PTSD And Violence
In examining PTSD in children and its relation to violence, researchers use various methods to
extract data about specific stages of life.
Lieberman, Chu, Van Horn and Harris (2011) review qualitative and quantitative data from a variety
of researchers outlining the experiences of trauma in very young children (birth to age five) and
initial signs of PTSD. In their research, they identify child maltreatment (including physical abuse)
and witnessing violence as two of major contributors to the development of childhood PTSD, and
noted that approximately 45% to 70% of children with PTSD reported an overlap between both of
these experiences (Lieberman, Chu, Van Horn, Harris 2011, p. 2). Due to their limited ability to
report occurrences of PTSD ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through the use of semi–structured interviews, they discerned that 18% of their sample met PTSD
criteria outlined in the fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders
(DSM–5). This is higher than both the rate of PTSD in Vietnam combat veterans (15%) and
community–dwelling adolescents (1%) (Erwin, Newman, McMackin, Morrissey, Kaloupek 2000, p.
16). They note that despite the high rate of PTSD in violent young offenders, many of the adults
employed in the criminal justice system are not trained in assessment and treatment of PTSD,
leaving these youths without available help for their PTSD (Erwin, Newman, McMackin, Morrissey,
Kaloupek 2000, p. 2). For this reason and others, many researchers have expressed growing concern
regarding the large proportion of incarcerated adolescents with unmet mental health needs (Kerig,
Vanderzee, Becker, Ward, 2012). This is particularly problematic as incarcerated youth who
experience hyperarousal as a means of committing violence may experience greater exposure to
stressful cues while in custody, in addition to being removed from their support networks outside of
the correctional facility. They're then left in a situation that aggravates their PTSD while offering
little or no assistance, potentially lengthening their stay in

Paper Tigers Response

Yang Response In his essay "Paper Tigers," Wesley Yang discusses his own experiences as an Asian
American, tying them into the larger picture of Asians functioning in American society today. Yang's
argument is that even though Asian Americans are one of the most successful ethnicities in the
country, stereotypes that Asian Americans are exposed to affect the way other Americans view them.
Because of personal bias and racism, human society fails to see other people for who they are and
put too much emphasis on what they are supposed to or not supposed to be in America today.
Stereotypes cloud people's vision and judgment and keep some from achieving their goals because
others have a pre–created ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The stereotype that Asian Americans just naturally have a step up above the rest that paves the path
for the jealousy other ethnicities is really the result of ridiculous amounts of dedication and this
group of people should be praised for their work ethic.
These cram schools can be found all over Flushing, a town mostly occupied by Americans of Asian
descent. In Flushing, NY lives a young Asian American writer named Jefferson Mao who wrote to
Yang seeking guidance about "'being an Asian writer (535).'" This is a great example of how
stereotypes are affecting people today. This young man should not have to worry about being an
"Asian" writer, but attempt to be a great writer no matter what his background is. Unfortunately, not
all people think this way, and the Asian community suffers because of it. For example, "Princeton
sociologist Thomas Expenshade has calculated that an Asian applicant must, in practice, score 140
points higher on the SAT than a comparable white applicant to have the same chance of admission
(536)." This is incredibly unfair to young Asian Americans who strive for greatness and must work
harder to not only meet the standards that are required for an individual to receive admission, but to
get the standards needed for an Asian to get in. An example of fair acceptance on the collegiate level
would be UC–Berkley. Ten years after outlawing any "racial engineering" at the State's public

A Study On Chinese Mother
In the beginning of the article, author Chua gives the reader a list of things that she forbidden her
two daughters, Sophia and Louisa, to ever do. The list contain items such as: no sleepover, no play
date, no school play, no TV nor computer, no grade less than A, no other extracurricular activities
without parents approval, no other instruments beside piano and violin. Author Chua claims that this
is the list "Chinese mother" would applied to create genius kids such as "math whizzes and music
prodigies" (1). Moreover, she explains that "Chinese mother" do not necessary need to be Chinese,
but it is more of a term to describe a very strict parenting style.
Chu indicates "Chinese mother" and "Western parents" teaching styles are like night and day. She
supports her theory with examples such as: the practice hour's differences between two parenting
styles–three hours versus 30 minutes of practice time; "Chinese mother" would stayed hours to do
homework with their kids, whereas "Western parents" are suggested that "'stressing academic
success is not good for children' or that 'parents need to foster the idea that learning is fun'"(4). Chua
argues that when children get good at something the tasks and exercises become fun and exciting to
do although it might seem harsh in the process. Author Chua implicates that practice makes
everything perfect, thus persistent is the key to success. She indicates that once the kids get
compliments, respect, and contentment their confidence

Evaluate The Effects Of Listening To Pain
Soothing music can help patients feel less pain when they are in the dentist's office. Brain scans
have shown that when the patient is in pain that listening to music gives the brain more activity.
With more activity the brain starts to forget about the pain and focuses on more on the music being
played rather than dealing with the pain nerves inside of them. A good song can also make someone
have a different perception of pain in the moment they are experiencing the pain. Another study has
shown that the music can interfere with pain before it even reaches the signals
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects on humans. "The effects of music therapy on

Music Therapy Research Summary
Music Therapy Approaches for Treatment of Agitation and Anxiety in Patients with Dementia
Music Therapy Methods The studies reviewed, implemented various music therapy interventions to
older adult dementia patients to examine the effects associated with agitation and anxiety behaviors.
Music therapy methods used throughout the twelve studies include live presentations, pre–recorded
listening activities and instrumental utilization exercises. Two studies utilized a mixed method
model (Ridder, 2013; Chu, 2013). Live presentation approach. Two studies used a live presentation
approach to deliver the intended music therapy (Clare, 2014; Cooke, 2010). Clare?s (2014) case
study examined the effects of a live music presentation by a hired musician after four hours, from
11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at a long term care facility. The hired musician played guitar and sang to a

