INTRO
This paper follows the impact and significance of electronic music pioneers Kraftwerk. Beginning
with two founding members, Ralf Hutter and Florian Schneider, their classically trained
backgrounds were a contrast to their modern impact that would follow. Looking at the different
instruments used by Ralf and Florian, the rhythmic sounds they produced paved the way for
multiple genres including techno, hip–hop/electro and house, which ultimately started the electro
movement for years to come.
THE EARLY YEARS

In particular from hip–hops 1982 hit by Afrika Bambaataa – "Planet Rock" which uses samples
from Kraftwerk's songs "Trans Europe Express" and "Numbers", helped to ignite New York's electro

The song is broadly viewed as a critical connection between Seventies disco and the Dance/House

In a world of massive technological development, the expansion of the "electric sound" and the
growing cultural society behind it have led to the construction of a number of prominent digitally
devised genres seen worldwide. This new music has taken a rise of popularity at an exponential rate
and has been accepted and adapted culturally in the mass majorities of today's population. Though
the music today has its different and specific sound to it, some of the original qualities still are very
prominent in the genre of the now. To bridge the connection between the initial electronic sound and
the contemporary take on it, one could look at groups who currently practice this music, such as the
University of Pennsylvania's student DJ group dubbed "The Collectve", and compare the quality and
details of their music with artists and groups existing in the birth age of electronic music and
continuing through the its progression until the current state. This, in addition to reviewing the
global expansion and acceptance of the genre worldwide throughout the years, will collectively
work towards summarizing what EDM/house music is as a whole.
To fully understand the present forms of electronic music one must look back at the origins of the

This African term is defined as rapping or fast pace speaking. This can involve rhyming patterns or
jokingly clowning or making fun of one another. This is where America gets the term "Roasting"

At the time, British inventor, Peter Zinovieff and American Composer, Raymond Scott were both
looking into basic electronic sequencing, however it was Buchla that had the initial breakthrough.
Before then, artists were manually cutting up and splicing tape together to achieve sequences and

I was with my four other friends fulfilled with euphoria in the car waiting for the moment to get to a
place where we felt that all of our problems will be sorted. We bought the tickets weeks before the
venue and we were all counting the days back with full of excitement like little kids around
Christmas and the day had come. When we got off the road the beat of the music in the background
