It Is Impossible To Create A Dystopian Society
According to the Webster Dictionary the definition of utopia is "...a place of ideal perfection
especially in laws, government, and social conditions..." (Merriam–Webster) . If utopia is really
perfection what happens when there is trouble in a utopia? Does that utopia suddenly become a
dystopia because it is not as perfect as it may seem? Thomas More's Utopia included these
characteristics, it also contained some unfavorable characteristics as well. A few of these dystopian
characteristics include slavery, land conquering, and social isolation when sick (More). Although
there are many characteristics of dystopia are intertwined with the utopian characteristics they are of

Every Utopia has certain characteristics that are almost a universal theme, but many of More's
characteristics were new for the age that he was writing in. Many universal themes included the
ideas of having an abundant amount of food, and shelter, and the lack of fear. The residents of
More's island were able to achieve many of these ideas especially having an abundant amount of
food. This abundance of food offers many different advantages to the residents. This food limits the
amount of fighting over land between residences. Without the fear of food need the scramble for
land disappears. Another advantage of More's island is that the residents are eating out of a
communal pantry, which limits the stress of people. By having a communal pantry the residents do
not need to constantly worry about farming, hunting, scavenging because they are all together

Utopia Vs Dystopian Society
As time goes on, attempts at a utopian society have failed and that means that not only have utopias
been created but that dystopias have arrised. Each one is set and planned to be a utopia that only
ends up taking another course and turning into a dystopian society. Utopia simply means "an ideal
place or state", where as a dystopia is the opposite ("utopia"). Dystopias is "a society characterized
by human misery, as squalor, oppression, disease, and overcrowding" ("dystopia"). Utopias usually
end up becoming dystopias because everyone has their own vision of what they want their "perfect"
place to be. Somebody's perfect form of life is different than another person's form or vision. A
utopia is supposed to accommodate to everyone in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They believe that their life is fine and there is nothing that they should worry about in Oceania. A
little farther into the book Orwell mentions, "If you want to keep a secret, you must also hide it from
yourself"(Orwell). This tells us that even if the citizens of Oceania even tried to think of a way to
rebel against Big Brother it would not work. By the time they finished their plan they would execute
in order to take back control of their society the Thought Police would have already caught them and
they would be in prison or a camp for thought crime. The people are under so much control that they
think it would be better off if they don't rebel. They care content and perfectly fine with the way
they live because they know if they do rebel then it won't turn out very well. We see that the
government controls them with slogans and doublespeak. The proles are content with life and that's
how Big Brother wants it to be. If they stay content and ignorant then the government already has
full control over them and they are certain that everything is amazing.
Oceania depicts traits of a dystopia by keeping constant surveillance on their citizens and destroying
free thought. Winston informs us, "It was terribly dangerous to let your thoughts wander when you
were in any public place or within range of a telescreen. The smallest thing could give you away. A

Pros And Cons Of Living In A Dystopian Society
Introduction
Utopias and dystopias are both literary genres that explore the social and political
structures of a specific society.
A utopia is a perfect world or paradise. It is an imaginary place where there is no poverty,
disease, discrimination or war. Utopias consist of peaceful governments that have ideal economic
and social conditions. All citizens are equal, there is access to education, and healthcare, and the
environment is safe for all that live there.
A dystopia is the opposite of utopia; it is an imperfect world where things have gone
wrong. In a dystopian world people are usually controlled by an oppressive government. The
government uses lies and propaganda to control the minds of the citizens. Many things are ... Show

A man named Hugh Conway
finds himself hijacked and whisked away to paradise: Shangri–La, a place where the air is clean
and the living is natural and spiritual and, moderate. Shangri–La is a place where people live
naturally long lives, hundreds of years, in peace, in love, and at one with nature. The defining
characteristic is inner peace, love, and a sense of purpose for those that can find it.
Another example of a utopia is The Giver by Lois Lowery. The Giver is the story of a
boy named Jonas that lives in a community that has converted to Sameness. In order to preserve
structure and order, things like color, climate, and memory, have been eradicated. Jonas is the
one person that has been chosen to store all the memories from the past, of the time before
Sameness. Jonas experiences a multitude of new thoughts, feelings and experiences as the
Receiver of Memory and he has to decide what to do with his new found knowledge. The
defining characteristic is that everyone is equal.
An example of a dystopia is The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. The Hunger Games
is a dystopia that is set in the country of Panem. Panem consists of citizens that live in

Similarities Between Utopia And Dystopian Society
What do you know about a Utopian and Dystopian society? Some people may think that a Utopian
society such as ¨The Giver¨ society is more significant because the society has control and equality
but why? The society that is proclaimed to be perfect isn´t so perfect after all. The Giver society and
our society today have many things that are different such as leadership, freedom, and laws. But also
have some things in common. The Givers society and the society we live in today have differences
but also similarities such as who is the leader or figurehead in the community. The leader in our
society is the President. The President approves or veto´s the laws that the branches of government
make. But in ¨The Giver¨ the figurehead is The Chief

Final Paper A utopian society is seen as the ideal future for the world. However, very few people can
actually agree on what this utopian society should look like or how it should be brought about. To
make things more complicated, some people's view of a utopian world is another's view of a
dystopia one. Yet, by understanding and working with those of differing views, it is possible to at
the very least take a large step towards creating that utopia world. I believe that this first step is to
have a world where the human race manages to coexist with nature; a world where wildlife
conservation and mass extinctions are no longer a major issue. As this is the only Earth we have and
the other animals ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is likely due to out–group degradation. We tend to not feel as motivated to help people who are
part of a different social or cultural group compared to those who are part of our own group (Cikara
et al., 2011). This disconnect would definitely increase when the differences span across species and
not just social or cultural groups. Therefore, to even begin getting people to care about the human–
induced plight experienced by animals, I will have to get people to see animals as part of their in–
group. This can be done in a number of ways. While I can definitely work on getting people to take
the perspective of animals by running simulations or increasing contact with wild animals as has
been shown to work in the past with different human social groups (Cikara et al., 2011), it is not
really feasible to attempt to do this for the whole world. A better way to achieve this goal might be
to create fictional stories that have the main characters interacting with animals that have been
driven from there homes by humans or have lost their family members due to human influences to
the environment as fictional story–telling where the main character interacts with stigmatized groups
has been shown to decrease out–group degradation (Vezzali et al., 2015). This would also make it
easy for the whole world to have access to the stories without having to directly engage with every
social group in the world. However, this decrease in out–group degradation only really occurred
when discussion sessions occurred after reading the passages, so these discussion sessions would
also likely be necessary (Vezzali et al.,

