4. Notice the hit counter at the bottom of the
page. This keeps track of the number of
people that connect to the page.
5. Step 2
To get to the classified section, click on the
classified button at the top of the page.
Please see the picture on next page. The
arrow is pointing to the correct link.
6.
7. Step 3
Opening the classified section will take you
to the categories page.
8. The major categories listed at this time are:
1. Products – Items people wish to sell
2. Services – Professional services
3. Wanted – Items people wish to buy.
4. Trade – Items that people want to trade.
5. Events – Local events of interest.
9. Each major category is subdivided into
smaller descriptive categories that further
define the item. New categories and
subcategories can be added as needed,
and I welcome any comments or
suggestions that may improve the quality of
the page.
10. The “entries” column tells how many items
are entered under that category. The “last
entry” column gives us the date of the entry
and user name of the person who created
the last entry. The next screen shot shows
this page.
11.
12. Step 4
To view the individual ads, simply select
the ad type you are interested in and click
on it. For the purposes of this
demonstration we will chose ammunition.
The entries column tells us that there
should be six ads for ammunition listed.
Please see the screen shot on the next
page. The arrow is pointing to the link for
ammunition.
13.
14. Clicking on the ammunition link will bring up
a list of all the ammunition ads. Each entry
will have a price, label, and date to the right
of the description. If the price was not
included when the ad was created this
section will be blank. The label tells us the
type of the ad. The date gives us the date
the ad was placed and the user name of the
person who placed the ad.
15. Step 5
Notice that some ads have a picture and
some only have a blank space with a
camera in it. If a picture is included, you
can click on it, and it will be enlarged to
give you a better view of the item.
16. To see the details of the ad and the contact
information, click on the picture or the
camera next to ad you wish to examine. We
will chose the top ad, which is indicated by
the arrow.
17.
18. At this point we can see all the details
(contact info, price, and other details) of the
ad. The screen shot on the next page
displays this ad. You now have only to
contact the owner of the item and arrange
to meet him to make the exchange.
19.
20. PART 2 – PLACING AN AD
METHOD 1
There are two ways you can place your ad
on the web page. The easiest way is to
simply send an email to me that contains
the information you wish to post. When I
place the ad on the site, I will reply to the
email telling you that it is on the site. At this
point you should check the ad and notify
me if any changes need to be made.
21. METHOD 1 (cont.)
When you wish to remove the ad you must
notify me and I will remove it. The
disadvantage in using this method is that
you cannot make changes to your own ad.
I must do it for you, I will be happy to do
this, so if you wish to use this method, my
email address is gfbj@peoplescom.net
22. METHOD 1 (cont.)
We can also include a picture with the ad.
If you have a picture of the item and want
to include it just attach it to the email, and I
can put it on the web page. If you do not
have a picture the web page will display a
blank space with a camera in it. However,
each image is limited in size to 200 KB and
only .PNG or .JPG file types may be used.
23. METHOD 2
If you prefer to have more control over your
ad you can place it on the web page
yourself. The following is a step by step set
of instructions about how to do this.
24. Step 1
In order to place your own ads, you must
first create a user name and a password.
To do this connect to the web page and
click on the link that says “create an
account.” the screen shot on the next page
shows this link indicated by an arrow.
25.
26. This will open the user registration page,
which is shown on the next page.
27.
28. Step 2
Fill in the required information. All
information with a red asterisk beside is
required. When you have finished, click the
register button, which is indicated by an
arrow on the previous page. Next close the
web page and check your email.
29. When you click the register button the
server will send you an email. It may take a
while to receive the email, so at this point it
might be a good idea to leave the computer
and check it later. When you receive the
email, you must click on the link in the email
that asks you to confirm your registration.
30. Step 3
After you have completed registration, go
back to the Hawks web page, select the
classified section, enter your new user
name and password, and click log in. The
next screen shot displays the following
page. The log in button is indicated with the
arrow.
34. Step 4
Now to place the ad, click on the new entry
link, which is shown by the arrow on the
next page.
35.
36. Step 5
Chose the category for the ad you want to
place by clicking the down arrow in the
category display box. After you have
selected your category click the continue
button. The screen shots on the next three
pages show these steps. We will chose
guns to finish this demonstration.
37.
38.
39.
40. Step 6
You should now be at a screen with a
series of text boxes on it. Fill in the
information that you wish to include. None
of this information is required, so only
include the information that you think is
necessary.
41. I recommend that you not include a physical
address, but be sure to include a way for the
potential buyer to contact you. An email
address and/or phone number should be
sufficient.
42.
43. When you have added the necessary
information click the continue button, which
is at the bottom of the page. This is shown
on the next screen shot.
44.
45. Step 7
The final page for your ad is now open.
The first thing you need to do on this page
is to select a label. If you are selling
something, you should select the "for sale"
label. Select the "for sale" label from the
drop down box as depicted on the next
page.
46.
47. Next fill in the rest of the information
(headline, text, condition, and price). The
software will require that you include a
headline, and something in the text box,
but you can leave the condition and price
blank if you want to. If you have a picture of
the item stored on your computer, you can
add it at this time. You can include up to
three images. Please see the screen shot
on the next page.
48.
49. Please notice that there is limit on the size
of each file. The max file size is 200 KB.
Also the software can use only a .JPG file
or a .PNG file.
50. If you are using an Adobe product it will not
work with this software, because the default
file type for Adobe is a .PDF file. However,
there may be a work around for this issue,
and if you will contact me I may be able to
get the image included.
51. If you do not have an image to include with
your ad, that is OK. The software will
create a blank space with a camera in it.
After you have included all the information
you want to include, you should click save.
The software may take a few minutes to
load your information on the server, but
when it is finished your ad should be
installed.
52. A screen shot is shown on the next page
with an arrow pointing to the save button.
You can also see information about the file
types and file sizes permitted.
53.
54. You need to log off and disconnect from
the web site then reconnect to view your
ad. You do not need to log on to view your
ad or any of the other ads on the page.
However if you wish to modify or delete
your ad you will have to log on with your
user name and password.
55. THE END
This concludes the presentation for using
the classified section of the web site. Once
again, I am open to any recommendations
or suggestions as to how we may improve
the quality of this web page. My email
address is gfbj@peoplescom.net.
