Revenue was distributed globally with the United States, Europe and the rest of the world
accounting for 67%, 27%, and 6% of total FY2005 revenue, respectively. Over 95% of Wipro
employees had degrees in science or engineering prior to joining the company. While the company
was an outsourced provider of software services it worked on projects both onsite (at a customer's
location) and offshore (at Wipro facilities primarily in India). In 2005, the company completed
approximately 75% of its work offshore and 25% onsite. Both cost pressure (work done offshore
was relatively cheaper) and a shortage of work visas (particularly in the United States) were pushing
Wipro to complete more work offshore. Wipro billed for its projects using one of two approaches.
Its initial approach, known as time and materials (T&M), involved billing a client at a pre–specified
rate for the actual number of hours that its software engineers worked on the project plus the cost of
any software or tools required. In the newer approach, known as a fixed price project (FPP), Wipro
quoted its customer a guaranteed price for the work and then was responsible for delivering the final
product. Any effort overages on a FPP were the responsibility of Wipro. In 2005, the company's
revenues were split approximately 80/20 between T&M and FPP, respectively. The percentage of
FPP was growing as clients were becoming more comfortable with outsourced

Introduction ?As global healthcare expenditure soars, and as systems are increasingly required to
deliver better care to more people using less resource, the challenge to explore the promises of lean
thinking is compelling? (Young and McClean, 2009 p309). In the UK the government has set
deadlines for Accident and Emergency (A&E) patients to be dealt with (Boseley, 2015). The
hospitals are facing challenges for this deadline. In this context the implementation of lean can
enable hospitals improve their efficiencies whiles at the same time reducing cost. This dissertation
looks into the opportunities and challenges of implementing lean within the healthcare sector. 1.1

Lean On Lean Software Development
Lean Summary Lean Software Development (LSD) is an implementation of Lean Principles in
software development. In sum, every action that does not produce value is considered waste (muda)
(Liker, 2005). The goal is to create a system (software development or otherwise) that is waste free.
"Several Agile techniques can be used to achieve this in software development, making LSD and
Agile similar at first glance (Austad, 2011)". Origin/History It is important to note the history of
Lean and the history of Lean Software development (LSD) are two different histories. Lean and
LSD are related but their histories are different. This history will focus on LSD. The term lean
software development originated in a book written by Mary Poppendieck and ... Show more content

Empower the Team – In a traditional work environment, decisions are made from the top down. In a
LSD, it works in reverse of that. "The lean approach favors the aphorism 'find good people and let
them do their own job,' encouraging progress, catching errors, and removing impediments, but not
micro–managing (Liker, 2005)." Defer Commitment – By deferring critical/irreversible, you keep
your options open for as long as possible (Liker, 2005). Pros/Cons Pros o Delivering the product
early means that the development team can deliver more functionality in a shorter period of time,
hence enabling more projects to be delivered. o Empowerment of the development team helps in
developing the decision making ability of the team members which in turn creates more motivation
among team members ( 'Top 12 Software Development Methodologies And Its
Advantages/Disadvantages ', 2014). Cons o Lean does not do very well in small dev teams where
the projects are small and unpredictable (job shop and/or lots of support). o " The project sponsors
and clients need to know what they want and make decisions they will stick to. In lean software
development these decisions can be made later. But the problem is that project sponsors tend to be
paralyzed by fear when it comes to making the tough decisions. And in lean the whole objective of
using this over say agile methodology is to enable your development to be done faster and

Total Cost Minimization : The Development Of The Assembly...
Total Cost Minimization
The development of the assembly line has greatly impacted the way in which products are
manufactured for the masses today. The innovation of the assembly line reduced the cost required to
make products which opened the market of luxury items, such as cars and kitchen appliances, to the
middle class. The first assembly line designed for large scale manufacturing was developed by
Henry Ford in 1913. Ford desired a method to produce a large quantity of the Model T car at a
minimal cost. Ford achieved this method by standardizing the parts required to make the car,
simplifying large tasks into smaller ones and increasing the demands of manual labour. Ford's
assembly line provided other car manufacturing companies with ... Show more content on

Automation enables parts to be manufactured at a rapid pace; however these newly developed
machines are able to assess if there is a defect in the part or in the machine itself and are
programmed stop immediately to prevent manufacturing defected products. Primarily, human
automation minimizes the cost of production as it reduces the number of workers necessary to
ensure a quality product. Workers can be less vigilant while monitoring the machines as the
machines have sensors that indicate if there is a problem that needs to be addressed. As a result, one
worker can monitor several machines which reduces the cost associated with worker's wages.
Secondly, this type of automation reduces the total cost as it minimizes the amount of defected
products that are manufactured. Dr. Anil Mital from the Industrial Engineering Department at the
University of Cincinnati comments, "it is essential to integrate inspection into automated
manufacturing in order to provide the necessary feedback which could be used to fine tune the
automated manufacturing system" (119). This insight demonstrates the importance of manufacturing
quality products the first time to reduce costs. Inspection prevents the mass production of defected
products which eliminates the costs needed to repair the unusable parts. Therefore, the development
of human automation allows for total cost minimization in the manufacturing process as it reduces

The Effect Of Lean Production On A Process Plant Essay
REVIEW OF
"THE USE OF LEAN PRODUCTION IN A PROCESS PLANT"
HARRY DEBOLE
Griffith School of Engineering, Griffith University, Gold Coast, QLD4222, Australia
This paper presents a review of the use of Lean Production in a process plant. It defines lean
production as a process putting into consideration the history and the reason it was formulated. It
also considers the application, benefits and the barriers to the effective maximization of the process.
Keywords: Lean Production, Process plant, Definition, Applications, Benefits, Conclusion
1. Definition
Any activity in a process, which does not add value to the customer, is called 'waste'. Sometimes the
waste is a necessary part of the process and adds value to the company and this cannot be
eliminated, e.g., financial controls.
Lean production is based on the principles and working processes of the Toyota Production System
(TPS), and has been defined as doing more with less. In its simplest terms, lean production can be
described as the elimination of waste. It has been most prominent in discrete, repetitive assembly–
type operations. Liker suggests that the goals of lean production are highest quality, lowest cost, and
shortest lead–time. Lean production can be considered as a philosophy and as a set of tools and
practices for the continuous improvement of operations.
2. Brief History of Lean Production
In order to understand lean production system, it is important to understand it in its historical
perspective first.

