The Pros And Cons Of Industrial Engineering And Industrial...
Everyone needs to eat and the matter of how farmers grow the food is important for our future. As
the world progresses and becomes more and more modernized the old and the new clash and that is
what is happening with farming. In the world of farming there are many methods of growing crops,
two of them being organic and the other industrial. The two are definitely not the same and hold
different viewpoints on the methods of farming. Organic farming is more old fashioned and very
natural while on the other hand industrial farming being more modern and more synthetic. Organic
farming has more of a moral side and industrial farming has a more "get the job done" attitude.
Industrial farming uses genetically modified organisms and modern machinery with science behind
it. Organic farming still uses some modern technology such as tractors and harvesting tools.
Industrial farming is the better way of farming due to the use of genetically modified
organisms, yield of crops through industrialized farming methods, and the efficiency of industrial
farms.
Genetically modified organisms are good despite what people say about them. Genetically modified
organisms are also efficient to make according to the Fairfield–sonn who claims "Unlike relatively
slow, traditional trial–and–error crossbreeding hybridization methods within a species that have
been used for centuries, genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are created much more quickly and
precisely by a process called genetic engineering

Personal Statement For Industrial Engineering
What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your
goals" – Henry David Thoreau.
One of the first and most common questions I get bombarded with is "Why did you choose
Mechanical Engineering?" as girls taking up the course is considered quite an oddity. As a child, I
had frequently visited my uncle's plastics manufacturing company. Among everything that I saw
there, what fascinated me the most was the harmony in the synchronization of so many different sub
systems which eventually amalgamate as one, forming a complex working system. Realizing my
interest and my aptitude in physics, my mom gifted me the book 'Principles of Physics' (Halliday,
Resnick & Walker, 2010) when I was in the eleventh grade. The book opened new doors for me and
I began to really enjoy the process and techniques used in problem solving. Once the intoxication of

Essay about Operation Process at VBA
Operation process at VBA
INTRODUCTION
¡§The Design, setting up, operation, and continuous evaluation of internal and external systems that
deliver a product or a service to the customer is called Operations Management.¡¨(Alan Carroll,
2003)
According to Slack et al, All Operations processes takes in a set of input resources which are then
used to transform something, or are transformed themselves, into outputs of goods and services
which satisfy customer needs. This is described by transformation process model.
All operations manager are designers. Design in Operations management refers to the conceptual
process by which customers' needs are satisfied through the use of a product or system, which

Quality has been the primary objective in the designing of the VBA process. It is basically an error
free process. In other words it¡¦s a ¡¥world class operation¡¦. The operation is very complex and
large but is held together by information processing technology. VBA follows Self–monitoring plan,
which increases the reliability of the information regarding the quality of flowers. One of its
principle is that supplier themselves are responsible for providing reliable information. VBA staff
supports the suppliers through guidance and targeted inspection. Quality inspectors inspect on the
basis of the reliability index of the suppliers. This index is formed on the basis of past accuracy of
the information provided by the suppliers. So it detects any error that can occur regarding the quality
of flowers within the operation itself.
DEPENDABILITY– ¡¥means doing things in time for customers to receive their goods when they
were promised.¡¦
For VBA operation dependability is very critical again because of the perishable nature of flowers.
VBA staff ensures the quality and that leads to Dependability. VBA uses high level of
computerisation and automation of material that allows it to operate at high dependability levels.
VBA process ensures those flowers reach shops all around Europe on the same day and to other
parts of the world on the next day.
All these objectives are critical in the design of VBA process at present however in future

How Did The Industrial Revolution Shape The World Of...
The Industrial Revolution helped shape the world of engineering and architecture. In the past,
engineers were the only ones who designed factories; until architects began competing with them.
To start off, factories were once a new type of building that aided in the exploration of architecture.
Therefore, factories allowed architects to explore the organizational, structural, and spatial
ramifications of machines and material production. Also, factories allowed architects freedom to
expand on new ideas. Furthermore, new building materials and technology have encouraged the
emerging success of modern architecture. For example, floor to ceiling glass created lightness and
openness to buildings. Le Corbusier once said that a building is a machine for living in. Following
this, a factory is basically like a machine in the form of a building. ... Show more content on

