Compare And Contrast Mariah Carey And Mariah Carey
How Two Completely Different Artists: Britney Spears and Mariah Carey changed Pop Music? One
is the Pop Princess, one is the ultimate diva of all time, how can I put the two together to write an
essay? Their music may sound miles apart but their influence and impact on the pop music scene is
surely on the same par. At the end of the 80s, in the heydays of Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, a
new artist emerged from, well practically nowhere, she's Mariah Carey, since her debut, she scored
more hits and sold more records than any other artist yet her impact on the pop music remains rather
obscured. So in this first part of my essay, I'm going to reflect on her legacy by writing about her
key influence and contributions to music. Whether did comparison came naturally from her and
Whitney Houston because they are so vocally alike and Houston is her only rival that can be
compared to Carey at the time period, or because of her many disadvantages in her live
performances, Carey has been a target for criticism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She wrote or co–wrote all of her number one songs but one – a cover the Jackson 5's hit song I'll Be

history only behind Paul McCartney and John Lennon. Two of her songs that she have co–written
have been named the Song Of the Decade – We Belong Together and One Sweet Day with the latter
reigning on top of the Hot 100 for 16 weeks, setting the record for the longest running #1 song of all
time. Also, her song Hero was named by many critics as the one of the most inspiration song of all
time thus proving the prowess and how strong is Carey's

William Carey Essay
The Mission was initially started to fulfill "The Great Commission" of Matthew 28:19.
Approximately 50 years ago a few Church leaders wanted to end the mission. Since that time the
number of missionaries and finance has increased higher than ever. The Missionary is one called by
God and sent by the church "to serve God in a culture, or geographic location most likely different
from their own. According to Genesis 12:1–3 God's mission was known to the Israelites, but they
chose not to follow the Abrahamic Covenant. Goyim meaning group of people with distinct
political, ethnic, or territorial identities, as a nation or people, i.e. non–Israeli (Isaiah 11:1; 12:4).
Israel was labeled as "am". William Carey was called the father of Modern Missions for two
reasons. One reason was his prolific letters and pamphlets, writing in support of World Mission
outreach. The other reason was Carey's development of a functioning structure for deployment of
Missionaries. Around 1970 the Presbyterian Missionaries started Theological Education by
Extension (TEE) this was a precursor to online classes. The initial use of the TEE system was to
prepare pastors for rural churches.
Development of leaders was initially accomplished by one–on–one or trainings in small groups.

Returning To The World, By Barbara Carey
In Barbara Carey's poem "Returning to the World," a girl tries to get away from her troubles by
isolating herself on the fire escape. The poem teaches us that in order for a person to understand
their problems and become courageous, they must take a break from everything around them. Carey
uses metaphor, imagery and personification to express this idea. Firstly, the metaphors show that
being by yourself and thinking can be very beneficial. In the poem, it describes the light as being
"frayed" (17) and "nibbling at the end of its single cord" (18–19). This demonstrates that the girl is
very stressed and "nibbling at the end" (18) shows that the girl is becoming anxious, urging to get
out and be alone. Later in the poem, the girl becomes more

Women's Music Essay
For nearly thirty years, popular culture has been an ever transforming mosaic of human flesh, or
more specifically female flesh. While it has been known for decades that "sex sells", this statement
has taken on bizarre, and at times offensive aspects. It seems that the more modern we become, the
more sexually explicit and objectifying media content becomes. This fact remains true across
multitudes of media formats; today everything from vacuum cleaners to toothpaste is madly exciting
by sex appeal. Ask any senior citizen about the content of television in past generations and you will
likely hear them describe modern programs as inappropriate, even vulgar. Perhaps the perversion of
sexuality and the objectification of women in the media ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first Mariah Carey Video I chose was You'll Always be My Baby. I chose this video for two
reasons. First and foremost, it was one of Ms. Carey's first hit singles and second, it deals (as do
most pop songs) with love. I thought that by choosing a song about love I might get to see some of
the more explicit video segments that the early 1990's had to offer. My hypothesis was far from
supported as this video showed relatively few stereotypes, and the sexual objectification of the
female main character (Mariah herself) was non existent. The video details a childhood romance
that faded, but the fact that first loves always hold a special place in one's heart. While both Mariah
and the adolescent girl she is played by are dressed relatively conservatively and are, for the most
part, not sexually objectified, certain stereotypes persist. For one the video only shows Mariah in
settings of leisure activities, she is rocking back and forth on a tire swing or is shown reminiscing
about her lover to her diary over candle light. Even the young Mariah is shown in this way, doodling
in a notebook as her adolescent boyfriend serenades her from outside the window. The boy on the
other hand is shown briefly playing sports and then studying (before sneaking out his window to
serenade Mariah).

Freedom of Expression and Rap Music Essay
Many issues have come up regarding what rights and actions are protected under the First
Amendment. Rap music should not be restricted on the television despite much controversy over the
idea. Bok says that some acts cause debates, although people may disagree with it doesn't mean it
should be taken away. There should be no restrictions held against playing of rap music. Music that
we listen to constructs the sound track of our lives. The number one killer in creative speech is
censorship. Censorship in music is a topic that has brought about much controversy in the past two
decades. "Preventing or punishing speech?is a clear violation of the First Amendment." (Censorship.

(Zhar). Lawrence states that ?Blacks and other people of color are skeptical about the argument that
even the most injurious speech must remain unregulated because, in an unregulated marketplace of
ideas, the best ones will rise to the top and gain acceptance.
If the music is found to be so bad, then why are the parents not using the channel blocker on the
channels that allow the music. Deciding what children should see and hear in my opinion is a
parent's chore and right to decide, not the governments. ?As long as gratuitous violence and sex
aren't being seen with Saturday morning cartoons, then what we have now is fine. When parents
choose to ignore the ratings that are displayed on CD's, movies and television shows, and their
children view or hear something graphic, it is the parents fault not the artist's. There is no doubt that
everything we hear and see in the media isn't going to rub us the right way but, that's the beauty of
the first amendment? (Mariah Carey). Like Kilbourne states kids are easily influenced by what they
hear and see.
Not all rap music is about swearing, degrading woman and so forth. Many songs actually have
meanings that the rappers try to portray to people. When artists create music that is senseless it can
cloud people's judgment towards the music type they are representing. A lot of rappers rap about
cars, jewelry, sex, and murder and refer to themselves as "keeping it real". So many people believe
that rap music is based

Paul Carey Leadership
According to Paul Carey, "You can take the worst person in the organization and find ways to
engage or excite them to make them a better employee and after you do this across the entire
organization you entire organization will go up" (P. Carey, personal communication, March 24,
2017). This shows that leaders have the power to improve their followers and transform them into
confident people. As a leader, if you do not perform well and help your employees strive to be the
best your organization will have issues and employee's attitudes will be negative. Even if you do not
have a leadership title there are ways to have people follow your lead but you can't be fake. As you

Plagiarism In Hero By Mariah Carey
Plagiarism– the act of using another person's words or ideas without giving credit to that person: the
act of plagiarizing something (An Ecylopedia Britannica Company). Plagiarism or academic
integrity is a well–known issue that has evolved with students and their schooling. Not only are
college students involved in this act at unprecedented rate, but students in high school and middle
school are as well. Unintentional plagiarism can be performed unbeknownst to the student. This can

There were two copyright plagiarizing cases against this particular song. Two by Christopher
Selletti and another by Rhonda Dimmer. Both cases took place in 1993 and 1996. Selletti claimed
that he presented the song "Hero" in the form of a poem to someone named Sly Stone. Sly and
Selletti lost contact over the years causing Seletti to perform a "poor man's copyright." This
consisted of Seletti mailing himself a copy of his own lyrics. Selletti came across Carey's version of
"Hero" on the radio three years later and realized the lyrics were similar to his. Carey provided
proof to prove her innocence in court, by providing a notebook with the song dated back to
November 20, 1992. The song was intended for the use of a soundtrack for a film called Hero.
Selletti's attorney then provided proof that Carey completed the lyrics prior to the October 1992
release date of the film. Due to that fact that proof was brought forth to the court, the judge
dismissed the case against Carey. Many years later Selettie used a different attorney and tried to sue
Carey again. In all efforts, the judge dismissed the case. Rhonda Dimmmer claimed that the lyrics to
the same song "Hero" was similar to hers of the song titled "Be Your Own Hero". In Carrey's
defense, Afansiefff stated that Carey and he wrote the song in two days in the summer of 1992.

