Persuasive Essay On Zoos
Introductory paragraph:
Introductory paragraph: Did you know that zoos kill 5000 healthy animals a year in Europe its self.
Society today has made it their utmost priority to entertain the crowd that even torturing animals,
snatching them away from their families, and forgetting about their feelings means nothing. Zoos do
not give the warm and comforting environment that animals once used to have. These animals feel
depressed, miserable, and tortured, but are forced to pretend to smile and play in front of the crowd.
Zoos should definitely not be perceived as a place for entertainment for the reason that they deprive
animals of natural habitat, harm animals mentally, and damage them physically. Zoos should be
forbidden as they bring a lot of life threatening harms to animals. ... Show more content on

The same study also found out that Tigers and lions have around 18,000 times less space in zoos
than they would in the wild and Polar bears have well over one million times less space.
Elaboration:
These animals are not experiencing the feeling of living in an open natural place, although zoos
make every effort to expand, it is still not enough to compare with the open vast wild where animals
once used to live. For example In the wild elephants walk about 30 miles a day in herds, in zoos
they don't get enough space for their 30 mile walks and only get a couple of other elephants to be
with. This is unnatural and unfair.
Evidence:
Zoo programs such as (AZA) and (SSP) help conserve endangered species; they capture the
animals, breed them, and then let them

Negative Effects Of Wild Animals
Not only do zoos cause physical damage to animals, but also, they cause mental and emotional
issues in wild animals. After all animals do display signs of consciousness, so they do have feelings
about being locked up in displays and cages around the clock. Recently, a group of animal
researchers signed a declaration proclaiming that animals are self–aware. Alex Halberstadt's article
called "Zoo Animals and Their Discontent" stated, "The Cambridge Declaration on Consciousness
in Human and Nonhuman Animals ––– was signed by a group of leading animal researchers in the
presences of Stephen Hawking. It asserted that mammals, birds, and other creatures like octopuses
possess consciousness, and in all likelihood, emotions and self–awareness." Several animals
remember and feel emotion, so leaving them in a box all day seems slightly torturous. Humans
should have empathy for the contained animals. "It turns out common shore crabs feel and
remember pain, zebra flinches experience REM sleep, fruit–fly brothers cooperate, dolphins and
elephants recognize themselves in mirrors, chimpanzees assist one another without expecting favors
in return, and dogs really do feel elation in their owner's presence" (Halberstadt). These feelings
sometimes have some dangerous effects, as animals can and do act out against their aggressors.
When wild animals kept in captivity act out against captivity, they develop unusual symptoms
known to experts as "zoochosis" in some cases. The article "Zoos" on

The Pros And Cons Of Zoos
During February 2014, Tania, a female Indian Elephant has been shunted around from zoo to zoo,
ending up in the Targu Mures Zoo in Romania. During her time as a captive elephant Tania has
rarely been given time to bond with other members of her species. Tania has been living for 39
years. At the Targu Mures Zoo she is confined into a tiny enclosure, not given the company of any
other elephants, and forced to stand in her own urine and feces. This is due to sporadic, and very
unsanitary cleaning of the practices of the zoo. Tania the elephants story began in 1978 when her
herd was wiped out in the wild. After that she had spent every one of her days looking through the
bars of zoos across the continent. This story and many others is the sad truth of what zoos do to the
animals that live behind their bars. This is why Zoos should be exterminated. In the United
Kingdom there was a welfare concern for all of the elephants. 75% of elephants were overweight,
only 16% could walk normally, and solitary 20% of the elephants were free of foot problems. This is
why zoos do more harm than good. CAPS (captiveanimals.org ) states "Wild animals in zoos suffer
physically and mentally as their complex social, behavioural and physical needs cannot be met in
the unnatural manmade environments." Many animals suffer from being captive in the children's
"fun" center we now call zoos. This captivity can turn into a disease. lcanimal.org states "Many
animals held in captivity begin to form

Hamilton Howard Fish Crime
The Roaring Twenties; an era of unprecedented change, were highlighted by Ford's mass production
of the Model T, the birth of Jazz, the provocative new woman (flapper), and large economic growth.
Unfortunately, not everything during the 1920's was perfect, organized crime was on the rise and so
was one of America's most deranged serial killers. Hamilton Howard "Albert" Fish; also referred to
as the Werewolf of Wysteria, the Brooklyn Vampire, or the Boogey Man, was born on May 19, 1870
in Washington D.C. He is a convicted criminal who preyed on children and his crimes include, but
were not be limited to: child abduction, child rape, serial murders, and cannibalism. This case study
is intended to provide a Criminological perspective on the crimes committed by Albert as well as an
overview of his childhood, important events in his life, the beginning of his crime spree, his most

proceeded to stick a knife into his abdomen his and drink his blood as it drained out. He had also
brought along some old potato sacks which he used to place Billy's head, feet, arms, and hands and
weighing the sacks with stones he tossed them into several bodies of water. He goes on to describe
in the letter that he kept the boys ears, buttocks, and genitals to eat. He then begins; in exact detail,