The Opening Sequences of David Lean and Alfonso Cuaron's Film Version of Great Expectations
In this media assignment I shall be analyzing and comparing the similarities and differences of two
famous directors' film versions of 'Great Expectations'. The two directors are David Lean and
Alfonso Cuaron. David Lean's version was more popular and well known than Alfonso Cuaron's
because Lean was the first director to actually direct 'Great Expectations'. This made it more
difficult for Alfonso Cuaron because he had to bring the film up to date by making the film more
modern and there have also been 10 other films based on the novel 'Great Expectations'. David Lean
had directed his version of 'Great ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is revealing to the audience that the film fits into the horror genre and is giving the audience
clues about what the film will include, such as an ominous atmosphere and scenes of violence and
gore. Lean has created this mood and theme so that the audience would want to know what the film
actually contains, whether it is horror or drama.
David Lean and Alfonso Cuaron are using the different techniques to keep the audience interested in
the movie. The soundtrack of both versions is different because Alfonso Cuaron has played music
throughout his opening frames. He has introduced sound effects such as waves that give the
audience a pleasant sound to their ears; this same effect is employed with seagulls. The music that is
actually played has a joyful and happy mood, which encourages the audience to think that the film is
a non–violent film. But when Magwitch appears from underneath the water in the tenth frame and
grabs Pip, at this point the music changes from joyful and happy to dramatic and shocking. Cuaron
deliberately did this to shock and alarm the audience from a happy and cheerful atmosphere to an
explicit and up–tempo atmosphere, this technique also keeps you interested in the film.
On the other hand David Lean has only played music in his opening

Abstract
Lean Six Sigma is a methodology that creates processes within an organization to cut waste and
improve the company's performance. However, studies have shown that over the past decade
applying Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma can create problems for companies financially and
potential problems for employees. Companies should take great care before implementing a Lean
Six Sigma solution because in some instances, going lean can do more harm than good both
financially for the organization as well as destroying employee loyalty and moral. The Effect of

Occasionally, even the successes are not wholly attributed to the Lean Six Sigma process. The
question currently being asked, are United States companies doing poorly with lean and is lean
faltering? Studies over the past 10 years have shown that United States companies are not only
doing poorly, but that they have become worse over the past five to seven years (Schonberger, 2007,
p.22). Lean Manufacturing was a brilliant idea that achieved great success with car manufacturers
like Toyota. However, these practices have actually hurt many organizations when companies
attempt to apply them internally to certain practices. Too many companies have attempted to correct
problems internally using certain lean methods that should only be applied to manufacturing.
Companies have applied the Lean Six Sigma approach to cut waste within the organization by
reducing raw materials, work–in–progress and finished goods inventory. Companies have also
streamlined their own employees reducing headcount and hiring or retraining remaining staff that
can perform many tasks instead of specific jobs. In–fact, organizations that have applied Lean Six
Sigma and Lean Manufacturing internally are still seeing losses. Companies have neglected to look
externally for waste instead of constantly focusing on internal processes and problems. Creating
these reductions, companies are actually seeing two to 10 times more lead–time externally than
internally (Schonberger, 2007, p.

LEAN IN PRODUCTION AND SERVICE The word term ''LEAN'' was put together to describe
and personalize Toyota's business activity during the 1980's by a research team headed by one Jim
Womack, Ph.D., at MIT's international Motor vehicle programme. According to them, the concept
of 'LEAN' was fathered by Taiichi Ohno of Toyota. Ohno developed a contrasting approach to the
mass production methods of US car firms through necessity. Later, in 1996, Jim Womack's team
espoused the five lean principles and also lean tools that they believed were the secret for Toyota's
success. According to Oxford dictionaries, Lean means efficient and with no wastage. The core idea
of lean is to minimize wastage and at the same time maximize customer value. ... Show more

If we are able to answer the key questions that I have associated with each of the aspects, I believe
that we can develop a vision for lean implementation in our organization. The questions would be:–
1. purpose what are the customer problems will the organization try to solve in order to achieve their
own purpose of prospering? 2. Process: how will the organization assess each major value stream
devised to make sure each step in the value stream is valuable, capable, available, adequate and
flexible? 3. People: how will the organization ensure that every important process in the value
stream has someone responsible for continually evaluating it in terms of business purpose and also
lean process? How will everyone involved in the value stream be engaged actively in the process of
operating it correctly and continually improving it? As for the next step that I would take, it would
be on the possible implementation of the core lean principle into my organization. This, I believe
would involve the core of lean which is basically waste reduction. Usually, in an organization
including production and service oriented organizations, we can find seven basic types of waste,
which I am listing below. ❖ Producing goods and services beyond the immediate need of the
customers. ❖ Unnecessary movement of products due to poor layout planning. ❖ Wasted motions
when working. ❖ Time idling and wastage. ❖ Implementing processes that are unimportant to

like to point out here that Toyota's priority has traditionally been the following: First, Safety;
Second, Quality and Third, Volume. These priorities became confused, and we were not able to stop,

Lean Production Is A Benefit For Selling Products
Lean Production In short, lean production is essentially about receiving more from less. The point of
this idea is to lessen the amount of assets or quantity, so the main focus can be utilized as a benefit
for selling products and furthering assistance to customers. All while in sync, it is about making the
association of the business or supply chain more productive, vaulable and more importantly
effective. Lean production can be characterized from various perspectives, however the most
mainstream is the "elimination of all waste and continuous improvement of productivity." (Arnold,
Chapman, 2012, p.340) Waste means something besides the base measure of hardware, parts, space,
material, creation time and laborers ' time which make it completely important to increase the value
of the item. Lean production is built on various effective ideas such as continuous improvement,
organizing the business, and just–in–time production, which makes lean production so effective in
supply chains. Lean production includes wiping out what might be wasteful and hence utilizing less
energy, supplys, capacity and time. In return, this lessens costs and helps companies, such as supply
chains, excel in business. The three basic values of supply chains are simplicity, consistency and
responsibility. Lean production ties in quite well with these qualities. For instance, supply chain
stores are basic in outline and all stores are fundamentally the same which makes them consistent,

Brief Encounter Essay
Is Brief Encounter best understood as a sober realist drama or as an imaginary love affair?
Brief Encounter (1945), according to Dyer Richard's words (1993, p.9), is a 'lovely film', but also
'pretty much a good one too'. It indicates that this film conveys many symbolic meanings, such as
how people struggle in forbidden love, but represents the reality as well, like women are vulnerable
in a relationship. In this essay, it will be claimed from three aspects to prove the film is best
understood as a sober realist drama. The first is about social realism, including pre–war nostalgia
and low social position of women. Then it moves to the storyline, in order to show the logic of the
narrative structure of this film. The last point is about the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

sincerity' (in Lant, A., 1991, p.163). The content cannot simply be dismissed as fantasy to illustrate
the fact that David Lean let the audiences pay more attention to women's situation and the trauma
that war has made. From the thesis claimed above, Brief Encounter contributes most value to social

Persuasive Essay On Manifest Destiny
America is the home of the brave and land of the free. It's the continent known for the start of new
beginnings, and renewal of life. You are free to believe what you want, love who you wish, and be
you think you are designed to be. Although America may have many benefits that most countries
and continents don't, it came at a price. America had to fight her way to the top, and every
constitutional right was earned by the endurance and victories it took to make them possible. From a
fledgling nation that didn't have much hope to one that had the courage to proclaim Manifest
Destiny America definitely earned everything it has to offer.
From the beginning America has been a sort of safe haven. From when the pilgrims first decided to
cross the Atlantic, due to the dysfunctions of England. At the time England was very unfair to most
of its people. By not letting one rank up higher if the where at a lower class, or only letting the
eldest of the family inherit any land that the parents owned, leaving nothing to offer their other
children. But the biggest reason was that the Church of England wouldn't allow its people to
worship God the way the people felt was correct. So therefore they made the decision to cross over
to America where they would be free to start over again and worship God freely and how they felt
was the accurate and correct way to do so.
Although crossing over to America was the only option the pilgrims had if they wished to start anew
there would be risks that came with it. The risk of leaving their homes behind knowing that
returning wasn't exactly an option. Along with the fact that they didn't have an exact idea of where
they were going or where they would end up. They basically risked their lives just to be able to
worship God freely and for their families to not have to dwell under England's unfair rulings.
After crossing the relentless Atlantic with the tragic fact that some of their people were lost along
the way, they officially made it to America. They arrived in the land that was going to be the start of
their new lives, but it resulted in more than half of their population dead within the first few weeks
of winter. Even though they faced many difficulties they still

The article first appeared in the "International Journal of Human Resource Development &

Introduction
From the founding of Toyoda Loom Works in the 1920s to the creation of Toyota Motor Co. in the
1940s, its leaders believed that the key to success was investment in its people (Liker, 2004).