The majority of the reviewed studies used a certified music therapist in the study, either by
conducting or observing the music therapy intervention. In total, a certified music therapist was used
in six studies (Clare, 2014; Sung, 2012; Ridder, 2013; Chu, 2014; Raglio, 2015; Cooke, 2010). Clare
(2014) required a certified music therapist to observe participants during the hired musician?s live
presentation and record wellbeing scores. Cooke (2010) also utilized the certified music therapy in a
similar manner. A musical group of two performed live at every session, and a certified music
therapist introduced the session and was responsible for observing participants during the therapy.
The remaining studies assigned a musical therapist to deliver the selected music therapy approach
(Sung, 2012; Ridder, 2013, Chu, 2014; Raglio, 2015). A systemic review found eleven out of 20

One/City One Book Thesis
A One/City One Book project is a program where a town, city, or community reads a certain book
and have discussions, games, and activities. In order for the project to work, you need to assign a
book with which everyone one agrees with. A book that will open people's eyes and see other lives
and problems. This project is a great way to unite the community with reading. People say that
young age groups don't have a connection with older age groups, but this way they have something
to relate too. The community of Fort Morgan would benefit from a One/City One Book project
because it can unite the community into one, the organization could create interaction between
generations of the community, and it can broaden the reader's perspective. Reading is a wonderful
way to get others communicating with one another other than starting a conversation from blank. ...

This was a big change from Wang's slack management style. Conflict quickly arose between Chu
and Wang. As the fighting became worse between Chu and Wang, the more Chu started
micromanaging the company. This caused employee morale to drop dramatically.
Wang organized the senior executives to make an impromptu visit to the head office to express their
dissatisfaction with Chu to Cheng. After Cheng met with Liu and Dai of the executive group he was
sure that he would have to fire Chu from the GM role. He called her in to go over the problems
brought in by the executives under her. Chu explained that she was making headway and first–line
employees were realizing the benefits of her approach. However, she would need 3 more months to
get the executives on board with her approach. She felt certain the facts would convince them and
that she would sit down and discuss this with the executive team if he would give her the extra few
months.
Cheng is at a cross road on whether or not to give Chu 3 more months. He believes that "success
belongs to the persevering" and that an additional 3 months will give him time to find a suitable
replacement. On the other hand, he does not know if the company can take three more months with
Chu at the helm.

A Narrative Essay On A Hero's Journey
"DIA!" His father's screams replayed over in his head as he woke, being pulled out of his slumber
by the sound of doors crashing open. Captain Poison screamed at him "Your mothers and fathers are
dead! Your brothers and sisters are dead!" As Dia and the other boys were rushed through the camp,
the thoughts of his family came flooding back to him. The way his mother used to softly sing him to
sleep when he was younger or how his father would joke around with him on the way to school. His
family wasn't wealthy but it was enough for him. Dia was happy with his family. He realised that he
may never experience this happiness again.
Without realising it Dia fell to his knees at the sight of the dead bodies everywhere, the gunshots
echoing in the background. So consumed in the terror of it all he didn't even feel the sharp pain of
his knees hitting the ground. He was too scared of what his future held to even move. Suddenly he
felt himself shaking with fear as a cold hand yanked him off the ground and pressed an AK47 into
his arms and pushed him in the direction of a line up of people. Dia could sense the terror in the eyes

Perception and Inter-Cultural Communication
Perception and inter–cultural communication ¡°The moon is a rocky physical sphere that orbits the
Earth; yet when looking at this object, many Americans often see a man in the moon, many Native
Americans perceive a rabbit, Chinese claim a lady is fleeing her husband, and Samoans report a

represents victory. Australians equate this gesture with a rude American gesture usually made with

According to the principle of resemblance, you group people who are similar in appearance and
distinguish them from those who are dissimilar. For example, you would perceive members of the
same race to have similar values and opinions. You would perceive people who dress similarly (for
example, business executives in their gray suits) to be similar in attitudes or behaviors. However,
there is one thing that we should pay attention to. That is, neither of these principles will necessarily
give accurate information. Such information should only serve as hypothesis or possibilities that
need to be further investigated, not as true conclusions that should be acted upon. After the
organization of the sensory stimulation, we have to interpret and evaluate them, which is the third
and also the most important stage of the perception process. Here, we often use the hyphenated form

influenced by ¡°your experiences, need, wants, values, beliefs about the way things are or should be,

Eat Drink Man Woman By Ang Lee Essay
Taiwanese–born American filmmaker Ang Lee tells the story of a closely knit family with repressed
emotions in Taipei, Taiwan during a time of rapid modernization. Aging master chef Chu, Old Chu,
who has lost his sense of taste and his three unmarried adult daughters have a tradition of eating
elaborate Sunday dinners together. The eldest is Jia–Jen a schoolteacher and a converted Christian.
Jia–Chien, is the beautiful middle daughter who is a successful businesswoman. Finally, the
youngest is Jia–Ning, a college student who also works at a fast food restaurant. Initially this
tradition is portrayed as a tortuous experience which the three daughters dread, but later becomes an
important forum for the family's life–changing announcements. Using food as a medium Lee's film
Eat Drink Man Woman (1994) explores the themes of gender roles, family and globalization.
The title of this film Eat Drink Man Woman expresses an immediate introduction into the issues of
gender and authority. Which greatly shape the role of woman in the professional world of food
which is a predominantly male industry. This is shown through the all–male staff at the Grand Hotel
the restaurant that old Chu works at. In the Grand Hotel, Chu and his best friend Old Wen are seen
as two of the most important figures within the kitchen. This is communicated in the scene when
Chu is eating his traditional Sunday dinner with his family and he gets called into work. As he

