Introduction
Networking and telephony is a part of our everyday environment, whether it be in our homes or in
our place of business. We will somehow come into contact with one or the other in some shape or
fashion. At Baker, we are no different from any other business. The infrastructure of Baker is not a
simple pc and telephone setup. The network incorporates everything from a simple analog line to
our data network backbone that is made of T–3 lines, ISND lines, and IPFR provided by the AT&T
datacenter. Baker has 30 offices all over the country and a couple of offices in abroad ... Show more

Centrex systems do not require onsite switching equipment like the PBXs. They usually handle
outgoing calls made from inside an organization without the use or intervention of an operator. In
the case of my office, a trunk or outside path is grounded by the PBX or central office, which is why
users have to dial an access code (a nine in our case) before they can make any outside calls. I am
not sure, but I know we have over 10 trunks that go out from our office. "The difference between
PBXs and Centrex is in the location and ownership of the equipment that routes calls. Private
branch exchanges are located on customers' premises. Centrex is usually located at the telephone
company and is part of the central exchange or central office" (Dodd, 1999, chp2).
Rotary and DTMF
Going a little further into our telephony phone system structure, Baker's telephones are all touch
tone or tone dialing phones. Although the phones that are supplied to us have the ability to support
pulse dialing for backward compatibility; I have not seen or know anyone that uses those features in
today's business world. The old name for pulse phones were rotary phones, and the name for touch
tone phones are dual tone multi–frequency phone, or DTMF. "Pulse dialing or loop disconnect
dialing, also called Rotary or Decadic dialing in the United Kingdom,

Advantages Of Mixed Bundling
Over recent years there is a growing practical interest in bundling on various markets including
airlines, financial services and telecommunications. Various properties of bundling and especially
conditions under which it generates more profit then separate sales have been studied in economics
since the seminal works of Stigler (1963) and Adams and Yellen (1976). Venkatesh and Mahajan
(2009) provide an overview of existing research and identify elements which determine dominance
of (pure or mixed) bundling over separate sales of components. In general, pure bundling works
through reduced heterogeneity in reservation prices across consumers, thus facilitating the capture
of greater part of consumer surplus. On the other hand, mixed bundling can be a powerful tool for
price discrimination if unit production costs are substantial, yielding even higher profit then under
pure bundling. Mixed bundling enables monopolist to sell a bundle to a large mass of customers in a
central segment of total value distribution and, at the same time, capture higher mark–up from
consumers in the left tail, who are mainly interested in one of the goods (Schmalensee 1984). ...

From managerial perspective, information on distributions of reservation prices in consumer
population is an essential starting point for design and optimization of bundling strategies, as these
valuations make up for the market demand. For example, there have been attempts to develop
optimal customized bundling schemes for information goods (including mobile telephony), using
precisely data on reservation prices distributions (Wu, Hitt et al. 2008; Yang and Ng 2010).
Information on subscribers' valuations is also very useful from policy perspective, given ability of
bundling strategies to impact market power through altering demand elasticity or exercising price

technologies and competitors and provides a marketing plan with focus on maintaining current
customers and adding new commercial customers by focusing on cloud offerings, teleconferencing
and telemedicine.
Marketing Plan – Time Warner Cable
Executive Summary Time Warner Cable (Time Warner Cable), the second largest cable provider in
the United States, continues to face stiff completion from the number one cable company Comcast
and satellite pay–for–TV ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The overall cable industry has lost five million customers between 2006 and 2009 to fiber optic and
satellite solutions (Yao, 2010, p. E2). Satellite carriers DishNetwork and DirectTV service thirty–
three million customers. Both satellite and cable providers have been targeted, by fiber optic
providers, like AT&T and Verizon communications. The emerging technology of internet protocol
technology (IPTV) is the most recent competitor, targeting the pay–for–TV customer base. Phone
companies or telcos have entered the competition using fiber optics and IPTV to allow video
streaming. Telephone companies, now called telcos, are spending billions on fiber optic installations
to support IPTV technology. The technology will offer remote areas, currently untouched by
cablevision, but penetrated by satellite, a pay–for–TV option. GenosTV is currently beta testing
IPTV with a planned release date of January, 2011 (Entertainment & Travel, 2010).
While the cable industry certainly has a customer service challenge, satellite providers do not fare
well in satisfying customers either. Satellite suppliers DISH Network and Direct TV had fifty–two
thousand complaints made to the Better Business Bureau between 2007 and 2010 (The Patriot
Ledger, August 7, 2010, p. 24). Customer complaints generally

The Core Of Any Good Business And Call Center
At the core of any good business and call center is a strong platform in place that meets the current
needs of the company and the ability for growth in the future. This proposal is to identify which
vendor I suggest that can not only meet our current needs but also give us flexibility in the future. I
will establish my findings and reasons for selecting the proposed platform from a specific vendor.
To determine the best fit for our needs, I will be evaluating the following vendors to narrow my
selection from Avaya, Genesys, and Interactive Intelligence. I. Avaya Interaction Center and Contact
Center Express Avaya is one of the more well–known and reputable IP Contact Center vendors that
are available today. Avaya has been awarded as one of the "Best Reporting, IP Contact–Center,"
2005 IP Contact Center Review. Being one of the larger vendors for call and contact–centers, Avaya
estimates it has shipped well over 6 million contact–center seats over the last dozen years. This
equates to about 25,000 active contact centers around the world, and it is also clear that competitors
are working to beat Avaya. They may claim that their packages are doing things cheaper, faster,
easier, better managed, and/or with more integrated features than Avaya provides. Despite the claims
of Avaya's competition, they have their work cut out for them. After further review, Avaya's current

signals the tower NCO, the tower NCO notifies the pits to take appropriate action.
b. Position on the Firing Line to Facilitate Signaling
1) Coach. When using hand and arm signals, step back from the ready line to avoid disturbing
shooters and to allow the tower NCO to have an unobstructed view of signals. When there are a
small number of firing points, the coach can signal directly to the tower NCO. However, when the
firing unit is providing its own coaches, their experience level may make it preferable to allow the
block NCO to signal the tower NCO.
2) Block NCO. The block NCO is positioned to the rear of his block of targets in a position where
the tower NCO can easily see him.
c. Confirmation of Signal
1) The block NCO verbally confirms the coach's signal once he understands the signal. The coach
should monitor the target down range to ensure the situation is corrected.
2) The tower NCO confirms the block NCO's signal by either pointing to the block or by verbal
acknowledgement (for alibis and saved rounds). The block NCO should not lower his paddle or
clipboard, until he receives confirmation of his signal by the tower NCO.
3) The tower NCO must remain aware that the block NCO may give more than one signal. The

Piggy's Glasses Symbolism
Piggy's glasses symbolize reason and innovation throughout the novel; Golding most commonly
associates them with the old camp on the beach. Piggy uses his glasses to help the other boys "see",
both physically and intellectually, the best and most reasonable way forward. However, any time
they are removed from the beach, chaos is sure to ensue. The first time, when the boys go to the
mountain to light the signal fire, Jack and the other boys pry the glasses off Piggy's face so they can
use them as burning glasses. While this does help to start the signal fire so they can be seen by a
ship, it traumatizes Piggy since even at this point in the book, Jack scares him. Despite the good
intentions for the fire, it soon goes wild and even results in the death of a littlun. ... Show more

Snc's Fire Team: A Case Study
SNC demonstrated a sense of urgency right from the beginning. By doing so, his order suffered in
being delivered accurately. SNC failed to state and cover Admin/Logistics and Command/Signal.
SNC jumped from Execution brief to a "Time Hack" and moved his team to the start of the problem.
A fire team member stopped SNC and asked, "What's the scheme of maneuver?" SNC was very
vague and said," Well we are moving to the obstacle and then think of a plan". Therefore, there was
no initial plan briefed. This ultimately led to hesitation on his decision making ability and his fire
team were not sure of what to do. As they grabbed the gear, no security was posted and SNC began