This example reveals that Toyota is far from perfect and experiences serious problems and gives
insights into how Toyota responds to problems by getting to the root cause. The paper concludes
with a discussion of some of the cultural issues that affect the ability to create a Toyota–like HR
system in America.
What is the Role of HR in a Lean Enterprise?
The concept of "lean production" was first introduced in The Machine that Changed the World
(Womack et al., 1991) to refer to a new way of looking at the manufacturing enterprise. It was
distinguished from mass production by its single–minded focus on eliminating waste in all aspects
of the enterprise.
An enterprise exists to add value to customers through a series of activities that transform inputs into
outputs and anything other than the minimum needed to perform that value–added function is waste.
Toyota was the original model for lean and the concept of "just–in–time" epitomized the focus on
waste elimination –– only make exactly what is needed, in the amount needed, when it is needed.
In fact the just–in–time principle is one aspect of a broader philosophy represented by the Toyota
production system. In TPS, the just–in–time concept is one pillar and the other is to build in quality
at every step of the process, not allowing defects to propagate through the value stream. The

Although the firm has been working on maximum efficiency, Tom Mathis has come up with a better
solution to solve the problem. He plans to cut costs by purchasing supplies from overseas sellers.
Mr. Mathis knew that this strategy would have increased the cost and time of delivery. The factory
buyers should also take the time to investigate any potential new vendors. So he is using information
technology to implement the program and to improve the process of inventory restocking.
(Larenernest, 2010) However, workers have been so accustomed to the Kanban system that it is
difficult for them to change the system, so there is a high resistance to change among the business.
In addition, it is well–known that Microsoft managed to reduce inventory levels and increase
production rates without significant investment in information technology. They settled with the
traditional method of trying to adopt new methods and many operating firms were deliberately
separated from the technology because the first thing the experts tell Kanban factory to do is to
disconnect the Material Requirements Planning System (MRP). MRP is a system used to manage
manufacturing processes in terms of production planning, scheduling, and inventory control. This
causes another problem for Mr. Mathis since the firm does not have the internal resources needed to
support the system that he wants to employ. (Carr, 2005)

Goliath: Giant among Men
Have you ever wondered if being considered an underdog is a good or a bad thing? Consider the
underdogs in the history of the world and one thing is always at the front of our minds. How can
these individuals go against the odds? Where they overlook and nobody had the true facts to
accurately depict the end result? In one of the most popular underdog stories of all time is the story
of David who took on the giant Goliath. Malcolm Gladwell in a well presented TED talk given
September of 2013, gives us a more intellectual approach on how this battle should have been
anticipated and will help answer the question if the underdogs are in fact just overlooked as
contenders.
First to gain a deeper understanding about why this topic is of importance to Gladwell it goes back
to his past. He was a born in Great Britain but while still young his family moved to Canada where
his father had gotten a job teaching at the Collage of Waterloo. Now this is where his story might
differ from a lot of normal childhoods. Having access to many books Gladwell took to reading and
running distance to fill his time. As successful as you could say he was with reading and running his
collage years were a lot tougher. He was rejected from graduate school and from many jobs. Finally
receiving a job, he worked his way to writing for the newspaper The New Yorker. Having great

As Samuel grew in age he intended to appoint one of his sons as the king of Israel. His sons

How Lean's Helps A Sustainable Print Company
How Lean Methodology Leads to a Sustainable Print Company
Continual improvement is a goal for all print companies looking for future success. To become a
sustainable company one needs to cut unnecessary costs and waste generated by doing business.
Removing cost and waste may seem like simple things to do but finding the necessary changes and
implementing these changes requires time and effort. A method used to accomplish this goal is lean
manufacturing.
Lean manufacturing is a continuous improvement practice that focuses on waste reduction. Waste in
its simplest form is anything that is excessive and consumes resources. It can also be referred to as
non–value–added activities that do not add value to the end product (Rizzo, 2008, 58). Sustainability
on the other hand recognizes a print company's capability to satisfy the 3 dimensions: people, profit
and environment (Wirtenberg, 2013). These three dimensions are referred to as the triple bottom line
(TBL). Even when a business is making a profit, anything that does not create value for customers,
fulfill employees' needs, and benefit the environment is wasteful and must be restructured to
eliminate non–value–added activities (Wandiga, 2013).This is the philosophy of lean manufacturing;
a beneficial concept that can help reduce the amount of wasted resources in a company and
contribute to its sustainability.
Knowing the theories behind lean and sustainability is not enough, print companies need to know

Palm 150 Praisess: The Book Of Psalm
The Book of Psalms is a collection of 150 Praises. It is believed the collection was written over a
span of time, possibly from 586 BC and earlier. The Psalms were originally written as songs. About
half of these were actually written by David. The Psalms are broken up into five sections and Psalm
123 and Psalm 124 are from the last section dealing with captivity. Psalm 123 focuses on lifting our
eyes to the Lord who is on Heaven's throne, and seeking His mercy. Our yearning for God is similar
to the way a slave looks to the hand of its master. We seek God's mercy as we endure ridicule and
contempt from others because of our Christian faith. Psalm 124 focuses on the fact that God can
help people overcome all adversaries.(Kranz). Even those who appear to be stronger and better. This

David isn't clear about what he is writing about, but he was clearly moved by the event. We see this
in the first two lines where David felt he had to repeat himself by saying "if it had not been the Lord
who was on our side". It's as if he can't bare to think of what might have become of them. Some feel
he wrote it when he was fighting the Philistines. The Philistines were a powerful people but David
overcame them and he attributes his victory to God protecting and helping them win. He clearly
feels they escaped certain death. David's use of such strong words like raging, engulfed and torrent
shows how afraid he was. God brought them through this great danger and they owe it all to God.
Without the lord on the side of Israel. They would have been destroyed by the danger they faced He
compares himself to a bird in a cage and how fragile and helpless we are against danger and evil.
David is more than grateful and willing to give God the glory and not himself. Life is full of
challenges and dangers. Many of these challenges are so great that God and God alone can get us
through. All praise of safety should be given to

Implementing lean six sigma for process improvement Essay
IMPLEMENTING LEAN SIX SIGMA FOR PROCESS IMPROVEMENT
ILI MARINI BT ZAINAL ABIDIN
1. ABSTRACT
Lean Six Sigma approach is recognized widely and has been implemented predominately in
manufacturing rather than other industries. To illustrate the point, this paper draws attention to the
adoption of Lean Six Sigma in various industries with a case study. The combination of Lean tools
and Six Sigma methodology is used to improve the process and quality by eliminating the variations
and creating workflow in a process. The hypothesis of this study was that the Six Sigma technique
can be used along with lean tools in order to improve process and quality in any area of industries.
The review of case study discovered the use of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to achieve the goals, there are several tools and methods have been introduced in lean
production. The tools and methods are including:

Visual controls
Facilities layout
Pull production (also described as kanban or just–in–time)
Single minute exchange of dies (SMED)
Total productive maintenance
Source inspection
Continuous improvement (also known as kaizen)
3.2 Six Sigma
The concept of Six Sigma was developed in the early 1980's at Motorola Corporation (Harry and
Schroeder, 2000). Six Sigma can be defined as a statistical measure of the performance of a process
or product (Kumi et. al., 2006). It is used as a quality control mechanism, which seeks to reduce
defects or variations in a process to 3.4 per million opportunities thereby optimizing output and
increasing customer satisfaction (Sambhe, 2012). Sigma is representing the standard deviation, a
unit of measurement that designates the distribution or spread about the mean of a process (Six
Sigma Academy, 2002). In addition, the Six Sigma uniquely driven by close understanding of
customer needs, disciplined use of fact, data, and statistical analysis, and diligent attention to
managing improving, and reinventing business processes (Pande, P., et. al. 2000). The Six Sigma
methodology uses statistical tools to identify the factors that matter most for improving the quality
of processes and generating bottom–line results. The Six Sigma DMAIC (Define, Measure,

Compare And Contrast David And The Evolution Of Art
The evolution of art, be it paintings, sculpture, poetry or music has impacted the world towards a
more observant and intelligent society. The Renaissance was a movement that saw the reemergence
of realistic depiction of human form and nature. These artists were inspired by the ancient Greek and
Roman art and it's culture. Renaissance masterpieces incorporated accurate and harmonious
proportions of the human body and balanced, well thought out compositions relating to the ideas of
an ideal world. The Baroque movement came right after the Renaissance. It was developed in Rome,
by the Catholic church in the hope of reinventing itself. This style used a lot of drama and grandeur

Their beauty and perfection is one of the reasons why it's still considered a masterpiece. Their
creators have left us enough evidence of their mastery and are immortals because of their work. The
intention here is to compare the differences and similarities of ; Michelangelo Buonarroti's and
Gianlorenzo Bernini's representation of David. According to the Old Testament, (Samuel, book 1)
David was a shepherd who was among the battle lines of the Israelites and who accepted the
challenge to fight Goliath, champion of the Philistines, one on one. David came out victorious
despite the lack of protection and armoury by cutting Goliath's head off after bringing him down
from his horse with a single stone shot. David, since then is considered a symbol of bravery and
intelligence. He's also a symbol of hope and strength for the weak. He is the proof that there are
other more important virtues aside from physical strength that confide power. Due to this important
symbology many artists decided to create their own representation of how they saw this brave figure
while giving a very important message to the spectators. Some of these artists are Donatello,

Work Ethics Of Japanese Manufacturing Management
Lean is a perfect way of approach if any task is to be done instantly and without waste which
eventually helps in saving working capital and productivity. JIT(just–in–time) is a concept
introduced by Toyota group to improve return on investment on inventory, which is also known as
Japanese manufacturing management. According to general manager it may be possible using JIT
techniques. The below are the considerable points to conclude with the appropriate decision.
Lean Philosophy
The basic factors can be summarised as:
Management Discipline
Waste control and
Quality improvement
JIT Techniques

Challenges Of Implementing Lean Within The Healthcare Sector
1.0 Chapter one: Introduction "As global healthcare expenditure soars, and as systems are
increasingly required to deliver better care to more people using less resource, the challenge to
explore the promises of lean thinking is compelling" (Young and McClean, 2009 p.309). In the UK
the government has set deadlines for Accident and Emergency (A&E) patients to be dealt with
(Boseley, 2015). The hospitals are facing challenges for this deadline. In this context the
implementation of lean can enable hospitals improve their efficiencies whiles at the same time
reducing cost. This dissertation looks into the opportunities and challenges of implementing lean
within the healthcare sector. 1.1 Background: The lean philosophy centers on the elimination of
waste in all forms in an organisation (Shpak, 2016). Lean is usually implemented by initially
conducting training, initiating pilot projects and implementing changes (Poksinska, 2010). Some of
the benefits of lean implementation includes: improves quality and safety; improves staff moral;
improves throughput; improves delivery and helps in cost reduction (Jones and Mitchel, 2006; NHS
Institute for Innovation and Improvement 2007). The challenges of lean implementation include:
resistance to change and lack of team work; limited communication and leadership and staff having
less knowledge of the lean concept (Grove et al., 2010; Halling and Wijk, 2013 and Poksinska,
2010). This research is to explore some challenges of

Later on, many service industries have adopted the philosophy of Lean with the aim of improving
their quality of service, processes, methods and resulting a better customer satisfaction. The study
made revealed that although the Lean Manufacturing was designed and developed for the
manufacturing industries initially, it is now proven that even the service industries could implement
the Lean principles as well, and increasing the customer satisfaction.
In this project, we compare and contrast how lean manufacturing principles and its best practices
have been applied in the Food industry (manufacturing industry) and the Health Care and Hospital
systems (service industry).

various sectors such as meat and fish, vegetables and fruits, dairy and its products, bakery, oils and
fats, coffee and cocoa products, sugar and salt, cocoa and its products, canned foods, and alcoholic
and non–alcoholic beverages, etc. The food industry represents more than 20% of the total industry.

However, the team Management and employees is both internal and external colleague, reflecting
the new interdependencies in today's competitive market. The supply chain manager takes into

warehouse and distribution centers to retailers and stores. "A firm's supply system includes all

materials, equipment, and services in an optimized fashion" (Burt, Dobler, & Starling, 2003).
However, implementing this type of system within the firm has a vital role in helping the company

The Kingdoms Of Judah And Israel
The Kingdoms of Judah and Israel from ca. 922 to 586 BCE have a significant impact not only on
the Jewish tradition, but also on the history of Ancient Israel and its development, therefore it is
important to discuss their political structure and influence. To discuss the political structure and
developments of this period modern scholars refer to as the divided monarchy in Ancient Israel,
there must first be a discussion of the political and religious factors that bring about the unification
and later division of the tribes of Israel. In the Hebrew Bible, various tribes are depicted as
encompassing the land of Canaan prior to a time modern scholars refer to as the united monarchy,
which refers to the rule of King Saul, David and Solomon. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The inability of the three great powers of the time, Egypt, Assyria and Babylon, to exert influence
over lesser entities such as the philistines greatly contributed to their rise in power. The culmination
of these events lead to a desire and almost obligation of political unification under a monarch for the
tribes of Israel because their internal weakness threatened their very existence. Nevertheless,
contrary to the depiction in the Hebrew Bible, the tribes appear to maintain a significant amount of
autonomy during the monarchy, which leads to the demise of the small unified monarchy and the
development of two split kingdoms, Israel and Judah, that is found in I Kings 12. This is a result of
increased demands and pressure from King Solomon that would have escalated if his son Rehoboam
came to power over the lands of Israel. However, many scholars such as Beth Alpert Nakhai, attest
that hints of disunity between Judah and other tribes were present through rebellions in David and
Solomon's reigns. Therefore, leaders of the various tribes elected to anoint a new king over their
lands that would politically unite them enough to protect them from outside threats, while still
maintaining their relative autonomy over their own tribes, making the kingdom of Israel a dispersed
state with various religious and political centers. On the other hand, the kingdom of Judah
maintained not only unity

Standardized work is one of the most powerful but least used lean tools. By documenting the current
best practice, standardized work forms the baseline for kaizen or continuous improvement. As the
standard is improved, the new standard becomes the baseline for further improvements, and so on.
Improving standardized work is a never–ending process. Basically, standardized work consists of
three elements: Takt time, which is the rate at which products must be made in a process to meet
customer demand The precise work sequence in which an operator performs tasks within takt time

Volvo, Motorola, Ericsson, and Siemens have come to understand how dispersing authority of
decision making out to the field organization drives job satisfaction. (Schon, 2010, 99–118) Job
satisfaction drives productivity and process improvement. Process improvement cuts out waste.
Cutting out waste improves the bottom line. There is still a clear disconnect with the goals and styles
of the operations executive team in many organizations today. LSS deployments are bound to

Psalms In The Hebrew Bible
Looking at the Hebrew Bible, the Psalms fall into the Ketuvim, or "Writings." The Hebrew Bible
has Psalms listed as tehillâ; "a derivative of hālal. This root connotes being sincerely and deeply
thankful for and/or satisfied in the lauding a superior quality(ies) or great, great act(s) of an object."
The book of Psalms renders itself to speak into every situation a person could have; in times of
sadness, happiness, when looking for some wisdom, or just feeling thankful for who he is and all he
has done in your life. Dr. Cartledge stated in his lecture on Psalms that "the central overriding theme
of Psalms is the presence or absence of God." In the Jewish tradition, there are descriptions at the
beginning of the psalms that will tell either who wrote it, who it is written to, or the song tune.

