Gender Stereotypes Of Aggression Analysis
Perceptions of aggression by what gender roles are being expressed whether the person is a
masculine male or feminine male qualities are present or whether a female presents herself as
masculine or feminine in a study by researchers Hannah M. Borhart & Heather K. Terrell called
"Perceptions of Aggression are Colored by Gender Roles" provides a insight on this topic. These
researchers asked participants to rate their aggressiveness towards their opponents in laboratory
setting who were clearly identifiable as male or female who had scripted actions towards the rater.
The first problem with their research is they took a sample of forty five undergraduate male students
from the University of North Dakota with a average age of twenty one participated in the laboratory
portion of a larger study from which the current data was derived out of these participants
Caucasians were thirty eight of the forty five, one who identified as a native American, one who
identified as a middle eastern, one who identified as a African American, one who identified as a
Asian, one who identified as a Hispanic and two who identified as mix ethnicity these demographics
even in North Dakota are extremely ethnically biased having a portion of the participants Caucasian
being 84% shows an lack of diversity their study shows with a small sample size and a high
percentage of Caucasians only shows the aggression of North Dakota undergraduate males who are
around the age of twenty one and attend the University ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The data being a very small number of participants in a smaller populated city could suggest this but
it is hard to conclusively prove this on a national scale or even regional scale aggression also can
stem from past traumas or even societal pressures on them also males tend to have a natural bio
chemical substance in their bodies called testosterone which effects the aggression levels of males
especially at the age around twenty one the researchers never considered a measurement for pre
aggressive tendencies or finding if there is a correlation between the males testosterone levels pre–
experiment obviously their would be a heightened level of testosterone during the part of the
experiment were the stimulus is introduced to them. Did these researchers also consider their
aggression and education level pre experiment the added stress from not being able to figure out a

Fracking Hydraulic Fracturing
Hi,MY names G. from Middle School during this quarter are grade has been studying what is
fracking Hydraulic fracturing is the process of drilling down vertically to get natural gas from shale
rock layers deep within the earth. Fracking produces natural gas extraction. Recent advancements
for the drilling technology have led to new manmade fractures in shale plays that were once not
available for exploration.(What is fracking online). I think fracking is not safe because in the areas
where Fracking is taking place, it is causing crimes which isn't beneficial to the economy, it also
causes methane to get into peoples water and it is effecting surrounding Fracking areas with toxins. I
choose to send my letter to you because as I said before I do not like fracking and When i was
looking for places in ohio that frack I found an article titled Youngstown man admits dumping toxic
fracking waste into Mahoning River that tells how a man from cleveland took oil and gas drillings
and dumping them into the mahoning river (McCarthy, Online) when i saw this i thought that maybe
writing to a news channel in cleveland it could get shared on a show and it could reach people in
cleveland and make them realize that frackings bad and maybe even end fracking there. Fracking is
not safe because in the areas where Fracking is taking place, it is causing crimes which isn't

Northern Leopard Frog Research Paper
Habitat Connectivity and the Northern Leopard Frog
In their movements, northern leopard frogs can encounter native grass prairie as well as crop fields
and grazed pastures that potentially can act as barriers to their movements. Since grassland prairie
and wetlands in the PPR have been greatly reduced, the wetlands that are highly depended on by the
northern leopard frog to complete its' life cycle in the prairie pothole region have become separated
by greater distances. Depending on the cover type through which a frog must move, it can become
exposed to the sun, wind, and other environmental factors for longer periods of time that, in turn,
could cause them to lose water faster than if moving through a more naturally vegetated area. In
addition, they may become more visible to predators. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Populations can be affected if any one of these habitats or connections are lost. Each habitat type
provides unique resources. Since the northern leopard frog utilizes multiple habitat types, studies
need to be performed at each resource patch, and connections to and from resource patches, to help
develop management plans for each habitat. It would not be beneficial to the species if only a single
habitat type were to be protected, rather all habitat types need to be protected in conjunction for the
species to persist. By targeting each patch and the connecting land between patches, northern
leopard frogs will be able to successfully perform each part of their life cycle. By studying the
northern leopard frog and its ability to move across the landscape, insights into the connectivity of
the Northern Plains landscape will