As a result, factories have transitioned from being well–integrated urban machines to autonomous
machines housed in suburban sheds. On that note, these suburban sheds are tightly sealed, air–
conditioned and artificially lit. During World War II, factories anticipated a need for camouflage
against enemies. Thus, the factory is converted into an omnipresent generic shed. Following, this
generic shed conversion; it is separated from its more specific relationship with its product or its
site. To continue, a factory designed with a glass facade sets an iconic and remarkable impact on the
history of architecture. For example, The Fagus Factory designed by Walter Gropius is one of the
most important examples of modern architecture. For the reason that the entire facade is composed
of glass. The glass walls provide that extra natural lighting and create a sense of continuity and
openness of the interior to the exterior of the building. The expanse the glass visually removes the
separation from the interior to the

By helping workers to understand the implications of the OM design for their work and then
motivating them to act accordingly, the plant turned around its performance.
But simply acknowledging human considerations such as motivation is not enough. Consider the
case of a circuit–board plant of a large computer manufacturer that was also plagued by low
throughput.
Recognizing that worker contributions were essential, management embarked on a motivational
campaign, which included shirts, pep talks, and illuminated signs with slogans such as "I love my
job." Not only did these efforts fail to promote higher output, but also the workforce was put off by
them and became cynical about improvement efforts in general.
Eventually, the circuit–board plant adopted an alternate approach, which made use of both OM and
a more sophisticated understanding of motivation. It included training the workers to understand key
success variables of pull systems, investment in additional capacity that gave work teams more ways
to share and combine tasks, and installation of new control systems that the workforce understood.
Throughput was doubled within months; total cycle time was slashed by three–quarters in a year.
The lesson from this story is that a clear operational focus can be critical to the success of human
relations initiatives. Only when the workforce

of the powerful solution for problem solving purpose. Simulation used in the modelling and analysis
of manufacturing systems are the one of largest application areas. Simulation become increasingly
important in the two of decades previously. The benefit attribute of simulation can be divided into
two categories where quantitative benefit and qualitative benefit. Quantitative benefits classify into:
operating cost reduction, throughput time, capital costs, design–to–market time and faster
implementation of plant changes. Then, qualitative benefits also typically inclusive of reducing of
risk, deep understanding of processes, communication improvement, great team integration and
great development of skills within the organization. Simulations allow variety of problem within the
manufacturing to be consigned without the disadvantage of experimenting with a real manufacturing

versatile and varying fields of engineering. There are so many routes an individual can take with an
industrial engineering degree because the subject is applicable to so many areas, and this trait is one
of the most attractive characteristics of the major to me. What Does an Industrial Engineer Do? The
role of an industrial engineer is to maximize efficiency in systems that have workers, machines,
materials, information and energy designed to make a product or a service [1]. According to James

exhibited my problem–solving skills daily in my job at Target. As a Target employee, I am required
to help customers find items that may not be on the shelves in the back room. When I first started, it
was daunting to find these items by myself in the backroom, but by learning my way around the

Description Of A Good Friend
Dearest Good Friend,
After having taken an entire course dedicated to design, I think that I ought to pass on some of the
information I learned in the form of some oh–so–friendly advice. Although you, my good friend
who has been seriously considering going into design for some time, may already know a bit about
design, I thought it a good idea to let you know about what a few of the sources I have been reading
have to say about being a designer. Also, I wanted to let you know what these sources say in regard
to the place of designers and of designers work in the larger society. Unfortunately, I will not be able
to give you the full run down, but I have chosen the best just for you. Jumping ahead a bit to my
summary of findings, I found that designers have special responsibilities–– lot of them. They have
to think about the people with which they work, the consumers of their designs, the manufacturers
of their designs, and the nature of the material with which they work. Also, design should not be
thought of as a way in which people show mastery and control over the world. To do this is a bad
idea because it can have a negative impact on a person's morals. Now that I have given you an
overview of my findings, I will let you know more about how I came to these conclusions.
In deciding whether designers have any special responsibilities, I found the articles "A Buddhist

atmosphere of the plant. It was a treat to watch man and machine working in tandem, efficiently
rolling out state of the art engines and passenger cars. Thus, here I am, embarking on the path of
pursuing my dream by applying for the Industrial Engineering program at your esteemed university.