Animals In Captivity Research Paper
Animals in Captivity
Zoos have been around for many years, the first one opening on July 1, 1987 in Philadelphia, USA.
Although the quality of zoos has changed and developed over the many years since then, some
people believe that the zoos shouldn't exist, including organisations that strive to close down zoos
and return the animals back to their natural habitat.
Even though some zoos have billions invested into them they will never really be able to compete
with an animal's natural habitat. Zoos attempt to replicate an animal's natural habitat but in reality all
they're doing is subjecting the animals to a life in captivity where they're unable to perform most of
their natural instincts, such as hunting, flying, foraging and even choosing their own partner.
Increasing numbers of zoos are using breeding programmes in an attempt to avoid the extinction of
various animals, but the problem behind this is that the animals who are being bred do not get to
choose their own mate and under some circumstances needed to be artificially inseminated. ... Show

Zoochosis is where an animal, in captivity, begins to become stressed or uncomfortable with the
environment that they are subjected to. This can cause the animal to become unwell with zoochosis;
the symptoms of zoochosis can include bar biting, coprophagia which is where an animal consumes
and is playing with excrement, self–mutilation such as the animals pulling their own fur out,
scratching themselves or causing themselves pain and injury, swaying, rocking and pacing. These
are some of the most common symptoms of zoochosis and this happens simply because the animal
is in captivity and they're unable to express themselves in the way they would usually be able to, if
they were in their natural

Hamilton Fish: American Serial Killer
Albert fish also known as Hamilton Fish was born on May 19, 1870. He is known as an American
Serial killer and sadomasochistic cannibal. Many know him as the werewolf of Wisteria. He was
one of the most wicked pedophiles and killer of his time. His name "Albert" came from a dead
sibling. His family had a history of mental illness. Albert's father died in 1875, which led to his
mother putting him into an orphanage. They whipped and beat him but he learned to enjoy the
physical pain. The beatings gave him erections and many of the orphans teased him for it. In 1882,

His life left him and he began hearing voices (Bardsley, Marilyn). The victims of Albert were found
to be either of African American race or mentally retarded because he believed they would not be
missed. One of the first incidents he may have committed was attacking Thomas Bedden, and in
1919, stabbing a mentally retarded boy (Schechter, Harold, and David Everitt). Pain seemed to
delight him, sometimes he would inflict pain on himself or others, his main pleasure being whipped
or paddled. He made his children to paddle him with nails that were an inch and a half long until his
buttocks would bleed. He was far from usual he inserted needles into his body, mostly in the genital
region and would burn himself (Taylor, Troy). On July 11, 1924 he attempted to kidnap eight–year
old Beatrice Kiel by bribing her with money but was stopped by her mother.Forty–six letters were
recovered and entered as evidence in trial. They were supposedly so obscene and vile that the
prosecution refused to make them public. Fish consumed larger amounts of raw meat, which his
children later testified. He collected published material on cannibalism and carried gruesome articles

Albert Fish And What Fueled This Gruesome Behavior
The Disturbed Life of Albert Fish and What Fueled This Gruesome Behavior Albert Fish was born
and raised in Washington, D.C. on May 19th, 1870, to his parents Randall, and Ellen. Fish's father
was American, and his mother was Irish American. His father was forty–three years older than his
mother, and was seventy–five at the time of fishes' birth. Albert was the youngest child of three
siblings: Annie, Walter, and Edwin. He wanted to be named after a dead sibling to escape from the
given nickname "Ham & Eggs" which was given to him at St. John Orphanage where, he spent most
of his childhood." "The family had a history of mental illness." His mother suffered from visual
hallucinations, his brother was in a mental hospital, his sister was diagnosed with mental illness, and
uncle suffered from mania. Fish's father was a boat captain and a fertilizer manufacturer. "He soon
died of a heart attack in 1875 at the Sixth Street Station of the Pennsylvania Railroad in Washington,
D.C." ( Blanco, 2017) Once Ellen, mother found out she put her son in Saint John's Orphanage in
Washington, which he was constantly mistreated and abused. He was so used to the frequent
beatings he found pleasure in physical pain. While living at the orphanage, Fish remarked, "I was
there 'til I was nearly nine, and that's where I got started wrong" (Montaldo, 2017). The brutality

Is Albert Fish A Serial Killer? Essay
Abstract What is a serial killer? Albert Fish was a dangerous serial killer who murdered and
mutilated the bodies of his victims. He committed murder and molested children. He was also a
cannibal whereby he tortured, killed and cut the bodies of his victims, roasted the pieces and ate. He
targeted children because they were the easy target. His experiences in the early childhood at the
orphanage are believed to have facilitated the development of his sadistic behavior. Three of his
known victims that he murdered and mutilated their bodies include Grace Budd, Francis
MacDonald, and Billy Gaffney. Other murders that he was suspected to have committed include
Yetta Abramowitz, Mary Ellen O 'Connor, and Benjamin Collings. He also attempted to lure
Beatrice Kiel and kill her but Beatrice's Parents noticed him and sent him away. The letter Fish
wrote to Grace's mother was used by the police to track him down thus leading to his arrest and
execution. Introduction Albert Fish was a known serial killer and cannibal in the United States. He
was born in 1870 in Washington D.C and his family had a history of mental illness. He was taken to
the orphanage when he was five years and spent most of his early years there where he experienced
major psychological changes (Bardsley, 2012). In the orphanage, Albert was whipped and beaten
frequently, and eventually, he realized he enjoyed the physical pain whereby he experienced