Personal Statement For Transportation Engineering
The development of every nation hinges on the effectiveness of their transportation systems.
Movement of goods, services and people to and from work is made possible by transportation
systems. The importance of effective transportation systems cannot be over–emphasized. A lot of
countries are facing Transportation problems and my country Ghana is no exception. A trip of about
30 minutes can take about an hour or more due to traffic jams. This is seriously impacting
productivity and has been a topical issue in the country. The situation is the same in Uganda where I

Drones Decision Making Research Paper
Introduction – Opening Slide Policy. Government. Politics. What came to your mind when I said
those words? You probably had an urge to check Twitter. What you probably didn't think about, at
least not right away, is the machinery behind the lawmaking process, and the number of
stakeholders advocating to government officials on issues that affect both themselves and society as
a whole.
Why lobbying matters? – Second Slide
Every day, legislators and decision–makers meet with a variety of stakeholders, all of whom are
convening to raise awareness of their issues, sharing their opinions and ideas on the government's
agenda, and driving change in public policy. This may seem like a low priority for some
organizations, particularly given limited resources and time constraints. However, more regulation is
needed before the drone industry can truly thrive here in North Dakota and across our nation. ...

ask for their players to work harder, dig deeper, or strive? We all do. "But to Coach it always meant:
Dignity, Integrity, and Grace." (Ehrmann 2011, pg. 53). Joe Ehrmann's book InSideOut Coaching is
an amazing look into why coaches coach. My mind was blown. My book looks like a firework
display of highlights, underlines, and notes. There are so many ideas in this short book my head
swam. The book really made me question the what, why, and how I am coaching. His ideas and
opinions are a game changer for me. I can relate to Parade Magazine's assessment; Joe Ehrmann is

Environmental Racism In America
Environmental racism is an issue that has been taking place all over the United States for many
years now. The environmental racism movement is the economic correlation between economic
status and environmental health issues. The media plays a huge roll in this issue because it is their
job to make sure that social issues get the correct exposure they deserve. The citizens should know
the status of the area they are living in considering that their tax dollars are going to upkeep the
community. Hempstead, Texas is a prime example because the city is at risk of having a land fill put

The North Dakota Pipeline : Oil
The North Dakota Pipeline Oil has been an important resource of energy in America "since the
discovery of the Spindletop geyser in 1901. It drove huge growth in the oil industry in America.
Within a year, more than 1,500 oil companies had been chartered, and oil became the dominant fuel
of the 20th century and an integral part of the American economy" (History.com Staff). This had
developed the construction of pipelines to move the oil within the country and offshore in coastal
waters. Recently, the federal government approved the construction of a new pipeline that would be
transporting crude oil from North Dakota to Illinois. The construction of this pipeline has raised a lot
of controversy regarding its necessity, but also in the potential impact on the environment. On the
list of controversies, it is facing the established route for the pipeline because it runs half–mile near
of the Standing Rock Sioux reservation, crossing beneath the Missouri River. The concern is the
huge impact this would cause if the pipeline breaks near to the river spilling the crude oil into the
river contaminating the drinking water. The other concern is that as this pipe passes very close to the
Indian reservation, it also disturbs sacred land. In addition to all this, there is the controversy of the
use of eminent domain by the government, to get the land for the construction of the pipeline.
Considering the potential negative effects this pipeline would have on the environment if a leak

Does the Honor System Work Essay
Does the Honor System Work Almost everyone has cheated on something at least once, whether it
was on a test or in a football game, everyone has cheated at least once. For the majority of us, it was
only once and we felt guilty enough afterwards to quit, but there are some that continue to cheat at
every opportunity. While most colleges and universities would like to think that this does not happen
on their campuses, the fact is that it happens everywhere.
People have tried solving the cheating problem with various methods, most of which don't work.
The most popular procedure seems to be to spread the students out and keep a close watch. This

The Internet is also fast becoming a major tool for the cheater. There are many websites that will

