent the summers with his sister Jack in Kentucky who his mother thought could straighten
him out. Jack's husband lets James run free with him and he finds himself often at a place called the

Raz pulled the plastic booties on over his feet and took a couple steps. It reminded him of the
padded booties he'd worn as an EMT, only lighter and more flimsy. The fox rubbed the fabric
between his fingers, then reached around back to pull the tail flap around his bushy tail. It sealed at
the top with a Velcro strip. "Don't get your fur caught in the Velcro." His new boss, Kilik, a squat
vulture with a thin neck and scarred beak, grinned at him from the protection of his own plastic suit.
"Yeah, yeah. I've worn suits before." Raz brushed a black paw over the plain plastic front of his suit.

Winnie The Pooh Research Paper
Alan Alexander Milne also know as, A. A Milne was a famous English writer throughout his life.
One legacy Milne left behind, was the short story series "Winnie the
Pooh." The author identified the character Christopher Robin after his own son and his animal
playmates who were inspired by the real Christopher Robin's stuff toys.
An example of a short story in the hundred acre woods where Pooh, Piglet and
Rabbit lived. The Rabbit invited Piglet and Pooh to a sleepover at Rabbit's home. After dinner, Pooh
and Piglet were on their way to the bathroom when, Rabbit questioned
"Where are you going"? Pooh replied "to the bathroom." "Why?" asked the Rabbit. "So we don't get

The popular success books that Milne was best known was, Winnie–the–Pooh and The

Eeyore, bouncy tiger Tigger, kind kangaroo Kanga and her baby Roo along with the wise
Owl, and shy Piglet.
All in all, Milne left behind a legacy of novels and short stories such as , "Peace with Honour,"

Houses In Pompeii
The exterior of the house is fairly plain. The main entrance (pictured top right) opens off the west
side of the Vico Dei Vettii just north of its junction with the Vicolo di Mercurio. Save for this
entrance and a side door near the south east corner the exterior walls were unbroken except for
small, square windows some of which were in low second storey rooms (an artist's reconstruction of
what the house may have looked like is pictured right).
Like several other notable houses in Pompeii, the house was a casualty of bombing during the
second World War. In late September 1943 allied bombs caused considerable damage to the
property, particularly along the north side of the peristyle. The structural damage was repaired but

Descriptive Essay On A Christmas Creature
The Christmas Creature
It's a typical December 24, cold, snowy, and jolly as can be. Though my friends and I are away from
the elements safe in our basement, we are playing the new Call of Duty. Spirits high, Christmas is
just around the corner. L.J. a close athletic partner that I have played with for a while was at my
house, he was the best Call of Duty player I knew, a tall, lean, blonde haired boy. Izak was at my
house as well, a shy, orange haired kid that kept to himself most of the time. And myself, a blonde,
short haired kid, somewhat short and skinny. All was normal, and fun a usual, until...
I was sitting out the round, izak and L.J. still playing, L.J. kicking his butt like a rented mule as
usual, we often didn't care because he was nice about it, most of the time. After the round was over
we decided that we would go outside like our parents had requested a couple of hours ago and sled.
We quickly got our stuff on, none of us could stand the music that our parents listened to. So we
quickly shut the door behind us, and began talking about school and sports. The sled hill was one
block away, so we took our time walking there. Just before we got out of the neighborhood, we
painfully clenched our ears, we heard a loud krbooom and then a terrifying screech. Not hesitating
we ran, only stopping once to look behind us, a a long lanky creature standing on two legs with
horns like a goat, looked me right in the eye, I could tell this by its great yellow eyes. By that point
we were at an all out sprint, we turn on a sharp corner and took cover by a tiny snow fort some
young kids had made.
"Whaaat wa–as that?" Izak barely muttered. L.J. is speechless, on the verge of tears he says, "We
gotta play less video games." I respond quickly by saying, "I saw the thing, it look like a standing
goat with black hair, and very, very yellow eyes, that was real!" We stopped momentarily to review
the scary moment we have just encountered.
"Surly others people had to have heard that thing, right?"
Thinking for a moment, I say, "We should go back to my house, and see what happened."
L.J., outraged, sputters in a low yell, "Are you crazy, we will get killed by that thing."
I pause, " well what else are we supposed

we went to his house so he could change. After that, we walked to the REC. On our way, we saw a

Maple Street Narrative
The house on Maple street was a huge house that sat on the corner of Maple and Broad street. The
house was occupied by a small family. The family was kind of strange but was nice to everyone. The
only thing was that the family kept to themselves and really didn't talk to anyone. But one day the
Neighbor across the street on Broad Street facing the House of Maple street saw the family through
the window and something odd was going on. He saw a very strange bright night from the
basement. At first he taught it was fire or something burning in the basement. So he decided to take
a look. Bill the Neighbor walked out his door and down Broad street and walk on the dark sidewalk.
When he got down to the corner of the street he stared at the house.

