Miley Cyrus Research Paper
Miley Cyrus got a jumpstart into the world of flashing lights, designer clothing, paparazzi, fame, etc.
at a very young age from her debut in the popular Disney Channel show Hannah Montana. An
article in People Magazine stated "Miley Cyrus has broken her squeaky–clean Disney image and
transformed into an outspoken, full–fledged and an oft–controversial pop star." She portrayed a
teenage girl living a double life as an average schoolgirl by day and a famous recording artist
Hannah Montana by night. To her audience she appears to be a sweet, caring, respected, beautiful
southern girl. These characteristics followed into her personal life and her fans idolized the girl they
thought they knew for many years to follow. The slow transition into the Miley her fans know and
see today began around 2012 when she chopped off all of her hair and utterly shocked her fans. ...

Hannah Montana and its craze died down a few years later, but Miley's popularity surely didn't.
After saying goodbye to Hannah Montana for good, Miley dropped the good girl act and moved on
to an edgier lifestyle. Her edgier lifestyle now includes revealing a lot more skin, constantly sticking
her tongue out, graphic performances, drugs, partying, and much more. She went from Disney star
to pop star and entered the industry of music with an entirely new view on life. Although half of her
fan base claim the "new" Miley is obscene or corrupt and the other half believe she is an iconic
element of American popular music today, Miley Cyrus's music and lifestyle impacts her audience
and fans with a proclaimed deeper meaning. I would like to inform my reader's in an unbiased way
about Miley Cyrus's performances and the hidden messages embedded within her songs in which a
lot of people over see because of the known drastic changes Miley has recently taken throughout the

Speak By Laurie Halse Anderson: Character Analysis
Melinda Sordino is known as the girl who called the cops at the end of summer party. Because of
this incident all her old friends hate her and people she does not know hate her. While all of this is
happening Melinda just try to avoid the fact that something bad happened the night of the party. She
feels that if she isolates herself from everybody thing will get better but the only way things can
truly get better is if she speaks the truth. Melinda is the main character of the book Speak by Laurie
Halse Anderson. Speak was a National Book Award Finalist, is a 2000 Printz Honor, and an Edgar
Allen Poe Award Finalist. After reading this book I can completely understand why. Her writing was
genius it was as if she understood what high school is like in society today. When Anderson says
"we fall into clans: Jocks, country clubbers, idiot savants, Cheerleaders, Human Waste, Future
Fascist of America, Big Hair Chix, the Marthas, Suffering Artists, Thespians, Goth, Shredders". You
can really connect with Anderson when she starts to talk about high school because this really
happens.
This is a very dark story. To go through a life changing event alone Melinda Sordino was tough. She
felt that the only way that she could preserver through adversity was by isolating herself from the
world and she did that by escaping to an old abandoned janitor for closet. ... Show more content on

The whole story is about Melinda Sordino Freshman year. How she processes what happened to her
at the end of Summer party. Even though she went through this alone she still stayed strong and that
is truly amazing. There is only one thing that I can say and that is that Anderson made a very
dynamic character. When I first read the book, Melinda was kind of shy she only had one friend and
she did not speak and could not really say no. The story take a turn. She speaks more, she makes
new friends and she speaks more and she speaks the truth, and says

A Comparison Of Macbeth And Patrick Stewart
Shakespeare's play, Macbeth, was made into a film by two different directors. Ian McKellen and
Patrick Stewart interpretation of Macbeth were distinct and unique yet very similar. Ian McKellen
version, an older version of Macbeth produced in 1971, was precisely what the audience would have
expected the film of Macbeth to be. On the other hand, Patrick Stewart's version produced in 2010,
is much more modern and would appeal to a younger audience.
In Ian McKellen version of Macbeth, Judy Dench, who plays Lady Macbeth, presents an
unbelievably powerful performance that truly cannot be matched. She delivers her lines with fiery
austerity, in an appropriate pacified tone which allows us to connect to her and better understand the

The dictionary defines a meme as, "an idea, behavior, style, or usage that spreads from person to

Roxanne: What Makes Our Community Better?
It is a sunny afternoon in 1996 , April 21, San Diego, California. Julie Barnes has just graduated
from The San Diego Police Academy. Ever since Julie was seven years old, she wanted to become a
police officer. When she was just seven years old, she had lost her favorite stuffed animal. The
police brought it back to her and when she saw the police, she wanted to be one. Julie said " WOW!!
Who are you?", the police chuckled, then said, "I am someone who makes our community safer."
The morning of May 30, at 9:27 AM, the family was leaving for a vacation to Hawaii, Julie's
grandparents lived there. She was extremely excited, Julie and Roxanne couldn't wait to go

Lord Of The Flies Symbolism Analysis
Lord Of The Flies In William Golding's novel "Lord Of The Flies", symbolism is a very important
element of the book, Many symbols show how the young english boys' on the island are losing their
civility slowly becoming savage. The conch is just a shell, But it does represent much more than
that, the conch is power, order, respect and civility and when it's broken, It's the loss of civilization.
The conch is first found by Piggy and Ralph when they first get to the beach. Piggy who's seen one
before at someones house said "He used to blow it and then his mum would come. It's ever so
Valuable"(11). Then later, Ralph used it to do the same thing by blowing into it to find all the boys
on the island and to call meetings later. During one of the meetings Ralph decided "I'll give the
conch to the next person to speak. He can hold it when he's speaking.' 'But–' 'look–' 'And he won't be
interrupted. Except by me.'"(31). This is one of the rules that represent respect and order. The conch
is the source of power at a meeting whoever holds it speaks, Although the rule is broken a few
times, mainly by jack when piggy has the conch, For example in chapter 9 on page 166 it says, "You
left it behind. See, clever? And the conch doesn't count at this end of the island––"(166). This part is
the fall of Jack and his tribe into savagery because they've turned their back on order and civilization
because that's what the conch represents. Even though all of this happens the rule of the

Security Versus Privacy Essay
Security Versus Privacy
As a result of 9/11, our country has been faced with a new issue: electronic privacy. The terrorists
that attacked us used our own technology against us to protect their activities from our view.
Because of this, we are now forced to make a decision between two desirable things: privacy and
national security. On the one hand, our right to privacy will ensure that our personal rights are not
violated, whereas, on the other hand, national security would allow us some comfort against the evil
in the world. What are we supposed to do? This issue, however it is decided, will have tremendous
impact on each and every one of our lives. The ruling that the government makes concerning this
issue will greatly alter the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This would eliminate the sheltering of illegal activities and allow increased, tighter surveillance of
cyberspace. Another similar solution would be to give the government a back–door into all areas of
cyberspace. Basically, that would allow them to see whatever they want, whenever they want.
Encryption technology would not have to be eliminated, but it would be required to include a
government ?back door?, so that any encryption code can be quickly broken if the need arises. A
writer for the Christian Science Monitor put it this way: ?people are willing to trade almost anything
for increased security, if they think it would make a difference? (Grier). Overall, however, this
position is held by very few people. The last solution is the one that is generally supported by those
who favor the right of personal privacy. They propose that everything should remain as it is. There
will be some minor adjustments to the current encryption technologies, but it will be allowed to
exist free of any back–doors or restrictions. In a debate of the new Anti–Terrorism Bill, Senator
Patrick Leahy stated that ?as Ben Franklin once observed, ?if we surrender our liberty in the name
of security, we shall have neither?? (Leahy). This is the position that is currently held by the Senate
on the matter of internet security.
The first side of this issue involves those people that are strongly concerned for our