SchoolSucks.com which offers term papers to prospective cheaters. You can even get a customized
paper written for you by a team of "experts". The price ranges for papers being anywhere from free
to $200 per paper (Brownstein). Not only can you find sites that will write your paper for you, you
can also find sites that will tell you exactly how you can cheat using such items as a Coke bottle or a
pack of gum, both things that most professors would not worry about (blurofinsanity). Many people
wonder what the honor code is exactly. On the college level, it is a method of self–government. It
operates on the principle that most students are honest and work best in situations where their
honesty is not in question. It is there to prevent academic dishonesty, as well as to penalize those
students that are dishonest. Several colleges around the country already have this code in place and
have noticed a decrease in cheating. In these colleges, some of which include Haverford College,
North Dakota State University and Kalamazoo College, students are responsible for signing an
honor pledge. In the College of Agriculture at North Dakota State University their honor pledge

Political Viewpoints In College Essay
College can be a very different experience for many people especially when it comes to your
political viewpoints. Your viewpoints in college vary a lot on your social interactions. During your
adolescence, studies show that most of your political viewpoints come from your parents. Children
tend to take in political viewpoints from their parents involuntarily (Ginsberg 148). While the child
grows older and begins contact with peers and social media, their viewpoints can possibly differ
from those of their childhood. College for a young adult is a time to express yourself and learn new
things. When being in contact with many different people and learning what they think about
different topics, you open yourself to a real life social media in which you find people who can
agree with you on topics and even disagree with you. There have been many cases in which a person
has changed their entire political opinion just through their social interactions. We as humans thrive

Dakota has been the least visited state in the Union. There are no real tourist attractions here; Mount
Rushmore is in South Dakota. The late news man Eric Sevareid, who was born in North Dakota,
called his native state "a large, rectangular blank spot in the nation's mind." But reporters from all
over the world have been coming here lately, because North Dakota boasts one of the most
interesting and exciting stories in the country: an honest–to–goodness boom. The state has the

At the heart of this pros¬perity is the Bakken formation, located in the northwestern part of the state.
It's a vast pot of oil. "Bakken," incidentally, rhymes with "rockin'." They have a bumper sticker here:
"Rockin' the Bakken." Oil was discovered in this area in 1951, but the trick was extracting it. Then,
not long ago, came a marriage of two techniques–one older, one newer. The older one was "hy –

UND Solar Project Analysis
As concerned citizens at University of North Dakota me and my group addressed a money saving
solution to the president, presenting problems the school faces nowadays. Our purpose of the grant
proposal, "UND Solar Project: Saving Money Through Investing in Solar" was to make a plan
implementing and installing 1,000 solar panels at UND in order to save up money in the future. The
project is accurate, because University of North Dakota faces numerous budget cuts and so the
school needs a change in its spending and budget. Budget cuts and spending on logo which does not
seem that important to do currently, makes students losing their sympathy to the school. Since us
students are getting disappointed with the school, the tone of the grant proposal is based on these
upsetting feelings that we have. Budget cuts are evident here – three more athletic programs have
just been cut. "Although this cut will take a toll on the budget deficit situation the University is
currently encountering, it will not fix the debt we are facing. Taking a look at the money spent on
powering this college is quite eye opening to say the least. This is by no means a "small campus".
Granted there are bigger campuses, some three times the size of this one, but this does not dull the
fact that the University of North Dakota spends much of its budget on power, energy, and ... Show

Though a rhetorical question does not require a direct answer, we used that to make the reader think.
Should not be misunderstood, the questions are not there for the reader to make an argument. Our
grant proposal is a rhetorical analysis that tells the president to implement 1,000 solar panels by
spending 300,000 dollars. The purpose is to make profit after the 2nd year of installation. Every
usable month of the panels would save up approximately 66,000 dollars. Meanwhile the savings, it