Coprophagia Research Paper
The act of consuming feces is known as coprophagia. While most humans find this disgusting, poo–
eating is a normal behavior in some species. It's rare that a plant is coprophagic, such as certain
cannibalistic plants, but a surprising number of animals partake in poo.
A mother dog will eat the feces of her puppies, because they aren't able to eliminate on their own.
This happens after she licks her puppies to activate the defecation reflex. Ingestion of the feces also
keeps the nest clean. Adult dogs without puppies sometimes eat their own feces, and other dogs'
feces. Some dogs even follow others around, waiting until they defecate so that they can eat the
feces right away. Dogs have also been reported to twist their bodies around so that ... Show more

Fly specks contain much undigested, or partially digested food. A fly will regurgitate some of its
stomach contents after landing on a potentially edible solid substance. The regurgitated liquid
dissolves the substance and creates more liquid for the fly to suck up.
Poo–eating is normal behavior in horses, especially in foals. The feces a foal eats, especially from its
dam, is thought to introduce microorganisms in the gasto–intestinal tract. These microorganisms are
needed to switch from a milk– to a forage–based diet. Other reasons for coprophagia in horses are
boredom, nutritional deficiency, and disease.
Opportunistic omnivores, pigs are known to eat mostly plant matter. But they'll also eat
invertebrates, small mammals, birds, and reptiles. They'll also eat poo. In Medieval Europe, pigs
were used in toilets. The toilet was built raised, and the pig lived below in a cave–like chamber,
eating human waste and kitchen garbage. This practice still exists in some developing parts of the
world. In addition to human waste, pigs will also eat the waste of other animals when it contains bits
of undigested food.
Rabbits are quite adapted to eating their own poo. In addition to their regular feces, rabbit excrete
specialized feces called cecotropes. This soft stool provides nutrition, and they eat this excretion
directly from their

The Importance Of Animals In Zoos
Imagine yourself just chilling around in the wild, the only place you are familiar with, and the next
thing you know, you get taken and put inside a small enclosure which becomes your home. Well,
that is what animals who are taken out of the wild and mostly put inside a zoo feel like. Animals can
receive serious health issues when kept in a zoo, most of the times not treated properly and used for
entertainment rather than educational purposes. I believe that this is an urgent issue and I think that
it is essential for wild animals to stay in the wild and not kept in enclosures.
I believe that animals should not be in zoos because animals will have a high chance of developing a
health issue. Animals, especially Elephants, are not used to being by themselves or in small groups.
In the wild, they usually stay in a pack of 30 or even 40. This can cause animals to feel lonely and
bored without being with their pack. Also, animals are not used to the environment that they are set
in. Yes, yes I know that it can be extremely hard for zoos to remake the natural environment that
animals are usually in, but won't it be much easier for the zoo to remake the wild if they just left the
animals back in the wild? Animals in captivity actually start to develop this health issue named
Zoochosis. In 1992, Bill Travers first used the term 'Zoochosis' to describe an obsessive, repetitive
behavior and described zoo animals behaving strangely as 'Zoochotic'. Behaviors that are
symptomatic of

Abstract
Hamilton (Albert) Fish (1870–1936) was an American serial killer, child rapist, and cannibal. He
was known as the gray man, the werewolf of wisteria, the Brooklyn vampire, the moon maniac, and
the boogey man. Albert (born Hamilton) Fish came from a family seemingly stricken by mental
illness, with six close relative in mental hospitals. At the age nine his father died, and Fish was sent
to an orphanage. At that point Fish experienced bullying, and whippings from caretakers. It wasn't
until three years later that his mother took on a government job and was able to take him back. He
began a relationship with another boy, where he was introduced to urine drinking and feces eating.
In 1890 he moved to New York, where he became a prostitute and began raping young boys. At
some point he became interested in penises themselves and began sexual mutilations. In 1917 Fish's

Fish implied the man was mentally disabled. Ultimately, Kedden was taken by Fish to an abandoned
farmhouse, where Fish began a two week process of torturing him, eventually cutting off half the
man's penis and killing him. Afraid of somebody smelling it, if he took the body with him, cut into
pieces. In 1917 Fish's wife left him for a young handyman, taking nearly everything they owned,
except for their six children. Soon after Fish began having auditory hallucinations. At this time Fish
began asking his children and their friends to use a board to spank him, along with self–harming
himself using needles, planting them in his abdomen and groin. After his death, needles were found