Stardom Is Simply An Economic Process. Discuss.. Stardom,
Stardom is simply an economic process. Discuss.
Stardom, as a social phenomenon, has strong impacts on the society and its people. Stardom is
firstly associated with the Hollywood film system, but now it appears in all areas, predominantly in
sports, television industry and popular music industry. Shuker (2012) defines stardom in popular
music as it is "about illusion and appeal to the fantasies of the audience" and is "about talent and
creativity" as well. Without overlooking the commercial profits that it evidently generates, at the
same time, it brings benefits and detriments to both the artists and the influenced crowd. In this

Corson (1967, cited in Mäkelä 2004, p.113) stated: "For the moment, at least, eyeglasses seemed to
be not so much for seeing as for being seen". "The image of glasses as a sign of weakness or
'femininity' in men faded in the 1960s'", stated by Mäkelä (2004). Lennon's stardom brought
changes to the stereotypical ideas that the society held and re–evaluated the meaning of certain
items. Apart from the glasses, Lennon was an activist who was profoundly dedicated to pacifism.
"All we are saying is give peace a chance", said Lennon. After his got married with the famous
Japanese singer Yoko Ono, his contribution in activism and pacifism became more prominent. With
their famous movement 'Give Peace a Chance' in 1969,
Stardom often challenges the artist's process of finding their true identity. From Hannah Montana to
"Wrecking Ball", Miley Cyrus has gone through a series of dramatic changes in style and
personality. People went outrageous on her performance at VMA in 2014, questioning her
authenticity as an artist as they could not believe that she went from a role model to a latex wearing

Who Don 't Take Everything?
In today's modern society, individual's beliefs and principles are spread through a variety of ways.
Everything we understand can be derived from a friend, parent, blogger, or even a news anchor who
spread common ideologies without questioning their validity. However, in every society, there are
those who don't take everything they hear to be true. These people, known as thinkers, question
familiar beliefs and provoke thinking in a new light. Born of humble beginnings, Socrates was one
of those thinkers and thought differently than most. Most of his life was spent fearlessly questioning
the told truth and provoking new wisdom in others. A man studied by so many, Socrates based many
of his ideologies around his religion. Like Socrates, Stephen Colbert is a religiously oriented thinker
who courageously speaks out without regard for his reputation in society. Colbert also has great
patriotism for the United States as did Socrates for Classical Athens. There are obvious similarities
in Colbert's way of critical thinking and his use of persuasion, skepticism and activism to that of
Socrates.
Born in Classical Athens, Socrates was raised in a society that respected the teachings of the Greek
Gods and those who considered themselves wise. Socrates' mission "was to expose the ignorance of
those who thought themselves wise and try to convince his fellow citizens that every man is
responsible for his own moral attitudes" (Plato, iv). Socrates sought to teach the common man the

Comparison Of Macbeth And Patrick Stewart
Rupert Goold`s brilliance was on full display the way he was able to make this film Macbeth, a huge
success the way he interchanged the play's initial renaissance theme taking place in the 1600s. He
recreated the play into a more modern day version, appealing to the viewer's understanding of what's
taking place. While the characters conversed with each other in the same old school english
wordplay. What I really found fascinating was how Lady Macbeth, played by Kate Fleetwood and
her husband Macbeth, played by Patrick Stewart, dramatized their plots to steal the throne. The lust
for power portrayed by both creates suspense in the sense that most of their peers were oblivious to
their true intentions, as they go on about to eliminate anyones ... Show more content on

It's clear that Macbeth sinks deep into darkness blinded by his wife's lust for power that eventually
penetrates into him. Appearing that he only sinks deeper after the initially killing Banquo and his
family. His transformation, as he reaches closer to his desire was a change that even his wife did not
see happening. Even showing slight emotions of fear as she oversees what unfolds, especially when
all the immoral acts taken place was of her wil. His sinister appearance was enough to make me
cringe as I wonder if it was possible for a man like that to exist. The character development of
Macbeth from how he was hesitant to commit such heinous crimes to becoming a ruthless tyrant is
remarkable from the viewer's perspective of how he got to that point.
Although an astonishing film, it is not without flaws. I believe that the three witches played to much
of a foreshadowing role, too much of the storyline is given away, especially when the witches
encounter Macbeth. To me it takes away the suspense of huge events that have yet to occur. An
example would be when Macbeth approaches the witches in their home and they say to him
"Macbeth! Macbeth! Macbeth! Beware of Macduff! Beware the Thane of Fife." (Act 4 scene 1).
Revealing to him his biggest threat to the

Patrick Stewart Macbeth Comparison
Both Roman Polanski and Patrick Stewart have created their own twist to the original "Macbeth"
movie and storyline. Roman Polanski added a modern twist. He uses more modern objects such as
the chain with Jesus as his object that he sees in front of himself at the beginning of the murder
scene. He also used a very different setting than Patrick, in that the scene was in a modern
household. On the other hand, Patrick stewart stuck as close to the script as possible. His scenes,
backgrounds and costumes all connect strongly with the ideal images that Shakespeare gave us
through his writing. By having an opposite approach to the story of Macbeth, they both have a
variety of different powerful scenes within their different approaches and use a range of different
film conventions in their own ways.
There is a diversity between the symbols ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Roman Polanski's version, the major symbol is the idea of dreaming and having hallucinations. In
the modern version, Macbeth hallucinates in a couple different scenes. At the beginning of the
murder scene, Macbeth first starts his hallucinations by visualizing a dagger in front of his face. The
dagger is pointing in the direction of King Duncan's room, which foreshadows that it is almost time
for Macbeth to kill the King. After the murder of King Duncan, Macbeth starts his hallucinations
again as he was being haunted with many different nightmares. These nightmares have an affect on
both Macbeth and lady Macbeth in this scene as they both can not sleep due to what they have done.
Furthermore, these hallucinations have a specific meaning to the story of Macbeth. They symbolize
Macbeth and Lady Macbeth's idea about fear. In both versions, both Macbeth