Kinship Rules And Kinship Terms
According to Ide (1989: 229), kinship terms could be used by interlocutors as an effective strategy
to express politeness. Brown and Levison (1987) also have the same opinion, noting that kinship
terms could be used as politeness markers because they constitute "in–group identity markers". In
Vietnamese daily communication, kinship terms are not only restricted within the framework of
nuclear families, such as "bố mẹ" (parents), "anh" (elder brother), "chị" (elder sister), but also varies
in a very complicated list based on different criteria. According to Le (2013), there are several
factors that interlocutors must base on to decide appropriate kinship terms, such as age, gender,
social status, intimacy and acquaintance. However, within the family context, the hierarchical
position is the most important factor determining which kinship terms will be used by interlocutors.
There are two kinds of kinship terms used by Vietnamese people both inside and outside family
context based on paternal and maternal kin. On the one hand, paternal kinship terms used for people
relating to father's relatives, such as "ông nội" (paternal grandfather), "bà nội" (paternal
grandmother), "chú" (father's younger brother), "bác" (father's elder brother/sister), "cô" (father's
younger sister), "thím" (father's younger brother's wife). On the other hand, maternal kinship terms
used for people relating mother's relatives, such as "ông ngoại" (maternal grandfather), "bà ngoại"
(maternal grandmother),

Chinese education through a potent utilization of pathos and a defective employment of logos.
Throughout her article, Chu emotionally targets her American audience by complementing the
educational system in the United States in comparison to that in China. She begins by describing the
"traditional Chinese approach to education," which produces "undue psychological burdens," as
"outdated" and "discouraging" to establish its myriad of flaws. Moreover, Chu describes

Why Did Nationalist Movements Fail to Achieve Much Before...
Nationalist movements have been present since the start of colonial rule and the eminent failure of
these nationalist movements before the onset of World War Two have not gone un–noticed by
historians. 'nationalism is linked with the idea of progress, a progress which man himself can induce
or control.' The firm control that the pre–WWII Western colonial powers imposed on the territories
that they governed ensure that the local people would not demand for the sovereignty of their state.
However a select few revolutionaries formed nationalist movements in order to regain the
independence of their states. Unfortunately, many of these nationalist movements failed to achieve

in the northeast. By 1901, the number of phi bun movements rose to well over 100. By 1902, many
of these movements were able to take up arms against the state. However, these armed rebellions

success of the radical anti–colonial movement was limited as repression and suppression of any

When faced with the task of finding long term care for a loved one, what is of utmost importance
when finding facilities in your area? Is it the amenities? The resources offered? Or the staff members
that provide some of the most intimate cares to your loved one? While it might not be the first thing
that comes to mind, the nursing staff in long term care facilities create the atmosphere for those who
live in it. In fact, the increased turnover rates in long term care facilities has been shown to have a

For this specific study, researchers contacted administrators and directors of care facilities in Ontario
(n=619) by email and/or telephone requesting them to complete an online survey between July and
October of 2008 (Chu, Walter, McGilton, 2013). The survey included questions regarding "home
management characteristics, quality improvement activities, human resources practices and the
number of terminations in the previous year by staffing category" (Chu, Walter, McGilton, 2013).
The facilities who completed the online survey (n=191) and were willing to add their input to

profit and municipal homes" (Chu, Walter, McGilton, 2013). Of these samples, they randomly

Ontario. This time however, they reached out to staff members (both part time and full time) to

Wall. Even though the Great Wall had been started earlier most of what is seen was either built or
repaired by the Ming. The brick and granite works were enlarged, and this was a symbol of strength
and stabling which was very necessary to a successful empire. The watchtowers were also designed
and cannons were placed along the wall. Just like in the rise of the dynasty, the Military was a big
part during this time. The Great Wall was rebuilt and reconstructed for military purposes. Cannons
were added along with the watchtowers for more security and for more military power, ultimately to
show strength and for a sign that the military is indeed

Review Of The Poem 'Songs Of Chu: Li Sao'
We don't know the starting time of chili (Chinese: 辣椒) becoming a kind of food. We only heard
that Confucius didn't clear away delicacy but not that he ate chili. The number of "椒" is highest in
the Songs of Chu: Li Sao (a famous poem written by Qu Yuan) has two verses that "pimiento
alternates with cassia tree" and that "sacrifice to him with pepper wine"; Jiu Ge (a title of the Songs
of Chu), that "hold a memorial ceremony with sweet osmanthus wine and pepper wine." The
sacrificial offerings to God are also foods for human, so it makes sense that Qu Yuan, Hunanese
exactly, ate chili. However, according to the textual researchers, "pepper's fruits" in the Book of
Songs, "pemiento" and "pepper wine" in Li Sao as well as "pepper wine" in

Chinese Poetry And Chinese Literature
Chinese literature is an important literary heritages of the world. With an history for more than
thousands of years that influences people throughout the century. The Chinese language has retained
its remarkable identity in both its spoken and written aspects in spite of generally gradual changes in
pronunciation. With those syllabic tones, which produce a different but equally pleasing cadence.
This tonal feature of the chinese language has brought about an intimate relationship between poetry
and music in China. Chinese poetry were originally sung and played with instruments. Even after
the musical scores were lost, the poems were more often chanted. In order to approximate signing
than merely read it. Chinese poetry is difficult to understand and interpret, There's a hindering
meaning behind each chinese character. Translation and cultural ignorance is the two of the main
hindering of a complete understanding. This paper will compare and contrast these two collections
of poetry in order to gain a better understanding of Chinese poetry. The collections of book of odes
and the songs of Chu will be extracted and explored. Where there are lots of differences and
similarities between western Zhou period and Han/warring state period.

tendency to think of poems as elaborate creations of scholars and geneius. However, Chinese