Relay Network Optimal Design Of Distributed Concatenated...
RELAY NETWORK OPTIMAL DESIGN OF DISTRIBUTED CONCATENATED ALAMOUTI
CODES
Yuchen Cao
Professor: Yanwu Ding
Department of EECS, Wichita State University, KS, US
ABSTRACT
In this project, Based on uniquely factorable constellation pair (UFCP) and space–time block code
(STBC), a novel distributed concatenated Alamouti code is devised for a one–way relaying network
consisting of two end nodes with each having a single antenna and one relay node equipped with
two antennas. Allowing the terminal nodes and the relay node to transmit their own information
concurrently at the bit level, and turns the equivalent channel between the two end nodes into a
product of two Alamouti channels. thus, called UFCP concatenated Alamouti space–time ... Show

However, the relay nodes in currently–available relay networks with distributed STBCs just
passively forward whatever they have received from the source node to the destination without
being able to transmit their own information. The conventional strategy to realize information
sharing is accomplished by allocating orthogonal sub–channels to relay such as time slots or
frequency bands, operating virtually at a packet level. This leads to significant delay. Despite the
fact that this method may work well for some networks with long coherence time, it will not be
applicable to a certain of strictly–constrained delay systems. Motivated by all the aforementioned
facts, in this paper, we consider a one–way relaying network consisting of two single–antenna
terminals and one relay having two antennas. Our main objective is to design a new distributed
STBC for the network that allows the source node and relay node to transmit information
simultaneously at the bit level. The primary idea of achieving this goal is to properly make use of
the recently developed concept of UFCP and the Alamouti coding scheme at the relay node. The
significant advantage of this novel code design is the optimal ML detector is equivalent to a bit–by–
bit detector.

Contact : The Movie Analysis Of The Movie Contact
The movie "Contact" was a forward–thinking science fiction based movie that focused on Dr.
Eleanor "Ellie" Arroway from the time she was a child, using CB (citizens band) radio to reach out
to drivers across the country, through her adulthood as scientist listening to different signals with
larger, more expensive equipment than her previous CB radio. The movie features her journey from
San Juan, Puerto Rico all the way through to her opportunity to use the machine she assisted in the
creation of. From a young age Ellie was interested in planets, galaxies, and stars thanks to her father.
She star gazed often in the movie using a telescope. She consistently wondered about whether or not
other civilizations existed in the universe saying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unfortunately, her boss and head of the national science foundation, Dr. David Drummlin does not
support this project and therefore cuts the funding. Dr. Drummlin proposes that they do away with
all pure research, or "research motivated by the curiosity of the researcher and done solely for the
purpose of acquiring knowledge" (Pinel, page 7), so that scientist may focus on research that
directly benefits the people that are footing the bill, tax payers. Dr. Arroway then argues that the
"pursuit of science is the search for truth". However, The National Science Foundation proceeded to
cut funding for SETI and the crew left Puerto Rico. The crew's next move was to New Mexico. Here
they used government property and had twenty–seven telescopes to use for their research. It did not
last long, however, because the government soon followed the lead of the national science
foundation and decided to withdraw permission to use the government owned property from Ellie.
Eventually the team received private funding from Mr. Hadden of Hadden Industries. A while after,
Ellie was sitting out in the middle of the satellites using her own, much smaller, radio to listen for
frequency. She eventually picks up on a signal. She telephones back to the station where her crew
searches for the same signal and attempts to

Human Nature In Lord Of The Flies By William Golding
The Beast Within
Human nature is complex. It may take over an individual's mind in many desperate and threatening
situations. In Golding's compelling novel, Lord of the Flies, it is implied that the evil, or bad side of
humanity will overshadow the good. However, there are certain situations present in the novel that
portray the opposite. The depiction of human nature in this novel creates a nice balance between the
positive and negative aspects of humanity. Although Golding's novel is portrayed as pessimistic,
Ralph's words and actions when dealing with various situations, Sam and Eric's loyalty to Ralph,
and the boys' rescue at the end of the novel contradict this idea, creating a commendable balance of
pessimistic and optimistic situations.
Ralph is not only a leader, but a voice of reason within the group. Ralph's main priority throughout
the novel is to be rescued, even when it did not seem as important to the other boys in the group.
Ralph creates a signal fire and consistently reminds the boys that it is imperative to their survival.
Ralph explains, "Don't you understand? Can't you see we ought to––ought to die before we let the
fire out?" (Golding 81). Ralph's scolding to the hunters is well deserved considering that they
wasted a possible opportunity to be rescued after letting the signal fire go out. As time went on, Jack
and his hunters become more and more consumed with hunting and order began to turn into chaos.
The hunters chant, "Kill the pig. Cut her throat. Bash her in" (Golding 75). Ralph refuses to join the
boys and viciously murder pigs. The boys' hygiene habits were also worsening, to the point that the
boys were defecating in the wrong areas. Ralph tries to address it at a meeting, but the boys' find
their animal–like behavior amusing. Throughout the loss of civility and order, Ralph always keeps a
persistent effort to keep the signal fire going and keep order within the group. Ralph's attitude
towards the entire situation drops, however he never completely lost hope.
Sam and Eric play an immense part in the reasons that Ralph did not completely lose hope. They are
truly loyal to Ralph, even after many of the boys left Ralph to join Jack's tribe. They decide to
suppress

This report is designed to relay the information regarding the survey conducted on the third floor of
the Wallace Library at Rochester Institute of Technology. The survey was implemented to analyze
the conditions of the site in question with regard to its current usage, functionality, infrastructure,
and cost efficiency of its wireless networks. In this report, pertinent data, such as: user statistics,
configurations, heat mapping, and frequency analysis, pertaining to the site is outlined and critically

users. Ekahua software was used to get a technical perspective of the infrastructure. The figure to
the right is a heat map of the library's third floor. The icons spread around the map are the access
points of the floor in their locations. It is worth noting that, toward the end of the map on either side
is a collection of APs from the floors below. At the edge of the third floor there is likely less
insolation, allowing the APs from the lower floors to be picked up. Above each of the icons the
ESSIDs and their level of security is detailed in black print. Below, in the purple subscripts are the
channels that each AP acts on. There are two ESSIDs on each AP (all running 802.11n standard) out
of a total of four existing networks: rit_guest, rit, ritwpa2, and eduroam. The latter two networks are
both WPA2 authenticated while rit and rit_guest both being open networks for guest usages. While
unclear in the figure, each AP possesses one open network and another WPA2 authentication
network. The student body and faculty frequent ritwpa2 network and is likely the most congested of
the networks on the floor. The shaded areas indicate the range and signal strength with the deeper

Cognitive Ergonomics Report: Ladbroke Grove rail crash
Introduction
On the 5th of October 1999 at 8.06 am, a light commuter train left Paddington station from Platform
9 on route to Bedwyn in Wiltshire. Approximately three minutes later the train collided with a high–
speed train coming from the opposite direction at a combined speed of 130 mph causing the deaths
of 31 people, including the drivers of both trains (~400 injured). IK20 passed signal SN109 on
gantry 8 at red for danger, travelling at 41 mph and accelerating.
This report investigates potential cognitive factors that could be plausible answers as to why the
disaster of Paddington Rail occurred. The factors that will be covered are the driver of Thames
Turbo Train, Michael Hodder. Due to many theories as to why the train failed to stop after being
ordered to do so, it is important to investigate which theories are plausible in terms of cognitive
factors. The factors and subjects that will be addressed relate to Alertness, Attention, Visual
Perception and Training. All of these factors are crucial when focusing on this incident, as if any of
these theories were to be accepted as the cause of the event, it is important to understand how to
prevent future situations of a similar nature.
Alertness
Although there is no legitimate way to determine why the driver of the Thames Turbo Train,
Hodder, missed the amber signals, it is a plausible cause that the driver was suffering from fatigue
or was lacking in

