This document discusses exploring the causes of spelling difficulties for elementary level English language learners. It notes that incorrect spelling is a major problem in written communication and learning to spell correctly is challenging for young learners due to mismatches between written and spoken English. The objectives are to investigate causes of poor spelling at this level and suggest strategies to improve spelling accuracy. The research will use qualitative interviews of a convenient sample to achieve these objectives.

3. BACKGROUND OF THE RESEARCH
 Use of incorrect spellings is one of the major
problems of any written communication.
 Learning to spell correctly is quite challenging for
most elementary level learners
 The basic reason for this problem is mismatch
between written and spoken form
 “The English language is full of words that are
just waiting to be misspelled and the world is full
of sticklers, readily to pounce” (Mary Norish)

4.  It is an old discussion why spelling is the
most difficult thing in learning English
language at Elementary level
 The discussion remains still open as the
final solution is still to be found
 The evidence shows that this problem is
most serious at elementary level

 To investigate the causes of poor spelling by
elementary level learners
 To suggest strategies to ensure correctness of
the spelling
