Beyond the EU: DORA and NIS 2 Directive's Global Impact
Steve Neale
1. Steve Neale
Steve Neale’s theory is that “genres can be seen as a means of controlling
demand.”
I think that this theory links with Nicholas Abercrombie’s theory as the barriers
between the different genres can be seen through the audiences. The ways
people dress used to reflect the genre of music they listened to. However, this is
not always the case. As times have changed audiences are not listening to just
one genre of music. Therefore it is usually more difficult to define someone by
his or her music genre choices.
For these reasons I think that my music video will appeal to audiences from
varying genres. As the track I will produce a music video for will be of the indie-pop
genre, the conventions used will hopefully attract audience members from
both music genres.
However, the “controlling demand” part of Steve Neale’s theory will also be
supported as I don’t think audiences who listen to Rock music or the classical
music genre will be interested in my music video.
I think that this theory can also be supported by David Buckingham’s theory that
“Genre is not simply given by the culture, rather, it is a constant process of
negotiation and change.” In the way that genre is constantly changing and the
audiences are influencing these changes.
I think that the changes in boundaries between different music genres influences
the audiences’ decisions on what they listen to. Sub genres that mix two or more
music genres together such as Rock-pop or indie-pop allow audiences to listen to
genres of music that contain conventions or similarities from more than one
genre of music.