The Theme Of Alienation In The Death Of Ivan Ilyich
In The Death of Ivan Ilyich, Notes from Underground, The Metamorphosis, Hedda Gabler, and "The
Guest", the reader is presented with an underlying theme of alienation. This state of alienation or
estrangement is seen by the isolation of certain characters from a group or activity and their loss or
lack of sympathy.
We read about alienation in Kafka's, The Metamorphosis where Gregor Samsa, the main character,
is detached physically, emotionally, and psychologically from his family, job, and society. In the
beginning of the story his transformation into an insect provides us with physical separation from
his human body. Gregor is initially unaware of his transformation and as a result society brings upon
his alienation. At the end of Gregor's "metamorphosis" he is completely detached from his
environment and feels a sense of "imprisonment" as he stays in his room with the door closed. The
only person who enters his room is his sister, Grete Samsa, and even during this time, he hides
underneath a couch to prevent communication between them. As a result of this alienation, Gregor is
unable to speak or able to taste milk, his favorite food. He feels helpless ... Show more content on

decorously, rather than attempting to create a human connection with the people he interacted with.
Ivan "shuts out" individuals from forming a connection with him and as a result he becomes
alienated himself. The separation that Ivan has created is evident throughout the story, such as his
coworkers' (lack of) response to his funeral

Sir Patrick Stewart Macbeth Comparison Essay
Macbeth is an incredibly popular Shakespeare play that has had many film adaptations. There is a
common trend in films based on Shakespeare to update the setting into a different time period, but
keep the story, characters, and dialogue the same. PBS' 2010 Macbeth adaptation is no different. The
film was directed by Rupert Goold and produced by John Wyver. Sir Patrick Stewart has the leading
role of Macbeth. Lady Macbeth is portrayed by Kate Fleetwood. This adaptation of Macbeth is set
during the events after World War II, and the Macbeths are as cruel as ever when they find
themselves in a position to gain more power. The two leading characters, who were masterfully
portrayed by Stewart and Fleetwood, were incredibly well casted. It is not surprise to see Sir Patrick
Stewart portray a good Macbeth, as Stewart was trained as a Shakespearean actor. Many of the other
characters, and the actors portraying them, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were several noticeable problems with the film. One of the biggest problems was an
inconsistency in tone throughout the entire film. In a scene where the tone was dark and serious,
they were sometimes radical tone shifts that seemed out of place and lessened the impact of the
scene. The biggest example of this is during the dinner scene with Banquo's ghost. In the span of
about five seconds, the scene goes from Macbeth being terrified of the ghost to a light hearted dance
scene. That change makes the entire scene seem a bit ridiculous and harder to take seriously. The
dance wasn't even in the original play, so the purpose of it is not entirely clear. Another problem was
the overuse of lens flares. While this is a minor complaint and it doesn't occur too often, it is still
distracting and it detracts from the film. During certain intense scenes, blue flares of light will
appear on the lens of the camera. Many times these seem to be added in digitally and the don't
appear to be coming from any light

Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window Essay
Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window
In Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window, L.B. Jeffries, played by Jimmy Stewart, becomes completely
obsessed with spending all of his waking hours watching his neighbors from his wheelchair. He
even uses a camera to better his view and thus enhances his role as both a spectator and a voyeur.
This contributes to the creation of a movie being played right outside Jeffries' window. In this
"movie within the movie" his neighbors' lives become the subject for the plot. Each window
represents a different film screen, each which is focused upon only when Jeffries directs his
attention to it. He witnesses both the anxieties associated with the beginning of a marriage and the
heartache of relationships ending. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His wife seems to whine and constantly want him to be with her in bed. Upon this observation,
Jeffries gains the perception of marriage as a physically and emotionally exhausting life.
The majority of the film deals with the events occurring within the Thorwald apartment. In many
ways the Thorwalds' marriage parallels Lisa and Jeffries' relationship, except with a reversal in
gender. Lisa and Lars Thorwald, both mobile and healthy, strive to make their respective
relationships work. Thorwald brings his wife dinner in bed decorated with a rose. She only laughs at
this gesture. On the other side, Lisa cannot even gain Jeffries attention by sitting in his lap. Mrs.
Thorwald and Jeffries, who are both physically restrained, only complain to their partners. The
Thorwald apartment becomes of particular interest when Jeffries begins to suspect murder. He
believes that Thorwald finally became so tired of his nagging wife that he butchered her with a knife
and saw. After some time he even convinces Lisa of his accusation, which in turn adds another gazer
to the rear window. This makes her more important to Jeffries in that he can now discuss what is
going on with someone who will listen. She still does not obtain his full attention until she crosses
over into the plot within the Thorwald apartment. When Lisa becomes the subject of the gaze, then,
and only then, is Jeffries attracted to her.

The Moment of Recognition in “Macbeth” and “Hedda Gabler”
The Moment of Recognition in "Macbeth" and "Hedda Gabler" The drive to succeed, to have power,
and to be in control are forceful things. So powerful that they can blind people – corrupt one's
ambitions and morals, and make them walk straight off the path of success they planned for
themselves. As seen in "Macbeth" by William Shakespeare, and "Hedda Gabler" by Henrick Ibsen
the urge for power, control, and success can overcome one's better judgement. The two plays tell a
tragic story about the characters from whom each play gets its name. For both Macbeth and Hedda

For both Macbeth and Hedda this was the case as they found themselves very deeply perplexed in
the situations they created for themselves. And as a result Macbeth and Hedda were so emotionally
detached from who they used to be. But, despite this, both Macbeth and Hedda had a moment of
recognition – a moment when they realized that what they have done cannot be undone, and they
have in fact gone too far. Without question Macbeth had gone too far in his quest for power and
nothing could justify his actions. It is not until his wife Lady Macbeth dies that he finally realized
the reality of what he has done, and of course that it cannot be undone:
She should have died hereafter;
There would have been a time for such word.
Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow
Creeps in this pretty pace from day to day
To the last syllable of recorded time,
And all our yesterdays have lightened fools
The way to dusty death. Out, out, brief candle!
Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage
And then is heard o more. It is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing. (Macbeth, 5.5 17–28).
Macbeth can see that his life has become completely empty now, and all the power he so desperately
sought means nothing – he has gone too far. Macbeth takes his life as his final chance to have
control. This is exactly Hedda's final chance for control over her life as she finds her self under the
control of her husbands

Personal Narrative Essay : The Day That Day In My Life
That Day
As I walk out the door all alone... Thud Thud I hear loud footsteps like someone was walking
towards me. I turned around and all I saw were the leaves falling off the trees and pure silence. I tell
myself I'm hallucinating. I look to my front and start walking. A mysterious man was walking
towards me. He was dressed in all black from head to toe. With his black sunglasses on, I couldn't
tell if he was looking at me. I started to shiver but he passed me. I suddenly turned around to see if
he was looking back at me. But he wasn't there anymore. I started wondering if all the things I saw