Have You Ever Heard Of The Saying “Cause There’S A Two
Have you ever heard of the saying "cause there's a two for one down at the corner store." For many
years people would consider going to a corner store rather than a grocery store. Despite how small, a
corner store is a business that sells groceries and a limited range of household goods for reasonable
and cheap prices in mainly residential areas. The store is a destination business for customers to
visit. Everyone in that neighborhood will utilize a corner store when they need to buy something

House Of Sand And Fog And The American Dream
To many people, the United States is more than just a country; it's a place of ideals. To some, those
ideals are liberty and freedom. To others, the American Dream is democracy and unity between all
people. Many people, especially immigrants, see the many opportunities that America offers as its
greatest ideal. House of Sand and Fog, by Andre Dubus III, focuses extensively on economic
opportunity, telling the tale of former Iranian Colonel, Massoud Behrani. Behrani hopes to strike it
rich in the real estate market with a home he bought, so he can work towards restoring his family's
honor. Sadly, his dreams fall flat and his entire family ends up dead. Hotel on the Corner of Bitter
and Sweet, by Jamie Ford, is about social opportunity America can offer. A young Chinese boy
named Henry Lee becomes good friends with a Japanese girl named Keiko during World War II,
despite that their people have long been enemies. When the government sends Keiko and her family
away to an internment camp, Henry is separated from perhaps his only friend. Both House of Sand
and Fog and Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet discuss the opportunities that America offers,
and how sometimes these opportunities fail people. Most people would see the American Dream as
the ability to chase economic success, and Colonel Behrani is no different. Behrani is not a very
kind or likable person, but in the end, he just wants to restore the wealth and social status that he
once had by selling a house the

The House At Pooh Corner
Richard Robinson, the President and CEO of Scholastic Inc., the world's largest publisher and
distributor of children's books, said that a great children's text contains a simple and original idea, is
written with humour and makes the world more interesting. Despite being published in 1928, A.A.
Milne's The House At Pooh Corner remains a highly effective children's text. The text meets the
criteria set out by Richard Robinson and it has been able to do so through its good uses of literary
elements such as style, themes and characters. Some examples of this can be linked to the works of
various developmental theorists such as Jean Piaget, Lev Vygotsky and Erik Erikson. Most children
like humour, and other "funny things" in general. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The text's humorous style is therefore very important in drawing the attention of its readers. The
themes of this text are very simple but are important and easily conveyed to the young readers.
Some of the themes include sharing, cooperation and generosity. In Chapter 1, Eeyore feels sorry for
himself and thinks that "The others will be sorry if I'm getting myself all cold... one of them will
begin to say to himself: 'Eeyore can't be so very much too Hot about three o'clock in the morning.'
And then it will Get About. And they'll be Sorry." (P9–10) But on the contrary, Pooh and Piglet
realise that Eeyore does not have a house and they were quite worried so they decided to build a
house for him. "'I've been thinking of Eeyore... poor Eeyore has nowhere to live... You have a house
and I have a house... poor Eeyore has nothing... Let's build him a house." (P7) This is a perfect
example of the the aforementioned themes where Pooh and Piglet work together to help and care for
Eeyore. The remarks by Eeyore are very self–centred because he is believing that everyone should
be focusing on him and that they should feel the same way he does. On the other hand, Pooh and
Piglet are not so worried about themselves but are thinking about Eeyore instead. These two
phenomena are described as egocentrism and "decentering" respectively in the Pre–Operations Stage
of Jean Piaget's Stages of Cognitive Development. Piaget stated that children between the age of 2
and 7 are usually "ego

Starting from the corner and then pulled out a few feet and lightly pressed the paper tape in. Then
you have the knife and put it against the tape and pull away from the corner. This will make a tight

Personal Narrative Of A Crime Scene
On February 9, 2011, at approximately 7:15 AM, I, GBI Special Agent Abigail Wilkes, arrived at
293 Stone Road to process a crime scene involving two deaths. When I arrived, the crime scene was
secured with yellow tape. I met with Deputy Sheriff Ray Chandler. Chandler told me that the two
victims, Steve Campbell and Sherry Campbell, had two gunshot wounds each. Sherry Campbell
died in the master bedroom of the residence, but emergency medical services (EMS) took Steve
Campbell from the scene. Chandler informed that the EMS personnel entered the residence through
the front door and placed Steve Campbell on a stretcher. Steve Campbell 's injuries created a blood
drip trail when he was transported to the ambulance. The drip trail began in the master bedroom,
went through the hallway, out of the front door, and into the yard of the residence. Steve Campbell
died on the way to the hospital.
On the day of the investigation, the sky was clear and the temperature was 28°F.
I used my Canon Rebel camera to take photographs of the entire scene.
The residence is a single family dwelling with a wooden frame, brown wood siding, a shingled roof,
and a partially finished basement. The double doors on the screened in porch open to the west and

are probably going to drive far so they take a "Pit Stop" to there lemonade stand. While they were
getting the cups ready, A white truck stopped near the lemonade stand to see what the kids were
doing. The man parked his car beside the lemonade stand, the man stepped out of his truck to buy

forgot his water at his house and he needed to go to the hospital because his mom was not feeling
well. Luke handed the man a full cup of lemonade. The man handed Luke $5. The man drove off
with a smirk on his face. After a hour or so no one came, so the kids were getting worried that there

inside. Luke handed his mom the $5 with nervousness, because luke knew that he could make more
money then that. So the kids went into Nine's room to think of a new way to make money. Timothy