Hemp In North Dakota
Kentucky has a well developed pilot program to serve as an example. A 2013 Kentucky statute aims
to bring Kentucky to the forefront of the hemp market. The statute calls for research by state
Universities into subjects such as breeding hemp to suit Kentucky, the benefits for business, and
economic opportunities for hemp products.Aside from University research, commercial production
by farmers is allowed in the state. Kentucky law requires a license to grow hemp (subject to a
background check). The state lists 162 hemp farmers participating in its Research Pilot Program as
of 2016.
North Dakota
North Dakota is notable for allowing industrial hemp farming as early as 1999, making it one of the
first states to do so. The state passed two laws in early 2007 supporting the production of industrial
hemp. The first allows that processors, in addition to farmers, can seek a state license to handle
industrial hemp. The second allows anyone with a state license to import and resell certified
industrial hemp. Like Kentucky, North Dakota allows hemp farming by individuals who have been
licensed by the state's agriculture commissioner. The process of licensing includes a background
check, and licenses can be refused to anyone who does not pass. These licenses do not require DEA
approval. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Canada, which legalized the production of industrial hemp in 1998, might be considered a good
measure of America's potential future in industrial hemp production. As of 2015, 1,135 licenses

down from 2011, when Canadian hemp farmers reaped an approximate profit of at least $30.75

farmers can expect approximately $736 per acre of corn, and Californian farmers can expect

Spring Choral Concert One the afternoon of Sunday, 03 May, 2015, I was watched a performance of

choral literature at the highest level of artistry. When I was went to the concert, I sat in the middle of

wonderful night and a good memory for music valuable. The last choir concert, here at NDSU. "The

wonderful women's choir! When attending the Spring Choral Concert, it's important to have the

Demographic And Evacuation Planning Case Study
Demographic and Evacuation Planning: As Fargo's hazard consultants, we have come up with two
evacuation plans for residents of Fargo, North Dakota. The total population of Fargo is 113,658
people. Plan A accounts for a 100–year flood plain (38.1–foot gauge height) and Plan B accounts for
a 500–year flood plain (41–foot gauge height). Based on our research, the 100–year flood will occur
up to a gauge height of 38.1 feet (North Dakota State University). For Plan A, evacuation area
would be focused on but not limited to residents of Fargo from the Red River up until the I 29
highway. It would include most of East Fargo. Since the 100–year flood accounts only for most of

These places will have important supplies such as blankets, sleeping bag, clothes and personal care
items (e.g., soap and toothpaste), and water and food to account for the residents. Our plan B
evacuation is for the 500–year flood plan of Fargo North Dakota. Through research, we estimated
the gauge height of the flood would reach 41 feet (North Dakota State University). Bachmeir et al.
(n.d.) explained that flood would account for most of the city of Fargo at this gauge height.
Therefore, as hazard consultants, we plan to carry out the same procedures of evacuation in a safe
and orderly fashion. Plan B evacuation process account for more residents of Fargo than plan A.
This means an increasing amount of preparing time for evacuation will last longer than a week. This
larger flood area would account for higher transportation which the city of Fargo would work with
nearby cities to work on getting other transportation to Fargo. Residents of Fargo would have to
evacuate to Valley City and Jamestown. Shelter destinations would be set up in advance with
schools, churches, including the North Dakota's football stadium in Grand Fork located 80 miles
from Fargo to hold the larger number of residents. Much more supplies of food, water, blankets,

How Does Global Warming Affect North Dakota
Global warming has been a major debate throughout the world. Global warming is becoming harder
to debate as its effects are more easily seen on the climate, economy, and wildlife. There will be
innumerous changes affecting people, animals, and plants as the Earth around them transforms.
These changes triggered by the climate change will negatively affect the world. North Dakota is
greatly affected by climate change. Researchers are trying to predict how severe the negative
repercussions of global warming will be as well.
Effect on Region
Global warming effects every region differently. Focusing on North Dakota, one can see changes in
multiple areas including climate, economy, and wildlife. However, unlike wildlife, climate and
economy are closely associated, as change in climate will affect the economy as well. ... Show more

With global warming, ecosystems will take a hit, as species will try to adapt to the changes around
them. Species that cannot change their old habits will not survive due to survival of the fittest.
Changed ecosystems could even lead to extinction of some kinds. This would upset the food chain,
as the balance of nature completely flips upside–down. Mosquitoes can be a good example of how
global warming effects North Dakota as well. With the perfect living conditions brought by climate
change, mosquitoes have a longer lifespan and have more chances to spread diseases. Malaria and
West Nile are just two of the many diseases easily spread. The number of people infected or sick
with these diseases if multiplied even more since the mosquitoes have the perfect environment to

