Music Magazine Survey Analysis
1. Music Magazine Survey Analysis
Question 1
I asked this question so I could get an
idea for my reader profile. There is an
equal split on ages 12 to 17 and 16 to 24 at
23%. The highest age range is 25 to 34 at
33%. Therefore, I will be aiming my magazine
at that target age.
Question 2
My research found that the majority of music
magazine readers are female at 70%. There is a
gender imbalance here as some magazines
are not aimed at both genders. However, I’m
looking to market my magazine at both genders
as it’s going to be a memorabilia issue.
2. Question 3
I didn’t expect this result as I didn’t
think pop was so popular. 46% of responses
showcased that pop is still prominent in todays
music. I will be aiming my magazine at pop
and will be taking it back in time to the 90’s.
Question 4
My results on layout of a magazine saw Q
magazine take the lead at 33%. It shows
that people like clear, concise layouts that
are simple but effective. I will take this into
consideration when designing my magazine.
3. Question 5
I asked this question because it gives an
indication on how often people purchase
magazines and how often. I found that
1-2 music magazines a month was the
most popular at 58%. It showed me that
people are more likely to be buying
magazines more monthly than weekly.
Question 6
The reason I asked this question is because
people with diverse taste in music might enjoy
a number of different music magazines. I found
pop, indie and alternative music are the popular
genres an individual listens to. I will use this to pitch
my ideas towards my magazine.
4. Question 7
How much a music magazine costs determines
the types of readers they will get. I found that
readers are happy to pay £2-£3 on a monthly
magazine with a percentage of 46%. My research
showed me people spend more money on weekly
magazines ranging from free to £3 with an overall
percentage of 39%. However, I found that £4-£5 a
month was popular at 20%. I will be pitching this
price of my magazine as I’m doing a memorabilia
magazine.
Question 8
Subscription to a magazine gives an
indication on loyalty. However, what I found
is the readers still prefer print based
magazines with the percentage at 46%.
This is surprising as we have so much
technology to allow different platforms to
project these magazines. I will be aiming
to have mine print based as it’s the popular
choice if they were to subscribe.
5. Question 9
I was really surprised with this research and
found that readers prefer UK based, Up &
coming artists. It shows that International
stars dominate the majority of UK magazines.
My magazine will be based on popular which
readers saw an interest at 20%. However, I’m
using UK based artists.
Question 10
This question is important as you need to
get the audiences insight to publish a
successful magazine. I found that articles
are the pinnacle of any magazine. 37% of
readers buy a magazine for it’s interviews
and they like exclusives at 16%. This shows
that the magazine wouldn’t be successful
without these. However, all the features are
important as it wouldn’t be worth producing
a magazine.
