Knowledgeable of some 21st century music, and
good with technology such as iPods and iTunes
3. Main Objective
Students will demonstrate phonemic awareness and
phonics knowledge with the sounds /p/, /k/, /t/, /ch/,
/sh/, /s/, /j/, and /m/ by singing a song by Dr. Jean,
and participating in group beat boxing activities and
a final song by the end of the week.
100% of students should demonstrate and master
phonemic awareness, using the beat boxing activity,
by the end of the week. 85% on students should
master carpet activity song by the end of the week.
4. Beat Box Breakdown
Monday: Introduce beat boxing by showing YouTube video.
Play Dr. Jean CD. Demonstrate sounds /p/, and /k/ and bring in
letters that they represent.
Tuesday: Review /b/ and /k/, and introduce /t/ and /ch/ with beat
boxing activity, then show the letters. (Phonics) All beginning
letters of words will be science themed.
Wednesday: Review previous phonemes briefly, then introduce
/s/ and /sh/ with beat boxing, and all student’s names beginning
with that sound will lead in small groups.
5. Breakdown continued
Thursday: Introduce /j/ and /m/ and bring in all
learned phonemes to set up final song. Students will
get in groups to decide music and costumes for
song.
Friday: Final beat boxing song featuring all
phonemes learned. Students will jump to the correct
letter on a carpet to demonstrate knowledge of
phonics.