Analysis Of The Plague Of Doves
Pluto, North Dakota does not exist. It is not a current town in the United States, nor are there any
records of any area in North Dakota referring to itself as Pluto. By inventing this setting for the 2008
novel The Plague of Doves, author Louise Erdrich gives herself incredible freedom to develop a
limitless narrative. Readers familiar with the general reputation of North Dakota will recognize
many of the expectations. Erdrich's town of Pluto is rural and conservative, with persistently
palpable tension between the predominantly Caucasian population and the victimized minority of
ethnically Native Americans. Much about the plot and perspective of this novel seems to rely on its
structure around many narrators. The Plague of Doves is told from multiple perspectives and the
timelines jump indiscriminately, sometimes with plots separated by decades seeming to exist in
tandem. While these literary elements are remarkable, informative, and provide the novel with a
significantly unique identity, the importance of setting cannot be overlooked. As focus oscillates
between narrators and time periods, it is the fictional town of Pluto that remains the foundational
factor. Without this shared setting, the novel could unravel into disparate themes. Yet readers
subconsciously recognize the importance of place. As the crimes and social injustices repeatedly
occur in a central location, the novel becomes less about the people and more about the legacy they
inherit. The characters

students, while the total student population of Arizona State University as of 2015 is 83,301

Out-Of-State Tuition
Draft: Making Dreams a Reality The amount of students that attend an out–of–state university for
college is about 13.7% ("Percentage of Out–of–State Students at Public Universities"). This statistic
is remarkably low, considering the growing amount of young adults attending college. In–state
tuition is expensive for most citizens, as out–of–state costs are completely unaffordable. Out–of–
state tuition costs can easily triple the amount of in–state costs, meaning most students find
themselves attending an in–state university without a second thought. The reason for these high out–
of–state tuition fees is due to the state government believing that these extra costs are necessary
because of tax dollars. State schools are funded by the state's ... Show more content on

Students prefer to attend school out–of–state may be doing so for the reason of atmosphere. The
college of ones dreams may not be in the state they currently reside, it could be in a state that's three
thousand miles away. Experiencing "new foods, different geography, and perhaps a climate change"
may be exactly what the student wants to experience when gathering an education (Baron). Another
thing a student wants to engage in when attending college is independence. Independence may be a
very important quality when choosing a school. Being responsible for things such as "schedules,
making and keeping appointments, shopping, healthy eating, laundry, and budgeting" can give
students higher confidence levels which will increase the college experience. The temptation of
driving home with one's laundry basket to make one's mom do their laundry will decrease as the
miles from home increase, forcing students to become more confident and independent. The out–of–
state experience for a college student may be the best part of attending college. The college three
thousand miles away can be more "alluring, to be able to spread their wings, especially if their
college of choice holds the lure of prestige" causing the out–of–state college to be desirable to any
student looking to attend a university of any kind

that would in turn make people more shy to answer, but after a few individuals would give answers,

individual by name, it make the conversation more relatable and would result in improvement
participation rates and positively affect quality of data gathering.
What We Would Do Differently
If we could do this focus group again, we would try and include a larger collection of participants.
This improvement would allow us to hear more insights, and give our group a wider variety of
responses. A smaller–sized group may be more personal, but doesn't offer as much depth as a
slightly larger size.
Additionally, something that would help is finding ways to get people to participate more during the

The North Dakota Access Pipeline Essay

With recent event the Obama's Administration has halted the further construction of the North

sides intensifies either is not going to stand down. The people of Standing Rock Indian Reservation
are protesting against North Dakota Access to continue construction of the "North Dakota Access
Pipeline". Additionally the Army Corps of Engineers has denied the permit that allows construction
underneath the Mississippi and Missouri River. These events have now escalated to national
attention. It is not in the public safety or well being to have further construction or completion of the