Patrick Stewart Macbeth
Director Rupert Goold created a very unconventional version of Macbeth. He gives the setting a
Soviet Union feel a makes Macbeth's character almost like Joseph Stalin in brutality and
ruthlessness. The majority of the production takes place in these underground bunkers making you
feel like they are in World War II. Goold put so much thought into this rendition of the
Shakespearean play so you can assume he out as much though as who he casted as the main roles
and how they should portray them. Some things about his character I liked, however, I did have
many complaints. Goold chose Patrick Stewart as Macbeth,Kate Fleetwood as Lady Macbeth, and
Sophie Hunter, Polly Frame, and Niamh McGrady as the three witches. Patrick Stewart is a great
actor, but I did find it hard to get past his age. He was way too old for the part and was subpar
compared to other movies I have seen him in. He plays Macbeth as a deranged psychopath were as I
see Macbeth more as an arrogant man who became drunk on power. He has obviously gone mad by
the end of the play, but Stewart's adaptation is disturbed. Stewart nevertheless brought a fantastic
element of suspense to the film. He is the best angry–sandwich–maker I have ever seen. The scenes
did drag on though. So much focus was on Macbeth creating suspense that it became dry. Lady
Macbeth, played by Kate Fleetwood did an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I appreciate Goold's attempt to attract a younger audience by making the play like a horror film, but
he went very much off the beaten path. They became distracting especially during the cauldron
scene. Nothing they were doing during that scene made any sense. The unworldly movements and
rapping was awful. I would have like the scene a bit more if the bodies would rise and say the
prophecies themselves. It was very disappointing when the witches just said them. It is one of many

Voyeurism In Rear Window
Hitchcock began his career in the early 1920s as a silent filmmaker, and rose to fame after his first
successful silent thriller, The Lodger: A Story of the London Fog (1927). As sound technology
progressed and became more accessible to filmmakers and movie theaters, Hitchcock began to work
in sound. However, for the remainder of his career, Hitchcock was profoundly influenced by what
he called 'pure cinema'. This idea represents the film medium and its affective and expressive
capabilities, unconstrained by the narratives and dialogue used to drive the storytelling process in
literature and more modern 'talkies'. Hitchcock's early mastery of the silent film medium made him
acutely aware of space, composition, blocking, and camera ... Show more content on

Next, the camera pulls back inside the window and the audience is introduced with medium close–
up shot to their sleeping protagonist, whose face is dripping with sweat. The camera then pans
towards his broken leg, encased in a white cast with the words 'Here lie the broken bones of L.B.
Jefferies'.
Despite the lack of narration or dialogue, this scene is a highly effective introduction to the film's
protagonist and the setting in which the most of the action will take place. This highly
choreographed long take discloses an impressive volume of narrative information using only visual
cues; the audience is now conscious of their protagonist's name, his broken leg, the vibrant
neighborhood where he lives, and even the summer heat that envelops the scene. The expositional
scene is an excellent example of Hitchcock's 'pure cinema' because it immediately deepens the
audience's participation in the film and gives the film a tangible quality, as if the audience were
physically standing in Jefferies' apartment and surveying the setting.
Like Hitchcock, Stanley Kubrick also began his career working outside the 'talkie' medium. He was
a talented photographer at a young age, landing a job shooting for a magazine at only seventeen.
Through his early experience with photography, Kubrick developed his infamous perfectionism and

I think my dad made a very fitting choice by choosing that attire. Some said that my father directed
the movie in a way that made it accessible to the younger generation,[2] probably because it
removes the Shakespearean stereotype of medieval clothing such as the doublet. Also, the delivery
of Hamlet was comical which appeals to the younger generation because it gives relief from
Shakespearean solemnity. My father did an exemplary job in extracting an authentic yet profoundly
discerning performance from his actors. David Tennant, known to many as "Doctor Who," gives us
a Hamlet who is brashly mad but penetrates our hearts with sorrow for his tragedy although some
argue that his ludicrousness makes his acting less genuine.[3] Patrick Stewart, on the other hand,
gives a stellar performance as King Claudius, making him shrewdly righteous and steadfast,
allowing room for King Claudius to scrupulously execute his malignancy. One outstanding aspect of
this movie is the use of mirrors and reflections which proves a challenge for my dad because there's
a risk of accidently filming the crew but he prevailed in the end, giving more brooding atmospheres
during soliloquys. It also acts as a symbol of reflection of characters' true nature. There's a part

Silver Linings Playbook Movie Analysis
In the film Silver Linings Playbook, by David O. Russel, delineates two primary characters, Patrick
Solitano Jr. also, Tiffany Maxwell, that both battle with mental clutters. Patrick Solitano, who was a
previous secondary teacher, gets his significant other in the shower with another man (the history
educator) while his wedding tune was playing, in this way in a split second getting to be plainly
vicious. Because of going wild on the history instructor, he needs to burn through eight months in a
psych ward, and is determined to have bipolar turmoil. Then again, we have Tiffany Maxwell, who
is tossed into an ocean of gloom because of a sudden auto crash that murders her better half.
Bipolar confusion, otherwise called hyper melancholy issue, is a psychological sickness that makes
people encounter temperament swings–scenes of raised or disturbed state of mind known as
madness, substituting with scenes of dejection. These sentiments of lunacy can likewise include
peevishness and rash or foolhardy basic leadership – in which Patrick Jr. shows an assortment of
cases all through the motion picture. One of which was the point at which he showed a brisk hyper
scene in the specialist's holding up room when his wedding tune went ahead, which helped him to
remember the shower episode. And additionally when we find in the start of the motion picture,
Patrick encounter animosity, which is characterized in the reading material as "the purposeful
damage of, or mischief to, someone else (Feldman, 626)" towards the history educator by

Stewart becomes heart–to–heart with the audience by openly expressing his feelings caused from
the domestic violence with the emotions "guilt" and "loneliness"(5). Normally people that suffer
from traumatic experiences like domestic violence don't openly speak about their feelings which
signifies how passionate he is about ending violence. Stewart begins to display the empathetic and
caring side to himself by proclaiming "...did nothing to deserve the violence."(4). As Stewart speaks
about how he believes his mother did not do anything to deserve the violence she endured, it proves
how much empathy he shows for his mother as well as how much he cares about others. Moreover,
Stewart shows more of his empathy and compassion for others by using pronouns like "we", and
"us"(8). By using first person plural pronouns, Stewart shows that he is not just worried about him,
and his mother's situation, he's also worried about the thousands of others that suffer due to domestic
violence. Being worried about others is the true meaning of empathy. All in all, the empathetic and
passionate tone the author adopts into the text shows more of his attitude regarding domestic
violence, not for just himself, but the entire

The Greatest Successful Child Stars Essay
"Even though HM [Hannah Montana] is chopped up into little tiny pieces and buried in my
backyard she will always hold a very special place in my heart!" Miley Cyrus captioned on
Instagram for the tenth anniversary of the TV show that made her one of the most successful child
stars in recent history. A product of Disney, Cyrus would not also be one of the most popular current
celebrities if she had not drastically altered her star text to stay relevant. Her brand management
provides exceptional insight into the continuous battle of sustaining a career as a celebrity. Child
stars must decide whether to maintain their current image and exit the industry or to debrand from
this childish appearance and rebrand for a more mature audience. The latter usually includes bolder,
controversial, and more mature behavior. Rebranding, therefore, is risky because its decoding may
result in public outcry and lost fans – potentially killing the celebrity altogether. A celebrity is more
than just an individual. As O'Shaughnessy and Stadler describe in Media and Society, they are the
sum of everything affiliated with them from carefully planned promotions to uncontrolled publicity.
Therefore, the celebrity cannot exist without the audience. The audience creates the celebrity from
their intertextual and extratextual knowledge; in other words, from the celebrity's performances as
well as external sources. Whether these two personalities connect or disconnect determines whether