The Evolution Of Lean Manufacturing
LEAN MANUFACTURING
Origins of Lean Lean originally originated from Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) (McCarthy,
2015) in the early 1900's however it wasn't until the Toyota family introduced the Toyota Production
System (TPS) into their company manufacturing operations that it began to gain recognition. In the
1950's, Toyota first implemented quality measures within the production lines process and hence the
initial stages of continuous improvement. Taiichi Ono, who was the executive vice president,
developed and implemented the renowned Toyota Production System (TPS) after the Second World
War as a means of producing a highly effective and efficient manufacturing line for their products.
Ono took great inspiration from Henry Ford's early lean concepts and applied it to meet the demand
of their own Japanese market. This built the seeds of TPS, which today is better known as lean
manufacturing (Womack&Jones, 1996). Nowadays, Lean is used globally throughout industry in all
different sizes of enterprises that can depend on the successful implementation of Lean. (Herron,
2008). Toyota's success as one of the world's largest automotive manufacturers and leading Lean
implementers stands as proof of Leans merits. (Institite, 2000–2016). This has led to enormous
demand for knowledge on leans tools and techniques as companies continue to have success with its
implementation.

Found within the book of Matthew in the New Testament is the parable of the foolish man and the
wise man. The similarities from The Hunger Games are portrayed through the stark contrast of the
Capitol and the districts. In this parable, "the foolish man" is depicted by the dictating Capitol, while
"the wise man" stands for the destitute districts. A strong foundation of solid rock is used for
building "the wise man's" house, which in this example would be the people's lives. Most of the
district members build their lives upon firm ground, meaning high standards, moral character,
humility, hard–work, and justice. They know that what the Capitol is doing is wicked and unjust.
This builds a strong moral character inside them, placing their houses upon rock, so when the rains
come down, and the floods come up, they will be able to stand steadfast amidst the destruction. On
the other hand, the Capitol is symbolized as "the foolish man" because of their unwise decision to
construct their lives upon loose and fluctuating sand. The sand is constituted of traits such as:
shallowness, pride, laziness, selfishness, trivialness and de–sensitivity. Therefore, once the heavy
rains come bearing down, they will simply be washed away. In this quote, the people of the Capitol
are explaining how they felt or what they did when a certain event in the Hunger Games took place,
" 'I was still in bed!' 'I had just had my eyebrows dyed!' 'I swear I nearly fainted!' Everything is
about them, not the dying boys and girls in the arena" (354). The example of selfishness and shallow
character is clearly depicted through this piece of dialogue in the novel. The selfishness of the
Capitol, and the good–heartedness of the districts, establish a likeness to the bible story of the
foolish man and the wise

Narrative Essay On Kathrynne
"Love is irrelevant to my cause," she returns and elaborates. "The one that I marry, the one that'll sit
beside me, must never be seen as my equal. He must be willing to stand in my shadow, and allow
me to lead." "You do not want a husband, you want a puppet," he snaps. "A marriage deride out of
obligation to further your standing." Kathrynne exchanges glance with those that are dancing around
them, discreetly eavesdropping on their entire argument. She looks back to Reinhold, upset that he
has made her appear weak in front of those that have the power to dethrone her. "Reinhold...like you
mention, we come from different stations in life. And we both need to except that we want different
things when it comes to marriage," she concludes. "I'm sorry, but this can never be." She storms off,
pushing through those in her path. Reinhold thought to follow, but Kathrynne was half way across
the ballroom when the horns gave a celebratory ring, signaling the start of the next song. He lingers,
crush by the weight of her words. Silently praying, this is not how their story ends. At the same
time, Princess Kathrynne looks around to those that are standing near her, making sure no one
noticed as she wipes her wet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That is why she has been studying the laws of war, in secret from Lieutenant Colet–who believes in
the prophecy. By training and learning, she hopes to convince her doubters that she is the perfect

whether they are from across the sea or over their boarders. However, none of her efforts will

Essay On The Lion King As A Short Story
AS THE THRONE ROOM CLEARS, Gawin pauses at the double doors, signaling with a slight nod
to the Kingsmen guarding them.
The Kingsmen returns Gawin's nods and closes the doors.
At which point, Gawin glides–as if his feet never touched the floor–to a crestfallen King David,
staring onwards in his throne with his right hand clenched into a fist, holding up his cleft chin. "Your
grace," he asked, "is everything all right?"
The King answered humbly, choosing an unburdensome subject matter to discuss. "My eldest son
will soon wed."
"The prince has chosen an excellent maiden to be his wife," Gawin said formally as if his Seeker's
ability did not play a significant role in the betrothal. "Has his grace, finally found a suitor for your
eldest daughter, Princess Kathrynne?"
The lines around King David's eyes immediately soften, at the very mention of his daughter's name.
He leans back in his massive throne, carved in the shape of a roaring lion (his family's crest), resting
his head underneath the lion's mouth. "Seeker, I've chosen many suitors, but the Princess keeps
rebuffing them," he tells him. The King's mind was more at ease in Gawin's presence–enough to
speak openly–without fear of his Royal Seeker repeating his most intimate thoughts. "If my
daughter wishes to be Queen someday," he adds, "she'll need to find a husband soon to appease the
council and her future subjects."
Invoking a sincere sympathy in Gawin from the King's pessimistic tone, making it visible to the

Ruth
The book of Ruth is a book about sacrifice, faith, patience, love, kindness, restoration, and
fruitfulness. The basic literary is narrative and the authorship is believed to be Samuel written
between 1020 – 1000 BC. The main personalities of this book are Ruth, Naomi, and Boaz. The
Book of Ruth is about how a man named Elimelech takes his wife Naomi and their two sons Mahlon
and Chilion from living in a town known as "the house of bread" in Bethlehem to the land of Moab
on his own will to escape death. Here the two sons married unequally yoked Moab women by the
names of Orpah and Ruth. All within a decade Naomi loses her husband and two sons to death. One
day Naomi hears that God's favor has returned to Bethlehem and that food is available so Naomi
decides to return. Not too far into the journey back to Bethlehem, accompanied by Orpah and Ruth,
Naomi tells Orpah and Ruth to return to Moab but Ruth decides to continue with Naomi and follow
God. Upon their arrival, the whole town was in a frenzy at the return of Naomi. When confronted
about her identity she told them to call her Mara, which means bitter, and no longer Naomi which
means pleasant. Ruth and Naomi returned at the beginning of the barley harvest and the next day
Ruth took it upon herself to go to the field collect food. While out on the field a man by the name of
Boaz, who is related to