not related to engineering. I on the other hand privately do have job experience, but this is through a
small family business manufacturing custom window treatments. Ever since I was a young child,
many professors told me to not cite family as a credible source of job experience. I assumed this was

I am not aware of in my current knowledge that's usually seen if one had a job. I have attempted to

Now, let us note that there are 3 machines, thus giving us a total of 2,880 units. In addition, the
Boring represents a 25–reject rate, giving us 58 in units. Nevertheless, if we subtract 2,880 units
produced by all three machines from 58 units, then we will get a new total of 2,822 units.
The Drilling Capacity
The following includes, the Drilling Capacity, which has a run time of 2.5 minutes per piece.
Therefore, this produces a total of 384 units per machine, giving us a total of 960 minutes. In
addition, providing that there are a total of 6 machines, thus giving us a total of 2,304 units. Moving
forward, giving that we know that Drilling has a 75–reject rate, and thus providing us with a total of
162 units. Nevertheless, if we subtract the total amount of units produced from all 6 machines of
2,304 units with the 162 units, this will provide us with a new total of 2,142 units.
The System Capacity In order to find the capacity system, we are able to take the lowest number in
units, of course after the reject rate, which for this case is produced by the grinding with 2,128 units.
Therefore, because we are unable to produce more units due to reaching the capacity mark, or for no
more product to be allowed through in the completed cycle. Thus, the capacity system turns out to
be 2,128 units. "Capacity utilization and machine scheduling also reflect tactical

Waiting Lines and Queuing Models Essay

My interest in this application stems from my personal dislike for standing in lines and waiting on
hold while on the phone. This is virtually my only pet peeve; nothing aggravates me faster than
standing in a line or waiting on hold. Like most people I go out of my way to avoid lines, using
strategies such as arriving early or visiting during non–peak times. However, before investigating

companies to communicate with their customers. The call center industry is vast, and rapidly
expanding in terms of both workforce and economic scope. It is estimated that 3% of the U.S. and
U.K. workforce is involved with call centers. In addition the call center industry enjoys a annual
growth rate of 20% and, overall, more than half of the business transactions are conducted over the
phone. (A. Mandelbaum, 2001) In basic models of call centers it is commonly assumed that the only
parameters under the system manager's control are the number of trunks available (K + N) and the
number of agents (N). In most contexts the cost of trunk lines is trivial compared to personnel costs,
so in this paper we focus on staffing decisions (N), assuming that K = ∞ for modelling purposes.
Thus busy signals are absent in the models to be considered. The classical M/M/N queueing model,
also called the Erlang–C model, is obtained by further assuming Poisson arrivals, exponentially
distributed service times and no abandonment. It is the model most often used in call center analysis.

Persuasive Essay : Propeller Powered Car
Statement of Purpose
When I was in high school, I was called upon by my science teacher to develop and explain an
exhibit called "Propeller Powered Car", for our annual school science exhibition. I always enjoyed
science and being a good student, I was confident of the theoretical explanations. What I was
nervous about was about the interactions with other competing students, visiting friends and family
and most of all, to present the topic well and not let down my teachers and school. I practiced my
material several times and made it so that visitors could do small experiments to practically
understand concepts of Newton's Laws of Motion, acceleration and friction easily. The project
turned out to be a great success and my work was appreciated. That day, I realized that practical
knowledge can lead to an in depth understanding of concepts. I also understood that these small
experiments I designed to explain fundamental physics was in action on a much larger scale in all
sorts of industrial machinery. It's nearly a decade now since that day; my interest in machines and
how they are designed and their workings is still on an upward trajectory. I have always made an
effort to understand the mechanism of various components of machines. Seeing this, my father took
me to visit his factory; it was the first time I came across large machinery working synchronously
and systemically and on such a large scale. I scored 83.25 percent in my high school leaving exams