Color Scheme In Patrick Stewart
In the Patrick Stewart mood movie the color scheme seem very dark. Its portrayed very dark so well
that in reminded me of prison, and as I mention prison while Macbeth is in the kitchen in a different

basic wall that sets the mood to seem as if it's a prison. There wasn't much of a color scheme,
however the colors seem very grayish and dark. There was hardly any bright colors to set the mood

Stewart worked her way through school as a part–time model. Once she graduated college she took
a job as a stockbroker. During her time as a broker she met Andy Stewart, and in 1961 they married.
She decided to leave the broker business when the stock market crashed in the 70s, and returned to
college to purse a degree in history and architectural history.
Stewart met a man named Alan Mirken at a party she had thrown for her husband. This connection
led to the creation of her first two cookbooks. With these books, a brand was born. The popularity of
Martha Stewarts cookbooks led to the publishing of a magazine in the early 90s in a partnership
with Time, Inc. As she began to develop her media brand, she decided to acquired control of her
magazine with help from former CEO and friend Sharon Patrick. This is when MSO was created.
The company was founded, in 1997 by Martha Stewart, as an umbrella for the various media and
merchandising ventures linked to the Martha Stewart brand. It went public on the NYSE in October
of 1999. The stock opened at $18 a share, but then quickly shot up to $38 a share. Martha served as

MSO's structure and corporate governance was far from ideal. In fact, it played a part in many of the

Destry Rides Again, Mr Smith Goes to Washington, and the Fall of the Hollywood Studio System
Thomas Schatz cites the 1950's as the inevitable end of the Hollywood film studio system, with the
signs appearing as early as the height of the second World War (472). However, the seeds of
discontent and disintegration within the system were apparent as soon as the late 1930's, exemplified
in such films as Destry Rides Again (1939, George Marshall) and Mr. Smith Goes To Washington
(1939, Frank Capra). The production of these two films and the paths down which they led their star
(James Stewart), directors (at least Frank Capra), and studios (Universal and Columbia,

The balance of power was thus tipped in favor of the individual filmmakers. These films also served
to launch James Stewart's career as a successful leading man (usually next to a star leading lady),
particularly in the western genre (The Man From Laramie, The Naked Spur, Winchester 73), as a
patriotic all–American (It's a Wonderful Life, again with Capra), and working with and as an
independent (his infamous contract with Universal and his work with Alfred Hitchcock, both in the
1950's). Destry Rides Again and Mr. Smith Goes To Washington also raise issues regarding the
value placed on dramatic and outright patriotic films in comparison to the value placed on films
which serve as mere entertainment. While Mr. Smith Goes to Washington is an overtly political film,
Destry Rides Again, in its own way, is highly political and both films reveal that the United States of
1939 was a politically charged nation preparing itself subconsciously to take part in a worldwide
war.
During the second half of the 1930s, Universal came under a completely new ownership. The
traditional owners, the Laemmle family, lost Universal at this time after leading it up and down the
mountains and valleys of success and failure. The new owner, J. Cheever Cowdin, set up Robert H.
Cochrane and Charles R. Rogers in charge of Universal. They kept the company going, sometimes
by thin margins, until the very end of the 1930s

The Narrative Techniques Used by Hitchcock in Rear Window
L.B. Jeffries is a high–class magazine photographer for what seems to be a worldwide publication.
In Alfred Hitchcock's 'Rear Window', he is a temporarily wheelchair–bound man and his voyeuristic
side appears later on in the film.
'Rear Window' depicts a 20th century New York in which fraudsters, murderers and salesmen all live
alongside each other. The story describes a man who broke his leg during a photography assignment.
He is, for the time being, stuck in a wheelchair with nothing to do but look at the neighbours
through his 'Rear Window'. He hasn't seen the light of day since seven weeks ago.

This also shows that it is the start of the story. The window fills the whole frame of the shot. This is
a good way of setting the scene for the viewers. Old–style joyous jazz music is played at the start – a
good way of portraying happy times. The opening scene in Rear Window has no dialogue, leaving
even more of the viewers in a pool of anticipation. The scene highlights the fact that every single
thing in the film will be seen through that particular window.
Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window is a great example of first–rate camerawork. The camera is used as
the narrator and probably plays the biggest role within the film. At the start of the film, the camera is
used to pan around every single apartment within the inner city New York apartment block to
introduce the characters. Although the characters do not speak, they still play a major role in the
film. Alfred Hitchcock puts the viewers in the position of L.B Jeffries, making us all voyeurs. The
camera is used to tell the story, as there is very little dialogue in the film. Throughout nearly all of
the film, only one shot is used to tell the story, there are very few cuts. By doing it this way,
Hitchcock is showing us exactly what the character is seeing.
The cast of Rear Window includes Jimmy Stewart, the lovely Grace Kelly, Thelma Ritter, and

Newscasters' current view of balance is to report both sides of an issue, despite the consequences.
Straightforward news has descended into a wacky belief that replaces balance for accuracy and

Virtually every matter can be described as a debate between two conflicting sides, and the journalist
is apprehensive of expressing that one side has it right, and the other side does not. It leaves the

Literary Foils In Hedda Gabler
Hedda becomes more and more obsessed with controlling people as the play unfolds, gaining
momentum on her manipulative actions until her intense fear of society and judgement (scandal)
paralyzes her. Throughout the play, the author Ibsen, alludes to Heddas instability through her
subtexts and the contradiction between her thoughts and actions. Ibsen's use of literary foils
highlights Heddas weaknesses, revealing her true nature of cowardice. Building up to her ultimate
demise, brought about between the collision of [her lack of] control and fear. Hedda Tesman has
many visitors over the couple of days that we see of her life. But a frequent visitor that seems to
leave a lasting impression is Judge Brack, an older man that is held with high respects by all. He has
power in the community and is able to either put people at ease, or ruin their lives. His powerful
position in town and the fact that he's a man gives him almost a cloak of protection, no one expects
the old Judge to be a dog. But no matter what other people think about Brack, they aren't able to see
what he does behind closed doors. Multiple times throughout Hedda Gabler, Ibsen makes a point to
have the Judge enter the Tesman's home through the garden–– the back way. He isn't afraid to flirt
with Hedda and make cruel remarks about George, Hedda's husband, inside, knowing that he won't
get in trouble and Hedda won't tell. Ibsen gives Brack this power so that he is easily able to get
under Heddas skin. A reflection of herself, who she wanted to see in herself, someone disgusting.
Brack is given the freedom walk around and explore as he pleases, he even sneaks around at the
Tesman's house with no fear of being caught or getting reprimanded. He is able to use Heddas fear
of being controlled against her, and in the end she gets played right into his hands. Where Hedda is
trapped in a marriage and forced to stay inside all day and tend to the house, Brack has no
expectations of getting married and may come and go as he pleases.
Although Brack's character isn't completely necessary to this play, Ibsen still made him an important