1.) Process design principles
Combine several tasks into one
Andy Carr has proposed the number of agent pools be reduced from eight to three. Having three
agent pools will simplify the main process of the call flow, which in turn will make customer service
goals easier to achieve. This also gives agents more responsibility and a clear definition of their job
function. He also wants to combine the three main LFS locations into one. This will consolidate
resources and make them easier to utilize by having one central location. By combining the three
locations into one main location it will also be easier to supervise and improve processes in house.
This also facilitates collaboration and team building. LFS will also be implementing a CTI system
that will drastically reduce the amount of time it takes to transfer a call. This system will reduce the
tasks involved with transferring a customer to another agent. Instead of the previous agent having to
email/send the customer's information to the new agent, the new agent will have all of the
customer's information automatically provided to them.
Enable workers to make decisions
To help enable employees to make decisions, Andy Carr suggested several improvements in his
proposal, including creating "call blueprints", consolidation into a single location and changing to a
simplified method of tracking call performance. The "call blueprints" act as a training

What Are The Similarities Between The Lost And Lord Of The...
The essences of human nature share a respectable number of similarities, more than one may
assume. Humans strive to secure, at the very least, four, primary essentials: food, water, shelter, and
fire. This scenario is evidently seen in both the book, Lord of the Flies by William Golding, and the
modern television show, "Lost". In both applications, a group of complete strangers is stranded on a
mysterious island, encountering a lack of basic necessities, sanity, and hope. Nevertheless, every
character unambiguously lived in varying ways: from a savage tribe to an orderly democracy.
Unsurprisingly, these two mediums demonstrate similar aspects in their storyline, imagery, and,
most vitally, the characters. Based on the analysis of Lord of the ... Show more content on

In chapter two, at an assembly, Ralph established two aspects: roles and rules. He asserted that they
"'can't have everybody talking at once. We'll have to have 'Hands up' like at school....I'll give the
conch to the next person to speak. He can hold it when he's speaking.'" (Golding 33). In this
scenario, Ralph utilized the conch as a symbol of law and order. By controlling who had the ability
to speak, the serene, civilized tone of the processions would be maintained, which was something
Ralph profoundly endeavored for. Furthermore, in chapter five, when Ralph signalled a meeting to
discuss the boys' uncivilized acts, he reasserted several points to reinitiate order. Ralph stated that
"'[y]ou voted me for chief. Now you do what I say...So remember. The rocks for a lavatory. Keep the
fire going and smoke showing as a signal, Don't take fire from the mountain. Take your food up
there.'" (Golding 81). Once again, Ralph portrayed his civilized character by pleading for the boys
to perform various tasks in an orderly fashion. These mandates were devised to eradicate the
possibles of an unstructured society where the boys would be oblivious to the importance of
stability and, even more crucially,

Lord Of The Flies Character Analysis
In Lord of the Flies, a group of teenage boys is faced with the tremendous obstacle of being
stranded on an island after their plane had unfortunately crashed. To make matters worse, the eldest
of the group is only twelve years old. They are now faced with the task of establishing roles for
everyone to ensure that their time on the island went a smooth as possible, and that they were
rescued as soon as possible. By establishing roles amongst the group, not everyone was able to be
assigned their desired role, so naturally some of the boys were upset. This story provided a fairly
accurate depiction of how it could possibly be when establishing a civilization in real life. Fairly
shortly after the boy's plane crashed, everyone was assigned roles, and the voted leader of them all
was Ralph. Ralph was really wise beyond his years, especially in comparison to many of the other
boys on the island, and really had his priorities straight. Ralph's main concern was survival and
order amongst the group, along with that came food and most importantly a signal fire big enough
for passing boats to notice. One major quote from the book showing Ralph's leadership came early
on, "They obeyed the summons of the conch, partly because Ralph blew it, and he was big enough
to be a link with the adult world of authority."(Golding 50) This quote shows how Ralph had
authority of the group in the beginning, and when he spoke they listened. Many of the other boys

Data Acquisition Case Study

2.1 Data acquisition
2.1.1 Hardware
The data acquisition was based on the miPod sensor called inertial–magnetic measurement unit
containing a MPU9150 chip with a three–dimensional accelerometer, gyroscope and magnetometer.
The miPod IMMU was manufactured in such a way that it is attached to each skateboard and in a
stable condition (see Fig. 2).
Video acquisition was done using a GoPro Hero 2 camera. Furthermore, a Vicon MX motion
capture system with 16 cameras used for referencing the orientation of the board. For this
orientation, six (6) reflective markers were used on each skateboard. The motion capture system and
IMMU are synchronized by a light–based trigger. Whenever the athlete is in the vicinity, a trigger is

However, only detected events will be classified.
Tricks are found by having high accelerometer at the landing impact after the execution of a trick.
First, area of interest is determined by the highest accelerometer readings. Secondly, the gyroscope
gets the exact time of landing impact within the previous area of interest. Thirdly, the trick time
difference is based on the detected landing impact. An illustration of this is in Fig. 4.
The accelerometer signal is analysed by a sample–wise processing of data stream. The detected area
is based on the highest acceleration signal at landing impact. The sum of accelerometer acquired
values will be calculated by the time. And the threshold is set based on athletes, skateboard and
ground. If the sum of accelerometer values goes beyond the declared threshold, at that time. The
signal will be the area of interest. This means each performed trick can have multiple area of interest
due to the landing impact after the trick.
However, hard take–off, hard kicks on board, more acceleration is measured on each trick could
exceed the specified threshold and this leads to more area of interest.
Contrary to highest acceleration signal gotten at take–off, the gyroscope signal shows the highest
change in signal at landing impact. For all previously detected times and derivative of the gyroscope
signal will be analysed with the interval {ta –1s] to ta +1s]. therefore, L–1 norm of the gyroscope

Lord Of The Flies By William Golding
Lord of the Flies is a book written by William Golding. This story takes place on a deserted island
where a group of young boys ' plane crashed. The boys have to work together to survive in the
island wilderness but the true challenge turned out to be surviving each other. During the struggles
on the island the children try their best to stay civilized but their attempt to construct a form of
civilization is shattered and the boys are plunged down a wild and savage path. The boys split into
two groups, one group follows behind Ralph who preaches about rescue and civilization. As the
others follow Jack who preaches about survival and is high off the power of freedom from
civilization.
In our world today there are many different symbols that stand for great things. Anything can be a
symbol as long as it holds meaning to people. The American flag, for instance,is a symbol of
freedom and peace in our country. The government is a symbol of order and law, that protects the
people 's rights and liberties. Even the United States military is a symbol of security. In the novel,
"Lord of the Flies" there were many symbols throughout the story that held meaning for the young
boys stranded on the island. Some of these symbols were key to the survival of the boys as well as
their peace of mind.
The novel immediately establishes two lead characters that are foils to one another and symbols in
their own right. On one side you have Ralph. He represents civility and what mankind

