3. Air pollution
Air pollution can be defined as the presence of chemicals or compounds in
the air which are usually not present and which lower the quality of the air
or cause harmful changes to the quality of life and deteriorates the quality
of the atmosphere. It has been one of the major catalyst of global warming
and climate change.
6. • Due to heavy industrialization and
unplanned urbanization done by us, human
beings; there has been a lot of dangerous
chemicals ejected into the environment
which have significantly increased the
greenhouse effect.
• Humans are heavily dependent upon fossil
fuels and In fact 84 percent of world
energy still comes from fossil fuels. Rapid
population growth and search for luxury
can lead to heavy usage of fossil fuels.

Causes
7. • Besides from human activities, Air
pollution can be caused via some natural
activities as well. Different natural
disasters such as Volcanic Eruption, Forest
Fire etc. They have less effects than the
pollution caused by humans
• Agriculture can lead to the usage of
various chemical fertilizers and pesticides
for the benefit of farmers. They contain
harmful chemicals and gasses which
pollute the air. Practices such as burning
weed and fodder also pollutes the air
Natural Causes Agricultural activities
Causes
8. • Greenhouse effect can be defined as the
process of heating of the earth’s surface
due to the trapped heat from the sun.
According to latest studies, It has been
concluded that the average temperature of
the earth has been increased by 0.8 oC
from 1980.
• There have been a lot of health issues
introduced to the human body due to the
air pollution such as: bronchitis, lung
cancer, irritation in the eyes, headache,
Insomnia, etc. When the AQI(Air Quality
Index) is above 200 is similar to having
more than 25 cigarettes daily.
Greenhouse Effect Human Health Issues
Effects
9. • Ozone(O3) is a natural gas found in the
atmosphere that protects living organisms
from harmful UV rays from the sun. Due to
various harmful gasses in the air, Ozone has
been observed to be decreasing at an
alarming rate each year.
• Due to climate change, various organisms
are going extinct annually. This creates an
abrupt change in the food chain of other
organisms leading to more extinction.
Plants also don’t get enough sunlight due
to the high aerosols(solids mixed in air).
Ozone layer depletion Disturbance in ecosystem
Effects
10. • We can only cope with the pollution via
knowledge. Several concepts are put
forward by geologists across the globe.
Such concepts include the famous 3 R’s
(Reduce, Reuse, Recycle). If enough people
are aware of this concept, a lot of
wastages can be avoided resulting in less
pollution overall.
• As we know, We are heavily dependent
upon fossil fuels to run our civilization.
Usage of alternative energy such as
hydroelectricity, Solar power, nuclear
energy can successfully reduce the
consumption of fossil fuels without
compromising the environment.
Awareness Alternative Energy
Prevention
11. • When people all across the globe
contribute towards the same goal, We can
achieve anything. Such efforts include
activities such as afforestation, awareness
campaigns and banning deforestation, etc.
• Through Innovation and newer technologies
along with advanced concepts, We can also
help prevent some pollution or at least
minimize it. One of such innovations is
cloud seeding. It can help in removing dust
via raining. Another is geo engineering.

15. Some predictions by scientist regarding Air pollution:
• Global Energy Crisis
• Increase Of Natural Disasters Due To Climate Change
• Increase In Air Pollution and air pollution being the reason for top most
death in few decades (7 million a year currently)
• Water level rise and possibility of coastal countries like Maldives, Sri Lanka
to be underwater.