Descriptive Essay On An Abandoned House
"Hurry or you'll be late!" called my mother from the bottom of the stairs. "Today of all days you
want to be on time." If I had only known what that day would bring, I would have stayed in bed. But
one thing my mom didn't know was that my friends and I skipped school to go look at an abandoned
house. The house was also supposedly haunted.I met up with my friends at the bus stop as usual.
Once everyone was at the bus stop, we ran as fast as we could to the abandoned house. So we
wouldn't get caught be the bus driver or anyone else.
Once we ran for a short amount of time we finally saw the rundown house in the distance. Once we
got a little closer we saw a brown fence blocking our path. We walked around the fence until we
found a small opening. It was just big enough for us to get through. Once we all got through the
fence we could barely see the house, because the grass and weeds were so tall. We pushed our way
through the weeds and grass and finally made it to the back of the house. We tried to look through
the filthy windows, but they were boarded up. Before I opened the door, I asked everybody "Do we
really want to do this?" Alexis being the brave one said "Just do it." Jada is the scared one asked
"Are we really going to do this?" And me being the curious one I wanted to see what was inside the
house. Once we got in the house we felt a cold burst of air.
We started walking around the dark and gloomy house with our phone flashlights on. We stopped in
are tracked when we heard a noise coming from the back of the house. We started walking towards
the back of the crummy house until we saw a dark figure walking towards the stairs. Jada saw the
dark figure and froze. Alexis and I had to pull her into the dirty closet so the figure wouldn't see us.
When we thought the coast was clear we peaked out the closet to see if the figure was still there.
While we were in the closet, my shoe made an obnoxious noise on the I ground. Terror filled inside
me when I heard the creaky footsteps of the figure. When we heard the footsteps get louder and
louder. We decided to run for it. I opened the closet door and to my surprise, I saw the figure at the
end of the stairs. The figure made eye contact with me and ran towards