A Brief Look at Hamilton Howard Fish
"I always had a desire to inflict pain on others and to have others inflict pain on me. I always
seemed to enjoy everything that hurt." How would you feel if a man with gray hair and looked like a
ghost walked up on you and made this statement? These are the evil words of man that was known
as a serial killer. Born May 19th of 1870 was a man by the name of Hamilton Howard Fish. Fish the
youngest of four children was born to a young mother and a father by the name of Randall. Fish's
father whom was a boat captain that operated on a boat by the name of Potomac River also suffered
from a type of mania. Hamilton's father at the age of only 80 years old died of a heart attack. This is
where the life of Hamilton Howard Fish began. Not being able to care for herself and a young child
after Fish's dad passed away, Hamilton found himself left at an orphanage in Washington by the
name of Saint John's. At this orphanage Hamilton found himself being beat while naked for
punishment for doing bad things. This is where his life started to drown and he started to develop
feelings of sadomasochism and would also have or get erections and even pleasure from the
beatings that he was receiving for his punishments. Which this lead to other boys making fun of him
as well as bullying him even more than before. At this time in his life, Fish began to run away from
the orphanage as well as wetting the bed that he slept in. With bed wetting being normal, no one
looked for any signs of him to go

Essay about A Child Called It, The Lost Boy and A Man...
For this report, I have read all three of Dave Pelzer's books about his life: A Child Called "It", The
Lost Boy and A Man Named Dave. A Child Called "It" chronicles Dave's life as a child, and is told
from that viewpoint. From his earliest recollections of a relatively happy life with "the Mommy" to
his life and death struggle with "The Mother", this book details the horror of Dave's dehumanizing
existence. Going far beyond "typical" physical, emotional and psychological abuses, Dave's story
tells of intentional starvation, forced coprophagia, poisoning and much more. This volume covers
his life from his earliest memories at age 4 until his rescue at age 12. The Lost Boy picks up the

Dave took food from other children's lunches at school in order to survive. His schoolmates were
aware of this, and it served to set him further apart from them. The children called him names and he
had no friends. Two of the disabilities that were apparent to me while reading these books were the
alcoholism of Dave's parents and Dave's developmental issues. Application of Developmental
Theories Families are systems in which each individual has a unique relationship with the other
individuals in the family. Dave's place in his family was, indeed, unique. The subsystem consisting
of Dave and his mother had a foundation in the boundaries set by the mother. Dave's role in the
family was, essentially, that he was not a part of the family. Not only that, Dave's identity was
stripped away by his mother. At the onset of the abuse, she began referring to him as "the boy." As
the situation worsened, she referred to him as "It", hence the title of the first book in this series. At
the time of Dave's rescue, he exhibited two of the four behavioral indicators of abuse that were
established in 1979 by the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare. He exhibited "overly
compliant, passive and undemanding behaviors aimed at maintaining a low profile, avoiding any

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Heart Disease
Heart disease is common among dogs – almost as common as it is in humans. If you own a dog, and
you have some concerns about your dog 's health, it is important to understand what type of heart
disease complications your dog may experience, especially in response to infection, illness, diet, and
lack of exercise. For many dogs the symptoms and complications of heart disease are similar to
what you would expect to see in human symptoms. Heart disease in dog 's can be attributed to
congenital complications as well. Typically, when your dog is young, you will want to have your
dog evaluated to determine if there are any congenital complications that may pre–dispose your dog
to heart complications early in life. When compounded by heart disease development, due to poor
diet or other infections, your dog will typically show signs of poor tolerance for exercise, have some
swelling around the stomach and may even show signs of weight loss. When evaluated, your dog 's
veterinarian is going to listen for the presence of a gallop heart sound which is indicative of swelling
in and around the heart. The gallop heart sound will be a sound that is similar to a third heart beat or
echo and can typically only be heard with a stethoscope. Heart murmurs in dogs are also quite
common and while they can, to some extent, be corrected with surgery, most dogs will live a long
time with heart murmur. But, when heart disease is a concern, you will want to address the heart
murmur issues as well.

Forensic Psychologist: What Is Necrophilia?
What Is Necrophilia? After my interest in becoming a Forensic Psychologist grew, I began to learn
more and more about the odd mental disabilities some people have. One of the most interesting ones
that I have chose to write about as well as, something that stands out to me is: What is the desire of
Necrophilia? Also known as thanatophilia, in correlation to Thanatos, the Greek demon
personification of death, necrophilia is described as an erotic attraction to corpses, (Webster's New

If the "disorder" is to thank behind the survival of R.proboscidea, then humans too could have
successfully evolved when functional necrophilia was practiced, effectively passing the behavior
over billions of generations to present day. However, society today refutes this possibility because of
how morally disturbing it truly is. Humans have evolved much more effective ways of reproducing,
essentially making functional necrophilia an obsolete practice. Furthermore, functional necrophilia
only works in the small Amazonian frog because the male is able to easily extract the eggs from the
female, where as humans fetuses must be fertilized inside the female, where they are nourished
through the living mother. On the other hand, what if a woman were to engage in functional
necrophilia? To her dismay, a priapism occurs in about one of every three cadavers, yet the only
discharge known to appear has been blood, urine, or prostatic fluid. The prostatic fluid does not
contain sperm, which can only be ejaculated through an arousal of the penile nerve endings and
orgasm, so functional necrophilia is also flawed from the woman's perspective too. By debunking
the evolutionary standpoint, which seems to be the only slightly ethical one, necrophilia must be
more of a mental set rather than a reproductive advantage for

in an orphanage where he was regularly abused and according to Fish, that's where he ''got started
wrong" because he began to enjoy the physical pain that the whippings brought (Bardsley, 2012;
Wilson, 2004). Fish stated: "We were unmercifully whipped. I saw boys doing many things they
should not have done" (Wilson, 2004). Researchers have settled that the abuse received by his
teacher in the orphanage was a severe form shame punishment and influenced Albert Fish's claims
that he had always wanted to inflict pain on to himself and others (Schechter, 2003). It was in St.
John's Orphanage that Fish would discover that feeling pain and witnessing others being caused pain
would sexually arouse him (Wilson & Seaman, 2004). Learning to enjoy watching his peers in pain
could have contributed to his attraction to picquerism, and to castrating, sodomizing, and raping his
victims