The Environmental Movement Of North Dakota
In the spring of 2016, an environmental movement began in North Dakota that today, is making
history. In Cannonball, North Dakota, Native Americans have gathered to protest the Dakota Access
Pipeline; resulting in one the largest gatherings of Native Americans from multiple tribes the United
States has witnessed in over a century (Northcott, 2016). One tribe in particular, the North Dakota
Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, have been leading and organizing the protest against the construction of
the Dakota Access Pipeline. The Standing Rock reservation is located in the Sioux and Ziebach
counties within the North Dakota and South Dakota border; the Sioux people are the primary tribe
of the area. According to Trymaine Lee of MSNBC, the counties are a part of the top 10 poorest
counties in the country, and that it has a history with water distresses. In the early 1960s, five dams
located at Lake Oahe in Standing Rock gave way and flooded 200,000+ acres, destroying nearly all
natural resources and wildlife at the river bottom, as well as destroying towns within the reservation
and sacred ancestral lands and sites. This was a devastating tragedy for the people of Standing Rock,
and it seems that history is repeating itself with the proposed construction of the Dakota Access
Pipeline. The pipeline poses many hazardous threats, and these threats outweigh any economic
benefit the proponents may promise. It threatens the environment, water supplies, historical land,

West Fargo Case Study
The West Fargo Public School system is not only the fastest growing school district in the State of
North Dakota, it is also one of the most innovative and creative. The district's Mission is "Educating
today's learners for tomorrow's world". Teachers employed by the district take this Mission
statement to heart and live it in their own lives. To them, education is a lifelong process, not just
something everyone experiences between the ages of 5–17. Evidence of this can be seen in the fact
that this past summer 20 elementary and secondary teachers began a 20 month educational journey
by enrolling in West Fargo's second Teacher Leadership Academy (TLA). The Academy is a
collaborative effort between West Fargo Public Schools and North Dakota State University's
Educational Leadership Program. The 20 teachers began their journey this summer and will be

they will be awarded the Masters of Education (M. Ed.) degree. Some of the unique features of the

Casey Holwagner Biography
Tick, tock, tick, tock. The cogs in the clock spin and whir in harmony with an express purpose of
moving the hands around the face, each part of the machine fulfilling its task. Like the clock,
factories and companies require each link in the chain to work together in order to reach their full