STAATS Lean at Wipro Technologies "We want to bring the next generation of lean thinking into our processes and weave it into our system so it will lead to a sustainable competitive advantage." – Azim Premji, Wipro Chairman Sambuddha Deb ("Deb"), Wipro Technologies Chief Quality Officer and Head of Operational Excellence, and Alexis Samuel, General Manager Process, Tools and Productivity, each thanked the other attendees at the lean project review session and walked out the door together. Revenue was distributed globally with the United States, Europe and the rest of the world accounting for 67%, 27%, and 6% of total FY2005 revenue, respectively. Over 95% of Wipro employees had degrees in science or engineering prior to joining the company. While the company was an outsourced provider of software services it worked on projects both onsite (at a customer's location) and offshore (at Wipro facilities primarily in India). In 2005, the company completed approximately 75% of its work offshore and 25% onsite. Both cost pressure (work done offshore was relatively cheaper) and a shortage of work visas (particularly in the United States) were pushing Wipro to complete more work offshore. Wipro billed for its projects using one of two approaches. Its initial approach, known as time and materials (T&M), involved billing a client at a pre–specified rate for the actual number of hours that its software engineers worked on the project plus the cost of any software or tools required. In the newer approach, known as a fixed price project (FPP), Wipro quoted its customer a guaranteed price for the work and then was responsible for delivering the final product. Any effort overages on a FPP were the responsibility of Wipro. In 2005, the company's revenues were split approximately 80/20 between T&M and FPP, respectively. The percentage of FPP was growing as clients were becoming more comfortable with outsourced ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In sum, every action that does not produce value is considered waste (muda) (Liker, 2005). The goal is to create a system (software development or otherwise) that is waste free. "Several Agile techniques can be used to achieve this in software development, making LSD and Agile similar at first glance (Austad, 2011)". Origin/History It is important to note the history of Lean and the history of Lean Software development (LSD) are two different histories. Lean and LSD are related but their histories are different. This history will focus on LSD. The term lean software development originated in a book written by Mary Poppendieck and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Empower the Team – In a traditional work environment, decisions are made from the top down. In a LSD, it works in reverse of that. "The lean approach favors the aphorism 'find good people and let them do their own job,' encouraging progress, catching errors, and removing impediments, but not micro–managing (Liker, 2005)." Defer Commitment – By deferring critical/irreversible, you keep your options open for as long as possible (Liker, 2005). Pros/Cons Pros o Delivering the product early means that the development team can deliver more functionality in a shorter period of time, hence enabling more projects to be delivered. o Empowerment of the development team helps in developing the decision making ability of the team members which in turn creates more motivation among team members ( 'Top 12 Software Development Methodologies And Its Advantages/Disadvantages ', 2014). Cons o Lean does not do very well in small dev teams where the projects are small and unpredictable (job shop and/or lots of support). o " The project sponsors and clients need to know what they want and make decisions they will stick to. In lean software development these decisions can be made later. But the problem is that project sponsors tend to be paralyzed by fear when it comes to making the tough decisions. • 13. Total Cost Minimization : The Development Of The Assembly... Total Cost Minimization The development of the assembly line has greatly impacted the way in which products are manufactured for the masses today. The innovation of the assembly line reduced the cost required to make products which opened the market of luxury items, such as cars and kitchen appliances, to the middle class. The first assembly line designed for large scale manufacturing was developed by Henry Ford in 1913. Ford desired a method to produce a large quantity of the Model T car at a minimal cost. Ford achieved this method by standardizing the parts required to make the car, simplifying large tasks into smaller ones and increasing the demands of manual labour. Ford's assembly line provided other car manufacturing companies with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Automation enables parts to be manufactured at a rapid pace; however these newly developed machines are able to assess if there is a defect in the part or in the machine itself and are programmed stop immediately to prevent manufacturing defected products. Primarily, human automation minimizes the cost of production as it reduces the number of workers necessary to ensure a quality product. Workers can be less vigilant while monitoring the machines as the machines have sensors that indicate if there is a problem that needs to be addressed. As a result, one worker can monitor several machines which reduces the cost associated with worker's wages. Secondly, this type of automation reduces the total cost as it minimizes the amount of defected products that are manufactured. Dr. Anil Mital from the Industrial Engineering Department at the University of Cincinnati comments, "it is essential to integrate inspection into automated manufacturing in order to provide the necessary feedback which could be used to fine tune the automated manufacturing system" (119). This insight demonstrates the importance of manufacturing quality products the first time to reduce costs. Inspection prevents the mass production of defected products which eliminates the costs needed to repair the unusable parts. Therefore, the development of human automation allows for total cost minimization in the manufacturing process as it reduces the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Effect Of Lean Production On A Process Plant Essay REVIEW OF "THE USE OF LEAN PRODUCTION IN A PROCESS PLANT" HARRY DEBOLE Griffith School of Engineering, Griffith University, Gold Coast, QLD4222, Australia This paper presents a review of the use of Lean Production in a process plant. It defines lean production as a process putting into consideration the history and the reason it was formulated. It also considers the application, benefits and the barriers to the effective maximization of the process. Keywords: Lean Production, Process plant, Definition, Applications, Benefits, Conclusion 1. Definition Any activity in a process, which does not add value to the customer, is called 'waste'. Sometimes the waste is a necessary part of the process and adds value to the company and this cannot be eliminated, e.g., financial controls. Lean production is based on the principles and working processes of the Toyota Production System (TPS), and has been defined as doing more with less. In its simplest terms, lean production can be described as the elimination of waste. It has been most prominent in discrete, repetitive assembly– type operations. Liker suggests that the goals of lean production are highest quality, lowest cost, and shortest lead–time. Lean production can be considered as a philosophy and as a set of tools and practices for the continuous improvement of operations. 2. Brief History of Lean Production In order to understand lean production system, it is important to understand it in its historical perspective first. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Opening Sequences of David Lean and Alfonso Cuaron's Film Version of Great Expectations In this media assignment I shall be analyzing and comparing the similarities and differences of two famous directors' film versions of 'Great Expectations'. The two directors are David Lean and Alfonso Cuaron. David Lean's version was more popular and well known than Alfonso Cuaron's because Lean was the first director to actually direct 'Great Expectations'. This made it more difficult for Alfonso Cuaron because he had to bring the film up to date by making the film more modern and there have also been 10 other films based on the novel 'Great Expectations'. David Lean had directed his version of 'Great ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... David Lean and Alfonso Cuaron are using the different techniques to keep the audience interested in the movie. The soundtrack of both versions is different because Alfonso Cuaron has played music throughout his opening frames. He has introduced sound effects such as waves that give the audience a pleasant sound to their ears; this same effect is employed with seagulls. The music that is actually played has a joyful and happy mood, which encourages the audience to think that the film is a non–violent film. But when Magwitch appears from underneath the water in the tenth frame and grabs Pip, at this point the music changes from joyful and happy to dramatic and shocking. The Effect of Lean Six Sigma on the Employee and the Organization MGMT – 500 Abstract Lean Six Sigma is a methodology that creates processes within an organization to cut waste and improve the company's performance. However, studies have shown that over the past decade applying Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma can create problems for companies financially and potential problems for employees. Occasionally, even the successes are not wholly attributed to the Lean Six Sigma process. The question currently being asked, are United States companies doing poorly with lean and is lean faltering? Studies over the past 10 years have shown that United States companies are not only doing poorly, but that they have become worse over the past five to seven years (Schonberger, 2007, p.22). Lean Manufacturing was a brilliant idea that achieved great success with car manufacturers like Toyota. However, these practices have actually hurt many organizations when companies attempt to apply them internally to certain practices. Too many companies have attempted to correct problems internally using certain lean methods that should only be applied to manufacturing. Companies have applied the Lean Six Sigma approach to cut waste within the organization by reducing raw materials, work–in–progress and finished goods inventory. Companies have also streamlined their own employees reducing headcount and hiring or retraining remaining staff that can perform many tasks instead of specific jobs. In–fact, organizations that have applied Lean Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing internally are still seeing losses. Companies have neglected to look externally for waste instead of constantly focusing on internal processes and problems. Creating these reductions, companies are actually seeing two to 10 times more lead–time externally than internally (Schonberger, 2007, p. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lean Management LEAN IN PRODUCTION AND SERVICE The word term ''LEAN'' was put together to describe and personalize Toyota's business activity during the 1980's by a research team headed by one Jim Womack, Ph.D., at MIT's international Motor vehicle programme. According to them, the concept of 'LEAN' was fathered by Taiichi Ohno of Toyota. Ohno developed a contrasting approach to the mass production methods of US car firms through necessity. Later, in 1996, Jim Womack's team espoused the five lean principles and also lean tools that they believed were the secret for Toyota's success. Process: how will the organization assess each major value stream devised to make sure each step in the value stream is valuable, capable, available, adequate and flexible? 3. The point of this idea is to lessen the amount of assets or quantity, so the main focus can be utilized as a benefit for selling products and furthering assistance to customers. All while in sync, it is about making the association of the business or supply chain more productive, vaulable and more importantly effective. Lean production can be characterized from various perspectives, however the most mainstream is the "elimination of all waste and continuous improvement of productivity." (Arnold, Chapman, 2012, p.340) Waste means something besides the base measure of hardware, parts, space, material, creation time and laborers ' time which make it completely important to increase the value of the item. Lean production is built on various effective ideas such as continuous improvement, organizing the business, and just–in–time production, which makes lean production so effective in supply chains. Lean production includes wiping out what might be wasteful and hence utilizing less energy, supplys, capacity and time. In return, this lessens costs and helps companies, such as supply chains, excel in business. The three basic values of supply chains are simplicity, consistency and responsibility. Lean production ties in quite well with these qualities. For instance, supply chain stores are basic in outline and all stores are fundamentally the same which makes them consistent, which is ... Brief Encounter (1945), according to Dyer Richard's words (1993, p.9), is a 'lovely film', but also 'pretty much a good one too'. It indicates that this film conveys many symbolic meanings, such as how people struggle in forbidden love, but represents the reality as well, like women are vulnerable in a relationship. In this essay, it will be claimed from three aspects to prove the film is best understood as a sober realist drama. You are free to believe what you want, love who you wish, and be you think you are designed to be. Although America may have many benefits that most countries and continents don't, it came at a price. America had to fight her way to the top, and every constitutional right was earned by the endurance and victories it took to make them possible. From a fledgling nation that didn't have much hope to one that had the courage to proclaim Manifest Destiny America definitely earned everything it has to offer. From the beginning America has been a sort of safe haven. From when the pilgrims first decided to cross the Atlantic, due to the dysfunctions of England. At the time England was very unfair to most of its people. By not letting one rank up higher if the where at a lower class, or only letting the eldest of the family inherit any land that the parents owned, leaving nothing to offer their other children. But the biggest reason was that the Church of England wouldn't allow its people to worship God the way the people felt was correct. So therefore they made the decision to cross over to America where they would be free to start over again and worship God freely and how they felt was the accurate and correct way to do so. Although crossing over to America was the only option the pilgrims had if they wished to start anew there would be risks that came with it. The risk of leaving their homes behind knowing that returning wasn't exactly an option. Along with the fact that they didn't have an exact idea of where they were going or where they would end up. They basically risked their lives just to be able to worship God freely and for their families to not have to dwell under England's unfair rulings. After crossing the relentless Atlantic with the tragic fact that some of their people were lost along the way, they officially made it to America. They arrived in the land that was going to be the start of their new lives, but it resulted in more than half of their population dead within the first few weeks of winter. This example reveals that Toyota is far from perfect and experiences serious problems and gives insights into how Toyota responds to problems by getting to the root cause. The paper concludes with a discussion of some of the cultural issues that affect the ability to create a Toyota–like HR system in America. What is the Role of HR in a Lean Enterprise? The concept of "lean production" was first introduced in The Machine that Changed the World (Womack et al., 1991) to refer to a new way of looking at the manufacturing enterprise. It was distinguished from mass production by its single–minded focus on eliminating waste in all aspects of the enterprise. An enterprise exists to add value to customers through a series of activities that transform inputs into outputs and anything other than the minimum needed to perform that value–added function is waste. Toyota was the original model for lean and the concept of "just–in–time" epitomized the focus on waste elimination –– only make exactly what is needed, in the amount needed, when it is needed. In fact the just–in–time principle is one aspect of a broader philosophy represented by the Toyota production system. In TPS, the just–in–time concept is one pillar and the other is to build in quality at every step of the process, not allowing defects to propagate through the value stream. The ... So he is using information technology to implement the program and to improve the process of inventory restocking. (Larenernest, 2010) However, workers have been so accustomed to the Kanban system that it is difficult for them to change the system, so there is a high resistance to change among the business. In addition, it is well–known that Microsoft managed to reduce inventory levels and increase production rates without significant investment in information technology. They settled with the traditional method of trying to adopt new methods and many operating firms were deliberately separated from the technology because the first thing the experts tell Kanban factory to do is to disconnect the Material Requirements Planning System (MRP). MRP is a system used to manage manufacturing processes in terms of production planning, scheduling, and inventory control. • 73. How Lean's Helps A Sustainable Print Company How Lean Methodology Leads to a Sustainable Print Company Continual improvement is a goal for all print companies looking for future success. To become a sustainable company one needs to cut unnecessary costs and waste generated by doing business. Removing cost and waste may seem like simple things to do but finding the necessary changes and implementing these changes requires time and effort. A method used to accomplish this goal is lean manufacturing. Lean manufacturing is a continuous improvement practice that focuses on waste reduction. Waste in its simplest form is anything that is excessive and consumes resources. It can also be referred to as non–value–added activities that do not add value to the end product (Rizzo, 2008, 58). Sustainability on the other hand recognizes a print company's capability to satisfy the 3 dimensions: people, profit and environment (Wirtenberg, 2013). These three dimensions are referred to as the triple bottom line (TBL). Even when a business is making a profit, anything that does not create value for customers, fulfill employees' needs, and benefit the environment is wasteful and must be restructured to eliminate non–value–added activities (Wandiga, 2013).This is the philosophy of lean manufacturing; a beneficial concept that can help reduce the amount of wasted resources in a company and contribute to its sustainability. The Psalms were originally written as songs. About half of these were actually written by David. The Psalms are broken up into five sections and Psalm 123 and Psalm 124 are from the last section dealing with captivity. Psalm 123 focuses on lifting our eyes to the Lord who is on Heaven's throne, and seeking His mercy. Our yearning for God is similar to the way a slave looks to the hand of its master. ABSTRACT Lean Six Sigma approach is