Jim Carey Research Paper
After Jim Carey had read numerous books written by Eckhart Tolle, he came to the revelation that it
is our thoughts that are responsible for our own suffering. If we as humans suffer, it is we as humans
that allow the suffering to take over their very own happiness as said by Jim Carey in his video. Jim
Carey then had a revelation that he was not just a speck in the universe he was the whole universe.
This in itself is an ideology of the New Era. Jim Carey even used a quote from the Buddha scripture
which states: "That one's own spirituality is relieving suffering." I do realize that there are those who
dwell in their own self pity, and do not feel that there is nothing positive in life to live by, yet I find
that these type of people

A missionary can be defined as someone who is sent to spread Christianity throughout the world or
do other religious works. There have been several influential missionaries in modern day America
such as William Carey, George Müller, David Livingstone, Lottie Moon, and Amy Carmichael.
These people have dedicated their lives to reaching out to others and have inspired many people to
become missionaries. Each one of them has impacted the world in a different way. William Carey
was an English Baptist missionary. He was born on 17 August 1761 in Paulerspury, England. As a
child he was known for his ability to learn languages. He even taught himself Latin. Later in his life
he learned Greek with the help of a local villager. Carey had many ... Show more content on

Carey however was not convinced so he challenged people at a minister's meeting by asking if it
was a Christian's duty to spread the gospel throughout the world. In response John Collet Ryland
said "Young man, sit down; when God pleases to convert the heathen, he will do it without your aid
and mine." The man's son, Carey's friend, denied that his father made the comment. In 1789 Carey
became the main pastor of a church in Leicester. A few years later he published an enquiry that had
five different parts. In part one he used scripture in order to convince people that they had a duty as
a Christian to spread the gospel throughout the world. The second part contained the history of
missions. Part three was just statistics in order to show how many people need to be reached. The
fourth part covered the dangers and struggles one might face as a missionary. The fifth part talks
about the need for a Baptist Mission Society and how it could possibly be supported. After this
pamphlet was made Carey preached a sermon about missionaries where he used his most famous
quote: "Expect great things from God; attempt great things for God." On October 1792 Carey,
Andrew Fuller, John Ryland, and John Sutcliff participated in the founding of the Baptist
Missionary Society. While looking for missionaries they could support and ways to earn funds,
Carey found a medical missionary named Dr. John Thomas who was in England raising funds. Not

The Mariah Carey Christmas Special 2014
The concert that I have selected for my review is the Mariah Carey Christmas special 2014. The
concert took place on December 16 at the beacon theater in New York City and it lasted for
approximately an hour. The concert opened with a performance by a ballerina with classical music.
Then followed by the entrance of Mariah Carey, who was at the center of the stage. The visual of the
concert I have to say personally was amazing and impressive, it had a big Christmas tree in the back
and background with the stars and snowflakes hang from the ceilings, very Christmas like to me.
Her band was dressed in white; she had backup singers and a choir right behind her. She began her
concert with the famous Hark! The Herald Angels Sing / Gloria, personally I was moved by the way
she sang that song, it was moving, it provokes many emotions to me, however this is a song that has
a lot of high notes and it was very hard to hear her voice because she was not able to sing it the way
she did. Although she did not preform this song like she used to, I have to admit that it made me cry
a little, it such a beautiful song and even though she made have sang it under peach, I appreciated
her voice and she was still able to make the song her and put a lot of emotions to it. She seemed to
be singing under notes in other songs that she performed as well. The rhythm was very smooth and
the melody was on point, she was able to hit with a soft approach the lower pitches, however when
it came to the high

considered a good thing. We are now connected to others like never before. Many different types of
computers are currently used in education, the workforce, and entertainment. It has revolutionized
the way we do things forever and this is extremely evident in some teen's entertainment of choice:

Sometimes students have to blow off some steam and just have fun. In the article "Shooting In the
Dark" by Benedict Carey, taken from the New York Times, Carey states that video games may cause
less real life murders and mass shootings because the games allow people to act how they want
without hurting actual living people. "It could be that the games provide "an outlet" that satisfies
violent urges in some players – a theory that many psychologists dismiss but that many players
believe. Or the two trends may be entirely unrelated." (Carey, 2013, p.2) People that are angry or
feel like acting violent can now do so outside of the real world and they can hurt people that are not
real. Instead of actually killing the person that gamers are mad at, they can kill people that don't
actually exist. This allows the world around us to be safe and many would be murderers to be
rational. Carey goes on to write how the games actually cause a decrease in crime. " Violence rates
are seasonal, generally higher in summer than in winter; so are video game sales, which peak during
the holidays."(Carey, 2013, p.2) In fact, in the article "Violent Video Games May Stop Crime By
Keeping Criminals Busy Playing Violent Video Games." Evan Dashevsky says that as violent video
games become more popular, violent crimes decrease. Dashevsky states: "The crime rate in the US
has sharply decreased as video games have continually upped the viscera factor."(Dashevsky, 2013,
p.1) Instead of committing crimes when they are bored or feel like acting out, teens now have a

Describe how "The Seventy–Five Million Campaign" affected the Southern Baptist Convention.
The Seventy–Five Million Campaign was the Southern Baptist effort to raise $75 million for various
Baptist causes during the five years spanning 1919–1924. It initially began to strengthen Baptist
education, but evolved into a campaign to aid all Baptist causes. The SBC appointed a Campaign

Second, the Baptist churches also experienced a spiritual renewal with baptisms exceeding more
than any other time before which led to thousands of young women and men stepping forward for
Christian service. As young people stepped out in faith, Baptist schools saw an increase in
enrollment which led to an influx of young, new pastors and church ministers. Fourth, the campaign
also brought about a spirit of unity which gave new and broader vision to possibilities of Baptist
work. Lastly, Baptists generally became more aware of the importance of stewardship which led to
many churches to adopt a budget system to manage local church finances.
What is the Cooperative Program and what does it do? Discuss the effectiveness of this program.
In 1920, the SBC developed the Conservation Committee to preserve the funds that were collected
from the Seventy–Million Campaign. In 1925, this Committee launched the Cooperative Program to
continue in meeting the financial needs of the convention. The program called for churches to send
their offerings directly to their state conventions where each state would retain a portion for their
own needs and the rest would be forwarded to the SBC office in Nashville. Leaders insisted that this
mechanism was both scriptural and fair.
The success of the program was dependent on trust, mutual confidence, and for churches to forego