Elizabeth Blankenship Dr. Zhai FLIT 216 September 18, 2014 Classic of Poetry and Lyrics of Chu
in Contrast Classic of Poetry or Shi Jing, China's oldest surviving collection of poetry, contains 305
poems, which are separated into three sections including the Airs of the States (feng), Courtly Songs
(ya), and Odes (song); the topics of which, respectively, concern the lives of commoners, the lives of
aristocrats, and religious rites. Shi Jing was formed during Zhou dynasty over a period exceeding
half a century, being the collected works of various folk song writers that was gathered by an
official, with input from Confucius, and then passed through the court, which lends a measure of
stylistic uniformity to the whole collection. Lyrics of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shi Jing's subject varies between its three sections with feng describing the lives and things
important to the common folk, ya dealing with political issues more of the concern of the aristocrats
both for formal and informal occasions, and song for the purpose of religious activities. Examples of
these are "Rooster Crows" from feng setting a social expectation for the interaction between married
couples through example, "Huge Rat" from ya politically satirizing misrule, and "We Have in Hand"
from song which was used for and describes the process of a sacrificial ceremony. The subject of
Chu Ci is a departure from Shi Jing's functionality as Chu Ci addresses the mystical, as it is mostly
for literary and poetic merit and involves references to and interactions with deities and spiritual
journeys. Li Sao describes Qu Yuan's spiritual journey populated with deities and "The Nine Songs"
describes gods and goddess's like "The Lord of the East" depicts a sun god comparable Apollo. Shi
Jing's lines with four characters, a comma, and then another four characters are shorter than Chu Ci's
lines which have six to seven characters then a comma followed by another six to seven

Summer Reading Assignment: Chu Ju's House By Gloria Whelan
Giovanna Mancinelli
Summer Reading Assignment
The book that I read for my summer reading assignment was Chu Ju's House by Gloria Whelan. The
theme that I chose to work with for my assignment was: The story demonstrates that conflict occurs
when people do not accept or appreciate the unique identities of others. While reading Chu Ju's
House, I found that there were quite a few instances where a character greatly changed the plot
simply by choosing to ignore or accept Chu Ju's willingness to work hard. Chu Ju's grandmother,
who she calls "Nai Nai", is a great example of this. Nai Nai only views Chu Ju as a "worthless girl,"
and she does not see that Chu Ju is almost as hard working and helpful as a son would be. It is
partially because of Nai ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the story Chu Ju has to prove many times that she can be dedicated and useful. Many of
the people she meets on her travels appreciate her hard work, such as Han Na and Yi Yi. When Chu
Ju is working at the silk farm, she uses her reading and writing skills to help her fellow workers
request better working conditions. Although making this request gets Chu Ju fired from her job, it
helps the other girls at the silk farm, and they are very grateful for what she has done. Throughout
her adventures Chu Ju always remembers her parents and grandmother, and she wonders if they now
have a son to carry on the family name. She often wishes to visit them, but doesn't get the chance to
until years after she had run away. When Chu Ju returns to her family's home, her father (Ba Ba) and
mother (Ma Ma) are very happy to see her, and don't want her to go back to the rice paddy.
However, Nai Nai is just as hostile as before, and she is incredibly suspicious of Chu Ju's success.
She says that Chu Ju is selfish she doesn't sell her farmland and move back in with her family. But
now that Chu Ju is much older and more confident, she stands up for herself and explains that she

Liu Bang's Legacy
The legacy of Liu Bang Throughout the history of China, most the emperor was from the noble
class. However, there were a few where it started as a peasant and made their way to be an emperor;
and one of the well–known peasant emperor was Liu Bang. Even though Liu Bang was born in a
poor family, he was a kind–hearted, benevolent, and an open–minded human being. Liu Bang
managed to become a successful emperor that the people were willing to obey to him because he
knew how to delegate authority, utilized his resources, listened to the opinions that were offered by
his peers. In his early years, he applied for a position for work and was appointed as the Chief of the
Sub–Township. As a Chief, he often had to report his work to the government office. After he made
several of visits, he became friends with Xiao He, who oversaw secretarial work of the county
government office. Through Xiao He, Liu Bang made friends along with other government officials
that later helped him rise during the rebellion. "Cao Shen, who was in charge of jail; Xiahou Ying,
who was a junior official; Ren Ao, who was the jail keeper" (Hung, 11).
Liu Bang was a great leader, and he knew how to uses his power. The beginning of his rebellion
against the Qin dynasty was after the death of Shi Huang–Di, Liu Bang was assigned to take the
criminals to Lishan Mountain to complete the First Emperor's Mausoleum. Liu Bang decided to take

Chinese Mother By Amy Chu Article Analysis
In the article "Chinese Mother" Chua starts up with a comparison between Chinese mothers and
western mothers. The Article is about Amy Chua expressing her opinion about the Chinese
parenting and how it can be more effective in a child's life. Chua utilizes the mode of parenting with
her two daughters and explains how this mode made her the way she is today, and that it will do as
much good, for the future of her daughters. Chu begins the article with bullet points, highlighting
the things she doesn't allow her daughters to do. She points out things like sleepovers, play–dates,
watching TV or playing computer games, as well as participating in school plays, as things her
daughters are never allowed to do. In the first paragraph, Chua says

Amy Chu Ethos Logos
In Why Chinese Mothers Are Superior, the author Amy Chua uses ethos, logos and pathos to
persuade her readers that the Chinese style of parenting is superior to the Western method; however,
I do not believe that her argument is effective.
In the case of ethos, the author is a professor at Yale University, which is a status that commands
credibility and respect. She presents herself as a Chinese mother (authority figure), who was raised
according to this method, which shaped her own parenting style to her two daughters. This,
however, makes her biased, and it is evident in many of her statements.
The author uses mostly personal experiences as evidence to support her claims. The scientific study
she mentions is an appeal to the reader's sense

