Covent Garden 1999 to Royal Albert Hall in London 2014.
4. TARGET AUDIENCE
• The majority of their target audience are young woman (18-24) who are into mainstream
alternative rock.
• Their fans tend to have a general interest for music and musical instruments. There is a mix of
personalities, a lot of shy and self conscious characters as well as mainstream charts listeners who
are outgoing.
• Other music artists they tend to also listen to (Their fans) are bands like Oasis, U2, Stereophonics etc.
Also alternative rocks whom are frequently played on the charts.
• Target audience is very British, enjoying hobbies such as pub quizzes and scrabble as well as
favorite dishes being pies and quiche. All popular aspects and meals in the UK. This helps portray
their average fan member. This all comes to no surprised as they are a British band whom started off
in Britain.
• Image is very humble and focuses on the art of their music. Their fans appreciate them for their
talent in producing songs and lyrics which is design so their audience can relate to them.
5. BUDGETS
• They are a big budgeted band who are signed with big mainstream label
companies. There is a mixture between the art of their songs having
meanings and abstract points of view as well as music videos which are very
band image focused such as Sky Full Of Stars.
• Access to loads of professionals both inside and outside they’re genre,
maximizing target audience on a global scale.
• Needed to make their videos: stylist, director, producers and designers.
• Image is very humble and focuses on the art of their music. Their fans
appreciate them for their talent in product songs and lyrics which is design
so their audience can relate to them.
6. HOW THEY CONSUME THEIR MUSIC
• Popular music platforms such as Itunes, Spotify and Vevo. These instant streaming music has
made it easier for users to consume their music on a global scale as all platforms are
international, allowing them to reach their fans from all over the world.
• Using popular apps and platforms which allows people to download their music will fit their
target audiences. Users which use these apps and platforms all generally listen to charts
music, where Coldplay is constantly being played or advertised as they are a mainstream
band with a British background. This is marketing their music towards their audience in the
easiest and most noticeable way.
• All of these marketing techniques have been a key factor to their success in reaching a
global/mainstream audience.
7. POSITIVES AND NEGATIVES
• A positive from researching their fan base has given me a better understanding of
what type of music video a mainstream artist would have as oppose to an
independent label. They focus more on image, giving their fans what they want with
big budgeted music videos.
• However a band like Coldplay are not like most mainstream bands, they have
always stuck to their genre and band image, and that’s what their fan base
appreciate most about them.
• A negative however, is the difficulty it would be to create a mainstream music video.
The bands have established their look and image therefore by trying to create a
music video with no backstory behind the band, could be difficult for the viewer to
understand what is going on.
10. BUDGET
By the setting and the props, I would say it
would’ve cost about $50,000 to make this new
video of there's.
The majority of the money would go towards the
camera and hiring out the studio. The props wouldn’t
have costed much and little money would have gone
towards the director and editor as well as lighting and
behind the camera crew. There wouldn’t be many
people on this set due to the video having just the
Kasabians in- no backup dancers.
11. RECORD LABELS AND
PERFORMANCES
• Record labels- RCA, Columbia, and Sony Music.
• Their first public appearance was at the Vipers Rugby Club to celebrate Edwards'
18th birthday with family and friends and band was soon spotted.
• Featured at Glastonbury Festival 2005 on the ‘Other Stage’.
• Ian Matthews asked them to tour with him in 2004 and joined them officially in April
2005.
• Kasabian won the Best Live Act award at the 2007 NME Awards.
• June 2011, Kasabian closed the Isle of Wight festival. They also headlined Rockness
festival and played at Rock Werchter in July.
• November that year they went on a full UK tour including two sold out gigs at the
Capital FM Arena in Nottingham.
• December 2011, Kasabian played a New Year's Eve concert entitled 'NYE:Rewired'
at the O2 Arena, London.
• Next 2 years they performed in North America, Canada, France, and they recently
headlined the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury Festival 2014 in June 2014.
12. TARGET AUDIENCE
• Young females
• They are becoming more popular as we speak, by hitting 49% of fans that
really like them.
13. CONSUME THEIR MUSIC
• Spotify
• Youtube
• Amazon
• This relates to target audience as many young people are using wide ranges
of technologies over the past decade, so it is very easy to find songs on
social media.
• Relates to their success as they are indie artists, and many indie artists need
to have a big fan base to keep going. Social media like Youtube for
example is very popular and easy to use, and as their videos are uploaded
to Youtube they are becoming more popular and successful.
14. POSITIVES AND NEGATIVES
• The positives are that they are more flexible in terms of their image, they are
cheaper to run and they have close relationships with their record label as it
is very niche.
• The negatives are limited on funding and have a smaller audience than
mainstream, so it is harder to gain the popularity they need to keep a high
status.
