1. CREATIVE CRITICAL
EVALUATION QUESTION 2
HOW DOES YOUR PRODUCT ENGAGE WITH THE AUDIENCES, AND
HOW IS IT GOING TO BE DISTRIBUTED AS A REAL MEDIA PRODUCT?
2. FOR A MEDIA TEXT TO BE SUCCESSFUL, IT MUST
INTERACT WITH THE AUDIENCE AND TO SOME
EXTENT, BE REALTABLE. THIS IS WHERE THE
QUESTION’S FOUNDATION LAYS.
3. I WILL ANSWER THIS QUESTION IN THREE PARTS.
• WHAT WAS MY TARGET AUDIENCE?
• HOW DOES MY PRODUCT ENGAGE WITH THE AUDIENCES?
• HOW WILL MY PRODUCT BE DISTRIBUTED AS A REAL MEDIA
PRODUCT?
4. WHAT WAS MY TARGET AUDIENCE AND HOW DID I
SHAPE MY PRODUCT ACCORDING TO IT?
This is not asked in the question but including this will make the question
better understandable. The target audience for my opening sequence are
teenagers and people in their early adulthood, to give a detailed explanation;
primarily people aged between 12-25. Since my opening sequel does not include
any violence, foul language or any thing in such nature it is likely to get a PG13
rating which will make it fit the parameters of my target.
5. RESEARCH SURVEY
In the beginning of my research and planning I created a small but very useful
questionnaire, through which I reached out my audience and asked them if they
would be interested in film revolving around the genre and story board like
mine, the questionnaire was created using google forms and distributed on my
Instagram account, and it gathered responses from 39 people.
6. THE RESULTS AND WHAT DO THEY MEAN
I asked my audience “thriller/suspense’ genre attracts them and 38 out of 39 people
voted for yes, but at the same time 17 out of 39 people said they wouldn’t be
interested in a film that revolves around religion, so for my opening sequence I tried to
eliminate the religion as much as possible, the nun or eve was given less screen time
than tom. As this research I was already aware that my target audience would be
interested in a thriller film shot outside, having a mysterious storyboard, connection
with the characters, and spooky music; I gave attention to these details and created my
media product accordingly. My final product contained spooky music, was mainly shot
outside, had close up shots and pov shots to give the viewers the connection that they
want with the characters. (for more detailed explanation of the questionnaire head out

7. HOW DOES MY PRODUCT ENGAGE WITH THE AUDIENCES?
The main concept that my opening sequence delivered to my audience (mainly people from 12-25) is a good thriller suspense
film, that fastens their heartbeats, and intrigues them into watching more till they uncover the truth. The story of a missing boy
after finding out something strange involving a catholic nun is itself captivating, the idea of nuns is mainly used in horror films,
and so my film involves an idea of horror in it. As young youth is always eager to know “what went wrong and what happened”
the sequences fill their minds with several questions and demand more. My sequence's pure purpose is to entertain my
audience. My film promised a sense of mystery, thriller, and suspense. The mysterious message it delivered adding all the
conventions I challenged, kept my audience captivated in the opening. In addition to the mysterious plot I added spooky
sounds, for my audience to pay closer attention and to sort of build the question of what is going to happen next. Especially in
last scene I think the song perfectly matches the scene as it includes the sign missing with the song stating “tell me where did
you sleep last night”. I think another way my that my product engages with the audience is through my costumes and
performance, the nun attire stole the show, as I mentioned earlier anything relating a nun is referred to horror as soon as the
audience saw the attire they got more and curious about what is going to happen next. In addition another way that a product
engages with the audience is through specific shots, in my opening sequence the most specific shot that created a sense of
mystery in the atmosphere was the last scene, when the “missing poster” came in. the use of music enhanced the entire look of
the final film. Although none of me and my actors were professional, we still managed to deliver a performance on camera that
suited my characters and at least kept the audience satisfied.
8. HOW WILL MY PRODUCT BE DISTRIBUITED AS A REAL MEDIA
TEXT?
1. Marketing.
2. Distribution.
3. Merchandising.
9. MARKETING
Before I release the opening sequence, I’ll be needing to market it will. As a real Media
product, its marketing will range from releasing trailers and clips on tv but also side by
side releasing them on social media sites like Instagram, Facebook etc. I will also be
releasing behind the scenes footage and uploading bloopers. To market my product it
is important to create the hype, and for that use of trendy hashtags, and tiktok can be
use as majority of the things uploaded on tiktok are mostly to blow up with billions of
people watching videos on tiktok everyday, it is very easy to market my product on the
platform. By these measures I’ll create a hype for my product, and thus would increase
distribution and sales for my product.
10. DISTRIBUTION
The primary source of distribution and marketing is to register my film for film
festivals like Cedar film festivals, Filums held by LUMS and film competitions by LCA
by Lacas will provide my film with good publicity and launch platforms and thus
creating a possibility of a major distributor noticing my product, and thus helping out
it more and better film distribution. My film would also be distributed on digital
platforms like YouTube and Instagram. Also, being a real media product, it can be
distributed in cinemas across the world, and then later through DVD release. It can
also be distributed through websites like HULU and Netflix if an appropriate deal can
be reached with them. To distribute my film the first thing is to find a distributor thus
the film the film festivals and competitions will aid in finding a distributor. Once the
distributor have been found it will be the distributor's decision on how and where to
release the film and the methods could include any of the ones mentioned above
combination of them.
11. MERCHANDISING
Merchandising is also a key element to aid marketing, distribution and sales. For
my film merchandising can include, posters, hoodies and t-shirts. It can also
include partnership with food chains to provide free or discounted tickets with
meals or a free/discounted meal with tickets etc.
12. CONCLUSION
This concludes my answer for the second question of creative critical
evaluation for my AS Film Opening project
