Analysis of 3 Magazine Double Page Articles
Article Number 1 Q Magazine Lady Gaga
Page number Q title Date The Q title and page number is included In the bottom left of the page. If there was not a page number there then the reader would not be able to find the article from the contents page. Q is a highly respected and frequently read magazine, therefore by including the Q logo, it allows the reader some acknowledgement that they are reading Q magazine, and not an article that they have copied from somewhere. Main heading/headline The main heading that Q used simply states “Lady Gaga”. This implies that she needs no title as she is that important that her name says it all. They also used two different styles of font for the heading. This is effective because it makes the “Lady” look elegant and suave. It also makes the “Gaga” Big and threatening in capital letters, suggesting it could be a force not to be reckoned with within the music industry, 3 columns By creating 3 columns of text, it makes the article seem a lot more appealing and easier for the audience to read. This is because instead of having a huge block of text, the article is broken into 3 sections. This makes it a lot less stressful to read because you are less likely to lose your place on the article and makes t more pleasant to read. Main Image The main image used for this Article is Lady Gaga. It is important that the image relates to the article and as the article is based on Lady Gaga, it is only fitting to have an image of her too. Byline (credit for author and photographer) This allows you to know who is behind the work and the photographs of the article, so that the reader can research into them if they so wish, this is another example of good customer service. It also credits the author/photographer to show that they produce good work encase of further employment. Copy (text) begins with A large letter Y using Drops Cap By using a drops cap, it makes it clear where the article starts. It also makes the article look more interesting as opposed to having constant stream of text, it makes it appear more elegant. Q have also used a Large red “L” in the background of the article. This is to emphasis that it is regarding Lady Gaga. This is symbolised through the “L” from Lady.
Article Number 2 NME Magazine Florence And the Machine
Main Image The main image used for this Article is of Florence from Florence and The Machine. From her posture, it suggest that she is elegant and fashionable. She is also wearing make-up and well designed clothes which implies that she is extremely fashionable and could be an icon for other women. Page number NME title Date The NME title and page number is included In the bottom left of the page. This is especially important because it allows the reader to know they are reading NME and also if there was not a page number there then the reader would not be able to find the article from the contents page. Byline (credit for author and photographer) This allows you to know who is behind the work and the photographs of the article, so that the reader can research into them if they so wish, this is another example of good customer service. It also credits the author/photographer to show that they produce good work encase of further employment. Sub heading The sub-heading is an extremely useful technique. It is created in a slightly larger font to the rest of the article to draw the readers in. In provides that readers with a slither of the article to draw them in and intrigue them. The use of “ Attacking Herself ” draws the reader in as it provides them with gossip that they would want to know more about, and reasons as to why she would be attacking herself. Main heading/headline The main head-line quotes “ Got the Love ”. This is effective because as well as being lyrics from one of their songs, it suggests that Florence is an all round person who is easy to get along with. NME have also created the head-line in an graceful font, which also links back into Florence as a person, implying she is refined and stylish. 3 columns – notice text wraps around the background image of USA By allowing the text to “text wrap” around the background image, it prevents the whole page being covered in text which does not look pleasing, it wraps around the image, so that it is visible and the text does not cover it. This makes the over-all article more interesting. Copy (text) begins with A large letter Y using Drops Cap By using a drops cap, it makes it clear where the article starts. It also makes the article look more interesting as opposed to having constant stream of text, it makes it appear more elegant.
Article Number 3 ComputerWorks Magazine Amy Winehouse
Main Image The Image ComputerWorks has used to dominate the page is of the singer, Amy Winehouse. They have used this image of her because she is the feature of this article so it makes sense to have her, as opposed to another artist which would not relate. Amy’s posture of lying in bed suggests that she is a relaxed artist and she takes things as they go. She appears to be extremely laid back and doesn’t seem to mind what is going on. This also suggests that because she is quite laid back she has a friendly character around her and that she is a lovely person. Page number Title Date The ComputerWorks title and page number is included In the bottom left of the page. This is especially important because it allows the reader to know they are reading ComputerWorks and also if there was not a page number there then the reader would not be able to find the article from the contents page. Byline (credit for author and photographer) By crediting the photographer and author, it labels work as theirs. This is important because it is crediting the person/s so that people will know who wrote the article and who took the photographs. This is significant because it lets people know what their work is like and lets them know how to find future work by that person. Sub heading ComputerWorks have not used a sub-heading for this article. I believe that mainly this is because it is such a small article. Also, it is not especially needed because the main heading says it all, it lets you know who the article is on straight away and roughly where the article is based. Main heading/headline Computer works main heading simply states “Amys Ink House”. Through the use of “Ink House” it implies that the main proportion will be based on Amy’s tattoo’s. It could also suggest that it is related to where Amy works, this is because through the use of the word house. The heading has been created in an artistic style and instead of having it in simple font text, they have created the header to look as though someone has written it using ink, which again, links in with the heading. 2 text columns The article ComputerWorks used is only a short article on Amy. They have used two columns of text to write about part of Amy’s life. By creating two columns, it fills more of the page for the article, it also makes it look more appealing opposed to having a large block of text to read. Copy (text) begins with A large letter Y using Drops Cap ComputerWorks did not use a Drops cap in this article. I believe that the primary reason they did not do this is because the article is not especially big, and so a drops cap is not necessary to highlight where the article begins.