A Study On The Industrial Design / Engineering Program Essay
Gloria, Kenya, Wendee, and I had a chance to interview a full–time faculty, Shelley Takahashi, at
Mount San Antonio Community College. She has been working at this community college for
almost two full years teaching Industrial Design/Engineering. She shared that she is motivated to be
on a college campus everyday as she interacts with students and see them grow in the field of
industrial design. One interesting thing about her industrial design/engineering program is that it is a
cohort model where students take the same classes throughout their time at the community college.
She mentioned how rewarding it is to see students grow and mature together in the span of two
years and see them get full–time positions or transfer to four year universities after they finish the
program. She stated that her major roles and responsibilities as a faculty member is to teach classes,
participate in the Advisory Committee meetings to assess ways to improve the program, reach out to
local high schools to recruit students, and connect with different universities for articulation. She
also shared some of the workshops that she put together for students as she invited counselors from
her department to come to class to help students to write their resumes, practice interview skills, and
share internship opportunities in the field of industrial design. What shocked me during the
interview was when she told us that she was not too familiar with the roles of the student affairs; she

The Pros And Cons Of Industrial Engineering And Industrial...

  • 1. The Pros And Cons Of Industrial Engineering And Industrial... Everyone needs to eat and the matter of how farmers grow the food is important for our future. As the world progresses and becomes more and more modernized the old and the new clash and that is what is happening with farming. In the world of farming there are many methods of growing crops, two of them being organic and the other industrial. The two are definitely not the same and hold different viewpoints on the methods of farming. Organic farming is more old fashioned and very natural while on the other hand industrial farming being more modern and more synthetic. Organic farming has more of a moral side and industrial farming has a more "get the job done" attitude. Industrial farming uses genetically modified organisms and modern machinery with science behind it. Organic farming still uses some modern technology such as tractors and harvesting tools. Industrial farming is the better way of farming due to the use of genetically modified organisms, yield of crops through industrialized farming methods, and the efficiency of industrial farms. Genetically modified organisms are good despite what people say about them. Genetically modified organisms are also efficient to make according to the Fairfield–sonn who claims "Unlike relatively slow, traditional trial–and–error crossbreeding hybridization methods within a species that have been used for centuries, genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are created much more quickly and precisely by a process called genetic engineering ... • 15. Personal Statement For Industrial Engineering What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals" – Henry David Thoreau. One of the first and most common questions I get bombarded with is "Why did you choose Mechanical Engineering?" as girls taking up the course is considered quite an oddity. As a child, I had frequently visited my uncle's plastics manufacturing company. Among everything that I saw there, what fascinated me the most was the harmony in the synchronization of so many different sub systems which eventually amalgamate as one, forming a complex working system. Realizing my interest and my aptitude in physics, my mom gifted me the book 'Principles of Physics' (Halliday, Resnick & Walker, 2010) when I was in the eleventh grade. The book opened new doors for me and I began to really enjoy the process and techniques used in problem solving. Once the intoxication of the pleasure of reaching a solution for a problem after ... Essay about Operation Process at VBA Operation process at VBA INTRODUCTION ¡§The Design, setting up, operation, and continuous evaluation of internal and external systems that deliver a product or a service to the customer is called Operations Management.¡¨(Alan Carroll, 2003) According to Slack et al, All Operations processes takes in a set of input resources which are then used to transform something, or are transformed themselves, into outputs of goods and services which satisfy customer needs. This is described by transformation process model. All operations manager are designers. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Quality has been the primary objective in the designing of the VBA process. It is basically an error free process. In other words it¡¦s a ¡¥world class operation¡¦. The operation is very complex and large but is held together by information processing technology. VBA follows Self–monitoring plan, which increases the reliability of the information regarding the quality of flowers. One of its principle is that supplier themselves are responsible for providing reliable information. VBA staff supports the suppliers through guidance and targeted inspection. Quality inspectors inspect on the basis of the reliability index of the suppliers. This index is formed on the basis of past accuracy of the information provided by the suppliers. So it detects any error that can occur regarding the quality of flowers within the operation itself. DEPENDABILITY– ¡¥means doing things in time for customers to receive their goods when they were promised.