Miley Cyrus Research Paper

  • 1. Miley Cyrus Research Paper Miley Cyrus got a jumpstart into the world of flashing lights, designer clothing, paparazzi, fame, etc. at a very young age from her debut in the popular Disney Channel show Hannah Montana. An article in People Magazine stated "Miley Cyrus has broken her squeaky–clean Disney image and transformed into an outspoken, full–fledged and an oft–controversial pop star." She portrayed a teenage girl living a double life as an average schoolgirl by day and a famous recording artist Hannah Montana by night. To her audience she appears to be a sweet, caring, respected, beautiful southern girl. These characteristics followed into her personal life and her fans idolized the girl they thought they knew for many years to follow. The slow transition into the Miley her fans know and see today began around 2012 when she chopped off all of her hair and utterly shocked her fans. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hannah Montana and its craze died down a few years later, but Miley's popularity surely didn't. After saying goodbye to Hannah Montana for good, Miley dropped the good girl act and moved on to an edgier lifestyle. Her edgier lifestyle now includes revealing a lot more skin, constantly sticking her tongue out, graphic performances, drugs, partying, and much more. She went from Disney star to pop star and entered the industry of music with an entirely new view on life. Although half of her fan base claim the "new" Miley is obscene or corrupt and the other half believe she is an iconic element of American popular music today, Miley Cyrus's music and lifestyle impacts her audience and fans with a proclaimed deeper meaning. I would like to inform my reader's in an unbiased way about Miley Cyrus's performances and the hidden messages embedded within her songs in which a lot of people over see because of the known drastic changes Miley has recently taken throughout the course of her ... • 3. Speak By Laurie Halse Anderson: Character Analysis Melinda Sordino is known as the girl who called the cops at the end of summer party. Because of this incident all her old friends hate her and people she does not know hate her. While all of this is happening Melinda just try to avoid the fact that something bad happened the night of the party. She feels that if she isolates herself from everybody thing will get better but the only way things can truly get better is if she speaks the truth. Melinda is the main character of the book Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. Speak was a National Book Award Finalist, is a 2000 Printz Honor, and an Edgar Allen Poe Award Finalist. After reading this book I can completely understand why. Her writing was genius it was as if she understood what high school is like in society today. When Anderson says "we fall into clans: Jocks, country clubbers, idiot savants, Cheerleaders, Human Waste, Future Fascist of America, Big Hair Chix, the Marthas, Suffering Artists, Thespians, Goth, Shredders". You can really connect with Anderson when she starts to talk about high school because this really happens. This is a very dark story. To go through a life changing event alone Melinda Sordino was tough. She felt that the only way that she could preserver through adversity was by isolating herself from the world and she did that by escaping to an old abandoned janitor for closet. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The whole story is about Melinda Sordino Freshman year. How she processes what happened to her at the end of Summer party. Even though she went through this alone she still stayed strong and that is truly amazing. There is only one thing that I can say and that is that Anderson made a very dynamic character. When I first read the book, Melinda was kind of shy she only had one friend and she did not speak and could not really say no. The story take a turn. She speaks more, she makes new friends and she speaks more and she speaks the truth, and says ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart interpretation of Macbeth were distinct and unique yet very similar. Ian McKellen version, an older version of Macbeth produced in 1971, was precisely what the audience would have expected the film of Macbeth to be. On the other hand, Patrick Stewart's version produced in 2010, is much more modern and would appeal to a younger audience. In Ian McKellen version of Macbeth, Judy Dench, who plays Lady Macbeth, presents an unbelievably powerful performance that truly cannot be matched. • 17. Lord Of The Flies Symbolism Analysis Lord Of The Flies In William Golding's novel "Lord Of The Flies", symbolism is a very important element of the book, Many symbols show how the young english boys' on the island are losing their civility slowly becoming savage. The conch is just a shell, But it does represent much more than that, the conch is power, order, respect and civility and when it's broken, It's the loss of civilization. The conch is first found by Piggy and Ralph when they first get to the beach. Piggy who's seen one before at someones house said "He used to blow it and then his mum would come. It's ever so Valuable"(11). Then later, Ralph used it to do the same thing by blowing into it to find all the boys on the island and to call meetings later. During one of the meetings Ralph decided "I'll give the conch to the next person to speak. He can hold it when he's speaking.' 'But–' 'look–' 'And he won't be interrupted. Except by me.'"(31). This is one of the rules that represent respect and order. The conch is the source of power at a meeting whoever holds it speaks, Although the rule is broken a few times, mainly by jack when piggy has the conch, For example in chapter 9 on page 166 it says, "You left it behind. See, clever? And the conch doesn't count at this end of the island––"(166). This part is the fall of Jack and his tribe into savagery because they've turned their back on order and civilization because that's what the conch represents. Another similar solution would be to give the government a back–door into all areas of cyberspace. Basically, that would allow them to see whatever they want, whenever they want. Encryption technology would not have to be eliminated, but it would be required to include a government ?back door?, so that any encryption code can be quickly broken if the need arises. A writer for the Christian Science Monitor put it this way: ?people are willing to trade almost anything for increased security, if they think it would make a difference? (Grier). Overall, however, this position is held by very few people. The last solution is the one that is generally supported by those who favor the right of personal privacy. They propose that everything should remain as it is. There will be some minor adjustments to the current encryption technologies, but it will be allowed to exist free of any back–doors or restrictions. Stardom is firstly associated with the Hollywood film system, but now it appears in all areas, predominantly in sports, television industry and popular music industry. Shuker (2012) defines stardom in popular music as it is "about illusion and appeal to the fantasies of the audience" and is "about talent and creativity" as well. Without overlooking the commercial profits that it evidently generates, at the same time, it brings benefits and detriments to both the artists and the influenced crowd. • 23. Who Don 't Take Everything? In today's modern society, individual's beliefs and principles are spread through a variety of ways. Everything we understand can be derived from a friend, parent, blogger, or even a news anchor who spread common ideologies without questioning their validity. However, in every society, there are those who don't take everything they hear to be true. These people, known as thinkers, question familiar beliefs and provoke thinking in a new light. Born of humble beginnings, Socrates was one of those thinkers and thought differently than most. Most of his life was spent fearlessly questioning the told truth and provoking new wisdom in others. A man studied by so many, Socrates based many of his ideologies around his religion. Like Socrates, Stephen Colbert is a religiously oriented thinker who courageously speaks out without regard for his reputation in society. Colbert also has great patriotism for the United States as did Socrates for Classical Athens. There are obvious similarities in Colbert's way of critical thinking and his use of persuasion, skepticism and activism to that of Socrates. Born in Classical Athens, Socrates was raised in a society that respected the teachings of the Greek Gods and those who considered themselves wise. Socrates' mission "was to expose the ignorance of those who thought themselves wise and try to convince his fellow citizens that every man is responsible for his own moral attitudes" (Plato, iv). Comparison Of Macbeth And Patrick Stewart Rupert Goold`s brilliance was on full display the way he was able to make this film Macbeth, a huge success the way he interchanged the play's initial renaissance theme taking place in the 1600s. He recreated the play into a more modern day version, appealing to the viewer's understanding of what's taking place. While the characters conversed with each other in the same old school english wordplay. What I really found fascinating was how Lady Macbeth, played by Kate Fleetwood and her husband Macbeth, played by Patrick Stewart, dramatized their plots to steal the throne. Even showing slight emotions of fear as she oversees what unfolds, especially when all the immoral acts taken place was of her wil. His sinister appearance was enough to make me cringe as I wonder if it was possible for a man like that to exist. The character development of Macbeth from how he was hesitant to commit such heinous crimes to becoming a ruthless tyrant is remarkable from the viewer's perspective of how he got to that point. Although an astonishing film, it is not without flaws. I believe that the three witches played to much of a foreshadowing role, too much of the storyline is given away, especially when the witches encounter Macbeth. To me it takes away the suspense of huge events that have yet to occur. An example would be when Macbeth approaches the witches in their home and they say to him "Macbeth! Macbeth! Macbeth! Beware of Macduff! Beware the Thane of Fife." (Act 4 scene 1). Revealing to him his biggest threat to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He also used a very different setting than Patrick, in that the scene was in a modern household. On the other hand, Patrick stewart stuck as close to the script as possible. His scenes, backgrounds and costumes all connect strongly with the ideal images that Shakespeare gave us through his writing. The dagger is pointing in the direction of King Duncan's room, which foreshadows that it is almost time for Macbeth to kill the King. After the murder of King Duncan, Macbeth starts his hallucinations again as he was being haunted with many different nightmares. The Theme Of Alienation In The Death Of Ivan Ilyich In The Death of Ivan Ilyich, Notes from Underground, The Metamorphosis, Hedda Gabler, and "The Guest", the reader is presented with an underlying theme of alienation. This state of alienation or estrangement is seen by the isolation of certain characters from a group or activity and their loss or lack of sympathy. We read about alienation in Kafka's, The Metamorphosis where Gregor Samsa, the main character, is detached physically, emotionally, and psychologically from his family, job, and society. In the beginning of the story his transformation into an insect provides us with physical separation from his human body. At the end of Gregor's "metamorphosis" he is completely detached from his environment and feels a sense of "imprisonment" as he stays in his room with the door closed. There is a common trend in films based on Shakespeare to update the setting into a different time period, but keep the story, characters, and dialogue the same. PBS' 2010 Macbeth adaptation is no different. The film was directed by Rupert Goold and produced by John Wyver. Sir Patrick Stewart has the leading role of Macbeth. Lady Macbeth is portrayed