Carey Christian School
Is William Carey Christian School a "Health Promoting School"? – by Lara Munahe
William Carey Christian school is a school that promotes and struggles to promote certain aspects of
health. Some examples of promoting health are the healthy canteen options and sporting criteria.
William Carey's canteen is healthy and unhealthy in some retrospect's. It has a wide variety of
healthy and unhealthy foods. Unfortunately it had a larger variety of junk rather than healthy. Foods
like ice creams, hot food and sugary drinks create a big percentage of the items available on the
menu and contribute to the unhealthiness of the school. There is however some good adjustments
done by the school as they have recently added sushi to the menu as an option for lunch.
William carey has a good quantity of education that talk about physical health. The subjects in

Qualities Of Mariah Carey
Mariah Carey's reputation as a diva Mariah Carey (b. 1970) is one of the most worldwide famous
and best–selling female singers in pop music industry who has been on stage since the early 1990s.
As a pop diva Mariah has earned a contrasting reputation. The pop star can be considered as an
extraordinarily talented person who with the power of her voice can "convey the emotional nuances
of the music to her audience" (Moohan, 2008, 163) and has extravagantly behavior and claims.
Among the essential factors which allowed Mariah Carey to gain her diva status there is a complex
of qualities: her significant voice, her songs authorship, image development, presentation in video
clips and on the media. First of all, it is important to point out that the singer possesses an
exceptionally beautiful voice, high soprano (Vincent, 2017), with the ability to sing in an
outstanding way as she can reach the higher notes than most of other singers. Her "husky speaking
voice" presents a profound contrast to her high singing voice, that consequently creates, as recorded,
"a vocal range spanning five octaves" ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

mother in her desire for building a career as a singer. Later, at the age of 23, Mariah Carey married
her Columbia Records boss Tommy Mottola, 20 years her senior, who had seen the young singer's
potential to become a top–star. Their meeting marked Mariah's rise to fame as he turned out to have
made her "career development a top priority" (Rollingstone, 2017). So Carey's marriage to a

According to Merriam–Webster, there are different things that are classified as a culture. In
particular, I believe that culture is defined as "... the characteristic features of everyday existence (as

As seen in my personal narrative, one can conclude that my culture is African American,
Metropolitan with Appalachian influences, and low income. For instance, in my personal narrative, I
mentioned that my mother was singing to Mariah Carey. Mariah Carey is a famous American pop,
soul, and R&B singer. I also made statements such as "Butterscotch and Coco" to refer to a family
member. Moreover, I also stated that I live near downtown Lexington where there is nothing but
eccentric local stores, night clubs, art galleries, Rupp Arena, Triangle Park, and more. There are no
hills, mountains, or really anything of Appalachia in Lexington, Ky. In addition, the closest thing
that I have of Appalachia is my maternal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In particular, I truly and deeply connected with Chris Holbrook's short story New–Used. For
instance, there is a scene in the novel where the main character is describing how he father is
behaving as he is watching his father grocery shop, the character states that "At first his father
paused before each self, comparing the brand names of the items to the WIC coupons" (Holbrook
58). This particular quotes from the short story called, New–Used, really resonates with my culture
because sometimes my mother had to use certain government assistance programs such as food
stamps to ensure that my basic needs were met. Additionally, I got older I noticed that my mother
was not particularly comfortable in public when using government assistance. Specifically, many
African Americans and low–income families have to rely on government assistance to make ends

The Bible By The Poisonwood Bible
Midterm
Movies and books about missionaries haven't portrayed missionaries in a positive light. Fiction
writers and movie producers have led people on to believe, that missionaries are self–serving and as
having specific intentions. One of the prime examples of misrepresenting a missionary; is the book
called The Poisonwood Bible. I had to read The Poisonwood Bible in an English class.
The Poisonwood Bible is the story of a missionary named Nathan Price and his family. Nathan was
Reverend and he was mean to his wife and children. Nathan and his family lived in the Congo. He
was disrespectful to his wife and his children were terrified of him. I remember reading the book
thinking, how does he represent God?
Missionaries are sent out to cross cultural barriers and spread the gospel. Missionaries are not sent
too foreign countries to destroy or to break the people down. Missionaries have faced scrutiny,
because of the negative of missionaries in movies and in books. There some positive movies made
about missionaries.
Jesus was the perfect missionary. Jesus went to different places and taught the word of God. Jesus
drew people unto him. Jesus told his disciples, that if they follow him, he would make them
fishermen of men. Jesus taught anywhere. Jesus delivered the word so profoundly.
Jesus was from the lineage of Abraham. God made a covenant with Abraham to make him the father
of many nations. According to Matthew Jesus was the Messiah for all people. When Jesus became

Mariah Carey Biography
Mariah Carey made plenty of albums, videos, movies and she also produced a lot of number one
singles throughout the years (Wellman 61). She was born on March 27,1970 and lived on long
island (Wellman 15). To me, she is a very successful singer who makes a lot of money, travels to a
lot of exciting places, and also her voice is amazing. She "was born in Huntington, Long Island, New
York and grew up in New York".(Biography.com). "In July 2001, Carey was admitted into a New
York–area hospital and put under psychiatric care after suffering what her publicists called a
"physical and emotional collapse" (biography.com) "Starr convinced Carey to bring along one of her
demo tapes" (Biography.com). "Mariah Carey was born in Long Island, New York".

Carey How We Learn
Chapters 6–8 in How We Learn was an interesting read. Carey presented a list of influential
psychologists and researchers (2014). My first key question is based on the reading of Karl Duncker
and Norman Maier. Maier and Duncker emphasize that incubation happens mentally, jolting people
to create solutions (Carey, 2014, p. 123). Although they've bought light to incubation, a question
addressing the how still hasn't been answered (Carey, 2014). Carey provides an example of a person
at a stadium in a life–changing situation with two guards and a hungry lion (2014). The person is
forced with a tough decision, to differentiate which guard is truthful and which one is not (Carey,
2014). The dilemma is labeled as a "famous problem in math logic" however, the problem does not
involve mathematics (Carey, 2014). The example could cause one to ponder for minutes, perhaps ...

In the 1920's, Psychologist Kurt Lewin began studying a behavioral theory centered on how
elements of personality differed in social interactions (Carey, 2014, p. 135). Generally, he met his
students outside of school and during later hours at a café close to campus (Carey, 2014). One night,
Lewin and Bluma met at the café and they noticed that none of the waiters used a pad to write down
orders, they memorized them instead (Carey, 2014). Once the tab was paid, the order was erased
from memory and some of the waiters could recall orders for at least 30 minutes, sometimes longer
(Carey, 2014). Both Lewin and Zeigarnik hypothesized that "perhaps unfinished jobs or goals linger
in memory longer than finished ones" (Carey, 2014, p. 136). After the experience, Bluma completed
a study that focused on the memory difference between an interrupted activity and an uninterrupted
one (Carey, 2014). She found that "being interrupted at the 'worst' time seems to extend memory the
longest" (Carey, 2014, p.