A Freezer Preserves Food, yet Food Preserves a Relationship
Food provides nutrition for humans, but food has more needs than one. As Anderson says, "Venues
such as cafés, coffee shops, coffee houses, cafeterias, bars, neighborhood restaurants, and other
eateries are vital to social life," food is essential in building up human relationships (Anderson 125).
As a social necessity, food exerts itself as more than an excuse to initiate casual talk. In the films,
Tampopo and Eat Drink Man Woman, food operates as a medium to preserve human relationships
by the consumption and the physical exchange of food. Despite the two films' different urban
settings, food perpetuates parental, romantic, and student–teacher relationships. Food recalls
memories of current and past relationships, and these memories ... Show more content on

The romantic relationship persists because food generates these memories. The Man in the White
Suit's death scene indicates a desire to eat and a desire to preserve memories, and with the
preservation of memories, there exists relationships. Not only is food a perpetual reminder of past
relationships, but it is also an adhesive to glue current relationships together. Master Chu utilizes
food to connect himself with Shan–Shan. Master Chu stabilizes the relationship between Shan–Shan
and himself by preparing lunches every day for Shan–Shan. The daily interaction between the two
forms a bond that is connected by the exchange of food. The two converse with each other and
maintain their guardian–child relationship. The scene where Master Chu and Shan–Shan walk home
together holding hands shows a physical connection of their close relationship (Eat Drink Man
Woman). Master Chu transfers his feeling through the transmission of food and conserves his
parental love for Shan–Shan. Master Chu also sustains an affectionate relationship with Jin–Rong.
When Jin Rong says, "But what about the lunches I prepared for her [Shan–Shan]," Master Chu
responds, "I ate them myself, down to the last bite . . . I was more than happy to. Besides, I lost my

The Democratic Progressive Party
On January 16th 2016, The Taiwanese people will head to the polls to elect their new president from
three different candidates. The three candidates and their political parties are Eric Chu of the
nationalist Kuomintang party, Tsai Ing Wen, of the liberal Democratic Progressive Party, and lastly
James Soong of the center right People First Party. This election can be viewed as a fork in the road
for Taiwan's future. Down the right fork, with the Kuomintang and to closer economic and political
ties with the People's Republic of China towards eventual unification. Or down the left fork with the
Democratic Progressive Party, and embrace the status quo, that one day, to the fear of the mainland,
may lead to independence. The outcome of this election may greatly affect the relationship between
China and Taiwan, which is often labeled as Cross Strait Relations, but could also spill over to
China and the United States relations, due to the fact the United States has vowed to defend Taiwan
from any military aggression from the People's Republic of China. A United States – China
relationship that is already tense. This winter, not only the eyes of Taiwan will be watching the
election closely, but also China and the United States. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tsai is internationally educated having graduated from Cornell University in the United States and
the London School of Economics in the United Kingdom. One interesting aspect of her campaign is
that Tsai has a very good chance of becoming the first female president of Taiwan, and also in East
Asia as a whole. Tsai has so far ran a smooth, stable campaign. She has ran a less ideological
campaign, vowing only for keeping the status quo and not shouting for independence as the
Democratic Progressives had done in the past that is winning her support among the Taiwanese
people.
The People First Party candidate, both founder and chairman is James Soong. Soong founded the
party back in 2000, but before that Soong was a member of the Kuomintang. Thus, the party's
platform is nearly identical to the Kuomintang, and after three previous unsuccessful attempts and
running for president, more likely than not his role will only be to play spoiler to the Kuomintang,
by taking would be voters away from Chu . The People First Party is essentially very miniscule in
the election and virtually has no chances of winning.
By all accounts, people are projecting the Democratic Progressive Party to win not only the
presidency, but also take control of the legislative Yuan away from the Kuomintang. Many of the
reasons for this occurrence is a result of the Kuomintang inflicting wounds on itself. Hung Hsiu chu,
who was replaced by Eric Chu, had caused much controversy of her own. The

Persuasive Essay On How To Eat
Following the French restaurant scene, a women's etiquette class on how to eat spaghetti
appropriately takes place in an Italian restaurant. The teacher speaks to the class that they should
only catch three or four strings of spaghetti and eat them silently. However, after a westerner eats
spaghetti casually and makes a loud noise, the entire etiquette class, including the teacher, begins to
shovel the food into their mouths. At this point, the pleasure of eating food has taken place of the
eating tradition of classiness and elegance. Additionally, the film shows a man who is suffering from
a toothache because of eating too much. Even when he is feeling the pain, he is unable to resist the
temptation of dim sum on the subway, which leads him to a trip to the dental office. His tooth has
such a huge abscess that the dentist and nurses almost vomit. For the man, food brings him so much
pleasure that he breaks the boundaries of healthy eating to enjoy the food. Moreover, after the
dentist states that he should start by eating something soft, he buys an ice cream cone right away.
The ice cream attracts a kid who is forbidden from eating sweets by her mom. The man gives the ice
cream cone to the child, and the child guiltily indulges through the ice cream cone. For the child,
food also represents pleasure that breaks the boundary of healthy eating.
Moreover, for the man in white suit in the movie Tampopo, food brings about sexual pleasure. He

century. Soccer used to be a military exercise known as Tsu' Chu, which means football. Tsu' can be
further translated into 'kicking the ball with the feet'. Chu is further translated into 'a ball made of
leather and stuffed'. The Tsu'Chu exercise consisted of passing a leather ball through a small
opening. The concept of the exercise was for the player to only use their shoulder, back, chest, and
feet to pass the ball, while the other players try to block the small, one–foot–wide opening. This

Sun Tzu: The Art Of War
Throughout history humanity has constantly strived towards its own destruction through war and
petty conflict. As times change so does warfare, years ago we used to fight with swords and spears,
now combat and warfare has evolved to the point that it is not only useful for soldiers, but the
common man as well. This new era has seen much development and among these developments is
warfare, in this case corporate warfare. One man throughout the years has been teaching people, the
art of war and his name is Sun Tzu.

means. The Art of War formed the foundation of orthodox military theory in early modern China.