Pros And Cons Of A Dystopian Society
Many of us focus on trying to see the positive side of things, but the truth is that sometimes we need
to open our eyes, and notice the negative activities surrounding our world. Once we comprehend
what is negatively affecting our world, then we should find a way to fix it, and shape the world.
Finally, after we have done all of that, then maybe we can have a better world, but having a utopian
society just seems way out of our reach. A dystopian society, just like the one in the novel divergent,
definetely is different from our modern–day society, but our society dosen't neceseraly stay behind
On the novel divergent, the society seems out of control, it feels like it is a place where you can't be

"The choice for mankind lies between freedom and happiness and for the great bulk of mankind,
happiness is better" (Orwell 262). For many people a perfect Utopia requires both happiness and
freedom, but what is a Utopia? A Utopia is a made up place or state, in which everything in it is
considered to be perfect. But on the other hand we have a Dystopia, which is generally what Utopias
become. Dystopias generally are in a state in which everything is unpleasant or bad. But even
though these societies are complete and total opposites they can both coexist in the same society.
One part of the society can be living the high life and be on the top of the world, while the rest of
them are just left to suffer. An example of this kind of society would ... Show more content on

This group was started in 1953, by a man named Jim Jones. He chose to leave and take the followers
he gathered to the little city of Ukiah, California in 1965 (Serotonin). It was a very rural area but
soon houses went up and they had a thriving community of 141 people. It was their perfect Utopia
for about nine years; with their numbers continuing to grow, but then Jim Jones himself started to
change. Jones started deceiving people; he would make it look like he was healing people in order to
gain their trust and love, when all the cases were just made up (Serotonin). But the numbers still
continued to grow and with that Jones's power also grew over the group; they would do whatever
task they were asked of. That is where the problem came in; people stopped thinking for themselves
and let Jones do it for them. So when Jones said 'jump' they jumped, when and when Jones said
were moving to Guyana in less than a day, they moved. A little over 900 people followed Jones to
this little community South America called Guyana. What promoted this was the fact that an article
was about to be published about Jones, the article talked about how people were publically beat as a
form of punishment. How Jones would beat his kids and 'rape' members of the temple whenever he

Sir. Thomas More was the first to coin the term utopia, in his novel Utopia, written in 1516. Since
then the word has found its way into everyday language. Utopia is now commonly defined as a
society or state in which everything is ideally perfect. This definition derived from the encounters
that More described in his novel of a Utopian society that is based on rational thought, communal
property, great productivity, no insatiable love of wealth, no class distinctions, no poverty, religious
tolerance, little crime, moral behavior and little inclination to war. Its counterpart, dystopia is
defined as an oppressive society that uses control tactics and propaganda to suppress and
dehumanize its members. An omnipotent and omniscient leader, who ... Show more content on

It is a difficult concept to grasp or even try to create when there is no quintessential model for what
this society would be like. This can be used to explain the wave of interest in dystopia that has
surfaced. The reality is, we have accepted that a utopia is unattainable. Dystopia, contritely, is more
tangible, and it is something that can easily be attained. It is much easier to create chaos than peace.
The new wave in popular culture of dystopian films and novel, is more than a lucrative market, it
reflects the fears of people. We are not living in a utopia or a dystopia; we are living within that
spectrum, a society that contains elements of both. We may be unable to create a utopia, but we can
try to prevent a full–fledged dystopia. The societies portrayed in these dystopian novels and films
are not so absurd, they reflect possible outcomes of American. We fear the imminence of such a
society. These works of fiction that almost always end badly, reflect our fear that society will
devolve into a total dystopia, and we will not be able to fix it. It is not clear what started this new
wave of interest; however, the thought of fictitious dystopia is easier to handle than a real dystopia.
The concept behind this new allure of dystopia is not only a means to grapple with the effects, but to
prevent the occurrence of such a

Panem Dystopian Society
Usually in a utopian society the concept of it being an "ideally perfect place" is shared by all
members of the society. In Panem's case, only the rich and those in government power can really
believe that Panem is an ideal society. As shown throughout the book, most citizens that live among
the districts oppress the lifestyle that they have. Therefore, Panem can't possibly be a utopian
society; Actually, it is more of a DYSTOPIAN society. Hence, Panem is outright a dystopian society
because of the composition of social classes and the outright brutality the Hunger Games brings to
the city year after year. A critical reason why Panem is a dystopian society is the broken structure of
social classes. Specifically the lack of nourishment the districts

2BR02B: A Dystopian Society
A utopia is an imagined community or society that possesses highly desirable or nearly perfect
qualities for its citizens whereas a dystopia is an imagined place or state in which everything is
unpleasant or bad, typically being a totalitarian or environmentally degraded society. The world of
2BR02B, can be considered both a utopian, and a dystopian society. Some things about it make it
seem like that it's a perfect world but there are other aspects of it that make it seem like it's a terrible
world to live in. By considering 2BR02B a utopian society, we need to look at certain things. I
would consider it a utopian world because everything is moderated. Especially the population
because the lifespan of humans has risen to roughly 130 ish. The population is set at 40 million ...

No more. No less. This then benefits people by there always being enough food and resources for
everyone. Perfect societies work that way. There is no crime, no food shortages, no lack of anything.
The government does what it thinks that it has to do to be perfect. This story runs along the lines of
being a utopian society but does not go hand in hand with it. This is where the dystopian part comes
into play. The world of 2BR02B is trying to be this perfect world, but as the readers know, it is far
from it. For every person that is born, one has to die. That's the rule. The title of the story is actually
a phone number that everyone knows. It's the number to a place where you offer yourself to be the

nothing is perfect, the bad people live and lurk and life as people know it would cease to exist. Life
today would be turned upside down and nothing would ever be the same. But some dystopian
societies are similar to our society as well as different. There are many clear attributes and
differences in the novels Fahrenheit 451, A Night Divided, and the screenplay "2081" compared to
modern–day society, many of these involve entertainment, technology, and government.

works to conceal anything that might be different from the lifestyle taught to you. In that case,
Fahrenheit 451, Hunger games, and Hunger Games are considered a dystopian society. Author and

How Do We Create A Dystopian Society
Throughout history, many people have dreamed about and tried to create a utopian society.
However, no one yet has succeeded in creating a perfect society. Many attempts to create a utopian
society end in conflict and then society becomes dystopian again. A utopian society is an idealistic
one in which everything is perfect. A dystopian society is one that is flawed and imperfect.
Dystopias are inevitable and utopias will never exist. There have been many literary works written
about dystopian societies. Some of these literary works include The Hunger Games series by
Suzanne Collins, the Divergent series by Veronica Roth, The Giver by Lois Lowry and The Maze
Runner, by James Dashner. Other works include Animal Farm by George Orwell, Harrison ... Show