Mariah Carey Tragic Hero
one were to compare olden day greek mythology to this modern day world, one would find that lots
of people fit the mold of a tragic hero.Mariah Carey sadly fits this mold the best. If one's to compare
her life story to the many ancient greek tragic hero characters one would see that her story follows
the path of a tragic hero. She has most of the traits of a tragic hero, from high birth,
journey, character flaw, hubris, to her downfall that is seen on the media today. Mariah Angela Carey
was born into a family of singers. Her mother was an opera singer and her father was a music
teacher. She is the youngest of 3 children. Her mother started teaching her how to sing at the age of

George Carey Leadership
Maxwell also makes an emphatic statement when he says that 'Everything rises and falls with
leadership.' This bold statement would suggest that leadership plays a significant part in determining
the success or failure of anything and everything – whether it is in a home, in a business, in an
organization, in a church or in a nation. Supporting this thinking and in the context of the Christian
community, George Carey talks about the importance of leadership and attributes the growth of a
Church (and the people in it) to effective leadership, suggesting that when entities succeed, it is not
due to happen–chance but to visionary leadership, whilst the converse can also be attributed to poor
leadership.
If leadership is as critical as described above by virtue of its impact on the well being of people and
the society, it therefore becomes imperative that we identify the tools that can be used in developing
effective and godly leadership. Finney, writing in the late 80's, states that 'every survey of churches
has shown the importance of leadership, yet, until recently, there has been little attempt by
Christians to think carefully about the skills and attitudes which leaders require'.
This paper critically explores the role of mentoring as a tool for developing effective leaders in the

William Carey Wilberforce
The efforts to limit or prohibit the practice of sati had been made by British officers around the late
18th century, but without the assistance of the East India Company. The first official ban of sati was
imposed in 1798, in the city of Calcutta only but the practice stilled continued in other regions of
India. At the end of the 18th century, the evangelical church in Britain, and its followers in India,
started to promote their movement against sati. William Carey and William Wilberforce were the
leaders of these campaign. They introduced Indians to Christianity due to their love for the Indian
people. The East India Company felt as if they were pressured into banning the act of sati by these
movements.

Mariah Carey's 40th birthday Party
Singer Mariah Carey's 40th birthday was celebrated in grand style. She was jetted off to Barbados
by hubby Nick Cannon to romantically ring in the big '4'. Whispers on the Bay, a high–end beach
side restaurant wined and dined the couple and close to a dozen friends for the occasion. Live
entertainment provided the backdrop to a lavish dinner which included salmon, lamb and Angus
beef complemented by Dom Perignon.
The hard working crooner shared her favorite cake, transported all the way from New York with her
guests. Cool breezes caressed the guests, and balloons floated in the air to make the atmosphere
relaxing and rejuvenating for Mariah. After a few hours, the couple shared some intimate moments
strolling on the beach reliving the experience.

The Power Of Music In Whitney Houston's When You Believe
Music has the unique power to influence the attitudes and actions of a person. Whether it is used as
a source of hope and soulful reflection on past struggles, like in Whitney Houston's When You
Believe, or to draw strength and determination to Olympians in Vangelis' Chariots of Fire, music
can provide spiritual, inspirational or hope–filled meaning. In order to inspire and motivate year 12
students, the electrifying Chariots of Fire is clearly a superior choice compared to the spiritual and
soulful When You Believe. This is evident through the analysis of timbre, dynamics and expression
and pitch. Through the manipulation of the musical element timbre, it is clear that Chariots of Fire is
the favoured selection to inspire and motivate seniors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Chariots of Fire, the consistent ascending and descending movement in the melodic contour,
heard at 0:34–0:50, represents the highs and lows of success, where it is common to 'get knocked
down' (seen in the descending phase) and 'bounce back' (seen in the repeated ascension of the
melody). This encourages students to be persistent to achieve success. When You Believe also has
this wave like contour, highlighted at 1:50–2:05. Unlike Chariots of Fire, this movement gradually
ascends during the climaxes of the piece, creating a sense of uplifting hope and celebration rather
than inspiration and motivation required. When You Believe contains melismas and passing notes,
evident at 1:00–1:20. Whilst this does provide diversity to the piece, the piece loses stability.
Dissimilarly, Chariots of Fire does not include this manipulation. This lack of 'embellishment'
successfully grounds the piece, conveying a sense of drive and determination, motivating students to
work hard. Furthermore, When You Believe has a wide range and register, heard at 2:12–2:25. The
use of the high register adds a 'dream like' and free quality to the piece, not suited to the grounding
of senior students. Dissimilarly, Chariots of Fire has a medium range and middle register
successfully grounding the piece, useful when attempting to motivate senior students. Additionally,
the chord progressions throughout Chariots of Fire portray a sense of unity and strength, through the
use of block chords. This has not been achieved in When You Believe, where the chords are broken
into 3 quavers (evident in bars 2–5), producing a smoother and more subdued mood. The slow
harmonic rhythm created by the Db sustained pedal portrays a sense of endurance and reliability,
both linking to the physiognomies of the characters in the movie and the

Do you see a problem in the world? Do you have the passion to change it? If you have heard the
term, 'teen activism,' the definition of it is "Youth activism is youth engagement in community
organizing for social change." There have been many times when people have wanted to change the
world (or, in other words, was an activist.) You may know Faye Carey or Bianca V. These teenagers
are activists who saw a problem that they could change and made huge differences. Their cause was
animal abandonment. In this text, you will see what they did to make a difference outside their
community, or even country. Faye Carey You have probably gone to a pound with so many dogs
waiting to be adopted, or seen stray animals left on the side of the road. Faye saw this issue, and her
compassion made her start looking into it deeper, and ended up helping dogs way outside of her
community. One of the most significant things that Faye Carey did was she advertised many dogs,
and many of them were adopted. In the article, "Teenage Girl is Dogs' Best Friend," it emphasizes,

Essay on Helling V. Carey
1. Introduction Rarely any physician intends to harm patients when he or she provides treatment to
them. Patients see physicians and specialists in full faith that they will get help with a condition.
What complicates the patient–doctor relationship is that the outcome of each patient's treatment is
different because of individual health conditions and the course of treatment chosen by the doctor.
Problems arise when a patient is not satisfied with care provided by the doctor or in extreme cases
when a patient dies. Since most of the time it is hard to clearly determine whether the outcome was
solely a result of the course of treatment chosen by the doctor or whether other factors played a role

Mrs. Helling filed a lawsuit against her ophthalmologist but during the trial the court ruled in favor
of the defendants arguing that in ophthalmology it was not a standard of profession to perform
routine glaucoma tests in patients under forty years of age. It is important to note here that the
standards of the profession did require performing pressure tests if the patient's complaints and
symptoms indicated that the patient may be suffering from glaucoma. The defendants' argument was
that the test was given thirty days after the patients first complained of visual field problems. The
jury decided in favor of the defendants and the court ruled accordingly. The Court of Appeals
affirmed the lower court's decision at which point the plaintiff petitioned for a review of the case.
On appeal the Supreme Court of Washington reversed the judgment and ruled for the plaintiff
stating that the defendants were negligent in not having administered the test at a time when the
disease could have been prevented (LexisNexis, Helling v. Carey). The court's decision was largely
based on the argument that the test was simple and inexpensive and should have been administered
considering the severity of the injury that resulted from the failure to give it. As suggested by
Meltzer in the New England Law Review, two explanations to the decision in Helling are possible.
First, that the court intended to abrogate the privilege of the