The Provision Of Communications Equipment And System On...
All communication systems have an appropriate level of priority, availability and safety integrity.
These facilities should be resistant to access by unauthorized persons.
The provision of communications equipment and system on heritage and minor system should be
considered with care and supported with fully documented risk analysis as required. It is
recommended that system should be installed, maintained and operated to preserve their inherent
levels of security which was originally specified, often asa result of serious mishaps to prevent the
future mistakes which could lead to an infortune outcome. CONCENTRATOR SYSTEM
If a telephone concentrator is provided or available it should provide at least the following minimum
requirements.
1) Only one call at a time can be established between the operator's hand and a remote party at any
time one time.
2) No interruption or any noise by a third party should be possible under normal working condition.
3) The level of over hearing could be abundantly low as to wipe out the possibility of confusion
with other calls.
4) All systems should provide a facility which enables the operator to call the remote telephone.
In telecommunication, the term concentrator has the following meanings:
1. In data communication, a functional unit that allows a common path to handle may data sources
than there are channels currently available within the path. A concentrator usually gives

Lord Of The Flies By William Golding
All of a sudden, a group of children find themselves stranded on an island in the middle of
nowhere–pretty scary right? Well this is just what happens in William Golding's Lord of the Flies.
This piece of literature is used by the author to describe the very real society of human beings,
through the eyes of young, "innocent" children. There is savagery, evil, goodness at heart, and the
sense of hope, whether being lost or discovered, in this book. In Lord of the Flies, there are multiple
different symbols that Golding uses to show the fall of society. Two of them being the beautiful
conch shell, and the hopeful signal fire. These two symbols are brought up throughout the book,
however, they don't always bring out the best in the boys living on the island. Throughout Lord of
the Flies, it's noticed how the signal fire is used to show the deterioration of the boys' hope in

The Most Important Thing You Remember About A Thesis...
The most important thing to remember about a thesis statement is it gives the reader your opinion
and you are entitled to your opinion. You are also giving the reader a new article to read and allow
them to give feedback if necessary. This isn 't new to me, for I 've done a thesis statement before and
received good feedback from fellow classmates. What 's different is all of us were focused on once
topic and had to come up with our own thesis on that assigned topic. It worked out well.
Thesis Statement Number 1: Judging A Book by the Cover
People who jump to conclusions without prior knowledge should be aware of people 's feelings and
not make a big deal about it. It causes personal problems and judging can take a toll on people who
are sensitive and want honest opinions. Today, there a re more than seven billion people in the
world. Each and everyone of them are human and have a mind. They are entitled to their own
opinion and have every right to express themselves. The hard truth is their opinion can be taken to a
new level and be considered judging. Judging, or looking done on someone, is expressing how you
feel about a topic in a negative manner. Whether is an artist 's book, an authors book or a plate of
food. These things are judge without any knowledge. Judging mainly goes to people 's appearance,
personality and interests. For example, a man named John looks down upon another man named
Abel, even though John doesn 't know Abel. This is a ridiculous

The Ongoing Transmit Short Story
The Ongoing Transmit It all started on a Friday afternoon in Dolgeville New York. Dave was with a
group of friends. Dave was a young man with short blond hair, and pale white skin. He was at
Dolgeville High School talking with his friends Holly, Brooke, Sarah, and Kevin. They Were talking
about what they heard on the news, there is an old house just outside of Dolgeville supposedly had a
ghost that had been trapped in the basement. They said that the ghost has been down in the basement
for over 150 years, and the ghost has been sending S.O.S. on a ham radio. They were planning to go
to the house and see if there really was a ghost.
After School all of them piled in Dave's Dodge Aspen RT station wagon, and headed to the house.

something he had never seen before. There was a ghost sitting in the chair next to the radio with a
Morse code button in his hand. Dave dropped the flashlight and ran up the stairs to the car with
everyone else following behind. They jumped in the car and drove back home and never went back
to the house. Later that year people started saying that the S.O.S. signal stopped transmitting. A few
months later a married couple bought the house and fixed it up. They never said anything about a
ghost living there. They found the old ham radio in the basement and fixed it. The husband decided
to keep the radio for himself and learn to use it. From that day on no one had ever heard the signal

Why Is Tailgating Bad
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, rear–end collisions/tailgating
incidents are approximately 23 percent of all car crashes, resulting in approximately 2,000 deaths
and 950,000 injuries. Seeing this stat it is not hard to see why tailgating is a very dangerous thing
while driving and needs to be eliminated. Tailgating although is not the only thing I don't like seeing
when I'm conducting a car. While I'm driving some of things that make me mad are when people
don't use turn signals, people having their brights on while passing them, and tailgating.
Driving without turning your signals on really grinds my gears because of the following
reasons. One example is does not notify the person behind you. Driving behind someone ... Show

The first thing that is bad about this is that the insecurity of the driver who is being tailgated.
Driving while being tailgated might result in a driver swerving or doing something that could result
in something they don't want to do. The thought of being tailgated may result in some things, one
thing could be speeding because their mind might tell them that they are going under the speed limit
or not fast enough. Next, the increase of an accident goes up a major percentage if someone is
tailgating. There was a stat done by the Driving Association in California and they tested the result
in tailgating when it occurs and doesn't occur. The stat showed that if someone would start to
tailgate the chance of an accident would go up a whole 65% which is a major increase. Lastly, the
tailgator has a split second to respond if the driver in front of them has to rapidly stop because of
some reason. On a busy road, there are many things that could cause a sudden stop like a ball rolling
into a road or a child running into the road to get that ball, and the time for the tailgator to respond is
almost impossible to prevent a crash. Not even a sudden stop can cause a crash but just a normal
stop when the tailgator doesn't have full attention on driving. Yes, it is evident that tailgating is bad,
and we need to do everything we can to completely eliminate

Lord Of The Flies, By William Golding
A Russian novelist, Maxim Gorky once said, "You can 't do without philosophy, since everything
has its hidden meaning which we must know." Many readers believe that there are no deeper
meanings in what is being read. In actuality, there could be many meaning if the reader discovers
the symbolism in a piece of literature. In Lord of the Flies, there are many characters and objects
that hold a symbolic value. Characters such as Ralph, the protagonist, and Jack, the antagonist,
represent many things such as good and evil. But, there are also symbols that are within the title of
the book and the name of the chapters. In Golding 's Lord of the Flies, the narrator highlights that
the story is more than just boys on an island, suggesting that there is a deeper meaning then what is
being read. The author depicts that there is a significance of the chapter named "The Shell and the
Glasses". In Lord of the Flies, Golding often showcases the importance of the conch and Piggy 's
glasses. This is evident when Ralph says, "And another thing. We can 't have everybody talking at
once. We have to have 'Hands up ' like at school. That 's what this shell 's called. I 'll give the conch
to the next person to speak. He can hold it when he 's speaking"(45). Jack shows the significance of
Piggy 's glasses when he says, "His specs–use them as burning glasses!"(55). The shell and the
glasses are significantly symbolic from the beginning of the story, both represents many different
ideas. The

This measure abstracts extent of diffusion in the network (Abrahamson and Rosenkopf 1997). A
dummy variable called "heterogeneous knowledge distribution" is created with a value of 1 when
the distribution of knowledge is heterogeneous, and 0 when the distribution is homogeneous.
Further, we model accessibility signals as 0/1 dummy variables where 0 indicate no use of a signal
and 1 indicates the use of a signal. Likewise, a dummy variable called "global reputation
mechanism" is created which is 1 when the reputation mechanism is global, and is 0 when the
reputation mechanism is local. Also, we input the inverse number of questions that each agent can
answer per round of simulation as the measure of its time constraint (low– 1/10, high– 1/5). Finally,
we use the parameter value of network density (0.3, 0.7) as the network density variable's value in
our OLS model.
Table 1 reports the beta coefficients of accessibility signal dummy in each of the eight blocks
mentioned above . Results of this split–sample analysis, conforming to patterns seen in the plots,
show that accessibility signals have positive effect in blocks 4 and 6, whereas they have negative
effect in blocks 1 and 8, and insignificant effect in blocks 2, 3, 5, and 7.