Zoos And The Conservation Of Animals
A family is enjoying a trip to their local zoo when they stop to look at the tigers. The child sprints
over to exhibit with excitement; he notices a red sign stuck the glass of the enclosure which reads,
Endangered. "Daddy, if the zoo is keeping the tigers in a cage in order to save them, when will they
let them back into the wild to live free?" Based on statistics from public zoos across America, the
unfortunate answer to this question is a resounding '"Never." It has become noticeably evident that
zoos are not a current resource for the protection of rare and endangered species. Animals should not
be kept in zoos, because they fail at the conservation of animal species, provide little or no
education about habitat and the behavior of animals, and harm the animals physically and mentally.
Primarily, zoos fail at the conservation of animal species. Zoos claim that certain species would
become extinct if places like zoos did not exist, but they ultimately fail at the conservation of animal
species. Animals who are endangered will likely never be released back into natural habitats ("Zoos:
Pitiful Prisons" par. 9). The Author of Captive Animal Protection Society states, "Many zoos have
no contact of any kind with any reintroduction program," meaning that once the animals are
introduced to zoos, they are likely to remain there. One U.S. study found no compelling evidence for
zoos and aquariums to make the claim that they promote interest of conservation upon conversing

Zoos Inhumane Research Paper
Zoos today are inhumane and cruel and should not be allowed in our society. I agree with the
statement that zoos are inhumane and should not be kept in captivity for the people's enjoyment. I
believe that it is cruel to hold these animals captive and not let them roam freely like they would in
their natural habitat. I also believe that by holding these animals captive, society is taking away the
rights of these animals to roam and is inflicting major side effects on these animals physical and
mental health. Not only are these animals being held in inadequate conditions, but the effects
humans have on them is also cruel and inhumane. Animals that are held in captivity for the majority
of their life will never get to experience the outside world in which they should rightfully be living
in. These animals are held in cages or sanctuaries that are not sustainable for the living conditions in
which they would have outside of the zoo. By living in such a small environment, animals
experience a condition called "zoochosis." This condition causes an animal to experience "bar
biting, coprophagia, self–mutilation, circling, rocking, sawing, pacing, rolling, twisting, nodding of

Even children are subject to visiting a zoo for the enjoyment of seeing the animals. By humans
visiting these animals and throwing items at them, yelling at them and sometimes even beating on
the glass, they are causing the animal to become very stressed and cause an effect of the mental
health of that animal. As stated in the article List of Pros and Cons of Zoos, "This kind of behavior
has an extremely negative effect on animals, and it can often result in psychological damage to
animals, and sometimes it can even prove to be fatal." An animal should never have to endure such
harsh treatment and should never experience these livings condition when they were not created to