Being The Only Child
I was always so content with being the only child, I got everything and my parent's attention was
always focused on me. The world revolved around me, but I felt lonely most of the time and longed
to have a little sibling throughout my younger years. That longing lasted until I was about nine and
as I got older the idea of ever having a younger sibling became perverse. He or she would be so
annoying and instead of having fun with them, I would have to take care of them. That was
something I didn't want. Then it happened. I was twelve years old when my mom and dad sat me
down with the news that I was going to be an older brother. It was October 13, 1995 when my little
brother Christopher was born. He was an odd looking little thing and I wanted nothing more than to
return him, but my mom said that was not possible. We were stuck with him. It was a tough
transition, going from an old child to having to share everything with Chris. He demanded so much
attention and that bothered me greatly. Family came from far and close to see him when before
visits were exclusive to seeing me. My dad, working as a commercial fisherman, couldn't wait to
take little Chris to the boats when he was old enough. My mom, a once working woman, now
devoted all her time to taking care of Chris. She had quit her job once she found out Chris was on
his way. Now that he was here, she spent her days at home taking care of Chris and on her free time
she would read Miss America by Howard Stern which was the

Savannah: Savannah, you had expressed in your discussion post that thought is responsible for most

eliminate suffering. In the case of Jim Carey's video his thought created the entertainment that he
was providing to his relatives in the living room. Even thought they all knew that there was
suffering going on in the other room. I, believe his thoughts provided a way to get away from the
grieving, and creating a happier time. Some may feel that this was creating a fantasy situation, and
that will may be, yet he was able to do so with his thoughts that he conveyed through his actions.
What interested me was that he thought he was only part

William Carey University is a Baptist Christian college in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. It is a small,
private college with an average acceptance rate. WCU is committed to providing a caring
atmosphere to all students and encouraging students to keep God in mind at all times during their

William Carey: The Father of Modern Missions
William Carey was an English missionary. He was known as the "father of modern missions". He
was one of the founders of the Baptist Missionary Society. He translated the bible into Bengali,
Sanskrit and other languages and dialects used in India.
William Carey was born on August 17, 1761 in the village of Paulerspury in Northamptonshire,
England. As a child he was very interested in natural sciences, particularly growing plants. He was
naturally gifted in languages. He taught himself Latin. At the age of 14, William's father sent him to
a cobbler in the nearby village to learn repairing shoes and shoemaking. John Warr who was an
older apprentice Christian working there had a great influence on William. While in his apprentice,
William taught himself Greek with the help of a local villager who had a college education. Later,
he also taught himself Hebrew, Italian, Dutch and French.
William became involved with a local association of Christians. He became acquainted with people
like John Ryland, John Sutcliff and Andrew Fuller, who would become his close friends in later
years and they found the Baptist Missionary Society in October 1792. William was invited to preach
in a church in the nearby village every other Sunday. On October 5, 1783, William was baptized and
committed himself to the Baptist denomination. In 1785, Carey was appointed the schoolmaster for
the village of Moulton. He was also invited to serve as a pastor in a local Baptist church. During this
time, he read

