Routing protocols in mobile ad hoc
1. ROUTING PROTOCOLS IN MOBILE AD-
HOC NETWORKS
Presented By: Meenal Vasantrao Naranje
Guided By: Mr. S. Deshpande
Roll No: 17102A1015
2.
3. Advantages:
Ad-hoc networks have several advantages
over the traditional networks, like:
Ad-hoc networks can have more flexibility.
It is better in mobility.
It can be turn up and turn down in a very short
time.
It can be more economical.
It considered a robust network because of its non-
hierarchical
distributed control and management mechanisms.
7. ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES
Advantages:
Less overhead network
Because it is reactive in nature, AODV can handle
highly dynamic behavior
The connection setup delay is lower
Disadvantages:
Due to on demand traffic is major issue due to RREQ
and RREP packet
It is difficult to major expiry time of a route if no data
packet is transferred
Intermediate node can lead to inconsistent route if the
source sequence number is very old
8. DSR (DYNAMIC SOURCE ROUTING)
Reactive or On Demand
Route discovery cycle used for route finding – on
Demand
Maintenance of active routes
No periodic activity of any kind – Hello Messages
in AODV
Utilizes source routing (entire route is part of the
header)
Use of caches to store routes
13. ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES
Advantages:
Route maintain only between nodes who need to
communicate. Reduce overhead of routing
maintenance.
Route caching reduce route discovery overhead.
Single route may yields many route to the destination.
Disadvantages:
Packet header grows with the route length due to
source routing.
Route reply storm problem.
16. ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES
Advantages:
Path Selection: DSDV maintains only the best path instead
of maintaining multiple paths to every destination. With this,
the amount of space in routing table is reduced.
Simple (almost like Distance Vector)
No latency caused by route discovery
Disadvantages:
Overhead: most routing information never used
It is difficult to determine a time delay for the advertisement
of routes
Traffic Congestion may be an issue depending on the
updating method of routing table.
DSDV is not used for Multi path Routing
17. ZONE ROUTING PROTOCOL
It is Hybrid Protocol
Local topology- proactive routing
External zones-reactive routing
Reduce Search Coast
2 Zones
Intra Zone
Inter Zone
18.
19. ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES
Advantages:
When transmission is required then broadcast is
initiated.
Reactive and proactive both types of routing is possible
Disadvantages:
Lack of hierarchy format
Complex as zone wise routing information maintenance
is difficult.
Zones are overlapped
Editor's Notes
Overhead: most routing information never
used
● Scalability is a major problem
