2. INTRODUCTION
THE ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITY OF MANY DRUGS IS PROGRESSIVELY
DECREASING AS THE MICROBES ARE DEVELOPING RESISTANCE TO
THE DRUGS.
THE QUEST FOR NEWER ANTIBACTERIAL WITH EFFICIENT
ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITY IS GOING ON.
IN ANCIENT TIMES, PASSIFLORA FOETIDA WAS EMPLOYED IN
TRADITIONAL MEDICINE FOR VARIOUS THERAPEUTIC ACTIONS.
PASSIFLORA FOETIDA WAS SELECTED FOR ANTIBACTERIAL
TESTING IN HOPE OF DEVELOPING A NEW ANTIBACTERIAL DRUG.

6. EVALUATION OF ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITY
METHODOLOGY
Medium : Mueller-Hinton Agar Medium (Himedia)
Method : Cup plate method
Standard drug : Tetracyclin (30 µg/100 µl)
Kannamycin (30 µg/100 µl)
Incubation : 37 oC for 24-48 hrs.
Micro-organisms used
E.Coli Bacillus subtilis pseudomonas staphylococcus . Klebsiella pneumoniae
putida pyogenes
7. EXTRACTS OF PASSIFLORA FOETIDA L LEAVES AND ROOT
DILUTIONS FOR PRODUCT A(LEAF EXTRACT) &
PRODUCT B(ROOT EXTRACT)

Incubation :
The inoculated plates were incubated at 37ºC for 24 - 48 hrs.
After incubation, the zone of inhibitions were measured
8. ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITY

From the above data ,Product A(Leaf extract) shows BETTER
zone of inhibition when compared against Product B(Root
extract),and standards Tetracyclin,Kanamycin
11. CONCLUSION
THE ABOVE RESULT WAS COMPARED WITH ZONE OF INHIBITION PRODUCE BY
STANDARD ANTIBIOTICS LIKE TETRACYCLIN (30ΜG) - 25 MM AND KANAMYCIN
(30ΜG)- 18 MM. IT CLEARLY SHOWS THAT THE ISOLATED COMPONENTS OF
PASSIFLOREA FOETIDA ARE IN PROGRESS AS POTENT AGENTS AGAINST BOTH
GRAM POSITIVE AND GRAM NEGATIVE MICROBES.
THE SCREENING OF PASSIFLORA FOETIDA L REVEALED
PROMISING ANTI-BACTERIAL PROPERTIES.
PASSIFLORA FOETIDA L CAN BE FURTHER RESEARCHED FOR
ANTI-BACTERIAL STUDIES.