Compare Mariah Carey and Britney Spears' Impact on Pop Music

  • 1. Compare And Contrast Mariah Carey And Mariah Carey How Two Completely Different Artists: Britney Spears and Mariah Carey changed Pop Music? One is the Pop Princess, one is the ultimate diva of all time, how can I put the two together to write an essay? Their music may sound miles apart but their influence and impact on the pop music scene is surely on the same par. At the end of the 80s, in the heydays of Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, a new artist emerged from, well practically nowhere, she's Mariah Carey, since her debut, she scored more hits and sold more records than any other artist yet her impact on the pop music remains rather obscured. So in this first part of my essay, I'm going to reflect on her legacy by writing about her key influence and contributions to music. Whether did comparison came naturally from her and Whitney Houston because they are so vocally alike and Houston is her only rival that can be compared to Carey at the time period, or because of her many disadvantages in her live performances, Carey has been a target for criticism ... She is also ranked by Billboard as the third most successful songwriter in the Hot 100's chart history only behind Paul McCartney and John Lennon. Two of her songs that she have co–written have been named the Song Of the Decade – We Belong Together and One Sweet Day with the latter reigning on top of the Hot 100 for 16 weeks, setting the record for the longest running #1 song of all time. Also, her song Hero was named by many critics as the one of the most inspiration song of all time thus proving the prowess and how strong is Carey's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. William Carey Essay The Mission was initially started to fulfill "The Great Commission" of Matthew 28:19. Approximately 50 years ago a few Church leaders wanted to end the mission. Since that time the number of missionaries and finance has increased higher than ever. The Missionary is one called by God and sent by the church "to serve God in a culture, or geographic location most likely different from their own. According to Genesis 12:1–3 God's mission was known to the Israelites, but they chose not to follow the Abrahamic Covenant. Goyim meaning group of people with distinct political, ethnic, or territorial identities, as a nation or people, i.e. non–Israeli (Isaiah 11:1; 12:4). Israel was labeled as "am". William Carey was called the father of Modern Missions for two reasons. One reason was his prolific letters and pamphlets, writing in support of World Mission outreach. The other reason was Carey's development of a functioning structure for deployment of Missionaries. Around 1970 the Presbyterian Missionaries started Theological Education by Extension (TEE) this was a precursor to online classes. The initial use of the TEE system was to prepare pastors for rural churches. Development of leaders was initially accomplished by one–on–one or trainings in small groups. Currently faith groups are using Bible Institutes or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Returning To The World, By Barbara Carey In Barbara Carey's poem "Returning to the World," a girl tries to get away from her troubles by isolating herself on the fire escape. The poem teaches us that in order for a person to understand their problems and become courageous, they must take a break from everything around them. Carey uses metaphor, imagery and personification to express this idea. Firstly, the metaphors show that being by yourself and thinking can be very beneficial. In the poem, it describes the light as being "frayed" (17) and "nibbling at the end of its single cord" (18–19). This demonstrates that the girl is very stressed and "nibbling at the end" (18) shows that the girl is becoming anxious, urging to get out and be alone. Later in the poem, the girl becomes more ... • 4. Peter Carey Bliss Essay Discussion, Bliss Chapter One The book Bliss by Peter Carey starts with the death of the main character Harry Joy, but this is not how his story ends. Instead, his death changes his joyful and friendly character and gives his life a whole new direction. Harry Joy is a relatively successful man who has an advertisement agency and a family consist of his wife Bettina and his children Lucy and David. He can make friends easily and he is loved by people in general. After having a heart attack, he dies for nine minutes and he sees the Hell. After that point, he starts to be scared of Hell, and this fear causes him to ponder about his beliefs and his life. (Carey, 19) This shows us that he actually starts to see the world in a different perspective. Business, numbers and daily concerns suddenly seem less important to him. He also begin to think of his own faults and tried to release of them, but he couldn't run away from his own past. "Harry Joy could not give up his pain to anyone, that he would carry it with him to the operating theatre and to wherever place he went to afterwards." (Carey, 20) As he cannot run away from the past wrongs, he couldn't stop worry about the future. "Yes, he had been happy. Of course, he'd been happy. But he had always been happy in the expectation that something else would happen, some wonderful unnamed thing which he was destined for, some quivering butterfly dream soaked in sunlight in a doorway." (Carey 21) What kept him happy all the time was his hopes and his dreams about the future, now he sees no dreams but a vision of Hell in his future, and that is when the fear and anxiety took the place of happiness in his heart. • 5. Women's Music Essay For nearly thirty years, popular culture has been an ever transforming mosaic of human flesh, or more specifically female flesh. While it has been known for decades that "sex sells", this statement has taken on bizarre, and at times offensive aspects. It seems that the more modern we become, the more sexually explicit and objectifying media content becomes. This fact remains true across multitudes of media formats; today everything from vacuum cleaners to toothpaste is madly exciting by sex appeal. Ask any senior citizen about the content of television in past generations and you will likely hear them describe modern programs as inappropriate, even vulgar. Perhaps the perversion of sexuality and the objectification of women in the media ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first Mariah Carey Video I chose was You'll Always be My Baby. I chose this video for two reasons. First and foremost, it was one of Ms. Carey's first hit singles and second, it deals (as do most pop songs) with love. I thought that by choosing a song about love I might get to see some of the more explicit video segments that the early 1990's had to offer. My hypothesis was far from supported as this video showed relatively few stereotypes, and the sexual objectification of the female main character (Mariah herself) was non existent. The video details a childhood romance that faded, but the fact that first loves always hold a special place in one's heart. While both Mariah and the adolescent girl she is played by are dressed relatively conservatively and are, for the most part, not sexually objectified, certain stereotypes persist. For one the video only shows Mariah in settings of leisure activities, she is rocking back and forth on a tire swing or is shown reminiscing about her lover to her diary over candle light. Even the young Mariah is shown in this way, doodling in a notebook as her adolescent boyfriend serenades her from outside the window. The boy on the other hand is shown briefly playing sports and then studying (before sneaking out his window to serenade Mariah). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Freedom of Expression and Rap Music Essay Many issues have come up regarding what rights and actions are protected under the First Amendment. Rap music should not be restricted on the television despite much controversy over the idea. Bok says that some acts cause debates, although people may disagree with it doesn't mean it should be taken away. There should be no restrictions held against playing of rap music. Music that we listen to constructs the sound track of our lives. The number one killer in creative speech is censorship. Censorship in music is a topic that has brought about much controversy in the past two decades. "Preventing or punishing speech?is a clear violation of the First Amendment." (Censorship. Opposing Viewpoints by, Greehaven Press page ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Zhar). Lawrence states that ?Blacks and other people of color are skeptical about the argument that even the most injurious speech must remain unregulated because, in an unregulated marketplace of ideas, the best ones will rise to the top and gain acceptance. If the music is found to be so bad, then why are the parents not using the channel blocker on the channels that allow the music. Deciding what children should see and hear in my opinion is a parent's chore and right to decide, not the governments. ?As long as gratuitous violence and sex aren't being seen with Saturday morning cartoons, then what we have now is fine. When parents choose to ignore the ratings that are displayed on CD's, movies and television shows, and their children view or hear something graphic, it is the parents fault not the artist's. There is no doubt that everything we hear and see in the media isn't going to rub us the right way but, that's the beauty of the first amendment? (Mariah Carey). Like Kilbourne states kids are easily influenced by what they hear and see. Not all rap music is about swearing, degrading woman and so forth. Many songs actually have meanings that the rappers try to portray to people. When artists create music that is senseless it can cloud people's judgment towards the music type they are representing. A lot of rappers rap about cars, jewelry, sex, and murder and refer to themselves as "keeping it real". So many people believe that rap music is based ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Paul Carey Leadership According to Paul Carey, "You can take the worst person in the organization and find ways to engage or excite them to make them a better employee and after you do this across the entire organization you entire organization will go up" (P. Carey, personal communication, March 24, 2017). This shows that leaders have the power to improve their followers and transform them into confident people. As a leader, if you do not perform well and help your employees strive to be the best your organization will have issues and employee's attitudes will be negative. Even if you do not have a leadership title there are ways to have people follow your lead but you can't be fake. As you take each employee and discuss with them the goals and objective on each ... • 8. Plagiarism In Hero By Mariah Carey Plagiarism– the act of using another person's words or ideas without giving credit to that person: the act of plagiarizing something (An Ecylopedia Britannica Company). Plagiarism or academic integrity is a well–known issue that has evolved with students and their schooling. Not only are college students involved in this act at unprecedented rate, but students in high school and middle school are as well. Unintentional plagiarism can be performed unbeknownst to the student. This can take place by extracting bits and pieces of information from sources such as; books, internet websites, magazines, newspaper articles, etc... There were two copyright plagiarizing cases