People may think this because if we took away everything that makes society corrupt, then society
would be perfect. They may also believe that without all of the imperfections, people would be less
likely to do the horrible things they do. They may also believe that one day it will be possible with
technology advancement. Maybe future earth will somehow be better and make life better. Others
may say that it would be possible but extremely difficult. None of these claims make any sense
because humans are too flawed and imperfect for this to be possible. In order for society to be
perfect, then so do the humans that live in it and run it. People will never ever be perfect, even if
some great technological advancements are made. Good things can easily become corrupted because
of the imperfections of humans. Even if there was a possibility of obtaining a perfect society, there
is no guarantee that it would ever last. Most of the utopias in history became corrupt and inevitably
became a dystopia. Utopias are idyllic and a beautiful dream, but unfortunately an unattainable one.
A utopian society will never exist because humans are too flawed. Dystopias are inevitable because
of the imperfections of human beings. People need to get a grip on reality and accept the truth that a
utopia will never exist. It's okay to dream about having a perfect society and world but it will never
happen and people

Examples Of Dystopian Society In 1984
Dystopian Societies People do not realize the dystopian environment they have grown into and
cannot imagine life's wonderful opportunistic world outside of which they live in. These people are
deceived from life's real richness and true happiness. In the novel 1984, Winston is trapped in an
oppressive lifestyle and cannot think freely without having a fear of the government vaporizing him.
Similarly, the KKK provides an inhuman and tyrannical environment towards those not of the white
race. The people that live in these societies think of them as utopias, a place that is perfect for the
citizens in the way of living and government policies. They do not realize that they are actually

This can be seen in 1984, as the government's political figure, Big Brother, provides protection and
comfort to the citizens. Big Brother can be seen all across the city on posters and is frequently talked
about between the people of Oceania. Big brother assures safety and happiness to the citizens as
well as Winston towards the end of the novel, "But it was all right, everything was all right, the
struggle was finished. He had won the victory over himself. He loved Big Brother" (Orwell 298).
This shows how Winston thinks about the possible dangers his family was in and how tough it was
for them. After, pondering about this subject for some time, he comes to the realization that he does
not need to be sad because Big Brother is always watching over him. Winston, along with many of
the others, feel that Big Brother is always watching them, which gives them a sense of safety and
security in the way that they do not have anything to worry about. Another example of how Oceania
can be looked at as a utopia is how no "crime" ever occurs within their society and country. This is
proven in the fact that anyone who tries or have attempted to rebel against the government have
been vaporized and the history of their existence has been completely changed. This can be seen
when Winston questions his job of editing Oceania's history, "And the Records Department, after all,
was itself only a single branch of the Ministry of Truth, whose primary job was not to reconstruct
the past but to supply the citizens of Oceania with newspapers, films, textbooks, telescreen
programs, plays, novels" (Orwell 42–43). This shows how everyone in 1984 does not have a reason
to be upset. This is simply because all of the negativity and rebellious acts have been removed from
their history. Oceania provides the people an enjoyable and worry–free life because all of the crime

How Would Utopus Create A Dystopian Society
Utopia is a previously inhabited piece of land conquered by King Utopus. Before Utopus seized the
land of Utopia, it was not an island. Utopia was connected to the rest of the continent. However,
Utopus arranged for his soldiers and the native settlers of the land to excavate a fifteen mile ditch.
The water surrounding the island aids the separation between Utopia and its neighbors. One side of
the water is very shallow, and on the other side, sharp rocks prevent boats from entering. So, ships
from the rest of the continent cannot navigate these waters without help from experienced Utopians.
Shaped like a crescent, the island stretches 200 feet wide to 500 feet tall. Once the fifteen mile ditch
was dug, Utopians founded fifty–four cities, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, Utopians do not engage in alliances or treaties, so the water serves as a physical separation
between Utopia and its neighbors so they do not feel pressured to engage in treaties or alliances. If
Utopia does not have a physical separation, they may feel influenced by their neighbors' behavior
and engage in treaties and alliances. Second, since the water separates Utopia from the rest of the
continent, Utopians' chances of war decrease no one surrounds them. Because the chances of war
decrease, Utopians do not necessarily need allies to defend them. More describes the Utopian belief
saying, "For to what purpose serve leagues, say they, as though nature had not set sufficient love
between man and man?" (114). They believe that if their common humanity won't unite together,
then promises won't be fulfilled. Also, Utopians do not approve of war. Therefore, the jagged rocks
and shallow water surrounding the island prevent enemies from coming onto their territory, reducing
the chances that Utopia will be attacked. Next, cities in Utopia measure equally, and a common
Utopian belief includes the concept that every citizen is equal. Because the layout of the city is
symmetrical, the layout of Utopia symbolizes the layout of how society works. Everyone is equal
and receives equal shares. Last,

when ruling emperors such as Nero ostracized his opponents, people of certain culture, and others

Furthermore, although this issue has not been focussed on as much, the way the war in Syria is
negatively impacting the west's relationships with China and Russia is very crucial also. Russia has
heavily supported Bashar al–Assad's totalitarian regime, launching bombings and assaults on not
only facilities related to jihadist groups but also on rebel strongholds. Russia is also the mighty force

characteristics as leaders and followers usually one coming out from the shade to lead their small

displays challenges of the protagonist in a fallen society. He also takes his text to the next level by
being able to display hopelessness in a series of challenges, with struggles with fear in courage as

brings all of his many different characters to life in their very own unique way. From Thomas to
newt to alby to gally they all act and develop differently throughout the book series. In book one
Gally makes himself known to Thomas as the big boss, and basically disrespects him.

Dystopian Society Research Paper
There are lots of different types of dystopian societies that find issues of today's society and just
highly exaggerate them. Some of these issues could be technology, or the government, or various
other issues that the author sees in modern day. Many authors that write fiction such as this try to
point out the issues to their readers to show them numerous different lessons. Quite often books
such as these could have a serious impact on the future even if that wasn't the original plan. Whether
these impacts are positive or negative will have to be revealed in time. Dystopian societies have a lot
of lessons to teach society that could have potentially heavy effects on the future. There are several
dystopian novels, movies, and even video game series that show society in a broken down sort of
style, or even a very complex, but secretly dark style. They do this to sometimes show that the future
can become many things if some issues of society aren't fixed. Not all authors write it for this reason
though, some authors just want to write or create an interesting story. However, some of the issues in

However, most of the negative effects only apply to people who take it too far or misunderstand
what is being told. Some people could become paranoid and stop trusting who or what is around
them. Secondly, it could give people a general distrust of what is helping society advance, such as
the government, technology, or they could begin to distrust fellow civilians. Lastly, some people
who are looking for ideas to do something bad, could get inspiration from certain novels such as
these. But, the chances of most of these occurring are highly unlikely as most average civilians
would not use these for personal benefit, destruction, or take them in a more threatening manner.