Who Is Howard Nemerov's 'The Vacuum'?
In 1955, an English poet named Howard Nemerov published a lyrical poem that contains three
stanzas, titled The Vacuum. The title of the poem symbolizes the speaker's wife, who is usually
performing house cleaning. The speaker of the poem is an old widower who misses his wife and
cannot bear to use the vacuum because it reminds him of her. And the tone of the speaker is angry;
angry with the life that he is now living in which is the house is "quiet . . . [and] filth" (lines 1–11),
without his wife. Additionally, the poet utilizes literary devices in which are personification,
metaphor, simile and imagery to compose such poem. The vacuum personifies the wife and her
daily routines. As the speaker stated, "The vacuum cleaner sulks in the corner

How To Build A Houseboat
If I lived on Mr. Plumbean's street, I would rent a backhoe and shovel all the dirt out of the property
until I had formed a one hundred foot by one hundred foot, thirty six foot deep, square hole that took
up the entire piece of land on which the house had previously sat. Now you may be asking yourself,
"This guy is a nut. What does he expect to do with a one hundred by one hundred foot hole in the
ground?" and I have that covered, just keep reading. So after I had a 100'x100'x36' square hole in
my property, I would bring in tank after tank of water until I had brought in 360,000 cubic feet of
water to fill the hole. Now I have a semi–large pond or a small lake, what do I still intend to do with
that?
I plan on building a 4900 square foot (70 by 70), three story houseboat that takes up 49% of the
lake/pond. The other 51% (5100 square feet) would be dedicated to swimming and other
recreational pastimes (at the bottom of the page is a bird's eye view of the property). This sounds
pretty awesome right? Well next I'm going to tell you about the inside of the houseboat.

Winnie The Pooh Movie Vs Book
A.A. Milne's story, Winne–the–Pooh, has caught the eyes of children for several years now. Milne
originally wrote the story in 1926, as a bed time story to his son, Christopher Robin Milne, which is
a character in the story. The moral of the story was to always have fun with your friends. Walt
Disney bought the rights to the story in 1966, later making a movie in 1977 called The Many
Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. The moral of the movie was that your friends are always there for
you. Walt Disney pretty much stayed true to the original story but did make some minor changes.
Some of the changes him and his team made were the heffalump story, Winnie the Pooh's character,
and Eeyore's personality. Even though these may seem like small changes, the moral of the story has
changed a slight. Milnes and Disney's story of Winnie the Pooh are very similar but have some
differences. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Which is the same as the book but what Pooh doesn't see is Rabbit wants him out so desperately.
Rabbit constantly is trying to get him out and complaining about it. The book is similar but not to
that extent. In the movie, the Gopher starts out by saying, "there he goes, he's sailing clear out of the
book, we turn the page!' Eeyore says 'Stuck again' Christopher Robin then said 'Don't worry Pooh
we'll get you out!' Pooh says 'No hurry, take your time!'" (The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
1977). Pooh is in another situation just like that. All that happens in the movie is Pooh getting into
situations. He ends up getting out of all of them. In the book, Pooh is able to get out of things and
enjoy life. The last difference that is really noticeable is Eeyore's personality. In Milne's version,
Eeyore is a sad donkey. His birthday comes around and no one notices. Pooh asks him what is
wrong and he says it's his birthday. Pooh ends up telling everyone so they can get him a gift. One by

My New House
We lived in Troy for 30years and have moved three times for three new houses. The last one lasted

facing the north and the east–wing facing the east. The patio and backyard will be located at the
inner corner of the L. It would be surrounded by the buildings from the east and north wings and

Construction of the Child through Character in Milne's...
In this book there are who different characters of Christopher Robin (CR). There is, in one realm of
narration, CR the listener of the story and in another, there is CR the character in the story. These
two characters are quite different. CR, the child over whom the narrator can exercise adult authority
is shy, listens to stories, takes baths and plays with toys while the CR the character is the main
authority, goes to parties, expeditions and heroic rescue missions.
CR the character seems to possess similar characteristics of the adult narrator. The adult narrator is
not only the symbol of authority but is also nurturing. With reference to authority characteristics, the
adult narrator has the power to begin and end the story and ... Show more content on

When Pooh's head is stuck in the vase CR laughs at first before helping him out. These mistakes as
well as the spelling errors are seen only by the adult reader just as CR can see the amusing errors of
the animals. These mistakes may suggests the adult view of childhood where children make foolish
and amusing mistakes from which they will eventually learn. By appointing this position of
authority to CR the character suggests that the narrator not only appeals to CR the listener and other
listeners but also gives them a character to strive to be like. This then leads to another characteristic
of CR the character as nurturing as something that listeners could strive to be like.
Just as the adult narrator is concerned about CR the listener's sensitive emotions and vulnerability,
CR the character also shows sensitivity to the animals' emotions. CR is described by the narrator as
one of the `nicest people'. He is an emotional, warm and loving child as he `rushes into the bears
arms'. Showing sensitivity to Winnie the Pooh's feelings, CR humours Pooh when he plays along
with his rain cloud idea so as not to criticize and hurt his feelings. When Pooh sticks in Rabbit's
hole, CR reads stories to comfort the bear. When Pooh's sense of self worth weakens, CR provides
comfort e.g. "you're the best bear in the world" said Christopher Robin soothingly'. When the other
animals have problems, it is CR on whom they all rely for help. To them, CR provides a