¡¦ For VBA operation dependability is very critical again because of the perishable nature of flowers. VBA staff ensures the quality and that leads to Dependability. VBA uses high level of computerisation and automation of material that allows it to operate at high dependability levels. VBA process ensures those flowers reach shops all around Europe on the same day and to other parts of the world on the next day. • 21. How Did The Industrial Revolution Shape The World Of... The Industrial Revolution helped shape the world of engineering and architecture. In the past, engineers were the only ones who designed factories; until architects began competing with them. To start off, factories were once a new type of building that aided in the exploration of architecture. Therefore, factories allowed architects to explore the organizational, structural, and spatial ramifications of machines and material production. Also, factories allowed architects freedom to expand on new ideas. Furthermore, new building materials and technology have encouraged the emerging success of modern architecture. For example, floor to ceiling glass created lightness and openness to buildings. Le Corbusier once said that a building is a machine for living in. Following this, a factory is basically like a machine in the form of a building. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a result, factories have transitioned from being well–integrated urban machines to autonomous machines housed in suburban sheds. On that note, these suburban sheds are tightly sealed, air– conditioned and artificially lit. During World War II, factories anticipated a need for camouflage against enemies. Thus, the factory is converted into an omnipresent generic shed. Following, this generic shed conversion; it is separated from its more specific relationship with its product or its site. To continue, a factory designed with a glass facade sets an iconic and remarkable impact on the history of architecture. For example, The Fagus Factory designed by Walter Gropius is one of the most important examples of modern architecture. For the reason that the entire facade is composed of glass. The glass walls provide that extra natural lighting and create a sense of continuity and openness of the interior to the exterior of the building. But simply acknowledging human considerations such as motivation is not enough. Consider the case of a circuit–board plant of a large computer manufacturer that was also plagued by low throughput. Recognizing that worker contributions were essential, management embarked on a motivational campaign, which included shirts, pep talks, and illuminated signs with slogans such as "I love my job." Not only did these efforts fail to promote higher output, but also the workforce was put off by them and became cynical about improvement efforts in general. Eventually, the circuit–board plant adopted an alternate approach, which made use of both OM and a more sophisticated understanding of motivation. It included training the workers to understand key success variables of pull systems, investment in additional capacity that gave work teams more ways to share and combine tasks, and installation of new control systems that the workforce understood. Throughput was doubled within months; total cycle time was slashed by three–quarters in a year. The lesson from this story is that a clear operational focus can be critical to the success of human relations initiatives. Only when the workforce ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are so many routes an individual can take with an industrial engineering degree because the subject is applicable to so many areas, and this trait is one of the most attractive characteristics of the major to me. What Does an Industrial Engineer Do? The role of an industrial engineer is to maximize efficiency in systems that have workers, machines, materials, information and energy designed to make a product or a service [1]. According to James Shields, an industrial engineer who works for FedEx Ground, essentially, it is the responsibility of an industrial engineer to understand a system and to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Industrial engineers need to think differently from others and need to be creative thinkers. I have exhibited my problem–solving skills daily in my job at Target. As a Target employee, I am required to help customers find items that may not be on the shelves in the back room. When I first started, it was daunting to find these items by myself in the backroom, but by learning my way around the back room and asking for help, I could help customers on my own. I used my resources to have a better understanding of the situation and solved my way through the problem. To be any type of engineer, you need to think critically and problem solve. There will be times in my career in which I need to complete a difficult project and I need to use my problem–solving skills to complete the task. I have already gained and practiced problem solving, so I will be better prepared for the future as an industrial engineer. My public speaking skills are apparent in the many presentations I have led, such as with a program called Junior Achievements (JA). The point of JA is to create a product and sell it to customers. As the head of the Sales Department, I needed to demonstrate to others how to successfully talk about our product and to sell it to others. By teaching others how to properly