A Dystopian Society
A utopian society can only last so long before turning into something quite threatening. Dystopia is
more than likely always the outcome. In the novel Divergent by Veronica Roth it is clear that the
community's "perfect" utopian society is quickly turned into something much worse. Throughout the
novel, Roth shows signs of the loss of identity. As the characters in the book turn sixteen they must
chose one of the five factions to live the rest of their life. As the sixteen year olds leave their
families for a new faction, they tend to live a completely different lifestyle than what they grew up
in causing them to lose their past identity of who they once were. Roth also shows ... Show more

How Does The Giver Create A Dystopian Society
The reason an increasing number of novels and movies based around utopian and dystopian
societies are becoming more prominent is that these ideas are perfect for attracting additional
viewers and readers, they are unrealistic and full of action.
Body
Introducing Key Point. A common goal among our world is equality, where there is no violence or
corruption or war, bunches of people consider the world would be perfect this way, creating a
utopian society. Our world is neither a utopia or dystopia, there is war and hatred and violence, but
the environment and politics and social interaction aren't terrible enough to cause an uproar. These
contrasting concepts of society give creators something to write and to direct since the books and
movies are based on our wishes and they are fiction. They present to us a reality into these societies
and they are always action–packed and drama–filled. Authors know the idea of a perfect society
could not exist and when they create a book or movie with this society they create it drama filled
and action packed. There will always be conflict seeing as, eventually, somebody or something will
turn out different. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of a utopian society is The Giver, in it, all pain, fear, war, and hatred are eliminated so
there is no competition for all the citizens look and act basically the same. The Giver controls what
the citizens know, which is nothing about the past, eliminating disagreement. This is a utopia taking
into consideration that everyone and everything is the same. Although the new Giver, Jonas, wants
his community to be different, so it ends up being a dystopia. There is loads of action involved like
when Jonas and baby Gabriel escape into elsewhere. This is also how The Giver ends up being a

The perfect Utopian society is when everyone is equal. But is everyone truly equal? In the book
Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury, shows how quickly a society can go from Utopia to Dystopia. The
novel states how families are truly disconnected and how the society shows and hides their feelings.
Is our society like this? First of all in the book Fahrenheit 451, families aren't always there for each
other and seem to be disconnected. For example, "Go home and think of your first husband divorced
and your second husband killed in a jet and your third husband blowing his brains out, ... dozen
abortions you've had, ... and your children who hate your guts! ... think how it all happened and
what did you ever do to stop it?" (Bradbury 98). Everyone seems

Fahrenheit 451 Dystopian Society Essay
Dystopian societies and modern day societies have various opinions on what should be valued. In
the novel Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury shows a dystopian society that contrasts today's modern
day society. The concepts of knowledge and communication are shown throughout the book in
different ways than are seen in today's modern day society. Knowledge is one idea that has
conflicting meanings. The importance of knowledge is demonstrated in different ways between
dystopian society and modern day societies. The topic of lack of knowledge is presented through the
nonsignificance of books. When Montag is speaking with Beatty at the end of his history of being a
fireman, Beatty says, "We must all be alike. Not everyone born free and equal, as the constitution
says, but everyone made equal... a book is a loaded gun in the house next door. Burn it. Take a shot
from the weapons. Breach men's mind"(Bradbury 100). Since Montag and his society are not
allowed to own book, it shows that knowledge is not as enforced. Knowledge is a trait valued in
modern day society. An example of how education and knowledge is forced ... Show more content

The idea of noncommunicating with one another is average through the conversation of Montag and
Mildred. When Mildred talks to Montag she realizes that Montag listens to her talk, when she says,
"When I talk, you look at me... The others would never do that"(Bradbury 21). Not communicating
with each other is a normal thing to do in their society because it is unusual to have meaningful
conversations. Communication is well cherished in modern day society. Sarah and her family were
at a restraunt and her brother as on his phone the whole time and not engaging with others, so his
dad took away his phone. Communication with others is a key detail, because communication helps
people learns. Communication is a different in modern day societies and dystopian

Examples Of Dystopian Society In The Truman Show
The Prison Manufactured by a Dystopian Society Throughout the semester, many pieces of literature
was introduced that presented the theme of dystopian societies suppressing their citizens. These
pieces ranged from printed books describing fictional characters' struggles, to a film fabricating a
fictional, civil imprisonment of an ignorant man, and even real–world examples of governmental
control. All the authors were able to construct this idea of most commonly a government or some
sort of controlling body that had total control over the protagonist, and was able to fool the rest of
the people around the protagonist. Small indications were methodically placed in the texts to

In conclusion, because everyone is narcotized, they are not aware of the many, many wrong things
occurring in The World State. This of course expedites to the introduction of the protagonist,
Bernard Marx. Once Marx is fully cognitive about his situation, he immediately tries alarming
others. "No, the real problem is: How is it that I can't or rather–because, after all, I know quite well
why I can't– what it would be like if I could, if I were free–not enslaved by my conditioning,"
(Huxley 91). In addition to the always evident tripping on soma, all citizens of The World State are
created in test tubes and "conditioned" as fetuses to become their pre–destined social rank.
Speculations have also been spread that Bernard's conditioning had altered him to be slightly
mentally different from the rest, providing it even more difficult to make an effort to convince the
rest of his society that they are being enslaved. While away on a trip to a Savage Reservation in
New Mexico, Bernard tries to persuade Leina, a woman–friend of Bernard's, to become conscious of
her situation. Despite his clear efforts and intentions, Leina's conditioning was so strong that all she
can do is repeat the words she was hypnopӕdically taught and ignore his words. To counter–act
Bernard's words, she offers him a condolence that "Everyone is happy nowadays" (Huxley 91). This
angers Marx further and the argument persists, but

The Pros And Cons Of A Dystopian Society
Dystopia is a dehumanized society, where its society are presented to be a utopia, but everything has
become misguided towards a corrupted state. The Greek prefix 'dys' means 'ill' or 'bad' therefore
"dystopia" means a "bad place" where it's made of darkness and poverty. Its people lived under the
shadow of a totalitarian government. Dystopia is not the same thing as an anti–utopia, where anti–
utopia is on the contrary of the utopia where they initiated as a place that is the adverse of utopia,
but for dystopia, it is seen as its outer appearance to be a utopian society but in some ways it has

The person who rule the society thinks of anyone else as a lower than himself. For instance, in

cities. In The Hunger Games, only the capitol controls all the other twelve remote districts they set
the rules for every other districts to participate in the annual hunger games for their own
entertainment and they don't value people's life, they do not sympathize with anyone outside their
capitol. A Person's death does not matter to them. Furthermore, a totalitarian government can be
seen by the people in Do Androids dream of electric sheep? as well as the people in the book
Fahrenheit 451 they were prevented from thinking on their own by their government. In Fahrenheit

in Fahrenheit 451 books are prohibited if books are found in the house the firefighter's mission are