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Patrick Henry's Speech
Voice of The Revolution On March 23, 1775, He gave a speech to be remembered as the "Give Me

Henry addressed the House of Burgesses. The men in the House of Burgesses argued against staging
a war opposing the British accordingly the men did not want to raise a militia, although other
northern countries did. Patrick Henry uses pathos to convince the men of the House of Burgesses to
raise a militia or voluntary army to fight against the British. The members might feel obligated to

The Beloved Children's Storybook, Winnie the Pooh by Alan...
Introduction
Winnie the Pooh is a children's storybook written by one of the most famous children's British
writers, Alan Alexander Milne in 1926. Milne's inspiration of the character was from a stuffed
animal that his son, Christopher Robin owned in the nursery. Therefore, Milne made up a special
bedtime story for and about his son; it was about a "silly old bear", some other animal friends and
many pots of honey. The Pooh series, including Winnie the Pooh and The House at Pooh Corner
were instant big hits in England.
Till this day, the stories of Pooh are still being read. It inspired adult works like The Tao of Pooh and
many other children's titles including playbook, cloth books for babies, and not to mention the

Pooh having to be such appealing character is by no accident. The book Winnie the Pooh and
Disney's film adaptation together make an effort to attract the world's attention. The story by Milne
and the lively pictures by Edward Shepard, the illustrator inspired Disney's adaptation;
characteristics in the book and film coincide with each other to make such successful creation. This
essay will take the objective view to analyze in what ways the book and film attain its three
important purposes of writing and filming, which grant them the honor of world–known storytellers
and Pooh as an enduring and successful character.
Further from noting the three purposes of writing and filming of Milne and Disney, this essay will
explore the textual features including the written, non–written expression and the conceptual parts of
texts.

Unless clearly stated by the author, it is not possible for reader to fully comprehend author's mind
and recognize his or her intention of writing. However, by looking at the historic background, other
textual evidence, and with logic deliberation one might be able to have a glimpse of what author's
general purposes were.
On 18 January 1882, Alan Alexander Milne was born in Hampstead, London. According to Milne's
school report, as a six–year–old he could already "speak 556 words per minute and write more in

But it saddened me to see these kids dirty and smelly from the outdoors. But, kids will be kids and if

The Setting of The Jolly Corner and The Devil's Advocate...
The Setting of The Jolly Corner and The Devil's Advocate Evoek the Supernatural
The Oxford English Dictionary defines "supernatural" as "That which is above nature; belonging to
a higher realm or system than that of nature; transcending the powers or the ordinary course of
nature." Through the duration of mankind's existence, humans have been fascinated with a higher
power that defies the laws of nature. Supernatural themes have stimulated literature and the arts,
both ancient and modern. Many parallels can be connected between stories involving the
paranormal. The setting of "The Jolly Corner" and The Devil's Advocate evokes the preternatural. In

Another element of setting in which the supernatural is evoked is the time of day in which the story
takes place. The majority of the story takes place at night and during twilight. The cleaning lady,
Mrs. Muldoon, says that she won't stay in the house during the dark hours of the night, suggesting
that uncanny happenings occur during the night. Spencer Brydon always entered the house during
twilight symbolizing that he is at a threshold crossing in which he will transform himself into his
doppleganger. The night and twilight setting stimulate a dark and mysterious feeling towards the
house. Finally, the last major detail that evokes the supernatural within the setting is the location of
the house. The house is located on the west side of town, which is closer to his origin (United States
of America). The house being on the west side symbolizes what he may have been if he had stayed
in the United States of America. This suggests that his doppleganger of the person he would have
been if he had stayed in the United States is actually present. Another work that suggests the
supernatural through it's setting is The Devil's Advocate. In this movie, Keanu Reeves, who plays
the main character, is a lawyer. He moves to New York, a dismal city, to work for a law firm. The
owner of the law firm is secretly his father and the Devil. When Reeves meets the owner, Al Pacino,

know each other very well. The neighbourhood connection is an important part of the short story
"To the Corner" written by Jess Walter and told by a (third–person omniscient point of view) or
shifting point of view. This story focuses on a 75 years old man Leonard Darvin who lives alone in a
small house after his wife dies. This leads him to think to commit suicide. The story is also about a
group of teenagers who always hang out in a specific corner in front of Leonard house. The action of
the boys makes Leonard have a negative thought about them. Coming back to the point, this short

The characterization of the short story helps us to know better about how the characters of the story
are connected to their neighbourhood because of their behaviour. Let start with Leonard Darvin, he
is a 75 years old man who is depressed after his wife dies this makes him be isolated and unsocial
with the world, by living alone in a small house. The old man is living in his house for almost fifty
years, and he wants to stay there, while his home's value is increasing. On the other hand, in the
story, when Leonard is thinking of the boys in the corner the author mention that Leonard's brothers
sell their house for cash and settle themselves in Seattle and Portland. This shows us that Leonard is
connected to his neighbourhood because he does not want to sell his house for cash and go to live
somewhere else, where he will know nothing about his neighbourhood. In Addition, when Leonard
is thinking about the boys in the corner in front of his house, the writer announces; "for fifty years,
he engaged the neighborhood kids, shot basket with them, asked after their families and their
homework, hired them to rack leaves or help with his big garden" (Jess Walter). This reveals us

