2. The mise-en-scene itself helps to
attract the audience by creating an
image which appears to be a more
intimate/seductive pose with
relaxed facial expressions. Along
with dark eye make up to fit the
genre of indie/rock and to also make
her eyes stand out. Her costume is
barely seen but what can only be
seen is a black jumper with spikes on
the shoulder which is all done
specifically to draw in the genre and
therefore draw in and address the
target audience.
3. I used various ways to attract my target demographic such
as using direct mode of address to engage the audience by
creating a virtual, closer relationship with the artist thus
breaking the fourth wall within media. Being influenced by
a well known and successful magazine, ‘Q’, I followed the
same pattern of using an extreme close up shot for my
front cover to attract the same niche audience.
Direct mode of address
Extreme close up shot
Female artist to appeal to
women and also to men in
regards to the male gaze
theory
Multiple rings/black nails to
present indie/rock style to
the audience
4. The colour theme is mainly red, grey, black which is generally rock
colours, as I concluded this from researching Rock magazines. It is
used to reflect the audiences personality to allow them to connect
with the magazine. Also the font and colour, red, of some of the
typography was done as it is a bright colour which stands out on a
sepia background. This immediately draws the audiences eye on
what is says and makes them interested in it. For example:
They see that they cannot
find this elsewhere which
gains their attention giving
exclusive offers which are
known as superlatives.
These can act as a unique
selling point. (USP)
This tells them it is a known
magazine and is placed just above
the logo to work together in terms
of promotion and being
identifiable to the audience.
5. Images were an immediate attraction as in my
questionnaire, most people wanted more
imagery. In addition, images could also influence
the audience as they would imitate the clothing
and styles used which can be identified as being
an aspiration to women. I also realised that the
posture played a big role in terms of how it is
interpreted by the audience as every individual
have their own understanding of images.
6. The use of language can address the audience as it is informal with
words such as “smashing” and “roars”. My images were influenced by
Rihanna who is a very known artist among the target
audience, therefore I thought they could relate to the image when
seeing the similar posture and props used in my images. I tried to
achieve this look as not only did it look appealing but it also anchors
my genre with the facial expressions and colour scheme.