Persuasive Essay On Zoos

  • 1. Persuasive Essay On Zoos Introductory paragraph: Introductory paragraph: Did you know that zoos kill 5000 healthy animals a year in Europe its self. Society today has made it their utmost priority to entertain the crowd that even torturing animals, snatching them away from their families, and forgetting about their feelings means nothing. Zoos do not give the warm and comforting environment that animals once used to have. These animals feel depressed, miserable, and tortured, but are forced to pretend to smile and play in front of the crowd. Zoos should definitely not be perceived as a place for entertainment for the reason that they deprive animals of natural habitat, harm animals mentally, and damage them physically. Zoos should be forbidden as they bring a lot of life threatening harms to animals. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The same study also found out that Tigers and lions have around 18,000 times less space in zoos than they would in the wild and Polar bears have well over one million times less space. Elaboration: These animals are not experiencing the feeling of living in an open natural place, although zoos make every effort to expand, it is still not enough to compare with the open vast wild where animals once used to live. For example In the wild elephants walk about 30 miles a day in herds, in zoos they don't get enough space for their 30 mile walks and only get a couple of other elephants to be with. This is unnatural and unfair. Evidence: Zoo programs such as (AZA) and (SSP) help conserve endangered species; they capture the animals, breed them, and then let them ... • 5. Negative Effects Of Wild Animals Not only do zoos cause physical damage to animals, but also, they cause mental and emotional issues in wild animals. After all animals do display signs of consciousness, so they do have feelings about being locked up in displays and cages around the clock. Recently, a group of animal researchers signed a declaration proclaiming that animals are self–aware. Alex Halberstadt's article called "Zoo Animals and Their Discontent" stated, "The Cambridge Declaration on Consciousness in Human and Nonhuman Animals ––– was signed by a group of leading animal researchers in the presences of Stephen Hawking. It asserted that mammals, birds, and other creatures like octopuses possess consciousness, and in all likelihood, emotions and self–awareness." Several animals remember and feel emotion, so leaving them in a box all day seems slightly torturous. Humans should have empathy for the contained animals. "It turns out common shore crabs feel and remember pain, zebra flinches experience REM sleep, fruit–fly brothers cooperate, dolphins and elephants recognize themselves in mirrors, chimpanzees assist one another without expecting favors in return, and dogs really do feel elation in their owner's presence" (Halberstadt). These feelings sometimes have some dangerous effects, as animals can and do act out against their aggressors. When wild animals kept in captivity act out against captivity, they develop unusual symptoms known to experts as "zoochosis" in some cases. The article "Zoos" on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. The Pros And Cons Of Zoos During February 2014, Tania, a female Indian Elephant has been shunted around from zoo to zoo, ending up in the Targu Mures Zoo in Romania. During her time as a captive elephant Tania has rarely been given time to bond with other members of her species. Tania has been living for 39 years. At the Targu Mures Zoo she is confined into a tiny enclosure, not given the company of any other elephants, and forced to stand in her own urine and feces. This is due to sporadic, and very unsanitary cleaning of the practices of the zoo. Tania the elephants story began in 1978 when her herd was wiped out in the wild. After that she had spent every one of her days looking through the bars of zoos across the continent. This story and many others is the sad truth of what zoos do to the animals that live behind their bars. This is why Zoos should be exterminated. In the United Kingdom there was a welfare concern for all of the elephants. 75% of elephants were overweight, only 16% could walk normally, and solitary 20% of the elephants were free of foot problems. This is why zoos do more harm than good. CAPS (captiveanimals.org ) states "Wild animals in zoos suffer physically and mentally as their complex social, behavioural and physical needs cannot be met in the unnatural manmade environments." Many animals suffer from being captive in the children's "fun" center we now call zoos. This captivity can turn into a disease. lcanimal.org states "Many animals held in captivity begin to form ... Hamilton Howard Fish Crime The Roaring Twenties; an era of unprecedented change, were highlighted by Ford's mass production of the Model T, the birth of Jazz, the provocative new woman (flapper), and large economic growth. Unfortunately, not everything during the 1920's was perfect, organized crime was on the rise and so was one of America's most deranged serial killers. Hamilton Howard "Albert" Fish; also referred to as the Werewolf of Wysteria, the Brooklyn Vampire, or the Boogey Man, was born on May 19, 1870 in Washington D.C. He is a convicted criminal who preyed on children and his crimes include, but were not be limited to: child abduction, child rape, serial murders, and cannibalism. This case study is intended to provide a Criminological perspective on the crimes committed by Albert as well as an overview of his childhood, important events in his life, the beginning of his crime spree, his most notable cases, and finally his capture and punishment. He proceeded to stick a knife into his abdomen his and drink his blood as it drained out. He had also brought along some old potato sacks which he used to place Billy's head, feet, arms, and hands and weighing the sacks with stones he tossed them into several bodies of water. • 17. Animals In Captivity Research Paper Animals in Captivity Zoos have been around for many years, the first one opening on July 1, 1987 in Philadelphia, USA. Although the quality of zoos has changed and developed over the many years since then, some people believe that the zoos shouldn't exist, including organisations that strive to close down zoos and return the animals back to their natural habitat. Even though some zoos have billions invested into them they will never really be able to compete with an animal's natural habitat. Zoos attempt to replicate an animal's natural habitat but in reality all they're doing is subjecting the animals to a life in captivity where they're unable to perform most of their natural instincts, such as hunting, flying, foraging and even choosing their own partner. Increasing numbers of zoos are using breeding programmes in an attempt to avoid the extinction of various animals, but the problem behind this is that the animals who are being bred do not get to choose their own mate and under some circumstances needed to be artificially inseminated. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Zoochosis is where an animal, in captivity, begins to become stressed or uncomfortable with the environment that they are subjected to. This can cause the animal to become unwell with zoochosis; the symptoms of zoochosis can include bar biting, coprophagia which is where an animal consumes and is playing with excrement, self–mutilation such as the animals pulling their own fur out, scratching themselves or causing themselves pain and injury, swaying, rocking and pacing. These are some of the most common symptoms of zoochosis and this happens simply because the animal is in captivity and they're unable to express themselves in the way they would usually be able to, if they were in their natural ... Pain seemed to delight him, sometimes he would inflict pain on himself or others, his main pleasure being whipped or paddled. He made his children to paddle him with nails that were an inch and a half long until his buttocks would bleed. He was far from usual he inserted needles into his body, mostly in the genital region and would burn himself (Taylor, Troy). On July 11, 1924 he attempted to kidnap eight–year old Beatrice Kiel by bribing her with money but was stopped by her mother.Forty–six letters were recovered and entered as evidence in trial. • 34. Is Albert Fish A Serial Killer? Essay Abstract What is a serial killer? Albert Fish was a dangerous serial killer who murdered and mutilated the bodies of his victims. He committed murder and molested children. He was also a cannibal whereby he tortured, killed and cut the bodies of his victims, roasted the pieces and ate. He targeted children because they were the easy target. His experiences in the early childhood at the orphanage are believed to have facilitated the development of his sadistic behavior. Three of his known victims that he murdered and mutilated their bodies include Grace Budd, Francis MacDonald, and Billy Gaffney. Other murders that he was suspected to have committed include Yetta Abramowitz, Mary Ellen O 'Connor, and Benjamin Collings. He also attempted to lure Beatrice Kiel and kill her but Beatrice's Parents noticed him and sent him away. The letter Fish wrote to Grace's mother was used by the police to track him down thus leading to his arrest and execution. Introduction Albert Fish was a known serial killer and cannibal in the United States. He was born in 1870 in Washington D.C and his family had a history of mental illness. He was taken to the orphanage when he was five years and spent most of his early years there where he experienced major psychological changes (Bardsley, 2012). • 38. Coprophagia Research Paper The act of consuming feces is known as coprophagia. While most humans find this disgusting, poo– eating is a normal behavior in some species. It's rare that a plant is coprophagic, such as certain cannibalistic plants, but a surprising number of animals partake in poo. A mother dog will eat the feces of her puppies, because they aren't able to eliminate on their own. This happens after she licks her puppies to activate the defecation reflex. Ingestion of the feces also keeps the nest clean. Adult dogs without puppies sometimes eat their own feces, and other dogs' feces. Some dogs even follow others around, waiting until they defecate so that they can eat the feces right away. Dogs have also been reported to twist their bodies around so that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fly specks contain much undigested, or partially digested food. A fly will regurgitate some of its stomach contents after landing on a potentially edible solid substance. The regurgitated liquid dissolves the substance and creates more liquid for the fly to suck up. Poo–eating is normal behavior in horses, especially in foals. The feces a foal eats, especially from its dam, is thought to introduce microorganisms in the gasto–intestinal tract. These microorganisms are needed to switch from a milk– to a forage–based diet. Other reasons for coprophagia in horses are boredom, nutritional deficiency, and disease. Opportunistic omnivores, pigs are known to eat mostly plant matter. But they'll also eat invertebrates, small mammals, birds, and reptiles. They'll also eat poo. In Medieval Europe, pigs were used in toilets. The toilet was built raised, and the pig lived below in a cave–like chamber, eating human waste and kitchen garbage. This practice still exists in some developing parts of the world. In addition to human waste, pigs will also eat the waste of other animals when it contains bits of undigested food. Rabbits are quite adapted to eating their own poo. In addition to their regular feces, rabbit excrete specialized feces called cecotropes. This soft stool provides nutrition, and they eat this excretion directly from their ... The Importance Of Animals In Zoos Imagine yourself just chilling around in the wild, the only place you are familiar with, and the next thing you know, you get taken and put inside a small enclosure which becomes your home. Well, that is what animals who are taken out of the wild and mostly put inside a zoo feel like. Animals can receive serious health issues when kept in a zoo, most of the times not treated properly and used for entertainment rather than educational purposes. I believe that this is an urgent issue and I think that it is essential for wild animals to stay in the wild and not kept in enclosures. I believe that animals should not be in zoos because animals will have a high chance of developing a health issue. Animals, especially Elephants, are not used to being by themselves or in small groups. In the wild, they usually stay in a pack of 30 or even 40. This can cause animals to feel lonely and bored without being with their pack. Also, animals are not used to the environment that they are set in. Yes, yes I know that it can be extremely hard for zoos to remake the natural environment that animals are usually in, but won't it be much easier for the zoo to remake the wild if they just left the animals back in the wild? Animals in captivity actually start to develop this health issue named Zoochosis. In 1992, Bill Travers first used the term 'Zoochosis' to describe an obsessive, repetitive behavior and described zoo animals behaving strangely as 'Zoochotic'. Behaviors that are symptomatic of ... Albert Fish Research Paper Outline The Serial Killer Albert Fish Noah Gephart Moore Criminology 210 6/28/2015 Louis Martinez Abstract Hamilton (Albert) Fish (1870–1936) was an American serial killer, child rapist, and cannibal. He was known as the gray man, the werewolf of wisteria, the Brooklyn vampire, the moon maniac, and the boogey man. Albert (born Hamilton) Fish came from a family seemingly stricken by mental illness, with six close relative in mental hospitals. At the age nine his father died, and Fish was sent to an orphanage. At that point Fish experienced bullying, and whippings from caretakers. It wasn't until three years later that his mother took on a government job and was able to take him back. He began a relationship with another boy, where he was introduced to urine drinking and feces eating. In 1890 he moved to New York, where he became a prostitute and began raping young boys. Not being able to care for herself and a young child after Fish's dad passed away, Hamilton found himself left at an orphanage in Washington by the name of Saint John's. At this orphanage Hamilton found himself being beat while naked for punishment for doing bad things. This is where his life started to drown and he started to develop feelings of sadomasochism and would also have or get erections and even pleasure from the beatings that