impact on everyone in the 100 acre woods. Pooh is show to be loyal and dedicated friend. Also,
Pooh is adventurous and always willing to help his friends at any sign of trouble. Furthermore,
Pooh's effect on his friends is seen to be very positive and this positivity provides insight into some
of the lessons young readers can learn from the lovable bear.
From Pooh's very first scene you get a glimpse into how adventurous he is when you see him trying
to get honey from the bee's nest. This hunger for adventure can be seen throughout most of the novel
as he is always helping his friends with an adventure. For instance, when he notices Christopher
Robin with his big red boots "Pooh knew that an Adventure was going to happen, and he brushed
the honey off his nose with the back of his paw, and spruced himself up as well as he could, so as to
look Ready for Anything"(Milne). Pooh did not even know what Christopher Robin wanted to do
but being his friend knew that he wanted to help with this adventure. Moreover, Pooh adventurous
nature teaches kids to be active and adventurous in their own lives. However Pooh's adventures are
not just because he likes the explorative nature of them, a lot of times they are for the benefit of one
of his friends. For example, when his good pal Eeyore loses his tail Pooh declares " "I, Winnie–the–
Pooh, will find your tail for you.". This shows that Pooh is selfless and his selflessness has a positive
impact on the 100 acre woods. Furthermore, it teaches kids that they should do things for others out
of the kindness of their own hearts just like Pooh does throughout the novel.
Another one of Pooh's best qualities which is show plenty of times throughout the novel is that he is
a loyal and dedicated friend. He is constantly trying to make things better in the 100 acre woods
through his actions. One example of this is when he gets Eeyore a gift for his birthday, even though
he ate the honey that was in