against this particular song. Two by Christopher Selletti and another by Rhonda Dimmer. Both cases took place in 1993 and 1996. Selletti claimed that he presented the song "Hero" in the form of a poem to someone named Sly Stone. Sly and Selletti lost contact over the years causing Seletti to perform a "poor man's copyright." This consisted of Seletti mailing himself a copy of his own lyrics. Selletti came across Carey's version of "Hero" on the radio three years later and realized the lyrics were similar to his. Carey provided proof to prove her innocence in court, by providing a notebook with the song dated back to November 20, 1992. The song was intended for the use of a soundtrack for a film called Hero. Selletti's attorney then provided proof that Carey completed the lyrics prior to the October 1992 release date of the film. Due to that fact that proof was brought forth to the court, the judge dismissed the case against Carey. Many years later Selettie used a different attorney and tried to sue Carey again. In all efforts, the judge dismissed the case. Rhonda Dimmmer claimed that the lyrics to the same song "Hero" was similar to hers of the song titled "Be Your Own Hero". In Carrey's defense, Afansiefff stated that Carey and he wrote the song in two days in the summer of 1992. Soon after the proper documentation was provided, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Jim Carey Research Paper After Jim Carey had read numerous books written by Eckhart Tolle, he came to the revelation that it is our thoughts that are responsible for our own suffering. If we as humans suffer, it is we as humans that allow the suffering to take over their very own happiness as said by Jim Carey in his video. Jim Carey then had a revelation that he was not just a speck in the universe he was the whole universe. This in itself is an ideology of the New Era. Jim Carey even used a quote from the Buddha scripture which states: "That one's own spirituality is relieving suffering." There have been several influential missionaries in modern day America such as William Carey, George Müller, David Livingstone, Lottie Moon, and Amy Carmichael. These people have dedicated their lives to reaching out to others and have inspired many people to become missionaries. Each one of them has impacted the world in a different way. William Carey was an English Baptist missionary. He was born on 17 August 1761 in Paulerspury, England. As a child he was known for his ability to learn languages. He even taught himself Latin. The man's son, Carey's friend, denied that his father made the comment. In 1789 Carey became the main pastor of a church in Leicester. A few years later he published an enquiry that had five different parts. In part one he used scripture in order to convince people that they had a duty as a Christian to spread the gospel throughout the world. The second part contained the history of missions. Part three was just statistics in order to show how many people need to be reached. The fourth part covered the dangers and struggles one might face as a missionary. The fifth part talks about the need for a Baptist Mission Society and how it could possibly be supported. After this pamphlet was made Carey preached a sermon about missionaries where he used his most famous quote: "Expect great things from God; attempt great things for God." On October 1792 Carey, Andrew Fuller, John Ryland, and John Sutcliff participated in the founding of the Baptist Missionary Society. While looking for missionaries they could support and ways to earn funds, Carey found a medical missionary named Dr. John Thomas who was in England raising funds. Not only did they decide to ... • 13. The Mariah Carey Christmas Special 2014 The concert that I have selected for my review is the Mariah Carey Christmas special 2014. The concert took place on December 16 at the beacon theater in New York City and it lasted for approximately an hour. The concert opened with a performance by a ballerina with classical music. Then followed by the entrance of Mariah Carey, who was at the center of the stage. The visual of the concert I have to say personally was amazing and impressive, it had a big Christmas tree in the back and background with the stars and snowflakes hang from the ceilings, very Christmas like to me. Her band was dressed in white; she had backup singers and a choir right behind her. She began her concert with the famous Hark! The Herald Angels Sing / Gloria, personally I was moved by the way she sang that song, it was moving, it provokes many emotions to me, however this is a song that has a lot of high notes and it was very hard to hear her voice because she was not able to sing it the way she did. Although she did not preform this song like she used to, I have to admit that it made me cry a little, it such a beautiful song and even though she made have sang it under peach, I appreciated her voice and she was still able to make the song her and put a lot of emotions to it. She seemed to be singing under notes in other songs that she performed as well. The rhythm was very smooth and the melody was on point, she was able to hit with a soft approach the lower pitches, however when it came to the high ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Shooting In The Dark By Benedict Carey Times have changed. The internet and smartphones were only a dream 50 years ago and now they are used in every aspect of our day to day lives. Technology's impact on the modern world can be considered a good thing. We are now connected to others like never before. Many different types of computers are currently used in education, the workforce, and entertainment. It has revolutionized the way we do things forever and this is extremely evident in some teen's entertainment of choice: role playing games with stimulated violence. Games such as "Tag" and "Cops and Robbers" have been outgrown and now teenagers are playing games such as "Killer." Teens are playing video games on councils such as the Xbox and Playstation with stimulated violence. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sometimes students have to blow off some steam and just have fun. In the article "Shooting In the Dark" by Benedict Carey, taken from the New York Times, Carey states that video games may cause less real life murders and mass shootings because the games allow people to act how they want without hurting actual living people. "It could be that the games provide "an outlet" that satisfies violent urges in some players – a theory that many psychologists dismiss but that many players believe. Or the two trends may be entirely unrelated." (Carey, 2013, p.2) People that are angry or feel like acting violent can now do so outside of the real world and they can hurt people that are not real. Instead of actually killing the person that gamers are mad at, they can kill people that don't actually exist. This allows the world around us to be safe and many would be murderers to be rational. Carey goes on to write how the games actually cause a decrease in crime. " Violence rates are seasonal, generally higher in summer than in winter; so are video game sales, which peak during the holidays."(Carey, 2013, p.2) In fact, in the article "Violent Video Games May Stop Crime By Keeping Criminals Busy Playing Violent Video Games." Evan Dashevsky says that as violent video games become more popular, violent crimes decrease. Dashevsky states: "The crime rate in the US has sharply decreased as video games have continually upped the viscera factor."(Dashevsky, 2013, p.1) Instead of committing crimes when they are bored or feel like acting out, teens now have a legal way to blow off some steam and get an adrenaline ... The SBC appointed a Campaign Commission was chaired by George Truett and was complimented by directors from each state, association, and local church. It has a wide variety of healthy and unhealthy foods. Unfortunately it had a larger variety of junk rather than healthy. • 20. Qualities Of Mariah Carey Mariah Carey's reputation as a diva Mariah Carey (b. 1970) is one of the most worldwide famous and best–selling female singers in pop music industry who has been on stage since the early 1990s. As a pop diva Mariah has earned a contrasting reputation. The pop star can be considered as an extraordinarily talented person who with the power of her voice can "convey the emotional nuances of the music to her audience" (Moohan, 2008, 163) and has extravagantly behavior and claims. Among the essential factors which allowed Mariah Carey to gain her diva status there is a complex of qualities: her significant voice, her songs authorship, image development, presentation in video clips and on the media. First of all, it is important to point out that the singer possesses an exceptionally beautiful voice, high soprano (Vincent, 2017), with the ability to sing in an outstanding way as she can reach the higher notes than most of other singers. Her "husky speaking voice" presents a profound contrast to her high singing voice, that consequently creates, as recorded, "a vocal range spanning five octaves" ... In particular, I believe that culture is defined as "... the characteristic features of everyday existence (as diversions or a way of life) shared by people in a place or time" ("Culture"). As seen in my personal narrative, one can conclude that my culture is African American, Metropolitan with Appalachian influences, and low income. For instance, in my personal narrative, I mentioned that my mother was singing to Mariah Carey. Mariah Carey is a famous American pop, soul, and R&B singer. I also made statements such as "Butterscotch and Coco" to refer to a family member. Moreover, I also stated that I live near downtown Lexington where there is nothing but eccentric local stores, night clubs, art galleries, Rupp Arena, Triangle Park, and more. Fiction writers and movie producers have led people on to believe, that missionaries are self–serving and as having specific intentions. One of the prime examples of misrepresenting a missionary; is the book called The Poisonwood Bible. I had to read The Poisonwood Bible in an English class. The Poisonwood Bible is the story of a missionary named Nathan Price and his family. Nathan was Reverend and he was mean to his wife and children. Nathan and his family lived in the Congo. He was disrespectful to his wife and his children were terrified of him. I remember reading the book thinking, how does he represent God? Missionaries are sent out to cross cultural barriers and spread the gospel. Missionaries are not sent too foreign countries to destroy or to break the people down. Missionaries have faced scrutiny, because of the negative of missionaries in movies and in books. There some positive movies made about missionaries. Jesus was the perfect missionary. Jesus went to different places and taught the word of God. Jesus drew people unto him. Jesus told his disciples, that if they follow him, he would make them fishermen of men. Jesus taught anywhere. • 25. Carey How We Learn Chapters 6–8 in How We Learn was an interesting read. Carey presented a list of influential psychologists and researchers (2014). My first key question is based on the reading of Karl Duncker and Norman Maier. Maier and Duncker emphasize that incubation happens mentally, jolting people to create solutions (Carey, 2014, p. 123). Although they've bought light to incubation, a question addressing the how still hasn't been answered (Carey, 2014). Carey provides an example of a person at a stadium in a life–changing situation with two guards and a hungry