he was receiving for his punishments. Which this lead to other boys making fun of him as well as bullying him even more than before. A Child Called "It" chronicles Dave's life as a child, and is told from that viewpoint. From his earliest recollections of a relatively happy life with "the Mommy" to his life and death struggle with "The Mother", this book details the horror of Dave's dehumanizing existence. Going far beyond "typical" physical, emotional and psychological abuses, Dave's story tells of intentional starvation, forced coprophagia, poisoning and much more. This volume covers his life from his earliest memories at age 4 until his rescue at age 12. The Lost Boy picks up the story where the first book leaves off, following ... His schoolmates were aware of this, and it served to set him further apart from them. The children called him names and he had no friends. Two of the disabilities that were apparent to me while reading these books were the alcoholism of Dave's parents and Dave's developmental issues. Application of Developmental Theories Families are systems in which each individual has a unique relationship with the other individuals in the family. Dave's place in his family was, indeed, unique. The subsystem consisting of Dave and his mother had a foundation in the boundaries set by the mother. Dave's role in the family was, essentially, that he was not a part of the family. Not only that, Dave's identity was stripped away by his mother. At the onset of the abuse, she began referring to him as "the boy." As the situation worsened, she referred to him as "It", hence the title of the first book in this series. At the time of Dave's rescue, he exhibited two of the four behavioral indicators of abuse that were established in 1979 by the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare. • 58. Symptoms And Symptoms Of Heart Disease Heart disease is common among dogs – almost as common as it is in humans. If you own a dog, and you have some concerns about your dog 's health, it is important to understand what type of heart disease complications your dog may experience, especially in response to infection, illness, diet, and lack of exercise. For many dogs the symptoms and complications of heart disease are similar to what you would expect to see in human symptoms. Heart disease in dog 's can be attributed to congenital complications as well. Typically, when your dog is young, you will want to have your dog evaluated to determine if there are any congenital complications that may pre–dispose your dog to heart complications early in life. When compounded by heart disease development, due to poor diet or other infections, your dog will typically show signs of poor tolerance for exercise, have some swelling around the stomach and may even show signs of weight loss. When evaluated, your dog 's veterinarian is going to listen for the presence of a gallop heart sound which is indicative of swelling in and around the heart. The gallop heart sound will be a sound that is similar to a third heart beat or echo and can typically only be heard with a stethoscope. Heart murmurs in dogs are also quite common and while they can, to some extent, be corrected with surgery, most dogs will live a long time with heart murmur. But, when heart disease is a concern, you will want to address the heart murmur issues as well. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After my interest in becoming a Forensic Psychologist grew, I began to learn more and more about the odd mental disabilities some people have. One of the most interesting ones that I have chose to write about as well as, something that stands out to me is: What is the desire of Necrophilia? Also known as thanatophilia, in correlation to Thanatos, the Greek demon personification of death, necrophilia is described as an erotic attraction to corpses, (Webster's New Dictionary 199). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the "disorder" is to thank behind the survival of R.proboscidea, then humans too could have successfully evolved when functional necrophilia was practiced, effectively passing the behavior over billions of generations to present day. However, society today refutes this possibility because of how morally disturbing it truly is. Humans have evolved much more effective ways of reproducing, essentially making functional necrophilia an obsolete practice. Furthermore, functional necrophilia only works in the small Amazonian frog because the male is able to easily extract the eggs from the female, where as humans fetuses must be fertilized inside the female, where they are nourished through the living mother. On the other hand, what if a woman were to engage in functional necrophilia? To her dismay, a priapism occurs in about one of every three cadavers, yet the only discharge known to appear has been blood, urine, or prostatic fluid. The prostatic fluid does not contain sperm, which can only be ejaculated through an arousal of the penile nerve endings and orgasm, so functional necrophilia is also flawed from the woman's perspective too. By debunking the evolutionary standpoint, which seems to be the only slightly ethical one, necrophilia must be more of a mental set rather than a reproductive advantage for ... The child sprints over to exhibit with excitement; he notices a red sign stuck the glass of the enclosure which reads, Endangered. "Daddy, if the zoo is keeping the tigers in a cage in order to save them, when will they let them back into the wild to live free?" Based on statistics from public zoos across America, the unfortunate answer to this question is a resounding '"Never." It has become noticeably evident that zoos are not a current resource for the protection of rare and endangered species. Animals should not be kept in zoos, because they fail at the conservation of animal species, provide little or no education about habitat and the behavior of animals, and harm the animals physically and mentally. Primarily, zoos fail at the conservation of animal species. Zoos claim that certain species would become extinct if places like zoos did not exist, but they ultimately fail at the conservation of animal species. Animals who are endangered will likely never be released back into natural habitats ("Zoos: Pitiful Prisons" par. 9). The Author of Captive Animal Protection Society states, "Many zoos have no contact of any kind with any reintroduction program," meaning that once the animals are introduced to zoos, they are likely to remain there. I agree with the statement that zoos are inhumane and should not be kept in captivity for the people's enjoyment. I believe that it is cruel to hold these animals captive and not let them roam freely like they would in their natural habitat. I also believe that by holding these animals captive, society is taking away the rights of these animals to roam and is inflicting major side effects on these animals physical and mental health. Not only are these animals being held in inadequate conditions, but the effects humans have on them is also cruel and inhumane. Animals that are held in captivity for the majority of their life will never get to experience the outside world in which they should rightfully be living in. These animals are held in cages or sanctuaries that are not sustainable for the living conditions in which they would have outside of the zoo.