The village was named that because the hills that the village were built on, it was inhabited with wild wolves and the people had to be careful where they went. A family was going down there to visit their relatives including Bryan and his nephew Miguel. They were very excited since it was their first time visiting Mexico, but it all changed once they got closer to the small village which was filled with dirty streets and homeless families begging for food. The sad scenery looked like something you would see only on T.V, but it was worse and the saddest thing he had seen. They finally arrived in the state of Guanajuato where the village was at. They ... • 8. Personal Narrative : Halloween : The Ghost Story Of Halloween Lauron Chaney 1 odd Mr. Yoder Ghost Story Halloween. As a kid you see it as a chance to play dress up and a game of who got the most candy. As a teen, you see it as a game of who can host the best party, find the scariest people, or find the scariest places. Lucky for me, I won the unspoken teen game, all on Halloween night. It was around 7:00 when I began prepping for my annual Halloween party. It was just like the parties in the movies you watched as a child. It had loud music, dancing, and too many costumes to count. Everyone left by 10:30 to make their curfew, but a few of my friends stayed to help clean up. When we finished cleaning, we decided to take on the challenge of finding the scariest place. Anna, Alli, Gracie, and I set off to find the scariest place. We used our phones as flashlights and walked through the corn field. As we were walking, I heard something following us. The rustling corn stalks I heard from behind us stopped. I wondered to myself why the noises stopped until my unspoken question was answered. Anna, Alli, Gracie, and I gathered in a circle and trembled with fear as we looked into their hungry eyes. We began to walk back slowly, but they started chasing us. Anna and Alli took off in a sprint back to the house while Gracie and I ran the opposite way. We continued running as the gray colored and slender figured animal finally stopped. I ask Gracie, "What would we have done if those large claws and teeth got us?" Gracie shrugged, being too scared and out of breath to answer. We tried to call Anna and Alli, but our phones were dead. All we could do is hope that they made it back. Gracie and I kept walking to see if we could find anything scary. We finally found our way out of the corn field and continued our journey on a gravel road. We followed the road all the way out of the corn field and continued our journey on a gravel road. We followed the road up to an old house. The closer we got, the house looked even worse. Right before we knocked on the door, I could've sworn I heard someone whisper, "Go, before it's too late." This made the hair on the back of my neck stand up and made me very numb. With my hand in a fist, prepared to knock, I was frozen in fear. Gracie looked ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Terrace Housing In Australia The terrace housing was built for the middle class – our white collar workers who have managed to escape the slums. These houses were very common in Australia, especially in the heart of Melbourne and Sydney. The terrace was not big enough to fit the average family however, it was a vast improvement compared to the slums. Usually there were four bedrooms – two on top and two on the bottom, as well as a kitchen/dining room. Isolation could be utilised if a communicable illness struck, however the houses themselves were packed in rows next to each other, therefore increasing the risk of bacteria and disease being spread from house to house. • 12. Summary: The Color Of Water By James Mcbride In The Color of Water by James McBride he faces plenty of obstacles in his life. One that I think was very important during his childhood is in chapter 14 where makes a few bad choices after his stepfather, Hunter Jordan, dies. Since James didn't get to know his biological father, Hunter was the closest he ever came to having one. He makes it clear that his family loved Hunter and when he died they were all devastated but none as much as their mother. It's safe to say she wasn't the same and that can be seen when McBride says "She sent us off to school and tried to maintain her crazy house as usual, ranting about this and that, but the fire was gone" (McBride, 137). I think his mother's behavior no doubt had some effect on the way he acted. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Everything started going downhill from there and that's where the conflict of interest begins. James left the house in the mornings but didn't go to school and says himself that he was practically a dropout. "I spent as much time away from home as possible. I quit church and avoided my deeply religious godparents. I was the first kid on my block to smoke cigarettes and reefer" (McBride, 138) shows the ways he was acting out, also including stealing from freight cars with his friends. He was even caught by the police once. With James out of the house all the time, his mother suffered more because no one was there to help her with her young children. He was hurting but was too stubborn to admit it and "reefer and wine helped me to forget any pain, and as the pain and guilt increased, my problems with drugs worsened" (McBride, 142). All the while his mother knew nothing about it. Until one day when he gave her a forged report card with a grade unlike his usual ones and she called the school only to find out something way worse than what she expected. • 21. Descriptive Essay On A Christmas Creature The Christmas Creature It's a typical December 24, cold, snowy, and jolly as can be. Though my friends and I are away from the elements safe in our basement, we are playing the new Call of Duty. Spirits high, Christmas is just around the corner. L.J. a close athletic partner that I have played with for a while was at my house, he was the best Call of Duty player I knew, a tall, lean, blonde haired boy. Izak was at my house as well, a shy, orange haired kid that kept to himself most of the time. And myself, a blonde, short haired kid, somewhat short and skinny. All was normal, and fun a usual, until... I was sitting out the round, izak and L.J. still playing, L.J. kicking his butt like a rented mule as usual, we often didn't care because he was nice about it, most of the time. After the round was over we decided that we would go outside like our parents had requested a couple of hours ago and sled. We quickly got our stuff on, none of us could stand the music that our parents listened to. So we quickly shut the door behind us, and began talking about school and sports. The sled hill was one block away, so we took our time walking there. Just before we got out of the neighborhood, we painfully clenched our ears, we heard a loud krbooom and then a terrifying screech. Not hesitating we ran, only stopping once to look behind us, a a long lanky creature standing on two legs with horns like a goat, looked me right in the eye, I could tell this by its great yellow eyes. By that point we were at an all out sprint, we turn on a sharp corner and took cover by a tiny snow fort some young kids had made. "Whaaat wa–as that?" Izak barely muttered. L.J. is speechless, on the verge of tears he says, "We gotta play less video games." I respond quickly by saying, "I saw the thing, it look like a standing goat with black hair, and very, very yellow eyes, that was real!" We stopped momentarily to review the scary moment we have just encountered. "Surly others people had to have heard that thing, right?" Thinking for a moment, I say, "We should go back to my house, and see what happened." L.J., outraged, sputters in a low yell, "Are you crazy, we will get killed by that thing." To others, the American Dream is democracy and unity between all people. Many people, especially immigrants, see the many opportunities that America offers as its greatest ideal. House of Sand and Fog, by Andre Dubus III, focuses extensively on economic opportunity, telling the tale of former Iranian Colonel, Massoud Behrani. Behrani hopes to strike it rich in the real estate market with a home he bought, so he can work towards restoring his family's honor. Sadly, his dreams fall flat and his entire family ends up dead. Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, by Jamie Ford, is about social opportunity America can offer. A young Chinese boy named Henry Lee becomes good friends with a Japanese girl named Keiko during World War II, despite that their people have long been enemies. When the government sends Keiko and her family away to an internment camp, Henry is separated from perhaps his only friend. Both House of Sand and Fog and Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet discuss the opportunities that America offers, and how sometimes these opportunities fail people. Most people would see the American Dream as the ability to chase economic success, and Colonel Behrani is no different. Behrani is not a very kind or likable person, but in the end, he just wants to restore the wealth and social status that he once had by selling a house the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The House At Pooh Corner Richard Robinson, the President and CEO of Scholastic Inc., the world's largest publisher and distributor of children's books, said that a great children's text contains a simple and original idea, is written with humour and makes the world more interesting. Despite being published in 1928, A.A. Milne's The House At Pooh Corner remains a highly effective children's text. The text meets the criteria set out by Richard Robinson and it has been able to do so through its good uses of literary elements such as style, themes and characters. Some examples of this can be linked to the works of various developmental theorists such as Jean Piaget, Lev Vygotsky and Erik Erikson. Most children like humour, and other "funny things" in general. The themes of this text are very simple but are important and easily conveyed to the young readers. Some of the themes include sharing, cooperation and generosity. In Chapter 1, Eeyore feels sorry for himself and thinks that "The others will be sorry if I'm getting myself all cold... one of them will begin to say to himself: 'Eeyore can't be so very much too Hot about three o'clock in the morning.' And then it will Get About. And they'll be Sorry." (P9–10) But on the contrary, Pooh and Piglet realise that Eeyore does not have a house and they were quite worried so they decided to build a house for him. "'I've been thinking of Eeyore... poor Eeyore has nowhere to live... You have a house and I have a house... poor Eeyore has nothing... Let's build him a house." (P7) This is a perfect example of the the aforementioned themes where Pooh and Piglet work together to help and care for Eeyore. The remarks by Eeyore are very self–centred because he is believing that everyone should be focusing on him and that they should feel the same way he does. On the other hand, Pooh and Piglet are not so worried about themselves but are thinking about Eeyore instead. These two phenomena are described as egocentrism and "decentering" respectively in the Pre–Operations Stage of Jean Piaget's Stages of Cognitive Development. Personal Narrative Of A Crime Scene On February 9, 2011, at approximately 7:15 AM, I, GBI Special Agent Abigail Wilkes, arrived at 293 Stone Road to process a crime scene involving two deaths. When I arrived, the crime scene was secured with yellow tape. I met with Deputy Sheriff Ray Chandler. Chandler told me that the two victims, Steve Campbell and Sherry Campbell, had two gunshot wounds each. Sherry Campbell died in the master bedroom of the residence, but emergency medical services (EMS) took Steve Campbell from the scene. Chandler informed that the EMS personnel entered the residence through the front door and placed Steve Campbell on a stretcher. Steve Campbell 's injuries created a blood drip trail when he was transported to the ambulance. The drip trail began in the master bedroom, went through the hallway, out of the front door, and into the yard of the residence. Steve Campbell died on the way to the hospital. Milne originally wrote the story in 1926, as a bed time story to his son, Christopher Robin Milne, which is a character in the story. The moral of the story was to always have fun with your friends. Walt Disney bought the rights to the story in 1966, later making a movie in 1977 called The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. The moral of the movie was that your friends are always there for you. Walt Disney pretty much stayed true to the original story but did make some minor changes. Some of the changes him and his team made were the heffalump story, Winnie the Pooh's character, and Eeyore's personality. Even though these may seem like small changes, the moral of the story has changed a slight. Milnes and Disney's story of Winnie the Pooh are very similar but have some differences. ... Pooh is in another situation just like that. All that happens in the movie is Pooh getting into situations. He ends up getting out of all of them. In the book, Pooh is able to get out of things and enjoy life. The last difference that is really noticeable is Eeyore's personality. In Milne's version, Eeyore is a sad donkey. There is, in one realm of narration, CR the listener of the story and in another, there is CR the character in the story. These two characters are quite different. CR, the child over whom the narrator can exercise adult authority is shy, listens to stories, takes baths and plays with toys while the CR the character is the main authority, goes to parties, expeditions and heroic rescue missions. CR the character seems to possess similar characteristics of the adult narrator. The adult narrator is not only the symbol of authority but is also nurturing. CR is described by the narrator as one of the `nicest people'. He is an emotional, warm and loving child as he `rushes into the bears arms'. Showing sensitivity to Winnie the Pooh's feelings, CR humours Pooh when he plays along with his rain cloud idea so as not to criticize and hurt his feelings. When Pooh sticks in Rabbit's hole, CR reads stories to comfort the bear. When Pooh's sense of self worth weakens, CR provides comfort e.g. "you're the best bear in the world" said Christopher Robin soothingly'. When the other animals have problems, it is CR on whom they all rely for help. To them, CR provides a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 53. A Rhetorical Analysis Of Patrick Henry's Speech Voice of The Revolution On March 23, 1775, He gave a speech to be remembered as the "Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death" speech. Less than a month away from the Revolutionary War Patrick Henry addressed the House of Burgesses. The men in the House of Burgesses argued against staging a war opposing the British accordingly the men did not want to raise a militia, although other northern countries did. Patrick Henry uses pathos to convince the men of the House of Burgesses to raise a militia or voluntary army to fight against the British. Introduction Winnie the Pooh is a children's storybook written by one of the most famous children's British writers, Alan Alexander Milne in 1926. Milne's inspiration of the character was from a stuffed animal that his son, Christopher Robin owned in the nursery. Therefore, Milne made up a special bedtime story for and about his son; it was about a "silly old bear", some other animal friends and many pots of honey. The Pooh series, including Winnie the Pooh and The House at Pooh Corner were instant big hits in England. Till this day, the stories of Pooh are still being read. It inspired adult works like The Tao of Pooh and many other children's titles including playbook, cloth books for babies, and not to mention the popular Disney ... How I Learned To Go To The Southside Of Grand Falls The purpose of this study is to provide some informative information of what it's like to experience something in life that you have never done before. This experiment allowed me to be able to go somewhere where I never thought that I would ever feel comfortable in going to. I could allow myself some time to be able to walk around, interact, and communicate with those individuals within the inner city of Grand