This document discusses composition, focus, and lighting techniques in photography. It analyzes several plant photos that demonstrate these principles. The photos use techniques like the rule of thirds for composition, shallow depth of field to pull focus on the main subject while blurring the background, and natural sunlight to illuminate and cast shadows on the subject. 1. COMPOSITION
The rule of thirds comes into play in this image. It adds balance
to the photograph as well as keeping the main focus of the image
in within a well composed structure.
The balance in this photo is used to show more important
elements closer, bigger and more in focus than other objects in
the photo. For example the bright yellow flower in the right of the
frame.
The Image is an extreme close-up focusing on the details in the
plants, whereas if it was a wider shot there wouldn't be a clear
focus in the image therefore it is cropped and close-up.
Similar to the image above this image shows structure using the
rule of thirds. An affective close-up on the plants including all
detail but only the closest flowers are in full focus showing some
depth.
Although it is out of focus there is just
enough detail in the background to
show the complete setting of the
photograph.

2. FOCUS
The main focus of the photograph being the flower has a pulled
focus from the blurred/ out of focus background. This helps you
realise the main subject as it is in full focus but still including
some background detail showing the subject in its particular
setting which makes a more interesting photo.
As the large flower is closest to the lens using auto focus allows
me to keep focus mostly on the flower.
Here total focus is on the dandelion being the only object in the
frame. Compared to the photo above the background is
completely out of focus here only showing
greenery in the background but no other
detail apart from the dandelion in the
foreground.
Auto focus is used here to focus on
specifically the closest object, which here
is the dandelion.

3. LIGHTING
In this photograph the main source of light comes from natural
sunlight. The angle of the camera shows directs light focused on
the the main subject of the photo being the rose, which is also in
full focus and detail.
From the angle of sunlight the light comes in from the right
creating affective shadows which balance the image and give the
flower a full and enhanced view point.
This photograph also involves natural sunlight as its main
resource for lighting. From the direction of sun it gives shadows
on the flower but also picking out all
the interesting detail.