Unbiased Education In Dystopian Societies
Looking back at the past few years of books, you might notice a pattern: dystopian societies. I'm
sure that the entire population has to have at least heard about the Hunger Games, Divergent, or any
number of other titles. Yet, have you ever given any thought whatsoever to imagining yourself in
one of those broken societies? I, for one hadn't thought much about it, despite reading all of the most
recent must–reads. It brings up an interesting question: what would you be willing to stand up for, to
risk your life for, to ________ for? After looking around my house and skimming through my
mental history of the world, I decided I would fight for the freedom of speech, the right to an
unbiased education, and freedom of religion. The first thing I would rebel for is the ... Show more

Of course, this means that I would also rebel for the right to a basic education but I feel more than
that. When I say an unbiased education, I mean one where the student learns facts about the world
around them. They wouldn't be just learning the material a certain group or government wanted
them to learn, but they would know definite, indisputable facts about the world around them. This is
incredibly important because if a person isn't aware of something then how would they be able to
think for himself? I thought of this cause remembering the practices of the Nazis in Hitler Youth
groups. 97% of all teachers were part of the Nazis' Teachers Union. These children's entire education
was skewed towards the perfect Germany: Aryan supremacy, lebensraum, anything really. Even the
math problems gave examples that casually mentioned bombing Jews. The important thing here is
that it is the only thing they knew (Nazi Education). Obviously, it is incredibly horrifically, wrong,
but when you learn something from a young age and learn it so completely it's difficult to recognize
that. It is vital that learning remains unbiased and strictly

Pros And Cons Of A Dystopian Society
Introduction Utopia: Any visionary system embodying perfect political and social order. Some
might say that it is a non–existent place, because no place nor person has the ability to be perfect.
Human nature only has it to make mistakes and wrong doings from time to time. It is impossible to
think anyone can create a perfect society. Opposite terms we think of Dystopia which is undesirable.
When thinking of Dystopia I think of a communist society, where people face daily persecution for
natural conditions out of their control. Such as race, culture, and affairs.
Examples of a Utopian society include The Garden of Eden where God describes the beginning as a

and made to prosper together. I would of chosen something similar a sun type image knowing that
we start each day as a new one and never holding regret from the last one, always moving forward
to be a better nation.
Conclusion
In conclusion to a Utopian society It is entirely a fiction idea. No matter what others might try to
create and dictate, evil will always exist in the world. Overcoming these obstacles would be
impossible. Setting up a perfect world would take lots of over seeing and time to make sure the

different people have differences preferences for a dystopian and utopian society. "It is the ceremony

birthdays together, while on the other hand in modern day society, everyone celebrates their
birthdays separately. "Each December, all the new children born in the previous year turn one."

consequences in Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. In Fahrenheit 451, the government bans all
printed materials, and the firefighters are responsible to enforce the book–banning law. The
firefighters' job in this dystopian, emotionless, egalitarian society is to burn the houses that contain
books. This society depends heavily on technology, where "The Family" is an interactive television

One such character is Montag, a fireman who comes face–to–face with his vacuous society and

Montag acknowledges that the Mechanical Hound is coming for him, "He waded in and stripped in
the darkness to the skin, splashed his body, arms, legs, and head with raw liquor... and he was swept

Montag has been struggling through. The Mechanical Hound chases Montag because Montag has

Fahrenheit 451 is to seek for the truth that is hidden by the government. Furthermore, another

How Does The Giver Create A Dystopian Society
Some may argue that a utopian society is entirely possible. Utopia is defined as any visionary
system of political or social perfection. Realistically, however, such a concept is humanely
impossible and thus imaginary. The unique religious exception is considered heaven. Many pieces of
modern literature continue to capture the utopian–dystopian belief, in which the author demonstrates
that an artificial utopia will undoubtedly lead to a dystopian future. The detriments of such societies
are illustrated in the rebellions of Jonas, the main character in Lois Lowry's most well known novel,
"The Giver". Moreover, the same concept is shown in a form of a political system, none other than
Communism, which was brought into existence by German philosopher ... Show more content on

Karl Marx's communist society is in the anomalous position of being, at one and the same time, the
most famous of utopias and among the least known. Popular culture denotes Communism as an
inefficient and unrealistic standard of living, and rightly so. However, Karl Marx's initial conception
of Communism was supposed to replicate a real life utopia, where equality amongst citizens was the
primary value. Communism would thus be a classless, stateless, humane society erected on common
ownership and the principle of "From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs".
Theoretically, this would inspire cooperation and ultimately, a utopian society where everyone is
kept content. However, the conception of Communism also brought with it an underlying risk of
corruption. This is the main reason why Communism fell; the once enticing idea of Communism
was now transformed into a system of grand corruption, one that would gradually morph into the
well known concept of Dictatorship. This is the case for several countries around the world such as
North Korea, China, Cuba, and the formerly known Soviet Union (now Russia). In a dictatorship,
loyalty is the most valued trait and so Communist regimes were dominated by loyal but incompetent
bureaucrats. Dictatorships undermined individual support for the

Many novels, as well as video games, deal with texts of the dystopic genre. Dystopia has become an
instrumental form of literature in all countries; however, some texts are better at relaying their
message than others. For example, in the video game, The Last of Us, the two protagonists, one
adult male and one young girl, fight through hordes of "the infected". They do so in order to save
mankind from utter extinction. Despite being a video game, this text captures the quintessential
elements needed in order to become a relatable piece of work and does so by making both Joel and

He soon approaches what looks like an injured man; however, the man was not injured and attempts

in dystopian societies. In an attempt to preserve what human kindness Joel has left , he ends up in a
situation much like that of Richards in The Running Man, creating a similarity in the two story arcs.
The use of cliché as a rhetoric device is present in both Richards, and Joel and Eli's lives, and serves
as one of the reasons why both story arcs hold the attention of the player/reader. However, The Last
of Us serves as a much more relatable situation for the player than that of the reader of Stephen
King's famous novel, due to the realism and player emersion that the game provides. The Last of Us
puts the dystopian society into the hands of anyone that can hold a controller, yet still provides a
meaningful plot with character development to bout. The length of the game in itself is an effective
way to persuade the player of its meaning, and the dangers of a potential future. For the average
player, it can take anywhere from 15 to 30 hours of playing time to complete the storyline for The
Last of Us, constantly driving home the nature of the dystopian society. The fact that The Last of Us
is a video game too makes it much more accessible and appealing to the younger generations. While
Stephen King is a legendary author in his own right, it can be intimidating for someone to read one
of his novels. Along with this comes the general growth of technology, and the fact that paperbacks
are soon becoming irrelevant. The dramatic increase in technology makes a video game much more
likely to get selected over a novel for leisure, regardless of the topic that each chooses to address.
This is what makes The Last of Us a more realistic option for the spreading awareness of

The Giver Comparison To A Dystopian Society
Two Become One
"Dystopia contains a little utopia, and every utopia contains a little dystopia. It's very true", a
thought by Margaret Atwood, a canadian novelist, stating that in every society, utopian and
dystopian qualities are seen. Margaret brings to account the controversy of how our world is a
dystopia and utopia. There is always an illusion of a utopia and dystopia in the world, without those
illusions the world would not contain the beauty it is today. In both societies there are similar and
different aspects to a dystopia and utopian world at the cause of suicide, and the abundance of
individuality.