recognized widely and has been implemented predominately in manufacturing rather than other industries. To illustrate the point, this paper draws attention to the adoption of Lean Six Sigma in various industries with a case study. The combination of Lean tools and Six Sigma methodology is used to improve the process and quality by eliminating the variations and creating workflow in a process. The hypothesis of this study was that the Six Sigma technique can be used along with lean tools in order to improve process and quality in any area of industries. The review of case study discovered the use of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to achieve the goals, there are several tools and methods have been introduced in lean production. The tools and methods are including: 5S's Visual controls Facilities layout Pull production (also described as kanban or just–in–time) Single minute exchange of dies (SMED) Total productive maintenance Source inspection Continuous improvement (also known as kaizen) 3.2 Six Sigma The concept of Six Sigma was developed in the early 1980's at Motorola Corporation (Harry and Schroeder, 2000). Six Sigma can be defined as a statistical measure of the performance of a process or product (Kumi et. al., 2006). It is used as a quality control mechanism, which seeks to reduce defects or variations in a process to 3.4 per million opportunities thereby optimizing output and increasing customer satisfaction (Sambhe, 2012). Sigma is representing the standard deviation, a unit of measurement that designates the distribution or spread about the mean of a process (Six Sigma Academy, 2002). In addition, the Six Sigma uniquely driven by close understanding of customer needs, disciplined use of fact, data, and statistical analysis, and diligent attention to managing improving, and reinventing business processes (Pande, P., et. al. 2000). The Renaissance was a movement that saw the reemergence of realistic depiction of human form and nature. These artists were inspired by the ancient Greek and Roman art and it's culture. Renaissance masterpieces incorporated accurate and harmonious proportions of the human body and balanced, well thought out compositions relating to the ideas of an ideal world. The Baroque movement came right after the Renaissance. It was developed in Rome, by the Catholic church in the hope of reinventing itself. This style used a lot of drama and grandeur to create a sense of awe. Considering our artistic heritage as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The intention here is to compare the differences and similarities of ; Michelangelo Buonarroti's and Gianlorenzo Bernini's representation of David. According to the Old Testament, (Samuel, book 1) David was a shepherd who was among the battle lines of the Israelites and who accepted the challenge to fight Goliath, champion of the Philistines, one on one. David came out victorious despite the lack of protection and armoury by cutting Goliath's head off after bringing him down from his horse with a single stone shot. David, since then is considered a symbol of bravery and intelligence. He's also a symbol of hope and strength for the weak. He is the proof that there are other more important virtues aside from physical strength that confide power. Due to this important symbology many artists decided to create their own representation of how they saw this brave figure while giving a very important message to the spectators. Challenges Of Implementing Lean Within The Healthcare Sector 1.0 Chapter one: Introduction "As global healthcare expenditure soars, and as systems are increasingly required to deliver better care to more people using less resource, the challenge to explore the promises of lean thinking is compelling" (Young and McClean, 2009 p.309). In the UK the government has set deadlines for Accident and Emergency (A&E) patients to be dealt with (Boseley, 2015). The hospitals are facing challenges for this deadline. In this context the implementation of lean can enable hospitals improve their efficiencies whiles at the same time reducing cost. This dissertation looks into the opportunities and challenges of implementing lean within the healthcare sector. 1.1 Background: The lean philosophy centers on the elimination of waste in all forms in an organisation (Shpak, 2016). Lean is usually implemented by initially conducting training, initiating pilot projects and implementing changes (Poksinska, 2010). Some of the benefits of lean implementation includes: improves quality and safety; improves staff moral; improves throughput; improves delivery and helps in cost reduction (Jones and Mitchel, 2006; NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement 2007). The challenges of lean implementation include: resistance to change and lack of team work; limited communication and leadership and staff having less knowledge of the lean concept (Grove et al., 2010; Halling and Wijk, 2013 and Poksinska, 2010). The Kingdoms Of Judah And Israel The Kingdoms of Judah and Israel from ca. 922 to 586 BCE have a significant impact not only on the Jewish tradition, but also on the history of Ancient Israel and its development, therefore it is important to discuss their political structure and influence. To discuss the political structure and developments of this period modern scholars refer to as the divided monarchy in Ancient Israel, there must first be a discussion of the political and religious factors that bring about the unification and later division of the tribes of Israel. In the Hebrew Bible, various tribes are depicted as encompassing the land of Canaan prior to a time modern scholars refer to as the united monarchy, which refers to the rule of King Saul, David and Solomon. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The inability of the three great powers of the time, Egypt, Assyria and Babylon, to exert influence over lesser entities such as the philistines greatly contributed to their rise in power. The culmination of these events lead to a desire and almost obligation of political unification under a monarch for the tribes of Israel because their internal weakness threatened their very existence. Nevertheless, contrary to the depiction in the Hebrew Bible, the tribes appear to maintain a significant amount of autonomy during the monarchy, which leads to the demise of the small unified monarchy and the development of two split kingdoms, Israel and Judah, that is found in I Kings 12. This is a result of increased demands and pressure from King Solomon that would have escalated if his son Rehoboam came to power over the lands of Israel. However, many scholars such as Beth Alpert Nakhai, attest that hints of disunity between Judah and other tribes were present through rebellions in David and Solomon's reigns. Therefore, leaders of the various tribes elected to anoint a new king over their lands that would politically unite them enough to protect them from outside threats, while still maintaining their relative autonomy over their own tribes, making the kingdom of Israel a dispersed state with various religious and political centers. The Evolution Of Lean Manufacturing LEAN MANUFACTURING Origins of Lean Lean originally originated from Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) (McCarthy, 2015) in the early 1900's however it wasn't until the Toyota family introduced the Toyota Production System (TPS) into their company manufacturing operations that it began to gain recognition. In the 1950's, Toyota first implemented quality measures within the production lines process and hence the initial stages of continuous improvement. Taiichi Ono, who was the executive vice president, developed and implemented the renowned Toyota Production System (TPS) after the Second World War as a means of producing a highly effective and efficient manufacturing line for their products. Ono took great inspiration from Henry Ford's early lean concepts and applied it to meet the demand of their own Japanese market. This built the seeds of TPS, which today is better known as lean manufacturing (Womack&Jones, 1996). Nowadays, Lean is used globally throughout industry in all different sizes of enterprises that can depend on the successful implementation of Lean. (Herron, 2008). Toyota's success as one of the world's largest automotive manufacturers and leading Lean implementers stands as proof of Leans merits. (Institite, 2000–2016). Found within the book of Matthew in the New Testament is the parable of the foolish man and the wise man. The similarities from The Hunger Games are portrayed through the stark contrast of the Capitol and the districts. In this parable, "the foolish man" is depicted by the dictating Capitol, while "the wise man" stands for the destitute districts. A strong foundation of solid rock is used for building "the wise man's" house, which in this example would be the people's lives. Most of the district members build their lives upon firm ground, meaning high standards, moral character, humility, hard–work, and justice. They know that what the Capitol is doing is wicked and unjust. This builds a strong moral character inside them, placing their houses upon rock, so when the rains come down, and the floods come up, they will be able to stand steadfast amidst the destruction. On the other hand, the Capitol is symbolized as "the foolish man" because of their unwise decision to construct their lives upon loose and fluctuating sand. The sand is constituted of traits such as: shallowness, pride, laziness, selfishness, trivialness and de–sensitivity. Therefore, once the heavy rains come bearing down, they will simply be washed away. In this quote, the people of the Capitol are explaining how they felt or what they did when a certain event in the Hunger Games took place, " 'I was still in bed!' 'I had just had my eyebrows dyed!' 'I swear I nearly fainted!' Everything is about them, not the dying boys and girls in the arena" (354).