Why Is India A Call Center
Abstract: India is a hub to countless call centers helping people from around the around 24/7. In this
essay I will try find and discuss the main reasons why India has emerged as the nerve center of IT
support (and why it is experiencing a decline) as well as to know what makes costumer service jobs
so attractive and why so many young people are committing themselves to working in that field.
For there are two sides to every story, the present paper will show health issues employees can
suffer from. In particular stress and depression.

he reached home, he just slept, and he often wouldn't see his family for months. As for his social

Strangely enough, I could not find any support on the negative effects of working night shifts on
mental health in a academic research paper on this matter. The paper by Suri & Rizvi (2008) argues
that the main reasons by which employees getting stress in their routine life is non–stop mobile
calling, duty to make interaction with costumes and complete the target witching the time. All this
has a double effect on the employee: it make him stressful and depressed.
According to this research based on 100 call center employees chosen from two different call

in equal numbers), the primary source of stress is linked to the nature of the job, i.e. spending the

The Designed User Workflow For The Application
Figure 3: The designed user workflow for the application. When the signal is submitted by the user,
AgileFD is run twice, once with just the most recently submitted signal(s) in order to determine
what data points to constrain the submitted signal(s) to, and then a second time with all submitted
signals and past constraints to show what areas are being reconstructed well/poorly (green/red).
Note: Selected points are indicated by turning to black.
Results and Discussion
This application was tested on a singular system, of Tantalum, Rhodium and Palladium (Ta–Rh–Pd).
The metrics that will be analyzed is how well the Phase Mapper Game's solution compared to
AgileFD alone in terms of speed, satisfying constraints, and having a physically meaningful
solution. It should be noted that the user for Phase Mapper Game has much experience working
with the system so the time does not reflect what would be the average for a lay person. The system
was not tested on a lay person however because it has not been developed far enough to be that
accessible. For this test of the application the solutions were compared for when only three solution
patterns were found. Time As seen in Figure 4, the solution patterns found for the Phase Mapper

Project Management And Construction Of The Project
All the financing, sourcing, bidding management and construction of the project are decided by
MOR internally7.
Eventually, the power centralized into three people – former Minister of Railways Liu Zhijun,
former railway ministry chief engineer Zhang Shuguang and former China Railway &
Communication Group Corp. Chairman Ma Cheng. Liu Zhijun, who had the main leadership
responsibility for the accident and acted as the executive sponsor, was sacked and detained in Feb,
2011, before it happened, being accused of corruption6, while Ma Cheng died of a heart attack in
the following weeks of the accident. They were all accused of abuse of power and accepting bribes
which somehow reduced the budget for the contractual supplier. As a result, corner cut on materials
during the construction is common and poses a tremendous risk on riding the train.
Cause of failure 3 – transparency and oversight: Transparency is always crucial in project

after the accident, the relevant authorities tried to bury the fallen carriages without thorough life
inspection (one little girl was found alive after the carriage was half–buried) and cover up the fact
from being exposed to the public8. Even though it is not clear what happened during the project, it
is believed that serious transparency problems underlie the deadly accident. Who made the decision

Safebrace Project: A Case Study
This is the first two levels of the WBS surrounding the Safebrace project. The project is first split
into six different categories on a physical logic track.
The first section, which is Research, is split into three subcategories that include hardware, software,

selection which focuses on picking the several different hardware components that the device will
contain. Next is the circuit design which consists of how the best way to design the different
components comes into research such as where devices are going to have to be placed. PCB Layouts
concerns any type of special materials for the board that might be needed as well as cost and
batteries. Tool selection concerns the program selection that the team will be using to design the
boards. The final section in the hardware subsection is sensor design and how they will come to fit
together. In the software subsection, the first section is the communication protocols that will be

signal is tested by accuracy and strength testing. Next testing subsection is software part. We

Communication Is A Complex Aspect Of Human Life
Communication is a complex aspect of human life that upon closer investigation gives one a deeper
understanding of what messages individuals are truly attempting to convey. There are four different
channels through which signals and cues send messages from sender to receiver and vice versa.
Those channels are the following; auditory, visual, tactile, and scent channels. Three of the four
channels are non–linguistic channels that demonstrate that a large portion of communication occurs
through non–linguistic means. Individuals are consistently using these four channels in everyday
interactions with one another. Humans' minds and bodies have been shaped by natural selection to
send a variety of verbal and non–verbal signals. A signal is intentional and has been evolved to
produce a certain reaction. Signals are honest because they are linked to one's genes. Due to the
wide reach signals have in one's everyday life a broad analysis of signals would be ineffective for
this analysis. Therefore, this analysis will focus on the role signals play in courtship. One will
explore a total of five different sources of empirical evidence in order to gain a deeper
understanding of why individuals may have evolved to produce and react to courtship signals. One
will attempt to demonstrate that individuals have evolved to produce and react to courtship signals
in order to be able to determine a potential mates interest. Though courtship signals may not
guarantee that one will achieve a

How High Energy X Rays Are Used On A Crystal Essay
Figure 1: Top: Shows how high energy X–rays are used on a crystal to create an XRD pattern (Law
2009). Bottom: An example XRD pattern for a sample point (Xue et al. 2016). Then the collected
XRD patterns are organized and the underlying structures are found. Meaning that for each library
there should be a small number of underlying XRD patterns, usually less than ten, such that every
pattern in the library can be reconstructed as a linear combination of these underlying patterns.
These underlying patterns can then be used to interpret the crystal structure of each sample point, as
well as give insights into the material properties of each sample point. These underlying XRD
patterns are often called a phase. This signal de–mixing of material systems is referred to as the
phase mapping problem. Using traditional methods material scientists can process approximately
ten XRD patterns per day, whereas sample points are generated on the order of thousands per day
(Gregoire et al. 2009; 2014). Clearly there is a need for a scalable algorithmic approach to address
this problem. To address this problem the novel solver AgileFD was created that is based on
convolutive non–negative matrix factorization (cNMF), which has been previously used for source
separation problems (Smaragdis 2004; Mørup and Schmidt 2006). AgileFD uses lightweight
iterative update rules that allows for fast solutions, on the order of minutes (Xue et al. 2016).
However the many constraints that a solution must

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Setting A Direct By Service
Direct by services have become popular each day for television customers. While the majority of us
understand the advantages a DTH service offers, there's a particular point that works as a
disadvantage. The establishment from the receiving antenna must be completed with absolute
precision. A slight tilt within the position from the antenna can lead to altered signals & an
undesirable display quality.
The antenna install process is really a complex someone to perform. Various issues have to be taken