speak to others, I was practicing and honing my own speaking ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 58. Description Of A Good Friend Dearest Good Friend, After having taken an entire course dedicated to design, I think that I ought to pass on some of the information I learned in the form of some oh–so–friendly advice. Although you, my good friend who has been seriously considering going into design for some time, may already know a bit about design, I thought it a good idea to let you know about what a few of the sources I have been reading have to say about being a designer. Also, I wanted to let you know what these sources say in regard to the place of designers and of designers work in the larger society. Unfortunately, I will not be able to give you the full run down, but I have chosen the best just for you. Jumping ahead a bit to my summary of findings, I found that designers have special responsibilities–– lot of them. They have to think about the people with which they work, the consumers of their designs, the manufacturers of their designs, and the nature of the material with which they work. Also, design should not be thought of as a way in which people show mastery and control over the world. To do this is a bad idea because it can have a negative impact on a person's morals. Now that I have given you an overview of my findings, I will let you know more about how I came to these conclusions. In deciding whether designers have any special responsibilities, I found the articles "A Buddhist Perspective on Industrial Engineering and the Design of Work" by Wei–Tau Lee, James A. Blumenthal, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 62. Job Experience At College Graduates Obtaining a job in today's society may seem difficult due to the ever increasing population of college graduates promoting a healthy dose of competition, yet it will come naturally if one has prior experience before obtaining a full–time job. In my current stage of being a senior without any job experience before graduating will prove to be tough to find a company willing to hire someone as such. Almost all of my friends have some sort of job experience both in either industry or in jobs not related to engineering. I on the other hand privately do have job experience, but this is through a small family business manufacturing custom window treatments. Ever since I was a young child, many professors told me to not cite family as a credible source of job experience. I assumed this was said in order to prevent those that simply place inane job titles on their resume when they in fact worked or observed only five minutes of the job. My job was to assist my father in the manufacturing of curtains, pillows and roman shades; occasionally installing the drapes in the client's home with the profits going towards the family. Money going towards my family's funds has led to me not have to file any taxes and "whatnot". Where "whatnot" is the miscellaneous papers that I am not aware of in my current knowledge that's usually seen if one had a job. I have attempted to place my work experience onto my resume as the section labeled "work experience" is left blank, but the starting date looked ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nevertheless, if we subtract 2,880 units produced by all three machines from 58 units, then we will get a new total of 2,822 units. The Drilling Capacity The following includes, the Drilling Capacity, which has a run time of 2.5 minutes per piece. Therefore, this produces a total of 384 units per machine, giving us a total of 960 minutes. In addition, providing that there are a total of 6 machines, thus giving us a total of 2,304 units. Moving forward, giving that we know that Drilling has a 75–reject rate, and thus providing us with a total of 162 units. Nevertheless, if we subtract the total amount of units produced from all 6 machines of 2,304 units with the 162 units, this will provide us with a new total of 2,142 units. The System Capacity In order to find the capacity system, we are able to take the lowest number in units, of course after the reject rate, which for this case is produced by the grinding with 2,128 units. Therefore, because we are unable to produce more units due to reaching the capacity mark, or for no more product to be allowed through in the completed cycle. Thus, the capacity system turns out to be 2,128 units. "Capacity utilization and machine scheduling also reflect tactical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 70. Waiting Lines and Queuing Models Essay Waiting Lines & Queuing Models American Military University Business 312 For my project on other operations research techniques I have decided to research waiting lines and queuing models. My interest in this application stems from my personal dislike for standing in lines and waiting on hold while on the phone. This is virtually my only pet peeve; nothing aggravates me faster than standing in a line or waiting on hold. Like most people I go out of my way to avoid lines, using strategies such as arriving early or visiting during non–peak times. However, before investigating this topic, I had no idea there was a specific science behind the madness. Queuing models are important applications for predicting congestion in a ... Call centers are the preferred way for many companies to communicate with their customers. The call center industry is vast, and rapidly expanding in terms of both workforce and economic scope. It is estimated that 3% of the U.S. and U.K. workforce is involved with call centers. In addition the call