Use Of Multilevel Growth Analysis Used By Pinpointing...
Summary
Chu, Skriner, and Zandberg (2014) summarized the use of multilevel growth analysis used to
formulate change in anxious youth with cognitive behavior therapy and by pinpointing youth
collaborations with therapeutic alliance trajectory. In the study, counselors were able to evaluate
therapeutic alliances between the youth patient and counselor (Chu et al., 2014). While conducting
the study, they used numerous of evidence–based interventions that established short and long term
effectiveness with cognitive behavior therapy approach. In previous research, it was determined that
youth anxiety with cognitive behavior therapy has a success rate of 63%, and social impediments
prohibiting effective interventions due to lack of participation with outside intervention strategies
(Chu et al.,2014).
Basic Components
Purpose
According to Houser (2015), First, the purpose statement should identify whether the study is a
comparison among the groups of interest, and attempt to determine relationships between variables,
and attempt to determine changes over time (p.157). The purpose of this study is to examine how
youth management styles are affected with the formation and support of a therapeutic alliance (Chu
et al., 2014).
Hypothesis
Forced coping styles acknowledgment demonstrates modified reactions that the client has no control
over. Research states that "Given that CBT requires active participation by youth and willingness to

Analysis Of Jia Chien 's Influence On The International...
Jia–Chien is the middle daughter who is ambitious in advancing her career as a corporate airline
executive, having little time for her family and desiring to quickly move out of the house. Jia–
Chien's position shows how women in modern Taiwan occupy jobs in essentially all job markets, yet
the fact that she is an executive contrasts even the modern woman gender role–where women do not
typically own managerial positions (Gold 1114). Additionally, the Taiwanese airline she works for
"is expanding into new countries by acquiring new airline routes in the international market" (Dilley
48) which compares to how Taiwan desired to globalize through markets such as the United States.
However the same statement diverges from the notion that western nations are the dominant forces
in globalization and instead, the Taiwanese are now the perpetrators of globalization, exerting its
own influence on the international market. It is then revealed that Jia–Chien originally wanted to
pursue the culinary arts, actually having much talent for cooking, but in the past her father Mr. Chu
forbade her from becoming a chef and even from being in the kitchen. Mr. Chu's reasoning is that
Jia–Chien should have a better life with a university education than him, leading to Jia–Chien's
bitterness to her father and complicating their relationship. Mr. Chu's seemingly oppressive behavior
symbolizes Taiwan's traditional family values as he has power over his daughter and dictates what
she can or cannot do.

Taking a Look at Validation Models
Schemas are important validation tools which can ensure data is valid and well formed for use.
There are different varieties that can be used to verify a document and ensure conformance to
standards. Some use a tree hierarchy and others just simple constructs. Lee and Chu (2000) note the
following in their paper; DTD, XSD, SOX, Schematron and DSD. Fawcett et al (2012) mention
Schematron, DTD, RELAX NG, and XSD. I will discuss some of these in comparison to DTD and
XSD which are follow–ons from this week's Schema discussions.
DTD
This Schema type on uses attributes and elements and follows a hierarchy in structure type. It is very
simplistic and uses few attribute definitions, and does not follow XML type syntax. However,
despite its simplistic nature, it is the most widely used standard according to Lee and Chu (2000).
XSD
The true XML Schema Definition is very different from DTD in that it can be very granular in its
descriptive elements and follows XML syntax rules. This can make it very powerful, in its support
of namespaces and true data types, allowing for better conformity and use in data transformation and
query. Another strength of XML Schema is it inheritance, which can simplify some reuse of
attributes and combining of Schema documents. Its weakness goes hand in hand with its strength as
the complexity it allows for causes confusion by all but the most advanced users according to
Fawcett et al (2012).
RELAX NG
This method of validation arrived as a

The Chu Lai Massacre
Attacks stretched as far as the northern U.S. military installation, Chu Lai, down to the primary
objective in the south, Saigon. The launch of such an intricate and fierce attack caught many U.S.
commanders off guard because at the time, the potential of the Northern fighters was severely
underestimated. In the years before, Saigon acted as a safe haven for many refugees trying to escape
the horrors of war. The comfort of the city soon vanished when the North Vietnamese sent 35
battalions to seize six objectives in the capital. A few of these enemy fighters took over a
government radio station with the intention of spreading pro–communist propaganda. The North
Vietnamese believed that if they could control the transmitting tower, they could convince the
citizens of the South to riot against the U.S. forces. Fortunately for the U.S. troops, this plan was
stopped by a Lieutenant of the Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) who previously decided to