by Kate Fleetwood. This adaptation of Macbeth is set during the events after World War II, and the Macbeths are as cruel as ever when they find themselves in a position to gain more power. The two leading characters, who were masterfully portrayed by Stewart and Fleetwood, were incredibly well casted. It is not surprise to see Sir Patrick Stewart portray a good Macbeth, as Stewart was trained as a Shakespearean actor. Many of the other characters, and the actors portraying them, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There were several noticeable problems with the film. One of the biggest problems was an inconsistency in tone throughout the entire film. In a scene where the tone was dark and serious, they were sometimes radical tone shifts that seemed out of place and lessened the impact of the scene. The biggest example of this is during the dinner scene with Banquo's ghost. In the span of about five seconds, the scene goes from Macbeth being terrified of the ghost to a light hearted dance scene. That change makes the entire scene seem a bit ridiculous and harder to take seriously. The dance wasn't even in the original play, so the purpose of it is not entirely clear. Another problem was the overuse of lens flares. While this is a minor complaint and it doesn't occur too often, it is still distracting and it detracts from the film. Lisa and Lars Thorwald, both mobile and healthy, strive to make their respective relationships work. Thorwald brings his wife dinner in bed decorated with a rose. She only laughs at this gesture. As sound technology progressed and became more accessible to filmmakers and movie theaters, Hitchcock began to work in sound. However, for the remainder of his career, Hitchcock was profoundly influenced by what he called 'pure cinema'. Despite the lack of narration or dialogue, this scene is a highly effective introduction to the film's protagonist and the setting in which the most of the action will take place. This highly choreographed long take discloses an impressive volume of narrative information using only visual cues; the audience is now conscious of their protagonist's name, his broken leg, the vibrant neighborhood where he lives, and even the summer heat that envelops the scene. During her time as a broker she met Andy Stewart, and in 1961 they married. She decided to leave the broker business when the stock market crashed in the 70s, and returned to college to purse a degree in history and architectural history. Stewart met a man named Alan Mirken at a party she had thrown for her husband. This connection led to the creation of her first two cookbooks. With these books, a brand was born. The popularity of Martha Stewarts cookbooks led to the publishing of a magazine in the early 90s in a partnership with Time, Inc. As she began to develop her media brand, she decided to acquired control of her magazine with help from former CEO and friend Sharon Patrick. This is when MSO was created. The company was founded, in 1997 by Martha Stewart, as an umbrella for the various media and merchandising ventures linked to the Martha Stewart brand. It went public on the NYSE in October of 1999. The stock opened at $18 a share, but then quickly shot up to $38 a share. Destry Rides Again, Mr Smith Goes to Washington, and the Fall of the Hollywood Studio System Thomas Schatz cites the 1950's as the inevitable end of the Hollywood film studio system, with the signs appearing as early as the height of the second World War (472). However, the seeds of discontent and disintegration within the system were apparent as soon as the late 1930's, exemplified in such films as Destry Rides Again (1939, George Marshall) and Mr. Smith Goes To Washington (1939, Frank Capra). The production of these two films and the paths down which they led their star (James Stewart), directors (at least Frank Capra), and studios (Universal and Columbia, respectively) are evidence of the decline of the studio system. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The balance of power was thus tipped in favor of the individual filmmakers. These films also served to launch James Stewart's career as a successful leading man (usually next to a star leading lady), particularly in the western genre (The Man From Laramie, The Naked Spur, Winchester 73), as a patriotic all–American (It's a Wonderful Life, again with Capra), and working with and as an independent (his infamous contract with Universal and his work with Alfred Hitchcock, both in the 1950's). Destry Rides Again and Mr. Smith Goes To Washington also raise issues regarding the value placed on dramatic and outright patriotic films in comparison to the value placed on films which serve as mere entertainment. While Mr. Smith Goes to Washington is an overtly political film, Destry Rides Again, in its own way, is highly political and both films reveal that the United States of 1939 was a politically charged nation preparing itself subconsciously to take part in a worldwide war. During the second half of the 1930s, Universal came under a completely new ownership. The traditional owners, the Laemmle family, lost Universal at this time after leading it up and down the mountains and valleys of success and failure. The new owner, J. Cheever Cowdin, set up Robert H. Cochrane and Charles R. Rogers in charge of Universal. They kept the company going, sometimes by thin margins, until the very end of the 1930s ... Jeffries is a high–class magazine photographer for what seems to be a worldwide publication. In Alfred Hitchcock's 'Rear Window', he is a temporarily wheelchair–bound man and his voyeuristic side appears later on in the film. 'Rear Window' depicts a 20th century New York in which fraudsters, murderers and salesmen all live alongside each other. The story describes a man who broke his leg during a photography assignment. This is a good way of setting the scene for the viewers. Old–style joyous jazz music is played at the start – a good way of portraying happy times. The opening scene in Rear Window has no dialogue, leaving even more of the viewers in a pool of anticipation. The scene highlights the fact that every single thing in the film will be seen through that particular window. Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window is a great example of first–rate camerawork. The camera is used as the narrator and probably plays the biggest role within the film. At the start of the film, the camera is used to pan around every single apartment within the inner city New York apartment block to introduce the characters. Although the characters do not speak, they still play a major role in the film. Alfred Hitchcock puts the viewers in the position of L.B Jeffries, making us all voyeurs. The camera is used to tell the story, as there is very little dialogue in the film. Throughout nearly all of the film, only one shot is used to tell the story, there are very few cuts. By doing it this way, Hitchcock is showing us exactly what the character is seeing. The cast of Rear Window includes Jimmy Stewart, the lovely Grace Kelly, Thelma Ritter, and ... Newscasters' current view of balance is to report both sides of an issue, despite the consequences. Straightforward news has descended into a wacky belief that replaces balance for accuracy and truth. Virtually every matter can be described as a debate between two conflicting sides, and the journalist is apprehensive of expressing that one side has it right, and the other side does not. It leaves the audience in the position of having to consider opposing factual assertions, often without enough info to properly choose that one side is clearly right, and the other side is striving to create doubt with propaganda. Interpretation An interpretation of the show reflects that many viewers consider Stewart a reputable, true journalist who provides a genuine take on current events. Many watchers obtain their news and opinions from his show. Comparing the show's news outline with that of the more conventional news media and investigating the listing of guests and segments, then placing the program into some kind of media framework shows the structures are quite similar. • 76. Literary Foils In Hedda Gabler Hedda becomes more and more obsessed with controlling people as the play unfolds, gaining momentum on her manipulative actions until her intense fear of society and judgement (scandal) paralyzes her. Throughout the play, the author Ibsen, alludes to Heddas instability through her subtexts and the contradiction between her thoughts and actions. Ibsen's use of literary foils highlights Heddas weaknesses, revealing her true nature of cowardice. Building up to her ultimate demise, brought about between the collision of [her lack of] control and fear. Hedda Tesman has many visitors over the couple of days that we see of her life. But a frequent visitor that seems to leave a lasting impression is Judge Brack, an older man that is held with high respects by all. He has power in the community and is able to either put people at ease, or ruin their lives. His powerful position in town and the fact that he's a man gives him almost a cloak of protection, no one expects the old Judge to be a dog. But no matter what other people think about Brack, they aren't able to see what he does behind closed doors. Multiple times throughout Hedda Gabler, Ibsen makes a point to have the Judge enter the Tesman's home through the garden–– the back way. He isn't afraid to flirt with Hedda and make cruel remarks about George, Hedda's husband, inside, knowing that he won't get in trouble and Hedda won't tell. Ibsen gives Brack this power so that he is easily able to get under Heddas skin. A reflection of herself, who she wanted to see in herself, someone disgusting. Brack is given the freedom walk around and explore as he pleases, he even sneaks around at the Tesman's house with no fear of being caught or getting reprimanded. He is able to use Heddas fear of being controlled against her, and in the end she gets played right into his hands. Where Hedda is trapped in a marriage and forced to stay inside all day and tend to the house, Brack has no expectations of getting married and may come and go as he pleases. Although Brack's character isn't completely necessary to this play, Ibsen still made him an important enough character to come into enter and influence multiple scenes. If I had only known what that day would bring, I would have stayed in bed. But one thing my mom didn't know was that my friends and I skipped school to go look at an abandoned house. The house was also supposedly haunted.I met up with my friends at the bus stop as usual. Once everyone was at the bus stop, we ran as fast as we could to the abandoned house. So we wouldn't get caught be the bus driver or anyone else. Once we ran for a short amount of time we finally saw the rundown house in the distance. Once we got a little closer we saw a brown fence blocking our path. We walked around the fence until we found a small opening. It was just big enough for us to get through. Once we all got through the fence we could barely see the house, because the grass and weeds were so tall. We pushed our way through the weeds and grass and finally made it to the back of the house. We tried to look through the filthy windows, but they were boarded up. Before I opened the door, I asked everybody "Do we really want to do this?" Alexis being the brave one said "Just do it." Jada is the scared one asked "Are we really going to do this?" And me being the curious one I wanted to see what was inside the house. Once we got in the house we felt a cold burst of air. We started walking around the dark and gloomy house with our phone flashlights on. We stopped in are tracked when we heard a noise coming from the back of the house. We started walking towards the back of the crummy house until we saw a dark figure walking towards the stairs. Jada saw the dark figure and froze. Alexis and I had to pull her into the dirty closet so the figure wouldn't see us. When we thought the coast was clear we peaked out the closet to see if the figure was still there. While we were in the closet, my shoe made an obnoxious noise on the I ground. Terror filled inside me when I heard the creaky footsteps of the figure.