Essay On Telecommunications Implementation At A Company

  • 1. Essay on Telecommunications Implementation at a Company Table of Content Introduction 3 PBX and Centrex 4 Rotary and DTMF 6 WATS and Leased Lines 7 ISO and OSI 9 Conclusions 11 Reference List 12 Introduction Networking and telephony is a part of our everyday environment, whether it be in our homes or in our place of business. We will somehow come into contact with one or the other in some shape or fashion. At Baker, we are no different from any other business. The infrastructure of Baker is not a simple pc and telephone setup. The network incorporates everything from a simple analog line to our data network backbone that is made of T–3 lines, ISND lines, and IPFR provided by the AT&T datacenter. Baker has 30 offices all over the country and a couple of offices in abroad ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Centrex systems do not require onsite switching equipment like the PBXs. They usually handle outgoing calls made from inside an organization without the use or intervention of an operator. In the case of my office, a trunk or outside path is grounded by the PBX or central office, which is why users have to dial an access code (a nine in our case) before they can make any outside calls. I am not sure, but I know we have over 10 trunks that go out from our office. "The difference between PBXs and Centrex is in the location and ownership of the equipment that routes calls. Private branch exchanges are located on customers' premises. Centrex is usually located at the telephone company and is part of the central exchange or central office" (Dodd, 1999, chp2). Rotary and DTMF Going a little further into our telephony phone system structure, Baker's telephones are all touch tone or tone dialing phones. Although the phones that are supplied to us have the ability to support pulse dialing for backward compatibility; I have not seen or know anyone that uses those features in today's business world. The old name for pulse phones were rotary phones, and the name for touch tone phones are dual tone multi–frequency phone, or DTMF. "Pulse dialing or loop disconnect dialing, also called Rotary or Decadic dialing in the United Kingdom,

