2. I believe that through my work, I
have portrayed the social group
which I was targeting my product
towards in a variety of manners.
3. For example, I had attempted to present both
genders equally within my work in order to not only
portray the united essence of the genre of classical
musical music, but to also attract my target audience
which is composed of both males and females alike.
4. As well as gender, I also attempted to incorporate a range of
subjects of varying ages into my final product. By doing so, I
believe I have managed to challenge the dominant ideology
regarding the idea that such a classical style of music is
exclusive to mature, older audiences. Having a young musician
as the main focus of the magazine enforces this idea of the
music of genre being made available to all and the essence of
acceptance present.
5. As well as a range of ages, I also ensured that I incorporated a
variety of ethnicities within my final products. Including
images of subjects considered to come from ethnic minorities
in my work allowed for me to subvert the general concept of
the genre of classical music being available solely to people of
white, more privileged backgrounds whom are usually found
to be higher in class. Not only does this portray an alternative
view of the genre, such a variation of race also allows for a
wider target audience to be attracted as the magazine becomes
appealing to a greater number of people.
6. Despite the subversions of ideology I have attempted to
create within my work, my magazine also promotes various
stereotypes regarding my particular social group. For example,
I attempted to enforce the common stereotype of the 'wacky
brass player' within my work by selecting a model who would
suit such a role. As well as this, I believe that my work also
greatly emphasises and develops the stereotype regarding the
idea of those participating in classical music being rather
educated due to the use of eloquent language present within
my final products.
