2. My Reading comprehension Wiki
Context: This ESP course was design for the students of The School of
Education, at UCV, specifically for the EUS program.
Subject: English II
Location: UCV, Bolivar centre
Type of English taught: ESP for education.
Length: Three hours per week
Number of students: Ten (10), Female: eight (8); Male: two (2).
Modality: Blended course, studied through a semester of sixteen weeks.
Methodology used: Blended classes. Four face to face classes, each face to face class is
every three weeks, and between those classes, online sessions.
Materials: Reading taken from the book done by the department of the language faculty.
Students’ background: They are students who live mostly in villages and towns near Bolivar
state. Some of them have never studied English before.
3. To improve reading comprehension
To apply strategies of pre-reading to formulate hypothesis about the
content of a reading in order to active the previous knowledge about
the topic.
To develop the ability of identifying cognate words, and the distinction
between the real cognates and false cognate.
To start the application of vocabulary strategies in order to understand
better the reading
To increase the vocabulary
To identify the main idea(s) of the texts.
General Objectives of the course:

By the end of the course, students will be able to:
To formulate hypothesis about the text
To identify cognate words
To distinguish between real and false cognates
To identify words or phrases related to the topic
To answer questions about specific information
To elaborate a glossary of real and false cognate words
To identify the main idea of a text
To elaborate a glossary of unknown words
Procedure:
This first part of the course will be taught during the first four weeks of
the semester
Students will be ask to do all the tasks, posted on the wiki artifact,
designed specifically for it.
In the face to face clases, students will have the opportunity to clarify
doubts, and receive personal feedback.