Compare And Contrast Fahrenheit 451 Dystopian Society
Dystopian societies are "perfect" to the people who live in them. There are many differences

disabilities like someone with really bad back problems can get a handicap sticker for their car and
can park closer to the store so they have to walk less. The major difference between handicaps in
2081 and modern American society is that in 2081 handicaps stop people from doing things but in
modern American society handicaps help people. "They were equal every which way. Nobody was
smarter than anybody else. Nobody was better–looking than anybody else. Nobody was stronger or
quicker then anybody else"(2081 1) But there are also some similarities between the two. v In 2081
handicaps are attached to people and they can take them off when they are home, just like in modern
American society you can take your handicaps off at

It Is Impossible To Create A Dystopian Society

  • 1. It Is Impossible To Create A Dystopian Society According to the Webster Dictionary the definition of utopia is "...a place of ideal perfection especially in laws, government, and social conditions..." (Merriam–Webster) . If utopia is really perfection what happens when there is trouble in a utopia? Does that utopia suddenly become a dystopia because it is not as perfect as it may seem? Thomas More's Utopia included these characteristics, it also contained some unfavorable characteristics as well. A few of these dystopian characteristics include slavery, land conquering, and social isolation when sick (More). Although there are many characteristics of dystopia are intertwined with the utopian characteristics they are of not what makes a utopia a utopia. There are many characteristics of the ideal utopia spread over societies and times. Many characteristics include a peaceful government, access to healthcare as well as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Every Utopia has certain characteristics that are almost a universal theme, but many of More's characteristics were new for the age that he was writing in. Many universal themes included the ideas of having an abundant amount of food, and shelter, and the lack of fear. The residents of More's island were able to achieve many of these ideas especially having an abundant amount of food. This abundance of food offers many different advantages to the residents. This food limits the amount of fighting over land between residences. Without the fear of food need the scramble for land disappears. Another advantage of More's island is that the residents are eating out of a communal pantry, which limits the stress of people. By having a communal pantry the residents do not need to constantly worry about farming, hunting, scavenging because they are all together ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Utopia Vs Dystopian Society As time goes on, attempts at a utopian society have failed and that means that not only have utopias been created but that dystopias have arrised. Each one is set and planned to be a utopia that only ends up taking another course and turning into a dystopian society. Utopia simply means "an ideal place or state", where as a dystopia is the opposite ("utopia"). Dystopias is "a society characterized by human misery, as squalor, oppression, disease, and overcrowding" ("dystopia"). Utopias usually end up becoming dystopias because everyone has their own vision of what they want their "perfect" place to be. Somebody's perfect form of life is different than another person's form or vision. A utopia is supposed to accommodate to everyone in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They believe that their life is fine and there is nothing that they should worry about in Oceania. A little farther into the book Orwell mentions, "If you want to keep a secret, you must also hide it from yourself"(Orwell). This tells us that even if the citizens of Oceania even tried to think of a way to rebel against Big Brother it would not work. By the time they finished their plan they would execute in order to take back control of their society the Thought Police would have already caught them and they would be in prison or a camp for thought crime. The people are under so much control that they think it would be better off if they don't rebel. They care content and perfectly fine with the way they live because they know if they do rebel then it won't turn out very well. We see that the government controls them with slogans and doublespeak. The proles are content with life and that's how Big Brother wants it to be. If they stay content and ignorant then the government already has full control over them and they are certain that everything is amazing. Oceania depicts traits of a dystopia by keeping constant surveillance on their citizens and destroying free thought. Winston informs us, "It was terribly dangerous to let your thoughts wander when you were in any public place or within range of a telescreen. The smallest thing could give you away. • 3. Pros And Cons Of Living In A Dystopian Society Introduction Utopias and dystopias are both literary genres that explore the social and political structures of a specific society. A utopia is a perfect world or paradise. It is an imaginary place where there is no poverty, disease, discrimination or war. Utopias consist of peaceful governments that have ideal economic and social conditions. All citizens are equal, there is access to education, and healthcare, and the environment is safe for all that live there. A dystopia is the opposite of utopia; it is an imperfect world where things have gone wrong. In a dystopian world people are usually controlled by an oppressive government. The government uses lies and propaganda to control the minds of the citizens. Many things are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The defining characteristic is inner peace, love, and a sense of purpose for those that can find it. Another example of a utopia is The Giver by Lois Lowery. The Giver is the story of a boy named Jonas that lives in a community that has converted to Sameness. • 5. Similarities Between Utopia And Dystopian Society What do you know about a Utopian and Dystopian society? Some people may think that a Utopian society such as ¨The Giver¨ society is more significant because the society has control and equality but why? The society that is proclaimed to be perfect isn´t so perfect after all. The Giver society and our society today have many things that are different such as leadership, freedom, and laws. But also have some things in common. The Givers society and the society we live in today have differences but also similarities such as who is the leader or figurehead in the community. The leader in our society is the President. The President approves or veto´s the laws that the branches of government make. But in ¨The Giver¨ the figurehead is The Chief ... • 6. Pros And Cons Of A Dystopian Society Katie Rogers PSY 379 Professor Rottman 12/18/15 Final Paper A utopian society is seen as the ideal future for the world. However, very few people can actually agree on what this utopian society should look like or how it should be brought about. To make things more complicated, some people's view of a utopian world is another's view of a dystopia one. Yet, by understanding and working with those of differing views, it is possible to at the very least take a large step towards creating that utopia world. I believe that this first step is to have a world where the human race manages to coexist with nature; a world where wildlife conservation and mass extinctions are no longer a major issue. As this is the only Earth we have and the other animals ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is likely due to out–group degradation. We tend to not feel as motivated to help people who are part of a different social or cultural group compared to those who are part of our own group (Cikara et al., 2011). This disconnect would definitely increase when the differences span across species and not just social or cultural groups. Therefore, to even begin getting people to care about the human– induced plight experienced by animals, I will have to get people to see animals as part of their in– group. This can be done in a number of ways. While I can definitely work on getting people to take the perspective of animals by running simulations or increasing contact with wild animals as has been shown to work in the past with different human social groups (Cikara et al., 2011), it is not really feasible to attempt to do this for the whole world. A better way to achieve this goal might be to create fictional stories that have the main characters interacting with animals that have been driven from there homes by humans or have lost their family members due to human influences to the environment as fictional story–telling where the main character interacts with stigmatized groups has been shown to decrease out–group degradation (Vezzali et al., 2015). This would also make it easy for the whole world to have access to the stories without having to directly engage with every