PTSD And Violence

  • 1. PTSD And Violence In examining PTSD in children and its relation to violence, researchers use various methods to extract data about specific stages of life. Lieberman, Chu, Van Horn and Harris (2011) review qualitative and quantitative data from a variety of researchers outlining the experiences of trauma in very young children (birth to age five) and initial signs of PTSD. In their research, they identify child maltreatment (including physical abuse) and witnessing violence as two of major contributors to the development of childhood PTSD, and noted that approximately 45% to 70% of children with PTSD reported an overlap between both of these experiences (Lieberman, Chu, Van Horn, Harris 2011, p. 2). Due to their limited ability to report occurrences of PTSD ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through the use of semi–structured interviews, they discerned that 18% of their sample met PTSD criteria outlined in the fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM–5). This is higher than both the rate of PTSD in Vietnam combat veterans (15%) and community–dwelling adolescents (1%) (Erwin, Newman, McMackin, Morrissey, Kaloupek 2000, p. 16). They note that despite the high rate of PTSD in violent young offenders, many of the adults employed in the criminal justice system are not trained in assessment and treatment of PTSD, leaving these youths without available help for their PTSD (Erwin, Newman, McMackin, Morrissey, Kaloupek 2000, p. 2). For this reason and others, many researchers have expressed growing concern regarding the large proportion of incarcerated adolescents with unmet mental health needs (Kerig, Vanderzee, Becker, Ward, 2012). This is particularly problematic as incarcerated youth who experience hyperarousal as a means of committing violence may experience greater exposure to stressful cues while in custody, in addition to being removed from their support networks outside of the correctional facility. They're then left in a situation that aggravates their PTSD while offering little or no assistance, potentially lengthening their stay in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Paper Tigers Response Austin Jones ENC 1101 –037 10/8/13 Yang Response In his essay "Paper Tigers," Wesley Yang discusses his own experiences as an Asian American, tying them into the larger picture of Asians functioning in American society today. Yang's argument is that even though Asian Americans are one of the most successful ethnicities in the country, stereotypes that Asian Americans are exposed to affect the way other Americans view them. Because of personal bias and racism, human society fails to see other people for who they are and put too much emphasis on what they are supposed to or not supposed to be in America today. Stereotypes cloud people's vision and judgment and keep some from achieving their goals because others have a pre–created ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The stereotype that Asian Americans just naturally have a step up above the rest that paves the path for the jealousy other ethnicities is really the result of ridiculous amounts of dedication and this group of people should be praised for their work ethic. These cram schools can be found all over Flushing, a town mostly occupied by Americans of Asian descent. In Flushing, NY lives a young Asian American writer named Jefferson Mao who wrote to Yang seeking guidance about "'being an Asian writer (535).'" This is a great example of how stereotypes are affecting people today. This young man should not have to worry about being an "Asian" writer, but attempt to be a great writer no matter what his background is. Unfortunately, not all people think this way, and the Asian community suffers because of it. For example, "Princeton sociologist Thomas Expenshade has calculated that an Asian applicant must, in practice, score 140 points higher on the SAT than a comparable white applicant to have the same chance of admission (536)." This is incredibly unfair to young Asian Americans who strive for greatness and must work harder to not only meet the standards that are required for an individual to receive admission, but to get the standards needed for an Asian to get in. An example of fair acceptance on the collegiate level would be UC–Berkley. Ten years after outlawing any "racial engineering" at the State's public ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. A Study On Chinese Mother In the beginning of the article, author Chua gives the reader a list of things that she forbidden her two daughters, Sophia and Louisa, to ever do. The list contain items such as: no sleepover, no play date, no school play, no TV nor computer, no grade less than A, no other extracurricular activities without parents approval, no other instruments beside piano and violin. Author Chua claims that this is the list "Chinese mother" would applied to create genius kids such as "math whizzes and music prodigies" (1). Moreover, she explains that "Chinese mother" do not necessary need to be Chinese, but it is more of a term to describe a very strict parenting style. Chu indicates "Chinese mother" and "Western parents" teaching styles are like night and day. She supports her theory with examples such as: the practice hour's differences between two parenting styles–three hours versus 30 minutes of practice time; "Chinese mother" would stayed hours to do homework with their kids, whereas "Western parents" are suggested that "'stressing academic success is not good for children' or that 'parents need to foster the idea that learning is fun'"(4). Chua argues that when children get good at something the tasks and exercises become fun and exciting to do although it might seem harsh in the process. Author Chua implicates that practice makes everything perfect, thus persistent is the key to success. She indicates that once the kids get compliments, respect, and contentment their confidence ... Brain scans have shown that when the patient is in pain that listening to music gives the brain more activity. With more activity the brain starts to forget about the pain and focuses on more on the music being played rather than dealing with the pain nerves inside of them. A good song can also make someone have a different perception of pain in the moment they are experiencing the pain. Another study has shown that the music can interfere with pain before it even reaches the signals The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects on humans. In the end of the test, the people who were listening to music were relieved of pain and stress already after a couple checkups, while the patients who were taking prescription pain meds could still feel the pain because their brain nerve cells for pain have not fully moved away from the thoughts of surgery or just the straight up surgery pain. • 17. Music Therapy Research Summary Music Therapy Approaches for Treatment of Agitation and Anxiety in Patients with Dementia Music Therapy Methods The studies reviewed, implemented various music therapy interventions to older adult dementia patients to examine the effects associated with agitation and anxiety behaviors. Music therapy methods used throughout the twelve studies include live presentations, pre–recorded listening activities and instrumental utilization exercises. Two studies utilized a mixed method model (Ridder, 2013; Chu, 2013). Live presentation approach. Two studies used a live presentation approach to deliver the intended music therapy (Clare, 2014; Cooke, 2010). Clare?s (2014) case study examined the effects of a live music presentation by a hired musician after four hours, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at a long term care facility. In order for the project to work, you need to assign a book with which everyone one agrees with. A book that will open people's eyes and see other lives and problems. This project is a great way to unite the community with reading. People say that young age groups don't have a connection with older age groups, but this way they have something to relate too. The community of Fort Morgan would benefit from a One/City One Book project because it can unite the community into one, the organization could create interaction between generations of the community, and it can broaden the reader's perspective. Captain