How did you attract/address your
audience?
EVALUATION 5
INTRODUCTION
During my research task, I did research on the use of
Uses and Gratification theory. Uses and Gratifications
theory is an approach to understanding why and how
people actively seek out specific media to satisfy
specific need. I used the Uses and Gratifications
theory to make my film successful and to also attract a
big audience based on their specific needs.
ENTERTAINMENT
It is important that I took into account the audience
needs and that I made sure my film would be
entertaining to watch. By making my film entertaining I
made sure I had a interesting storyline/plot with a bit
of a twist, for example I included a flashback in my
sequence to not just entertain the audience but to also
make them think, by including a flashback I also made
sure that there was suspense leading up to it, catching
the audiences attention and making them think ‘what
is going to happen next’ .
ESCAPISM
Escapism, escapism is a mental diversion by means of
entertainment, the tendency to seek distraction from every
day life situations by seeking entertainment. Many people
watch films to escape from unpleasant realities and I
made sure I addressed the audiences needs for
escapism, by doing this I created a suspense and
interesting storyline with a twist it, I did this because I
knew it would intrigue the audience and keep them
entertained, in which this would mean they would forget
about their everyday life situations and problems for a
while.
SOCIAL INTERACTION
I created a very interesting and attention-grabbing
opening sequence for the audiences needs for
Entertainment, Escapism and also SOCIAL
INTERACTION. Because my film is interesting and
makes the audience want to watch more, I feel that
the audience would want to share their thoughts and
feelings about the film with their family or friends,
perhaps suggesting what might happen next and
predicting what might happen at the end.
CONCLUSION
Overall by addressing my audiences needs for
Entertainment, Escapism and Social Interaction I think
that my film opening sequence will attract the typical
type of audience of a crime film. By thinking about the
audiences needs and taking them into account I think
that my film will be successful and attract its target
audience.