center industry enjoys a annual growth rate of 20% and, overall, more than half of the business transactions are conducted over the phone. (A. Mandelbaum, 2001) In basic models of call centers it is commonly assumed that the only parameters under the system manager's control are the number of trunks available (K + N) and the number of agents (N). In most contexts the cost of trunk lines is trivial compared to personnel costs, so in this paper we focus on staffing decisions (N), assuming that K = ∞ for modelling purposes. Thus busy signals are absent in the models to be considered. The classical M/M/N queueing model, also called the Erlang–C model, is obtained by further assuming Poisson arrivals, exponentially distributed service times and no abandonment. It is the model most often used in call center analysis. (O. Garnett, 2002) In probability theory, a Poisson process is a stochastic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 72. Persuasive Essay : Propeller Powered Car Statement of Purpose When I was in high school, I was called upon by my science teacher to develop and explain an exhibit called "Propeller Powered Car", for our annual school science exhibition. I always enjoyed science and being a good student, I was confident of the theoretical explanations. What I was nervous about was about the interactions with other competing students, visiting friends and family and most of all, to present the topic well and not let down my teachers and school. I practiced my material several times and made it so that visitors could do small experiments to practically understand concepts of Newton's Laws of Motion, acceleration and friction easily. The project turned out to be a great success and my work was appreciated. That day, I realized that practical knowledge can lead to an in depth understanding of concepts. I also understood that these small experiments I designed to explain fundamental physics was in action on a much larger scale in all sorts of industrial machinery. It's nearly a decade now since that day; my interest in machines and how they are designed and their workings is still on an upward trajectory. I have always made an effort to understand the mechanism of various components of machines. Seeing this, my father took me to visit his factory; it was the first time I came across large machinery working synchronously and systemically and on such a large scale. I scored 83.25 percent in my high school leaving exams and knew that I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 76. A Study On The Industrial Design / Engineering Program Essay Gloria, Kenya, Wendee, and I had a chance to interview a full–time faculty, Shelley Takahashi, at Mount San Antonio Community College. She has been working at this community college for almost two full years teaching Industrial Design/Engineering. She shared that she is motivated to be on a college campus everyday as she interacts with students and see them grow in the field of industrial design. One interesting thing about her industrial design/engineering program is that it is a cohort model where students take the same classes throughout their time at the community college. She mentioned how rewarding it is to see students grow and mature together in the span of two years and see them get full–time positions or transfer to four year universities after they finish the program. She stated that her major roles and responsibilities as a faculty member is to teach classes, participate in the Advisory Committee meetings to assess ways to improve the program, reach out to local high schools to recruit students, and connect with different universities for articulation. She also shared some of the workshops that she put together for students as she invited counselors from her department to come to class to help students to write their resumes, practice interview skills, and share internship opportunities in the field of industrial design. What shocked me during the interview was when she told us that she was not too familiar with the roles of the student affairs; she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rotation 1 Having accepted an offer less than two weeks after receiving word that Gulfstream was actively seeking engineering co–ops, I jumped head first into the opportunity. Not only was I the second ever co–op to the department, I was also the first industrial engineer. For these reasons, and starting only one rotation after the first co–op, nearly everything had to be developed from scratch. From team organizational structure to day to day tasks and end of rotation deliverables, everything was brand new. In fact, this was one of the things that drove me to the position; a well–established program expanding to include a new and exciting department. At the start of my first rotation, Fall 2013, I was placed in the product support organization within a manufacturing engineering team. "Gulfstream operates the largest factory–owned service network in the business aviation industry. The support system is anchored by 11 service centers located on four continents, including the world's largest purpose–built business aircraft maintenance facility, which is in Savannah [1]". The facility in question holds multiple hangars for each model aircraft in addition to three floors of offices and cubicles. It is here that I found myself in the first rotation of work. The PSME team with which I worked consisted of two full time employees, now labeled manufacturing engineers, who had worked their way up from the shop floor, and a handful of contract employees, all of whom ...