Poison screamed at him "Your mothers and fathers are dead! Your brothers and sisters are dead!" As Dia and the other boys were rushed through the camp, the thoughts of his family came flooding back to him. According to the principle of resemblance, you group people who are similar in appearance and distinguish them from those who are dissimilar. For example, you would perceive members of the same race to have similar values and opinions. You would perceive people who dress similarly (for example, business executives in their gray suits) to be similar in attitudes or behaviors. However, there is one thing that we should pay attention to. That is, neither of these principles will necessarily give accurate information. Such information should only serve as hypothesis or possibilities that need to be further investigated, not as true conclusions that should be acted upon. After the organization of the sensory stimulation, we have to interpret and evaluate them, which is the third and also the most important stage of the perception process. Here, we often use the hyphenated form ¡°interpretation–evaluation¡± to identify this process for the two processes are closely related to each other and thus cannot be separated. • 50. Kinship Rules And Kinship Terms According to Ide (1989: 229), kinship terms could be used by interlocutors as an effective strategy to express politeness. Brown and Levison (1987) also have the same opinion, noting that kinship terms could be used as politeness markers because they constitute "in–group identity markers". In Vietnamese daily communication, kinship terms are not only restricted within the framework of nuclear families, such as "bố mẹ" (parents), "anh" (elder brother), "chị" (elder sister), but also varies in a very complicated list based on different criteria. According to Le (2013), there are several factors that interlocutors must base on to decide appropriate kinship terms, such as age, gender, social status, intimacy and acquaintance. However, within the family context, the hierarchical position is the most important factor determining which kinship terms will be used by interlocutors. There are two kinds of kinship terms used by Vietnamese people both inside and outside family context based on paternal and maternal kin. On the one hand, paternal kinship terms used for people relating to father's relatives, such as "ông nội" (paternal grandfather), "bà nội" (paternal grandmother), "chú" (father's younger brother), "bác" (father's elder brother/sister), "cô" (father's younger sister), "thím" (father's younger brother's wife). Nationalist movements have been present since the start of colonial rule and the eminent failure of these nationalist movements before the onset of World War Two have not gone un–noticed by historians. Summary Chu, Skriner, and Zandberg (2014) summarized the use of multilevel growth analysis used to formulate change in anxious youth with cognitive behavior therapy and by pinpointing youth collaborations with therapeutic alliance trajectory. In the study, counselors were able to evaluate therapeutic alliances between the youth patient and counselor (Chu et al., 2014). While conducting the study, they used numerous of evidence–based interventions that established short and long term effectiveness with cognitive behavior therapy approach. In previous research, it was determined that youth anxiety with cognitive behavior therapy has a success rate of 63%, and social impediments prohibiting effective interventions due to lack of participation with outside intervention strategies (Chu et al.,2014). Basic Components Purpose According to Houser (2015), First, the purpose statement should identify whether the study is a comparison among the groups of interest, and attempt to determine relationships between variables, and attempt to determine changes over time (p.157). The purpose of this study is to examine how youth management styles are affected with the formation and support of a therapeutic alliance (Chu et al., 2014). Hypothesis Forced coping styles acknowledgment demonstrates modified reactions that the client has no control over. • 138. Analysis Of Jia Chien 's Influence On The International... Jia–Chien is the middle daughter who is ambitious in advancing her career as a corporate airline executive, having little time for her family and desiring to quickly move out of the house. Jia– Chien's position shows how women in modern Taiwan occupy jobs in essentially all job markets, yet the fact that she is an executive contrasts even the modern woman gender role–where women do not typically own managerial positions (Gold 1114). Additionally, the Taiwanese airline she works for "is expanding into new countries by acquiring new airline routes in the international market" (Dilley 48) which compares to how Taiwan desired to globalize through markets such as the United States. However the same statement diverges from the notion that western nations are the dominant forces in globalization and instead, the Taiwanese are now the perpetrators of globalization, exerting its own influence on the international market. It is then revealed that Jia–Chien originally wanted to pursue the culinary arts, actually having much talent for cooking, but in the past her father Mr. Chu forbade her from becoming a chef and even from being in the kitchen. Mr. Chu's reasoning is that Jia–Chien should have a better life with a university education than him, leading to Jia–Chien's bitterness to her father and complicating their relationship. Mr. Chu's seemingly oppressive behavior symbolizes Taiwan's traditional family values as he has power over his daughter and dictates what she can or cannot do. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 146. Taking a Look at Validation Models Schemas are important validation tools which can ensure data is valid and well formed for use. There are different varieties that can be used to verify a document and ensure conformance to standards. Some use a tree hierarchy and others just simple constructs. Lee and Chu (2000) note the following in their paper; DTD, XSD, SOX, Schematron and DSD. Fawcett et al (2012) mention Schematron, DTD, RELAX NG, and XSD. I will discuss some of these in comparison to DTD and XSD which are follow–ons from this week's Schema discussions. DTD This Schema type on uses attributes and elements and follows a hierarchy in structure type. It is very simplistic and uses few attribute definitions, and does not follow XML type syntax. However, despite its simplistic nature, it is the most widely used standard according to Lee and Chu (2000). XSD The true XML Schema Definition is very different from DTD in that it can be very granular in its descriptive elements and follows XML syntax rules. This can make it very powerful, in its support of namespaces and true data types, allowing for better conformity and use in data transformation and query. Another strength of XML Schema is it inheritance, which can simplify some reuse of attributes and combining of Schema documents. Its weakness goes hand in hand with its strength as the complexity it allows for causes confusion by all but the most advanced users according to Fawcett et al (2012). RELAX NG This method of validation arrived as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 154. The Chu Lai Massacre Attacks stretched as far as the northern U.S. military installation, Chu Lai, down to the primary objective in the south, Saigon. The launch of such an intricate and fierce attack caught many U.S. commanders off guard because at the time, the potential of the Northern fighters was severely underestimated. In the years before, Saigon acted as a safe haven for many refugees trying to escape the horrors of war. The comfort of the city soon vanished when the North Vietnamese sent 35 battalions to seize six objectives in the capital. A few of these enemy fighters took over a government radio station with the intention of spreading pro–communist propaganda. The North Vietnamese believed that if they could control the transmitting tower, they could convince the citizens of the South to riot against the U.S. forces. Fortunately for the U.S. troops, this plan was stopped by a Lieutenant of the Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) who previously decided to cut all transmission to and from the government radio tower.
