2. INTRODUCTION
English language is one most used language in the world
with 335 millions users around the globe (Hammond,
2012).
According to EF English Proficiency Index (2014), Malaysia
ranked the 13th place among 63 countries in the world
and recognized as high proficiency speakers.
3. BACKGROUND OF RESEARCH
Speaking anxiety is debilitative to the learners.
48% of employers who participated in Jobstreet.com’s
survey stated that poor English is the main reason for fresh
graduates umemployment (Aruna, 2011).
FLCAS (Foreign Language Class Anxiety Scale) will be
used to identify the anxiety level and what causes it.
4. PROBLEM STATEMENT
Speaking in L2 (English) tends to be very stressful for some.
According to Siti Haryati binti Che Ya (2007), local students
afraid to speak in English and have a low self confidence
when speaking in English.
The cause of high level of anxiety in learning English should be
further investigated (Zgutowicz, 2009).
The educators should have a better understanding of the
learners in order to minimize speaking anxiety (Öztürk and
Gürbüz, 2014)

I. Identify the levels of speaking anxiety among KPTM-
UiTM students in English language learning.
II. Identify the causes of the anxiety.
III. Suggest ways to minimize the anxiety in communicating
in English.