social group in the world. However, this decrease in out–group degradation only really occurred when discussion sessions occurred after reading the passages, so these discussion sessions would also likely be necessary (Vezzali et al., ... • 7. Pros And Cons Of A Dystopian Society Many of us focus on trying to see the positive side of things, but the truth is that sometimes we need to open our eyes, and notice the negative activities surrounding our world. Once we comprehend what is negatively affecting our world, then we should find a way to fix it, and shape the world. Finally, after we have done all of that, then maybe we can have a better world, but having a utopian society just seems way out of our reach. A dystopian society, just like the one in the novel divergent, definetely is different from our modern–day society, but our society dosen't neceseraly stay behind On the novel divergent, the society seems out of control, it feels like it is a place where you can't be feeling safe for a second. • 8. Pros And Cons Of A Dystopian Society "The choice for mankind lies between freedom and happiness and for the great bulk of mankind, happiness is better" (Orwell 262). For many people a perfect Utopia requires both happiness and freedom, but what is a Utopia? A Utopia is a made up place or state, in which everything in it is considered to be perfect. But on the other hand we have a Dystopia, which is generally what Utopias become. Dystopias generally are in a state in which everything is unpleasant or bad. But even though these societies are complete and total opposites they can both coexist in the same society. One part of the society can be living the high life and be on the top of the world, while the rest of them are just left to suffer. An example of this kind of society would ... It was a very rural area but soon houses went up and they had a thriving community of 141 people. It was their perfect Utopia for about nine years; with their numbers continuing to grow, but then Jim Jones himself started to change. Jones started deceiving people; he would make it look like he was healing people in order to gain their trust and love, when all the cases were just made up (Serotonin). But the numbers still continued to grow and with that Jones's power also grew over the group; they would do whatever task they were asked of. That is where the problem came in; people stopped thinking for themselves and let Jones do it for them. So when Jones said 'jump' they jumped, when and when Jones said were moving to Guyana in less than a day, they moved. A little over 900 people followed Jones to this little community South America called Guyana. • 9. Gattaca Dystopian Society Sir. Thomas More was the first to coin the term utopia, in his novel Utopia, written in 1516. Since then the word has found its way into everyday language. Utopia is now commonly defined as a society or state in which everything is ideally perfect. This definition derived from the encounters that More described in his novel of a Utopian society that is based on rational thought, communal property, great productivity, no insatiable love of wealth, no class distinctions, no poverty, religious tolerance, little crime, moral behavior and little inclination to war. Its counterpart, dystopia is defined as an oppressive society that uses control tactics and propaganda to suppress and dehumanize its members. An omnipotent and omniscient leader, who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is a difficult concept to grasp or even try to create when there is no quintessential model for what this society would be like. This can be used to explain the wave of interest in dystopia that has surfaced. The reality is, we have accepted that a utopia is unattainable. Dystopia, contritely, is more tangible, and it is something that can easily be attained. It is much easier to create chaos than peace. The new wave in popular culture of dystopian films and novel, is more than a lucrative market, it reflects the fears of people. We are not living in a utopia or a dystopia; we are living within that spectrum, a society that contains elements of both. We may be unable to create a utopia, but we can try to prevent a full–fledged dystopia. The societies portrayed in these dystopian novels and films are not so absurd, they reflect possible outcomes of American. We fear the imminence of such a society. These works of fiction that almost always end badly, reflect our fear that society will devolve into a total dystopia, and we will not be able to fix it. In Panem's case, only the rich and those in government power can really believe that Panem is an ideal society. As shown throughout the book, most citizens that live among the districts oppress the lifestyle that they have. Therefore, Panem can't possibly be a utopian society; Actually, it is more of a DYSTOPIAN society. Hence, Panem is outright a dystopian society because of the composition of social classes and the outright brutality the Hunger Games brings to the city year after year. Big brother assures safety and happiness to the citizens as well as Winston towards the end of the novel, "But it was all right, everything was all right, the struggle was finished. He had won the victory over himself. He loved Big Brother" (Orwell 298). This shows how Winston thinks about the possible dangers his family was in and how tough it was for them. After, pondering about this subject for some time, he comes to the realization that he does not need to be sad because Big Brother is always watching over him. Winston, along with many of the others, feel that Big Brother is always watching them, which gives them a sense of safety and security in the way that they do not have anything to worry about. Another example of how Oceania can be looked at as a utopia is how no "crime" ever occurs within their society and country. This is proven in the fact that anyone who tries or have attempted to rebel against the government have been vaporized and the history of their existence has been completely changed. This can be seen when Winston questions his job of editing Oceania's history, "And the Records Department, after all, was itself only a single branch of the Ministry of Truth, whose primary job was not to reconstruct the past but to supply the citizens of Oceania with newspapers, films, textbooks, telescreen programs, plays, novels" (Orwell 42–43). This shows how everyone in 1984 does not have a reason to be upset. This is simply because all of the negativity and rebellious acts have been removed from their history. Second, since the water separates Utopia from the rest of the continent, Utopians' chances of war decrease no one surrounds them. Yet, have you ever given any thought whatsoever to imagining yourself in one of those broken societies? I, for one hadn't thought much about it, despite reading all of the most recent must–reads. It brings up an interesting question: what would you be willing to stand up for, to risk your life for, to ________ for? After looking around my house and skimming through my mental history of the world, I decided I would fight for the freedom of speech, the right to an unbiased education, and freedom of religion. The first thing I would rebel for is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Of course, this means that I would also rebel for the right to a basic education but I feel more than that. When I say an unbiased education, I mean one where the student learns facts about the world around them. They wouldn't be just learning the material a certain group or government wanted them to learn, but they would know definite, indisputable facts about the world around them. This is incredibly important because if a person isn't aware of something then how would they be able to think for himself? I thought of this cause remembering the practices of the Nazis in Hitler Youth groups. 