LSC Women's Soccer Weekly Release (09/07/16)
1. LSC SOCCER
The season is in progress for all seven Lone Star Conference soccer teams. Angelo State and Texas Woman’s are
both unbeaten after one week of non-conference action.
The women’s teams are 5-6-4 overall this season. The squads are currently 4-4-3 combined versus
Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference teams, and 0-1 against the Heartland Conference, which are the other
conferences in the NCAA South Central Region.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
OFFENSIVE
Demi Tsambasis, Angelo State University, SR, Forward, Temecula, California, Greate Oak
Tsambasis provided the offense for the No. 16 Angelo State soccer team’s 2-0 start. The senior scored four goals
and was the only LSC player to score multiple goals during the opening weekend. She scored two goals in both
matches including two in a 24-second span versus UC-Colorado Springs. The forward had seven of her 11 shots
hit on goal for a .636 percentage.
DEFENSIVE
Samantha Jimenez, Texas Woman’s University, SO, Duncanville, Texas, Duncanville HS
Jimenez registered a shutout and led Texas Woman’s to two wins to open the season. The sophomore recorded
a dozen saves in the wins over regional opponents CSU-Pueblo and Regis.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Lauren Bradford, Texas Woman’s University, scored the game winner for Texas Woman’s in the 59th minute
against Regis in her Pioneer debut while coming off of the bench.
Marlene va Mourik, West Texas A&M University, the freshman midfielder, was one of the few bright spots
for a Lady Buffs offense that struggled to find any rhythm during the first weekend of the season. She had her
best chance of the weekend against No. 23 Colorado Mines when she found space inside the box but her shot
was denied by Sam Zumbro.
Shay Williams, Angelo State University, anchored a defensive that helped the No. 16 Angelo State soccer
team to a 2-0 record. Williams was key to the Belles only allowing one goal and helping the team to their first
shutout against Adams State. Williams helped offensively with an assist on one of Demi Tsambasis goals against
Adams State. The Belles held their two opponents to just 17 shots and only seven on goal.
Marissa Torres, Eastern New Mexico University, notched one of the top performances in ENMU history, with
11 saves in the season opener. Her performance preserved a double-overtime scoreless tie at Western State.
She followed with a pair of saves against Fort Lewis.
Courtney Dippel, West Texas A&M University, the sophomore from Belton made three keys saves in
Saturday’s match against No. 23 Colorado Mines to keep the Lady Buffs within one.
