responsible for the displacement of families who can't afford to live in the gentrified area anymore

Determining how high an individual sets their moral standards to oneself really comes to the surface
when you are a freshman in college living on your own for the first time. Without parental guidance,
all of the actions you do during your time attending College reflect on what kind of person you are.
Knowing and choosing the difference between right and wrong separates those who have grown
since high school and those who remain immature. The next unethical incident that occurred at PC
during my here happened early on in my second semester of sophomore year where three black
students reported beer bottles being thrown at them and claimed that they were being targeted after
being denied entry into an off campus party. The United States government describes racial/color
discrimination as, "Treating someone unfavorable because he/she is of a certain race or because of
personal characteristics associated with race such as hair texture, skin color, or certain facial
features" (U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission). There are numerous amounts of
moral values that are thought to be universal throughout the campus of PC and racial discrimination
is far from being considered ethical. After the investigation went underway, Jim Vincent and the rest
of Providence NAACP Branch got involved and wanted to put an end completely to any form of
racism. Professor Julia Jordan–Zachary, Director of Black Studies at PC, spoke with GoLocal
Providence about the incident and said, "If we're now 'investigating" what happened, historically
speaking investigation at PC of racial biases don't go well. Nothing happens. There's a deep history.
Talk to alumni, this isn't new" (GoLocal Providence). The professor went on to say that a couple of
years ago students were called, "N*****" on campus and nothing happened because the kids who
supposedly said this foul language apparently said something else. The investigation appeared to be
thorough, but the outcome of the off–campus incident showed no progress as there was not enough
concrete factual evidence to pin point the main culprits and PC failed yet again to give any serious
sanctions to anyone.

Every work of literature requires a theme for it to be worth reading. Jennifer Egan's "A Visit from
the Goon Squad" mainly presents the theme of ruin and redemption throughout the novel. This
theme is present alongside with other minor themes like the shift of American culture, and how the
characters self–centered ways are crush by time. All of the major characters will find themselves at
some sort of low point in their lives throughout the novel. Jocelyn becomes addicted to drugs and
spends a great amount of her adult life going in and out of rehab; Benny will lose his record label
contract and will be seen as a failure by most of those still in the industry; and Sasha will show
falling into ruin due to her stealing addiction, self isolation from family, and lack of self–love. The
idea of ruin and redemption is also present alongside the characters setting. Theses characters live in
a post–9/11 New York City, where the towers are destroyed, the streets and rivers are polluted, and
surveillance is amplified, making New York City reflect this theme in a mournful way. The same for

neighborhoods the world has ever seen. Amongst these neighborhoods, one can expect to find
Bushwick (Community District 4) and Williamsburg (Community District 1), nestled in in the
northern tip of Brooklyn borough. The earliest colonizers included the Dutch, French,
Scandinavians, and English farmers. Today, however, the spectrum of racial distribution has
changed drastically in which the top ethnic groups include Puerto Rican, African American,
Dominican, Ecuadorian, and Mexican, Polish, Italian, and Hasidic Jews. Both neighborhoods have
an abnormally large rate of preventable illness and death issues. Reasons as to why these districts
are facing such high illness rates could be because of language barriers, economic conditions, and
lack of a primary care physician monitoring health. Since the majority of individuals living in

The American Dream establishes a journey to achieve a goal in order to start a new life. In
"Crossing Brooklyn Ferry" by Walt Whitman, Walt Whitman illustrates the arrival to endorse a
connection with the American future. Therefore, Walt Whitman conveys the experience of arrival
using images to highlight the steps to reach the American Dream. As a result, the experience of
arrival introduces a similar goal people are trying to achieve, which connects one another.
Nevertheless, the people arriving are individuals who seek and work to find the American Dream
and settle to a new beginning. Thus, to represent the experience of arrival, Walt Whitman uses the
symbols of the ferry, the natural surroundings and the city of Brooklyn to convey the celebration of
the American Dream. The symbol of the ferry represents a journey to convey the experience of
arrival. The ferry represents the arrival to America because it establishes the beginning and end of a
journey. When people leave on a ferry to travel to a new destination they initially begin a new
chapter in their lives. Therefore, the ferry is a new way to change the perspective of a new world.
"Cross from shore to shore, countless crowds of passengers!" (103) establishes the similarities
people have of obtaining the same goal. The crowds of people on the ferry leave their home, to
come and search for a new home. Thus, the shore represents the land where people come from,
which they come from different places, but arrive together

I am reading It's Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini and I am on page 140. This book is about
Craig Gilner who suicidal. In this journal I will be questioning and
I wonder if Craig will actually jump of the Brooklyn Bridge. One answer is that he will. I think he
will because he already has a plan in his head about what to do. His plan is to leave his house around

they achieved. The residents of Brownsville used these associations to fight for better services and
counter the negative perception of their neighbors. During 1900s and 1910s religion (Judaism)
permeated the community. The area was once called the "Jerusalem of America." This goes to show