lion (2014). The person is forced with a tough decision, to differentiate which guard is truthful and which one is not (Carey, 2014). The dilemma is labeled as a "famous problem in math logic" however, the problem does not involve mathematics (Carey, 2014). The example could cause one to ponder for minutes, perhaps ... • 27. George Carey Leadership Maxwell also makes an emphatic statement when he says that 'Everything rises and falls with leadership.' This bold statement would suggest that leadership plays a significant part in determining the success or failure of anything and everything – whether it is in a home, in a business, in an organization, in a church or in a nation. Supporting this thinking and in the context of the Christian community, George Carey talks about the importance of leadership and attributes the growth of a Church (and the people in it) to effective leadership, suggesting that when entities succeed, it is not due to happen–chance but to visionary leadership, whilst the converse can also be attributed to poor leadership. If leadership is as critical as described above by virtue of its impact on the well being of people and the society, it therefore becomes imperative that we identify the tools that can be used in developing effective and godly leadership. Finney, writing in the late 80's, states that 'every survey of churches has shown the importance of leadership, yet, until recently, there has been little attempt by Christians to think carefully about the skills and attitudes which leaders require'. Whether it is used as a source of hope and soulful reflection on past struggles, like in Whitney Houston's When You Believe, or to draw strength and determination to Olympians in Vangelis' Chariots of Fire, music can provide spiritual, inspirational or hope–filled meaning. In order to inspire and motivate year 12 students, the electrifying Chariots of Fire is clearly a superior choice compared to the spiritual and soulful When You Believe. This is evident through the analysis of timbre, dynamics and expression and pitch. Through the manipulation of the musical element timbre, it is clear that Chariots of Fire is the favoured selection to inspire and motivate seniors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Chariots of Fire, the consistent ascending and descending movement in the melodic contour, heard at 0:34–0:50, represents the highs and lows of success, where it is common to 'get knocked down' (seen in the descending phase) and 'bounce back' (seen in the repeated ascension of the melody). This encourages students to be persistent to achieve success. When You Believe also has this wave like contour, highlighted at 1:50–2:05. Unlike Chariots of Fire, this movement gradually ascends during the climaxes of the piece, creating a sense of uplifting hope and celebration rather than inspiration and motivation required. When You Believe contains melismas and passing notes, evident at 1:00–1:20. Whilst this does provide diversity to the piece, the piece loses stability. Dissimilarly, Chariots of Fire does not include this manipulation. This lack of 'embellishment' successfully grounds the piece, conveying a sense of drive and determination, motivating students to work hard. Furthermore, When You Believe has a wide range and register, heard at 2:12–2:25. The use of the high register adds a 'dream like' and free quality to the piece, not suited to the grounding of senior students. Dissimilarly, Chariots of Fire has a medium range and middle register successfully grounding the piece, useful when attempting to motivate senior students. Additionally, the chord progressions throughout Chariots of Fire portray a sense of unity and strength, through the use of block chords. This has not been achieved in When You Believe, where the chords are broken into 3 quavers (evident in bars 2–5), producing a smoother and more subdued mood. The slow harmonic rhythm created by the Db sustained pedal portrays a sense of endurance and reliability, both linking to the physiognomies of the characters in the movie and the ... These teenagers are activists who saw a problem that they could change and made huge differences. Their cause was animal abandonment. In this text, you will see what they did to make a difference outside their community, or even country. Faye Carey You have probably gone to a pound with so many dogs waiting to be adopted, or seen stray animals left on the side of the road. Faye saw this issue, and her compassion made her start looking into it deeper, and ended up helping dogs way outside of her community. One of the most significant things that Faye Carey did was she advertised many dogs, and many of them were adopted. In the article, "Teenage Girl is Dogs' Best Friend," it emphasizes, "Faye managed to re– home over 60 dogs." This shows that the dogs that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another thing that Faye Carey did to help dogs is that she used Facebook as a free way to advertise dogs and kittens. In fact, the article, "Pet abandonment: Faye Carey," illustrates, "She has set up a Facebook page, Animal Re–home Waikato, where she advertises puppies and dogs who need adopting." The author later states, "The Facebook page is successful because it has almost 300 likes, and has won many hearts." I think that the Facebook page was a good idea is because the website is world wide, and many people use it. That way, many people can see Faye's page. The final way ... • 33. Essay on Helling V. Carey 1. Introduction Rarely any physician intends to harm patients when he or she provides treatment to them. Patients see physicians and specialists in full faith that they will get help with a condition. What complicates the patient–doctor relationship is that the outcome of each patient's treatment is different because of individual health conditions and the course of treatment chosen by the doctor. Problems arise when a patient is not satisfied with care provided by the doctor or in extreme cases when a patient dies. Since most of the time it is hard to clearly determine whether the outcome was solely a result of the course of treatment chosen by the doctor or whether other factors played a role too, quite often patients take their ... Mrs. Helling filed a lawsuit against her ophthalmologist but during the trial the court ruled in favor of the defendants arguing that in ophthalmology it was not a standard of profession to perform routine glaucoma tests in patients under forty years of age. It is important to note here that the standards of the profession did require performing pressure tests if the patient's complaints and symptoms indicated that the patient may be suffering from glaucoma. The defendants' argument was that the test was given thirty days after the patients first complained of visual field problems. The jury decided in favor of the defendants and the court ruled accordingly. The Court of Appeals affirmed the lower court's decision at which point the plaintiff petitioned for a review of the case. On appeal the Supreme Court of Washington reversed the judgment and ruled for the plaintiff stating that the defendants were negligent in not having administered the test at a time when the disease could have been prevented (LexisNexis, Helling v. Carey). The court's decision was largely based on the argument that the test was simple and inexpensive and should have been administered considering the severity of the injury that resulted from the failure to give it. As suggested by Meltzer in the New England Law Review, two explanations to the decision in Helling are possible. First, that the court intended to abrogate the privilege of the ... • 35. Being The Only Child I was always so content with being the only child, I got everything and my parent's attention was always focused on me. The world revolved around me, but I felt lonely most of the time and longed to have a little sibling throughout my younger years. That longing lasted until I was about nine and as I got older the idea of ever having a younger sibling became perverse. He or she would be so annoying and instead of having fun with them, I would have to take care of them. That was something I didn't want. Then it happened. I was twelve years old when my mom and dad sat me down with the news that I was going to be an older brother. It was October 13, 1995 when my little brother Christopher was born. He was an odd looking little thing and I wanted nothing more than to return him, but my mom said that was not possible. We were stuck with him. It was a tough transition, going from an old child to having to share everything with Chris. He demanded so much attention and that bothered me greatly. Family came from far and close to see him when before visits were exclusive to seeing me. My dad, working as a commercial fisherman, couldn't wait to take little Chris to the boats when he was old enough. My mom, a once working woman, now devoted all her time to taking care of Chris. She had quit her job once she found out Chris was on his way. Now that he was here, she spent her days at home taking care of Chris and on her free time she would read Miss America by Howard Stern which was the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Jim Carey Critical Thinking Savannah: Savannah, you had expressed in your discussion post that thought is responsible for most of the suffering we experience. I had a different take on it, and felt that thought empowers us to eliminate suffering. In the case of Jim Carey's video his thought created the entertainment that he was providing to his relatives in the living room. Even thought they all knew that there was suffering going on in the other room. I, believe his thoughts provided a way to get away from the grieving, and creating a happier time. Some may feel that this was creating a fantasy situation, and that will may be, yet he was able to do so with his thoughts that he conveyed through his actions. What interested me was that he thought he was only part ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. William Carey: The Father of Modern Missions William Carey was an English missionary. He was known as the "father of modern missions". He was one of the founders of the Baptist Missionary Society. He translated the bible into Bengali, Sanskrit and other languages and dialects used in India. William Carey was born on August 17, 1761 in the village of Paulerspury in Northamptonshire, England. As a child he was very interested in natural sciences, particularly growing plants. He was naturally gifted in languages. He taught himself Latin. At the age of 14, William's father sent him to a cobbler in the nearby village to learn repairing shoes and shoemaking. John Warr who was an older apprentice Christian working there had a great influence on William. While in his apprentice, William taught himself Greek with the help of a local villager who had a college education. Later, he also taught himself Hebrew, Italian, Dutch and French. William became involved with a local association of Christians. He became acquainted with people like John Ryland, John Sutcliff and Andrew Fuller, who would become his close friends in later years and they found the Baptist Missionary Society in October 1792. William was invited to preach in a church in the nearby village every other Sunday. On October 5, 1783, William was baptized and committed himself to the Baptist denomination. In 1785, Carey was appointed the schoolmaster for the village of Moulton. He was also invited to serve as a pastor in a local Baptist church. During this time, he read ...
