2. Rock example 1
In this example we can see that the contents page
features one, large image supported by a strapline.
The image is of a recognisable Rock artist which will
instantly help draw in fans of Rock. His style
represents what many people would consider a ‘rock
look’ through his tattoos, lip piercing, eye makeup and
dark hair and clothing. He is shown in a close up shot
that takes up about half of the page. It could be said
that his facial expression is intriguing as it may make
people wonder why he looks confused. This can
therefore encourage people to read on further about
his story. Another thing I noticed about this content
page is that it only gives the page numbers of the main
features instead of all of the stories. I believe that this
is quite unusual and not very conventional and
therefore I will not be following this method.
3. Rock example 2
In this example from Kerrang we can see that it includes
many more images. It features one main image that
takes up about a quarter of the page. In this shot
Dragonforce is shown in a mid shot featuring an electric
guitar – an instrument heavily associated with Rock
music. There is also a small, close up image of the editor
above her letter which allows the readers to put a face
to the name, however this image may also be the front
page of that issue of the magazine. As well as this there
are also some supporting images for the contents lists
and some images for a promotion. Finally there are a
couple of ‘screenshots’ of other pages up by the image
of Dragonforce which helps promote the magazine
further encouraging people to read on and purchase the
magazine.
4. Overall Analysis
After looking at examples of contents pages and the images they use I have learnt a lot of things. One thing
is that it varies from magazine to magazine as to how many images they use and what of.This usually
depends on their house style as each magazine tends to follow the same look and layout from issue to issue.
Images can also be used for adverts/promotions as well as support for stories and content lists. From
discovering this I have decided that I will include between 3-6 pictures and potentially some for a
promotion. I believe that in doing this I will create a authentic and professional looking Rock magazine.