Rapids, Michigan. This place is my hometown and I decided to go to the Southside of Grand Rapids, where the crime rate is high and the individuals who make up the community do not have much. However, with sadness, as soon as I got out of my vehicle all I could see was the poorly trashed neighborhood filled with run down homes, children running around with dirty clothes, and men on the corners with guns and selling drugs. Inner City According to Thoms, it was found that 23 percent of children live in poverty, which shows to be a 40 percent increase over six years (Thoms, 2015). As I found this information prior to my observation, my eyes quickly went to the kids that were playing with run down toys on dirt because of the dying grass. The children were surrounded in filth and my eyes started to water so bad at what I saw. But my frown almost immediately turned into a smile because I noticed how much the kids were enjoying themselves without a care in the world. It's as though they didn't care about their surroundings and just were enjoying the moment. But it saddened me to see these kids dirty and smelly from the outdoors. But, kids will be kids and if they were happy, then it made me happy to see them happy. I was very much disturbed at the number of teens and older adults at the corner house on Bemis with guns. As I stared and looked at these men in designer clothes and diamonds, it made me wonder exactly what they were up to as they were looking just as fly as I was but were living in one of the filthiest areas in Grand Rapids. The Setting of The Jolly Corner and The Devil's Advocate Evoek the Supernatural The Oxford English Dictionary defines "supernatural" as "That which is above nature; belonging to a higher realm or system than that of nature; transcending the powers or the ordinary course of nature." Through the duration of mankind's existence, humans have been fascinated with a higher power that defies the laws of nature. Supernatural themes have stimulated literature and the arts, both ancient and modern. Many parallels can be connected between stories involving the paranormal. The setting of "The Jolly Corner" and The Devil's Advocate evokes the preternatural. In the "The Jolly Corner", a supernatural presence is displayed within the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another element of setting in which the supernatural is evoked is the time of day in which the story takes place. The majority of the story takes place at night and during twilight. The cleaning lady, Mrs. Muldoon, says that she won't stay in the house during the dark hours of the night, suggesting that uncanny happenings occur during the night. Spencer Brydon always entered the house during twilight symbolizing that he is at a threshold crossing in which he will transform himself into his doppleganger. The night and twilight setting stimulate a dark and mysterious feeling towards the house. Finally, the last major detail that evokes the supernatural within the setting is the location of the house. The house is located on the west side of town, which is closer to his origin (United States of America). The house being on the west side symbolizes what he may have been if he had stayed in the United States of America. This suggests that his doppleganger of the person he would have been if he had stayed in the United States is actually present. Another work that suggests the supernatural through it's setting is The Devil's Advocate. In this movie, Keanu Reeves, who plays the main character, is a lawyer. He moves to New York, a dismal city, to work for a law firm. The owner of the law firm is secretly his father and the Devil. When Reeves meets the owner, Al Pacino, it takes place in his ... The house would have a formal great room as well as a family room, two bedroom suites on the first–floor, plentiful walk–in closets, and a square shaped dining room to fit round table. In addition, various built–in wall display designs for art subjects, a large kitchen with a picture window, a sunny nook, a study next to the master bedroom, plus the first–floor laundry and utility rooms. The characterization of the short story helps us to know better about how the characters of the story are connected to their neighbourhood because of their behaviour. Let start with Leonard Darvin, he is a 75 years old man who is depressed after his wife dies this makes him be isolated and unsocial with the world, by living alone in a small house. The old man is living in his house for almost fifty years, and he wants to stay there, while his home's value is increasing. On the other hand, in the story, when Leonard is thinking of the boys in the corner the author mention that Leonard's brothers sell their house for cash and settle themselves in Seattle and Portland. This shows us that Leonard is connected to his neighbourhood because he does not want to sell his house for cash and go to live somewhere else, where he will know nothing about his neighbourhood. In Addition, when Leonard is thinking about the boys in the corner in front of his house, the writer announces; "for fifty years, he engaged the neighborhood kids, shot basket with them, asked after their families and their homework, hired them to rack leaves or help with his big garden" (Jess Walter). So it was no surprise that when the little Samariah Belloc came into her kindergarten class speaking of fairies in the garden, and gnomes on the jungle gym, that she was determined to squash that sort of thinking out of her classroom. That was why she became a kindergarten teacher: to squash the individuality out of a child early enough that by the time they were an adult, they would be a functioning member of society. Mrs. Ceccaroni had tackled some pretty tough cases before; a student who claimed that she was a fairy, a little boy who believed he could fly, but little Samariah Belloc proved to be a challenge. • 80. Winnie The Pooh Character Analysis "The Adventures of Winnie The Pooh" by AA Milne is book that focuses on the life of the loveable bear Pooh and his experiences with his friends in the 100 acres woods. More importantly than Pooh's experiences in the novel is how Pooh impacts his friends. Pooh is shown to have positive impact on everyone in the 100 acre woods. Pooh is show to be loyal and dedicated friend. Also, Pooh is adventurous and always willing to help his friends at any sign of trouble. Furthermore, Pooh's effect on his friends is seen to be very positive and this positivity provides insight into some of the lessons young readers can learn from the lovable bear. From Pooh's very first scene you get a glimpse into how adventurous he is when you see him trying to get honey from the bee's nest. This hunger for adventure can be seen throughout most of the novel as he is always helping his friends with an adventure. For instance, when he notices Christopher Robin with his big red boots "Pooh knew that an Adventure was going to happen, and he brushed the honey off his nose with the back of his paw, and spruced himself up as well as he could, so as to look Ready for Anything"(Milne). Pooh did not even know what Christopher Robin wanted to do but being his friend knew that he wanted to help with this adventure. Moreover, Pooh adventurous nature teaches kids to be active and adventurous in their own lives. However Pooh's adventures are not just because he likes the explorative nature of them, a lot of times they are for the benefit of one of his friends. For example, when his good pal Eeyore loses his tail Pooh declares " "I, Winnie–the– Pooh, will find your tail for you.". This shows that Pooh is selfless and his selflessness has a positive impact on the 100 acre woods. Furthermore, it teaches kids that they should do things for others out of the kindness of their own hearts just like Pooh does throughout the novel. Another one of Pooh's best qualities which is show plenty of times throughout the novel is that he is a loyal and dedicated friend. He is constantly trying to make things better in the 100 acre woods through his actions. One example of this is when he gets Eeyore a gift for his birthday, even though he ate the honey that was in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