  • 1. Gender Stereotypes Of Aggression Analysis Perceptions of aggression by what gender roles are being expressed whether the person is a masculine male or feminine male qualities are present or whether a female presents herself as masculine or feminine in a study by researchers Hannah M. Borhart & Heather K. Terrell called "Perceptions of Aggression are Colored by Gender Roles" provides a insight on this topic. These researchers asked participants to rate their aggressiveness towards their opponents in laboratory setting who were clearly identifiable as male or female who had scripted actions towards the rater. The first problem with their research is they took a sample of forty five undergraduate male students from the University of North Dakota with a average age of twenty one participated in the laboratory portion of a larger study from which the current data was derived out of these participants Caucasians were thirty eight of the forty five, one who identified as a native American, one who identified as a middle eastern, one who identified as a African American, one who identified as a Asian, one who identified as a Hispanic and two who identified as mix ethnicity these demographics even in North Dakota are extremely ethnically biased having a portion of the participants Caucasian being 84% shows an lack of diversity their study shows with a small sample size and a high percentage of Caucasians only shows the aggression of North Dakota undergraduate males who are around the age of twenty one and attend the University ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The data being a very small number of participants in a smaller populated city could suggest this but it is hard to conclusively prove this on a national scale or even regional scale aggression also can stem from past traumas or even societal pressures on them also males tend to have a natural bio chemical substance in their bodies called testosterone which effects the aggression levels of males especially at the age around twenty one the researchers never considered a measurement for pre aggressive tendencies or finding if there is a correlation between the males testosterone levels pre– experiment obviously their would be a heightened level of testosterone during the part of the experiment were the stimulus is introduced to them. Did these researchers also consider their aggression and education level pre experiment the added stress from not being able to figure out a task also come ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since grassland prairie and wetlands in the PPR have been greatly reduced, the wetlands that are highly depended on by the northern leopard frog to complete its' life cycle in the prairie pothole region have become separated by greater distances. Depending on the cover type through which a frog must move, it can become exposed to the sun, wind, and other environmental factors for longer periods of time that, in turn, could cause them to lose water faster than if moving through a more naturally vegetated area. In addition, they may become more visible to predators. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Populations can be affected if any one of these habitats or connections are lost. It would not be beneficial to the species if only a single habitat type were to be protected, rather all habitat types need to be protected in conjunction for the species to persist. The environmental racism movement is the economic correlation between economic status and environmental health issues. It drove huge growth in the oil industry in America. Within a year, more than 1,500 oil companies had been chartered, and oil became the dominant fuel of the 20th century and an integral part of the American economy" (History.com Staff). This had developed the construction of pipelines to move the oil within the country and offshore in coastal waters. Recently, the federal government approved the construction of a new pipeline that would be transporting crude oil from North Dakota to Illinois. The construction of this pipeline has raised a lot of controversy regarding its necessity, but also in the potential impact on the environment. On the list of controversies, it is facing the established route for the pipeline because it runs half–mile near of the Standing Rock Sioux reservation, crossing beneath the Missouri River. The concern is the huge impact this would cause if the pipeline breaks near to the river spilling the crude oil into the river contaminating the drinking water. The other concern is that as this pipe passes very close to the Indian reservation, it also disturbs sacred land. In addition to all this, there is the controversy of the use of eminent domain by the government, to get the land for the construction of the pipeline. It is not a current town in the United States, nor are there any records of any area in North Dakota referring to itself as Pluto. By inventing this setting for the 2008 novel The Plague of Doves, author Louise Erdrich gives herself incredible freedom to develop a limitless narrative. Readers familiar with the general reputation of North Dakota will recognize many of the expectations. Erdrich's town of Pluto is rural and conservative, with persistently palpable tension between the predominantly Caucasian population and the victimized minority of ethnically Native Americans. Much about the plot and perspective of this novel seems to rely on its structure around many narrators. The Plague of Doves is told from multiple perspectives and the timelines jump indiscriminately, sometimes with plots separated by decades seeming to exist in tandem. While these literary elements are remarkable, informative, and provide the novel with a significantly unique identity, the importance of setting cannot be overlooked. As focus oscillates between narrators and time periods, it is the fictional town of Pluto that remains the foundational factor. Without this shared setting, the novel could unravel into disparate themes. Yet readers subconsciously recognize the importance of place. As the crimes and social injustices repeatedly occur in a central location, the novel becomes less about the people and more about the legacy they inherit. The characters ... A Brief Note On North Dakota State University NDSU vs. ASU The total student population of North Dakota State University as of 2015 is 14,516 students, while the total student population of Arizona State University as of 2015 is 83,301 students. There are many differences between NDSU and ASU, but each of them have their own special upsides. However, they each have their own special downsides as well. NDSU and ASU are both very good schools who offer quality education, and hopefully by the time I am a senior I will have figured out which to go to and how I am going to do it. North Dakota State University is a public university that focuses on agriculture and applied sciences. Its main campus is located in Fargo, ND. It was founded in October 15, 1890. There are obvious financial benefits of choosing to pursue a degree in architecture at NDSU versus other schools. According to Molly Bausman, NDSU even offers higher quality learning than more expensive 6 year schools. NDSU's architecture program is #1 in the state, and #89 in the USA. Freshman at NDSU must stay in the residence halls the first