97% of all teachers were part of the Nazis' Teachers Union. These children's entire education was skewed towards the perfect Germany: Aryan supremacy, lebensraum, anything really. Even the math problems gave examples that casually mentioned bombing Jews. The important thing here is that it is the only thing they knew (Nazi Education). Obviously, it is incredibly horrifically, wrong, but when you learn something from a young age and learn it so completely it's difficult to recognize that. It is vital that learning remains unbiased and strictly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Pros And Cons Of A Dystopian Society Introduction Utopia: Any visionary system embodying perfect political and social order. Some might say that it is a non–existent place, because no place nor person has the ability to be perfect. Human nature only has it to make mistakes and wrong doings from time to time. It is impossible to think anyone can create a perfect society. Opposite terms we think of Dystopia which is undesirable. When thinking of Dystopia I think of a communist society, where people face daily persecution for natural conditions out of their control. Such as race, culture, and affairs. Examples of a Utopian society include The Garden of Eden where God describes the beginning as a perfect society where no evil existed and was unheard of. Conclusion In conclusion to a Utopian society It is entirely a fiction idea. No matter what others might try to create and dictate, evil will always exist in the world. Overcoming these obstacles would be impossible. Setting up a perfect world would take lots of over seeing and time to make sure the utopian society would not fail. The Giver Comparison To A Dystopian Society Everybody has a different opinion on a utopian and dystopian society, Jonas's has a little of both. However, some things are alike some are also different. While modern society is similar in some ways to Jonas's society, the differences in birthdays, jobs, and mourning death reveal how different people have differences preferences for a dystopian and utopian society. "It is the ceremony that I am apprehensive about. It's almost December." However, modern society celebrates birthdays individually. Jonas's society shows that there is no individuality, because everyone celebrates birthdays together, while on the other hand in modern day society, everyone celebrates their birthdays separately. "Each December, all the new children born in the previous year turn one." Birthdays are celebrated on the actual anniversary of the birth. • 33. Fahrenheit 451 Dystopian Society Quotes The Dystopian Society According to German author, Heinrich Heine, "Where they have burned books, they will end in burning human beings." This quote relates to the book burning and the consequences in Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. In Fahrenheit 451, the government bans all printed materials, and the firefighters are responsible to enforce the book–banning law. The firefighters' job in this dystopian, emotionless, egalitarian society is to burn the houses that contain books. This society depends heavily on technology, where "The Family" is an interactive television wall. Guy Montag is a well–respected senior fireman; however, he starts to question the government after meeting the radical Clarisse. He starts to read confiscated books and decides ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One such character is Montag, a fireman who comes face–to–face with his vacuous society and starts to search for his new identity. For example, he begins to question the role of firemen after meeting Clarisse. He becomes a new person when he questions himself and those around him. After Montag acknowledges that the Mechanical Hound is coming for him, "He waded in and stripped in the darkness to the skin, splashed his body, arms, legs, and head with raw liquor... and he was swept away in the dark" (Bradbury 133). While it may seem that Montag is simply cleansing himself to confuse the Mechanical Hound, it can be taken deeper to show that Montag is transforming into a new person. The Mechanical Hound's insistent chasing of Montag symbolizes the thoughts that Montag has been struggling through. The Mechanical Hound chases Montag because Montag has turned to ideals oppositional to the social norm. Therefore, the purpose of Montag's existence in Fahrenheit 451 is to seek for the truth that is hidden by the government. Furthermore, another character in the novel is Mildred. She represents the mindlessness of the dystopian society. For instance, when Montag and Mildred are having a discussion, she says, "I meant to tell you. Forgot. Forgot...McClellan. Run over by a car. • 34. How Does The Giver Create A Dystopian Society Some may argue that a utopian society is entirely possible. Utopia is defined as any visionary system of political or social perfection. Realistically, however, such a concept is humanely impossible and thus imaginary. The unique religious exception is considered heaven. Many pieces of modern literature continue to capture the utopian–dystopian belief, in which the author demonstrates that an artificial utopia will undoubtedly lead to a dystopian future. The detriments of such societies are illustrated in the rebellions of Jonas, the main character in Lois Lowry's most well known novel, "The Giver". Moreover, the same concept is shown in a form of a political system, none other than Communism, which was brought into existence by German philosopher ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Karl Marx's communist society is in the anomalous position of being, at one and the same time, the most famous of utopias and among the least known. Popular culture denotes Communism as an inefficient and unrealistic standard of living, and rightly so. However, Karl Marx's initial conception of Communism was supposed to replicate a real life utopia, where equality amongst citizens was the primary value. Communism would thus be a classless, stateless, humane society erected on common ownership and the principle of "From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs". Theoretically, this would inspire cooperation and ultimately, a utopian society where everyone is kept content. However, the conception of Communism also brought with it an underlying risk of corruption. This is the main reason why Communism fell; the once enticing idea of Communism was now transformed into a system of grand corruption, one that would gradually morph into the well known concept of Dictatorship. This is the case for several countries around the world such as North Korea, China, Cuba, and the formerly known Soviet Union (now Russia). In a dictatorship, loyalty is the most valued trait and so Communist regimes were dominated by loyal but incompetent bureaucrats. Dictatorships undermined individual support for the ... • 35. Dystopian Society Many novels, as well as video games, deal with texts of the dystopic genre. Dystopia has become an instrumental form of literature in all countries; however, some texts are better at relaying their message than others. For example, in the video game, The Last of Us, the two protagonists, one adult male and one young girl, fight through hordes of "the infected". They do so in order to save mankind from utter extinction. Despite being a video game, this text captures the quintessential elements needed in order to become a relatable piece of work and does so by making both Joel and Ellie (the protagonists) truthful characters. He soon approaches what looks like an injured man; however, the man was not injured and attempts to kill Joel and Ellie to steal his truck. This is a prime example of the modified human nature present in dystopian societies. In an attempt to preserve what human kindness Joel has left , he ends up in a situation much like that of Richards in The Running Man, creating a similarity in the two story arcs. The use of cliché as a rhetoric device is present in both Richards, and Joel and Eli's lives, and serves as one of the reasons why both story arcs hold the attention of the player/reader. However, The Last of Us serves as a much more relatable situation for the player than that of the reader of Stephen King's famous novel, due to the realism and player emersion that the game provides. The Last of Us puts the dystopian society into the hands of anyone that can hold a controller, yet still provides a meaningful plot with character development to bout. The length of the game in itself is an effective way to persuade the player of its meaning, and the dangers of a potential future. For the average player, it can take anywhere from 15 to 30 hours of playing time to complete the storyline for The Last of Us, constantly driving home the nature of the dystopian society. The fact that The Last of Us is a video game too makes it much more accessible and appealing to the younger generations. While Stephen King is a legendary author in his own right, it can be intimidating for someone to read one of his novels. Along with this comes the general growth of technology, and the fact that paperbacks are soon becoming irrelevant. The dramatic increase in technology makes a video game much more likely to get selected over a novel for leisure, regardless of the topic that each chooses to address. This is what makes The Last of Us a more realistic option for the spreading awareness of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It's very true", a thought by Margaret Atwood, a canadian novelist, stating that in every society, utopian and dystopian qualities are seen. Margaret brings to account the controversy of how our world is a dystopia and utopia. There is always an illusion of a utopia and dystopia in the world, without those illusions the world would not contain the beauty it is today. In both societies there are similar and different aspects to a dystopia and utopian world at the cause of suicide, and the abundance of individuality. There are many differences between dystopian society and modern American society such as the first responders in Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, handicaps in the film 2081, and slaves in the novel Strike by D.J. MacHale. In the dystopian novel fahrenheit 451 written Ray Bradbury the first responders are not different and similar to modern American society.