  • 3. Advantages Of Mixed Bundling Over recent years there is a growing practical interest in bundling on various markets including airlines, financial services and telecommunications. Various properties of bundling and especially conditions under which it generates more profit then separate sales have been studied in economics since the seminal works of Stigler (1963) and Adams and Yellen (1976). Venkatesh and Mahajan (2009) provide an overview of existing research and identify elements which determine dominance of (pure or mixed) bundling over separate sales of components. In general, pure bundling works through reduced heterogeneity in reservation prices across consumers, thus facilitating the capture of greater part of consumer surplus. On the other hand, mixed bundling can be a powerful tool for price discrimination if unit production costs are substantial, yielding even higher profit then under pure bundling. Mixed bundling enables monopolist to sell a bundle to a large mass of customers in a central segment of total value distribution and, at the same time, capture higher mark–up from consumers in the left tail, who are mainly interested in one of the goods (Schmalensee 1984). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From managerial perspective, information on distributions of reservation prices in consumer population is an essential starting point for design and optimization of bundling strategies, as these valuations make up for the market demand. For example, there have been attempts to develop optimal customized bundling schemes for information goods (including mobile telephony), using precisely data on reservation prices distributions (Wu, Hitt et al. 2008; Yang and Ng 2010). Information on subscribers' valuations is also very useful from policy perspective, given ability of bundling strategies to impact market power through altering demand elasticity or exercising price ... Marketing Plan: Time Warner Cable Essay Running head: Marketing Plan – Time Warner Cable Marketing Plan – Cable – Time Warner Cable Bonnie Bagby BUS 620 – Managerial Marketing Dr. Uchenna Nwabueze August 30, 2010 Abstract The marketing plan for Time Warner Cable reviews the market conditions, including emerging technologies and competitors and provides a marketing plan with focus on maintaining current customers and adding new commercial customers by focusing on cloud offerings, teleconferencing and telemedicine. Marketing Plan – Time Warner Cable Executive Summary Time Warner Cable (Time Warner Cable), the second largest cable provider in the United States, continues to face stiff completion from the number one cable company Comcast and satellite pay–for–TV ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The overall cable industry has lost five million customers between 2006 and 2009 to fiber optic and satellite solutions (Yao, 2010, p. E2). Satellite carriers DishNetwork and DirectTV service thirty– three million customers. Both satellite and cable providers have been targeted, by fiber optic providers, like AT&T and Verizon communications. The emerging technology of internet protocol technology (IPTV) is the most recent competitor, targeting the pay–for–TV customer base. Phone companies or telcos have entered the competition using fiber optics and IPTV to allow video streaming. Telephone companies, now called telcos, are spending billions on fiber optic installations to support IPTV technology. The technology will offer remote areas, currently untouched by cablevision, but penetrated by satellite, a pay–for–TV option. GenosTV is currently beta testing IPTV with a planned release date of January, 2011 (Entertainment & Travel, 2010). While the cable industry certainly has a customer service challenge, satellite providers do not fare well in satisfying customers either. Satellite suppliers DISH Network and Direct TV had fifty–two thousand complaints made to the Better Business Bureau between 2007 and 2010 (The Patriot Ledger, August 7, 2010, p. 24). • 6. The Core Of Any Good Business And Call Center At the core of any good business and call center is a strong platform in place that meets the current needs of the company and the ability for growth in the future. This proposal is to identify which vendor I suggest that can not only meet our current needs but also give us flexibility in the future. I will establish my findings and reasons for selecting the proposed platform from a specific vendor. To determine the best fit for our needs, I will be evaluating the following vendors to narrow my selection from Avaya, Genesys, and Interactive Intelligence. I. Avaya Interaction Center and Contact Center Express Avaya is one of the more well–known and reputable IP Contact Center vendors that are available today. Avaya has been awarded as one of the "Best Reporting, IP Contact–Center," 2005 IP Contact Center Review. Being one of the larger vendors for call and contact–centers, Avaya estimates it has shipped well over 6 million contact–center seats over the last dozen years. This equates to about 25,000 active contact centers around the world, and it is also clear that competitors are working to beat Avaya. They may claim that their packages are doing things cheaper, faster, easier, better managed, and/or with more integrated features than Avaya provides. Despite the claims of Avaya's competition, they have their work cut out for them. After further review, Avaya's current high–end offering of Interaction Center 7.0, and Contact Center Express 2.1, which is aimed at the mid–size ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When using hand and arm signals, step back from the ready line to avoid disturbing shooters and to allow the tower NCO to have an unobstructed view of signals. When there are a small number of firing points, the coach can signal directly to the tower NCO. However, when the firing unit is providing its own coaches, their experience level may make it preferable to allow the block NCO to signal the tower NCO. 2) Block NCO. Piggy uses his glasses to help the other boys "see", both physically and intellectually, the best and most reasonable way forward. However, any time they are removed from the beach, chaos is sure to ensue. The first time, when the boys go to the mountain to light the signal fire, Jack and the other boys pry the glasses off Piggy's face so they can use them as burning glasses. While this does help to start the signal fire so they can be seen by a ship, it traumatizes Piggy since even at this point in the book, Jack scares him. Despite the good intentions for the fire, it soon goes wild and even results in the death of a littlun. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... RELAY NETWORK OPTIMAL DESIGN OF DISTRIBUTED CONCATENATED ALAMOUTI CODES Yuchen Cao Professor: Yanwu Ding Department of EECS, Wichita State University, KS, US ABSTRACT In this project, Based on uniquely factorable constellation pair (UFCP) and space–time block code (STBC), a novel distributed concatenated Alamouti code is devised for a one–way relaying network consisting of two end nodes with each having a single antenna and one relay node equipped with two antennas. Allowing the terminal nodes and the relay node to transmit their own information concurrently at the bit level, and turns the equivalent channel between the two end nodes into a product of two Alamouti channels. thus, called UFCP concatenated Alamouti space–time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the relay nodes in currently–available relay networks with distributed STBCs just passively forward whatever they have received from the source node to the destination without being able to transmit their own information. The conventional strategy to realize information sharing is accomplished by allocating orthogonal sub–channels to relay such as time slots or frequency bands, operating virtually at a packet level. This leads to significant delay. Despite the fact that this method may work well for some networks with long coherence time, it will not be applicable to a certain of strictly–constrained delay systems. Motivated by all the aforementioned facts, in this paper, we consider a one–way relaying network consisting of two single–antenna terminals and one relay having two antennas. Our main objective is to design a new distributed STBC for the network that allows the source node and relay node to transmit information simultaneously at the bit level. The primary idea of achieving this goal is to properly make use of the recently developed concept of UFCP and the Alamouti coding scheme at the relay node. The significant advantage of this novel code design is the optimal ML detector is equivalent to a bit–by– bit detector. 2. Dr. Arroway then argues that the "pursuit of science is the search for truth". However, The National Science Foundation proceeded to cut funding for SETI and the crew left Puerto Rico. The crew's next move was to New Mexico. Here they used government property and had twenty–seven telescopes to use for their research. • 14. Human Nature In Lord Of The Flies By William Golding The Beast Within Human nature is complex. It may take over an individual's mind in many desperate and threatening situations. In Golding's compelling novel, Lord of the Flies, it is implied that the evil, or bad side of humanity will overshadow the good. However, there are certain situations present in the novel that portray the opposite. The depiction of human nature in this novel creates a nice balance between the positive and negative aspects of humanity. Although Golding's novel is portrayed as pessimistic, Ralph's words and actions when dealing with various situations, Sam and Eric's loyalty to Ralph, and the boys' rescue at the end of the novel contradict this idea, creating a commendable balance of pessimistic and optimistic situations. Ralph is not only a leader, but a voice of reason within the group. Ralph's main priority throughout the novel is to be rescued, even when it did not seem as important to the other boys in the group. Ralph creates a signal fire and consistently reminds the boys that it is imperative to their survival. Ralph explains, "Don't you understand? Can't you see we ought to––ought to die before we let the fire out?" (Golding 81). Ralph's scolding to the hunters is well deserved considering that they wasted a possible opportunity to be rescued after letting the signal fire go out. As time went on, Jack and his hunters become more and more consumed with hunting and order began to turn into chaos. The hunters chant, "Kill the pig. Cut her throat. Bash her in" (Golding 75). Ralph refuses to join the boys and viciously murder pigs. The boys' hygiene habits were also worsening, to the point that the boys were defecating in the wrong areas. Ralph tries to address it at a meeting, but the boys' find their animal–like behavior amusing. Throughout the loss of civility and order, Ralph always keeps a persistent effort to keep the signal fire going and keep order within the group. Ralph's attitude towards the entire situation drops, however he never completely lost hope. Sam and Eric play an immense part in the reasons that Ralph did not completely lose hope. Approximately three minutes later the train collided with a high– speed train coming from the opposite direction at a combined speed of 130 mph causing the deaths of 31 people, including the drivers of both trains (~400 injured). IK20 passed signal SN109 on gantry 8 at red for danger, travelling at 41 mph and accelerating. This report investigates potential cognitive factors that could be plausible answers as to why the disaster of Paddington Rail occurred. The factors that will be covered are the driver of Thames Turbo Train, Michael Hodder. Due to many theories as to why the train failed to stop after being ordered to do so, it is important to investigate which theories are plausible in terms of cognitive factors. The factors and subjects that will be addressed relate to Alertness, Attention, Visual Perception and Training. All of these factors are crucial when focusing on this incident, as if any of these theories were to be accepted as the cause of the event, it is important to understand how to prevent future situations of a similar nature. Process design principles Combine several tasks into one Andy Carr has proposed the number of agent pools be reduced from eight to three. Having three agent pools will simplify the main process of the call flow, which in turn will make customer service goals easier to achieve. This also gives agents more responsibility and a clear definition of their job function. He also wants to combine the three main LFS locations into one. This will consolidate resources and make them easier to utilize by having one central location. By combining the three locations into one main location it will also be easier to supervise and improve processes in house. This also facilitates collaboration and team building. LFS will also be implementing a CTI system that will drastically reduce the amount of time it takes to transfer a call. This system will reduce the tasks involved with transferring a customer to another agent. Instead of the previous agent having to email/send the customer's information to the new agent, the new agent will have all of the customer's information automatically provided to them. Humans strive to secure, at the very least, four, primary essentials: food, water, shelter, and fire. This scenario is evidently seen in both the book, Lord of the Flies by William Golding, and the modern television show, "Lost". In both applications, a group of complete strangers is stranded on a mysterious island, encountering a lack of basic necessities, sanity, and hope. Unsurprisingly, these two mediums demonstrate similar aspects in their storyline, imagery, and, most vitally, the characters. Based on the analysis of Lord of the ... We'll have to have 'Hands up' like at school....I'll give the conch to the next person to speak. He can hold it when he's speaking.'" (Golding 33). In this scenario, Ralph utilized the conch as a symbol of law and order. By controlling who had the ability to speak, the serene, civilized tone of the processions would be maintained, which was something Ralph profoundly endeavored for. Furthermore, in chapter five, when Ralph signalled a meeting to discuss the boys' uncivilized acts, he reasserted several points to reinitiate order. Ralph stated that "'[y]ou voted me for chief. Now you do what I say...So remember. The rocks for a lavatory. Keep the fire going and smoke showing as a signal, Don't take fire from the mountain. Take your food up there.'" (Golding 81). • 19. Lord Of The Flies Character Analysis In Lord of the Flies, a group of teenage boys is faced with the tremendous obstacle of being stranded on an island after their plane had unfortunately crashed. To make matters worse, the eldest of the group is only twelve years old. They are now faced with the task of establishing roles for everyone to ensure that their time on the island went a smooth as possible, and that they were rescued as soon as possible. By establishing roles amongst the group, not everyone was able to be assigned their desired role, so naturally some of the boys were upset. This story provided a fairly accurate depiction of how it could possibly be when establishing a civilization in real life. Fairly shortly after the boy's plane crashed, everyone was assigned roles, and the voted leader of them all was Ralph. Ralph was really wise beyond his years, especially in comparison to many of the other boys on the island, and really had his priorities straight. Ralph's main concern was survival and order amongst the group, along with that came food and most importantly a signal fire big enough for passing boats to notice. One major quote from the book showing Ralph's leadership came early on, "They obeyed the summons of the conch, partly because Ralph blew it, and he was big enough to be a link with the adult world of authority."