Digital technology from AS to A2 work, examples and impact. What you are trying to
achieve for your audience and how did digital technology help?
When I started my AS coursework I had previous experience from GCSE media where we
had to create a magazine. This allowed me to bring my skills in my AS work however not my
A2 work. In A2 when we started creating our music videos I had never used any of the
programs before, for example premiere and after effects, this meant that I had to watch
tutorials and work out how to use it myself with little help from the teachers.
In AS we started using a new program called InDesign which we had never used before as in
GCSE we used Photoshop to create our magazines, using the software wasn’t hard to get used
to as it was very simple and easy to work out. InDesign will also became very useful in A2 as
after we create our video we have to create a digipak of a album and a poster advertising the
album. Creating this on InDesign is a lot easier than creating it on Photoshop as you create all
the documents on sheet as you can add pages etc.
Before we started any of the main task we had to create a blog where we would put all our
research and planning tasks leading up to creating the magazine/ music video. This was a new
website that I had to use but got the hang of it quickly as it is simple and easy to work. Blogs
are a good place to store all your work as it is hard to accidently to delete work and means
you don’t have to waste paper by printing out everything.

Megan discusses her experience using digital technology in her AS and A2 coursework. In AS, she was familiar with using Photoshop from GCSE but learned the new program InDesign, which she found easy to use. InDesign proved useful for later A2 work creating digipaks and posters. For her A2 music videos, Megan had to learn new programs like Premiere and After Effects on her own as teachers provided little help. She also created blogs to store research and planning, finding the website simple to use. Digital technology helped Megan complete her coursework, though learning new programs independently was challenging for her A2 work.
