Greatness can be defined in three words, success , hard work and determination. The 1998 New
York Yankees lived up to every single one of those three traits. They are the greatest sports team of

The claim was that Major League Baseball could not operate with both interstate and intrastate
commerce. If considered interstate commerce, MLB's reserve clause would be a violation of the
Sherman Antitrust Act (1890), "which deemed 'every contract, combination...or conspiracy' illegal
that restrained 'trade or commerce among the several states.' The goal was to ban monopolistic
practices that prevented competition" (p. 20). In the 1922 court case Federal Baseball Club of

The 1920's in America was a time of great prosperity and growth. Industries were booming, cities
were growing, and people were changing. Americans were forgetting the old traditions and values
that they used to live by. Americans were viewing and following new entertainments. Sports were
one of these entertainments. Amateur and professional athlete's performance in their own sport was
key to the growth of athletics in the 1920's, because they changed the American attitude towards
sports, created legends, and increased popularity. The culture in the 1920's was full of prosperity
throughout America. WWII had concluded and people were glad it was over. Americans lived for
the moment and forgot about the past. Industries were growing with the great expansion of the
economy. Across the country, new stadiums were being constructed. College and professional team
were building new athletic facilities. Stanford, Ohio State, Illinois, Michigan, Alabama, Washington
State, Missouri, Purdue and Texas A&M were some of the colleges that got stadiums built. These
stadiums were bigger than older stadiums and they had more seats for fans. Americans had more

started playing the game very early on in her life at the age of five. Just a mere three years later she

A National Commission ,which had members from both leagues, was established to enforce the
rules made between the two leagues. The two leagues battle against one another , in attendance and
popularity , during the following year. In 1903 , the two leagues decided to play a best of nine series
between the winner from the National League and the winner from the American League. The series
" was a financial success for the owners"(4)and players and it was a popular success with the fans.
The Boston team from the American League won the first world series in 1903 and the New York
Giants from the National League won 1905. In 1904 , the National League choose not to play the