(Golding 50) This quote shows how Ralph had authority of the group in the beginning, and when he spoke they listened. First, area of interest is determined by the highest accelerometer readings. Secondly, the gyroscope gets the exact time of landing impact within the previous area of interest. Thirdly, the trick time difference is based on the detected landing impact. An illustration of this is in Fig. 4. The accelerometer signal is analysed by a sample–wise processing of data stream. The detected area is based on the highest acceleration signal at landing impact. The sum of accelerometer acquired values will be calculated by the time. And the threshold is set based on athletes, skateboard and ground. If the sum of accelerometer values goes beyond the declared threshold, at that time. The signal will be the area of interest. This means each performed trick can have multiple area of interest due to the landing impact after the trick. However, hard take–off, hard kicks on board, more acceleration is measured on each trick could exceed the specified threshold and this leads to more area of interest. • 23. Lord Of The Flies By William Golding All of a sudden, a group of children find themselves stranded on an island in the middle of nowhere–pretty scary right? Well this is just what happens in William Golding's Lord of the Flies. This piece of literature is used by the author to describe the very real society of human beings, through the eyes of young, "innocent" children. There is savagery, evil, goodness at heart, and the sense of hope, whether being lost or discovered, in this book. In Lord of the Flies, there are multiple different symbols that Golding uses to show the fall of society. Two of them being the beautiful conch shell, and the hopeful signal fire. These two symbols are brought up throughout the book, however, they don't always bring out the best in the boys living on the island. Throughout Lord of the Flies, it's noticed how the signal fire is used to show the deterioration of the boys' hope in rescue, and overall loss of hope in themselves and each other. One of the main characters, Ralph, sees a ship near the island. He runs up to the top of the mountain where the fire sits and discovers there is no more smoke, so, "Ralph reached down inside him for the worst word he knew. 'They let the bloody fire go out'" (Golding 68). In this scene, Ralph had sent another character, Jack, and some of his buddies to look after the fire for a while. The tap, tap, tapping of Keegan's keyboard started up, and soon the hallways were filled with the familiar playlist. Things seemed to go back to normal as Meghan let the music carry her through the hallway to her pack, and then back to Keegan. "What's the blinking light for?" We are on the treacherous run to freedom, and I am eager to get there. Because of my bistered skin, I was shackled and cuffed, and forced to work in a field my whole life without my family. If all goes well tonight, I will be a free man who makes his own decisions instead of having everything forced upon me by an austere master. It seems like we had been running for days and my feet had never felt pain this agonizing until now. We slid through the woods like a snake slithering towards its prey until we began to hear voices. They echoed through the trees and would not stop. Ducking behind opaque bushes, we waited for the signal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Steal away to Jesus! Steal away, steal away home! • 34. Lord Of The Flies, By William Golding A Russian novelist, Maxim Gorky once said, "You can 't do without philosophy, since everything has its hidden meaning which we must know." Many readers believe that there are no deeper meanings in what is being read. In actuality, there could be many meaning if the reader discovers the symbolism in a piece of literature. In Lord of the Flies, there are many characters and objects that hold a symbolic value. Characters such as Ralph, the protagonist, and Jack, the antagonist, represent many things such as good and evil. But, there are also symbols that are within the title of the book and the name of the chapters. In Golding 's Lord of the Flies, the narrator highlights that the story is more than just boys on an island, suggesting that there is a deeper meaning then what is being read. The author depicts that there is a significance of the chapter named "The Shell and the Glasses". In Lord of the Flies, Golding often showcases the importance of the conch and Piggy 's glasses. This is evident when Ralph says, "And another thing. We can 't have everybody talking at once. We have to have 'Hands up ' like at school. That 's what this shell 's called. I 'll give the conch to the next person to speak. He can hold it when he 's speaking"(45). Jack shows the significance of Piggy 's glasses when he says, "His specs–use them as burning glasses!"(55). The shell and the glasses are significantly symbolic from the beginning of the story, both represents many different ideas. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This measure abstracts extent of diffusion in the network (Abrahamson and Rosenkopf 1997). A dummy variable called "heterogeneous knowledge distribution" is created with a value of 1 when the distribution of knowledge is heterogeneous, and 0 when the distribution is homogeneous. Further, we model accessibility signals as 0/1 dummy variables where 0 indicate no use of a signal and 1 indicates the use of a signal. Likewise, a dummy variable called "global reputation mechanism" is created which is 1 when the reputation mechanism is global, and is 0 when the reputation mechanism is local. Also, we input the inverse number of questions that each agent can answer per round of simulation as the measure of its time constraint (low– 1/10, high– 1/5). Finally, we use the parameter value of network density (0.3, 0.7) as the network density variable's value in our OLS model. Table 1 reports the beta coefficients of accessibility signal dummy in each of the eight blocks mentioned above . Results of this split–sample analysis, conforming to patterns seen in the plots, show that accessibility signals have positive effect in blocks 4 and 6, whereas they have negative effect in blocks 1 and 8, and insignificant effect in blocks 2, 3, 5, and 7. When the signal is submitted by the user, AgileFD is run twice, once with just the most recently submitted signal(s) in order to determine what data points to constrain the submitted signal(s) to, and then a second time with all submitted signals and past constraints to show what areas are being reconstructed well/poorly (green/red). Note: Selected points are indicated by turning to black. Results and Discussion This application was tested on a singular system, of Tantalum, Rhodium and Palladium (Ta–Rh–Pd). The metrics that will be analyzed is how well the Phase Mapper Game's solution compared to AgileFD alone in terms of speed, satisfying constraints, and having a physically meaningful solution. It should be noted that the user for Phase Mapper Game has much experience working with the system so the time does not reflect what would be the average for a lay person. The system was not tested on a lay person however because it has not been developed far enough to be that accessible. For this test of the application the solutions were compared for when only three solution patterns were found. Time As seen in Figure 4, the solution patterns found for the Phase Mapper Game and AgileFD alone seem to be located in the same regions. With Phase 1 and 2 for both following the connectivity constraint, whereas Phase 3 seems to violate it, and more so in the Phase Mapper Gamer solution. It is expected that both solutions would ... Eventually, the power centralized into three people – former Minister of Railways Liu Zhijun, former railway ministry chief engineer Zhang Shuguang and former China Railway & Communication Group Corp. Chairman Ma Cheng. Liu Zhijun, who had the main leadership responsibility for the accident and acted as the executive sponsor, was sacked and detained in Feb, 2011, before it happened, being accused of corruption6, while Ma Cheng died of a heart attack in the following weeks of the accident. They were all accused of abuse of power and accepting bribes which somehow reduced the budget for the contractual supplier. As a result, corner cut on materials during the construction is common and poses a tremendous risk on riding the train. Cause of failure 3 – transparency and oversight: Transparency is always crucial in project management. However, it has been a problem in Chinese society for thousand years. For example, after the accident, the relevant authorities tried to bury the fallen carriages without thorough life inspection (one little girl was found alive after the carriage was half–buried) and cover up the fact from being exposed to the public8. Even though it is not clear what happened during the project, it is believed that serious transparency problems underlie the deadly accident. Who made the decision to award contracts? • 41. Communication Is A Complex Aspect Of Human Life Communication is a complex aspect of human life that upon closer investigation gives one a deeper understanding of what messages individuals are truly attempting to convey. There are four different channels through which signals and cues send messages from sender to receiver and vice versa. Those channels are the following; auditory, visual, tactile, and scent channels. Three of the four channels are non–linguistic channels that demonstrate that a large portion of communication occurs through non–linguistic means. Individuals are consistently using these four channels in everyday interactions with one another. Humans' minds and bodies have been shaped by natural selection to send a variety of verbal and non–verbal signals. A signal is intentional and has been evolved to produce a certain reaction. Signals are honest because they are linked to one's genes. Due to the wide reach signals have in one's everyday life a broad analysis of signals would be ineffective for this analysis. Therefore, this analysis will focus on the role signals play in courtship. One will explore a total of five different sources of empirical evidence in order to gain a deeper understanding of why individuals may have evolved to produce and react to courtship signals. One will attempt to demonstrate that individuals have evolved to produce and react to courtship signals in order to be able to determine a potential mates interest. Though courtship signals may not guarantee that one will achieve a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. How High Energy X Rays Are Used On A Crystal Essay Figure 1: Top: Shows how high energy X–rays are used on a crystal to create an XRD pattern (Law 2009). Bottom: An example XRD pattern for a sample point (Xue et al. 2016). Then the collected XRD patterns are organized and the underlying structures are found. Meaning that for each library there should be a small number of underlying XRD patterns, usually less than ten, such that every pattern in the library can be reconstructed as a linear combination of these underlying patterns. These underlying patterns can then be used to interpret the crystal structure of each sample point, as well as give insights into the material properties of each sample point. These underlying XRD patterns are often called a phase. This signal de–mixing of material systems is referred to as the phase mapping problem. Using traditional methods material scientists can process approximately ten XRD patterns per day, whereas sample points are generated on the order of thousands per day (Gregoire et al. 2009; 2014). Clearly there is a need for a scalable algorithmic approach to address this problem. To address this problem the novel solver AgileFD was created that is based on convolutive non–negative matrix factorization (cNMF), which has been previously used for source separation problems (Smaragdis 2004; Mørup and Schmidt 2006). AgileFD uses lightweight iterative update rules that allows for fast solutions, on the order of minutes (Xue et al. 2016). However the many constraints that a solution must ...
