2. · Teaching approach or combination of methods / approaches:
Τhis plan follows the PPP (Presentation, practice, production) approach, which is integrated
with a CLIL (content and language integrated learning) approach, because the students learn
the topics in a coherent and meaningful context.
· Integration of skills: What skills will be integrated and how?
Speaking intends to be integrated constantly in the class, but the students speak when they feel
comfortable to do so. Listening is integrated through a song and the teacher´s instructions and
questions, in L2 all the time. Reading is integrated through reading comprehension. Writing is
integrated in the end, when the students have to write about their holiday.
· Materials and resources: computer, speaker, copies for the students.
· Pedagogical use of ICT in class or at home: the students watch a video for the
routine and presentation stages. A blog was created to work at home and do
homework.
· Seating arrangement: the students sit on two people desks.
· Possible problems / difficulties and possible solutions during the class: I will
download videos before the class because there isn´t internet connection. If my
computer doesn´t work, I will use the board.
· Assessment: what will be assessed and how: the students´ pronunciation, listening
and speaking will be assessed by singing songs and getting the students to talk about
their pets; grammar and vocabulary will be assessed through writing activities and
games.
STAGES IN THE LESSON
ROUTINE (5´)
Purpose: for the students to get to know the teacher and the teacher to get to know the

T: mmm…it´s false! I am 30 years old. I have got 3 sisters. True or false?
S: False!
T: Correct! I have got 4 sisters. I love rock music. True or false?
S: True!
T: Yes! My favourite band is The Beatles. True or false?

S: Yes!
T: Which English city do the Beatles come from? (if they don’t answer, T may give them
4. options like: London, Liverpool or Manchester?)

T: Exactly. They come from Liverpool. And how many people were there in the band?
(counting with fingers)
S: 4!
T: Yes, they were 4. What were their names?
S: John Lennon…Paul McCartney… (if they don´t remember the others, it´s OK)
T: Yes! And Ringo Starr and George Harrison! What kind of music did they play? (if they
don´t answer, T gives them options like techno, folk, pop?)
S: Pop!
T: That´s correct! Do you know any song?
S: Help! Yesterday! (again, if they don´t answer, they get some options)
T: Do you like The Beatles?
S: Yes!
T: Great, because I love them too! We will read a text about them.
3. T gives the students a hand out with a text about The Beatles. They read in small groups
of two or three. T walks around in order to monitor the activity. (10´)
T: Read a text about The Beatles and then answer true or false. Any questions? (if they have
questions, they are answered right away).
The Beatles were one of the most influential music groups of the rock era, and many consider them the best
musical group on Earth. They were the most popular group, with global sales exceeding 1.1 billion records.
While they were originally famous for pop music, their later works achieved a combination of popular and
critical acclaim perhaps unique in the 20th century. Eventually, they became more than recording artists.
John Lennon was a political activist.
The members of the group were John Lennon, (James) Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr
(Richard Starkey), all from Liverpool, England. Beatlemania began in the UK and exploded following the
appearance of the Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show in the United States, on February 9, 1964.
The band started having different ideas so they stopped playing regularly in 1968, and were definitely
separated by 1970.
Answer true (T) or false (F).
1. They were the best selling group in history. _______
2. All the members were from Liverpool. _______
5. 3. They appeared on TV on February 9, 1964. _______
4. The Beatles are still playing in the present. _______
4. T copies on the board:
CHARLY GARCIA IS A MUSICIAN. JOHN LENNON WAS AN ACTIVIST.
´LOS MENTIROSOS´ ARE A PUNK ROCK BAND. THE BEATLES WERE VERY FAMOUS.
T: Are The Beatles a band in the present?
S: No.
T: So, are they about the present or the past? (pointing at the sentences)
S: The past!
T: Wonderful! John Lennon was only one person, so we use was for singular or plural?
S: Singular.
T: Yes! And were is for plural. Great.
The board is completed and gets like this:
PRESENT PAST
CHARLY GARCIA IS A MUSICIAN. JOHN LENNON WAS AN ACTIVIST.
´LOS MENTIROSOS´ ARE A PUNK ROCK BAND. THE BEATLES WERE VERY FAMOUS.
Transition: Now we are going to listen to a song!
DEVELOPMENT (35´)
Purpose: to practise the new teaching points.
5. T gives each group of students a song and they have to choose WAS or WERE first. Then,
they listen to the song and check their answers. (10´)
T: This is a song about The Beatles. Read the title. What do you think the song is about?
Love, friendship, politics?
S: Love!
T: Very good! It´s a song about love! Read it and choose the correct answer: WAS or WERE.
Then we´ll listen and check! Can someone explain the activity?
(A student explains the activity in their L1)
T: Great!

Then there was/were music and wonderful roses