year. There are 12 residence halls: 4 low rise halls, 3 high rise complexes, 2 gender specific halls, and 3 upperclassmen halls (An Introduction to Residence Halls at NDSU). Each building has one or two different learning communities based in them. For example, Thompson Hall, which is one of the multi–gender high rises, is home to the Health Science and Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences groups (An Introduction to Residence Halls at NDSU). The first year students are required to have a meal plan as well. The meal plans offered at NDSU are 5–Day meal plans and 7–Day meal plans. The 5–Day meal plans includes 3 guest passes and the 7–Day meal plan includes 7 guest passes for the dining halls (NDSU Dining). Scholarships are a big part of paying for college, and NDSU offers a lot of them for each different major. They also offer scholarships based on ACT scores and SAT scores. • 113. Out-Of-State Tuition Draft: Making Dreams a Reality The amount of students that attend an out–of–state university for college is about 13.7% ("Percentage of Out–of–State Students at Public Universities"). This statistic is remarkably low, considering the growing amount of young adults attending college. In–state tuition is expensive for most citizens, as out–of–state costs are completely unaffordable. Out–of– state tuition costs can easily triple the amount of in–state costs, meaning most students find themselves attending an in–state university without a second thought. The reason for these high out– of–state tuition fees is due to the state government believing that these extra costs are necessary because of tax dollars. State schools are funded by the state's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Students prefer to attend school out–of–state may be doing so for the reason of atmosphere. The college of ones dreams may not be in the state they currently reside, it could be in a state that's three thousand miles away. Experiencing "new foods, different geography, and perhaps a climate change" may be exactly what the student wants to experience when gathering an education (Baron). Another thing a student wants to engage in when attending college is independence. Independence may be a very important quality when choosing a school. Being responsible for things such as "schedules, making and keeping appointments, shopping, healthy eating, laundry, and budgeting" can give students higher confidence levels which will increase the college experience. The temptation of driving home with one's laundry basket to make one's mom do their laundry will decrease as the miles from home increase, forcing students to become more confident and independent. The out–of– state experience for a college student may be the best part of attending college. The college three thousand miles away can be more "alluring, to be able to spread their wings, especially if their college of choice holds the lure of prestige" causing the out–of–state college to be desirable to any student looking to attend a university of any kind ... Focus Group Discussion Objective The main objective of this focus group discussion was to get information from human resource representatives, as well as a few mangers of surrounding companies about their feeling and attitudes toward MBA programs, North Dakota State University's program specifically. Our discussion focused on four main aspects of MBA programs: employer sponsored MBA programs, attitudes toward MBA programs, the pros and cons of the MBA program at North Dakota State University, and the human resource representatives' thoughts on MBA employees. To make conversations more personal, the moderator had to address some more sensitive subjects that would in turn make people more shy to answer, but after a few individuals would give answers, other would bring it back to them and answer the question fully. Also, when you addressed an individual by name, it make the conversation more relatable and would result in improvement participation rates and positively affect quality of data gathering. What We Would Do Differently If we could do this focus group again, we would try and include a larger collection of participants. This improvement would allow us to hear more insights, and give our group a wider variety of responses. A smaller–sized group may be more personal, but doesn't offer as much depth as a slightly larger size. Additionally, something that would help is finding ways to get people to participate more during the focus group. Not everyone will have as much experience as the next person, but it's still important to hear their thoughts and opinions. The more that people participate, the better our findings will ... In Cannonball, North Dakota, Native Americans have gathered to protest the Dakota Access Pipeline; resulting in one the largest gatherings of Native Americans from multiple tribes the United States has witnessed in over a century (Northcott, 2016). One tribe in particular, the North Dakota Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, have been leading and organizing the protest against the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline. The Standing Rock reservation is located in the Sioux and Ziebach counties within the North Dakota and South Dakota border; the Sioux people are the primary tribe of the area. According to Trymaine Lee of MSNBC, the counties are a part of the top 10 poorest counties in the country, and that it has a history with water distresses. In the early 1960s, five dams located at Lake Oahe in Standing Rock gave way and flooded 200,000+ acres, destroying nearly all natural resources and wildlife at the river bottom, as well as destroying towns within the reservation and sacred ancestral lands and sites. This was a devastating tragedy for the people of Standing Rock, and it seems that history is repeating itself with the proposed construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline. The pipeline poses many hazardous threats, and these threats outweigh any economic benefit the proponents may promise. The district's Mission is "Educating today's learners for tomorrow's world". Teachers employed by the district take this Mission statement to heart and live it in their own lives. To them, education is a lifelong process, not just something everyone experiences between the ages of 5–17. Evidence of this can be seen in the fact that this past summer 20 elementary and secondary teachers began a 20 month educational journey by enrolling in West Fargo's second Teacher Leadership Academy (TLA). The Academy is a collaborative effort between West Fargo Public Schools and North Dakota State University's Educational Leadership Program. The 20 teachers began their journey this summer and will be meeting during the school year every–other Wednesday after school. At the end of five semesters they will be awarded the Masters of Education (M. Ed.) degree. Some of the unique features of the Teacher Leadership Academy are: a) rather than traveling to campus for their coursework, Academy students are taught at the district's Leidal Education Center, b) classes are facilitated by not only university professors, but the district's two assistant superintendents [Dr. Allen Burgad and Mrs. Beth Slette], and c) course assignments are focused around the district's initiatives and strategic plan. ...
