1. Target audience
I believe I will target my film at a rating of 15; research shows that most horror/thriller movies are
rated 15 and therefore I think this will be an appropriate age to certificate my film at.
My film will be aimed mainly at teenagers of age 15-18 as it is shown that teenagers are the most
common horror watchers. Research has shown that teenagers enjoy the thrill and adrenaline rush
they get from watching something that scares them. Having a younger audience also means they are
less susceptible to have negative comments and more susceptible to believing what they are seeing,
older people are much more likely to have negativity toward the film whereas the young will simply
enjoy the thrill.
However, it will be open to any age. I believe that mainly teens will come in groups to watch the
horror, making the film be spread by word of mouth, bringing in more viewers.
Typically I have chosen the most stereotypical teenager when designing my avatar however,
obviously not all teenagers will look the same. For the females I have chosen the typical styles of
clothing: plain jeans and a plain top with little jewellery and stylish hair and for the males: black/blue
clothing and short messy hair.
Using the target audience ABC1 scale I can see that my target audience will most probably fall within
the category D (working class). As the target audience are teenagers of the age 15-18 they will not
be of high status as they will not have a full time job therefore placing them within this cate gory.
This is also due to the level of thrill that the working class can get off a relatively cheap price of a
horror movie. A middle class rated individual is much more likely to need the feel of satisfaction
from a romance or comedy genre.
