Julie Andrews, James Earl Jones, And Jim Parsons
If one would to ask you how Julie Andrews, James Earl Jones, and Jim Parsons have anything in
common, the simplest answer besides them all having a name that start with a J, is that they re among
the many actors and actresses that enjoy successful careers both on stage and on screen. Although film
acting differs from stage acting, the practice can still equip an actor to excel at both. But the point at
hand is still at question, just how do these two different forms of entertainment both come together
with their similarities, but yet separate when it comes to their differences?
Well, for starters, The biggest difference between acting for stage versus acting for screen is the
location of the audience. In a theatre, the stage tends to be far away from the audience. Depending on
the size of the theatre, the actors need to exaggerate their facial expressions and gestures so even the
people towards the back of the theatre can see what s going on. For example, actors cannot express
sadness with just a single tear onstage, since only the audience members closest to the stage will see it,
leaving everyone else in a world of confusion as to what is going on right in front of them.
When acting on screen, however, the camera can get extremely close to the actor, which closes the gap
between the audience and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For each live theatre performance, actors have just one chance to get thing in order before they get on
stage to perform. That s why it is so important to have a strong and healthy voice, and to ensure that
lines are memorized. Depending on the show or production budget, microphones may or may not be
used during a performance. Even with a microphone, actors must practice and perform their lines
accurately each time, with crisp diction and clear enunciation. In musicals, actors must get their notes
and lyrics correct on the first try. There are no do overs during a live theatre

Game Over Changing Perspective On Tennis
Game Over Changing Perspectives During our sixth session of tennis practice, I decided that the class
should start to play real games instead of just practicing. Anna! Roman! Get ready to play! I said as I
called Anna and Roman to the tennis court to play a game.
Ryan! Vera! Get ready to play! said I in Russian as usual. Ryan did not play well, and for some reason,
he copied everything that Vera had done. He did not stand a chance against Vera s serving, but we all
still encouraged him.
Go Ryan! The class yelled.
He missed the next four serves and he ended up losing the game. Afterwards, the game then ended
with Ryan losing. He was very slow on the court I said Ok children, go sit on ... Show more content on

Ryan said in a mad voice, No!
My name is, Ryan said scratching his brown hair, Ryan Moop
All of the students were shocked, Roman, Vera, Anna, Marta, Alex, and even me that Ryan did not
speak Russian like the rest of the class. This whole time, he was pretending to know what we were all
talking about. All of the tips and all of the training he was given, he could not understand. He was not
getting any better at tennis because he could not understand what he was being taught.
Ryan said frowning, You can all make fun of me now.
Walking towards him was the rest of the class. The students comforted him, telling him that it was no
big deal and that they would not of cared that he did not speak Russian.
Putting my hands on his shoulders, I said Ok Class, we will be using english from now on then.

Brahms’ “Wie Melodien” Op. 105 Essay
The lyrics for Brahms Wie Melodien Op. 105, No. 1 are from a poem written by Klaus Groth. It is a
poem that never clearly states its true meaning. Instead, it arouses an emotional feeling of one
dreaming about something from the past. And, these emotional feelings are expressed in Groth s poem
through a variety of images. The poem begins with using melodies as an image. In the first phrase,
Like melodies draw it to me softly through the mind, the word melodies seems to be symbolic of
thoughts or memories. These melodies are like a tune that you cannot get out of your head, a memory
that he is unable to forget. In his next phrase, Like spring flowers blossom it and floats like a scent
away, he uses the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, it is not a bitter loss. Instead, the memory of that love continues to remain with him like a
sweet fragrance. Groth s reference to a moist eye also seems to symbolize how the memory of this lost
love continues to remain fresh (moist referring to something fresh in difference to stale) in his eyes.
And at the same time, moist eye represents when an emotion is so strong (either happy or sad) that it
brings tears to one s eyes. Brahms vocal and piano accompaniment do not fail to capture and express
this imagery of the poem. One example of the vocal line capturing one of the poem s images is in m.
41. Here, the vocal line is falling in register, painting an image of how a tear might fall. Another
example where the vocal line supports the imagery of the text is when the text is talking about how it
floats like a scent away and vanishes like a breath in m. 10 and m. 23. The same text appears twice
here and when it is repeated the second time it can be heard like an echo to the first statement, as it
fades away and becomes lower in register at the end of the phrase. This echo that fades away supports
the images in the text of floating away and vanishing. The piano accompaniment also assists in
expressing the poem s imagery. Most of this Lied is quarter notes in the voice with eighth notes in

The Role Of Psyche In C. S Lewis Till We Have Faces
The novel, Till We Have Faces by C.S Lewis, is a reiteration of the famous myth of Cupid and Psyche.
In this first partitioned piece of the novel, the book takes perspective from the ugly stepsister; Orual,
who lives in the kingdom of Glome (Connects to Hellenistic Greece). Orual has a single parent: her
father, who takes no pride in associating himself with either of his daughters. Additionally, Orual has a
wise old slave named Fox who plays as the deuteragonist. Psyche is introduced into the novel as the
tragic hero. Soon after Psyche is introduced, the kingdom of Glome begins to crumble: plagues curse
the land, a lack livestock, and grain along with a drought that outlasted any other. Psyche is said to be
the poison tainting their land, and they must offer her up to the god s to restore peace, We must find
the Accursed. And she must die by the rite of the Great Offering (Lewis 54). ... Show more content on

For instance, through my so called childhood, I had to overcome a lot of turmoil most kids wouldn t
have to; my brother s father taking the life of himself and another, inadvertently leaving my brother
and I with some issues. Not only this, but also having our birth mother leave our family a year ago,
leaving my own father and brother self destructive. These misfortunes have left me in a state of decay,
some days feeling as though I am just a lifeless cadaver. Much like Orual had probably felt when she
was going to be setting out to pinpoint her sacrificial sisters remains, I could see nothing in the whole
world for me to do once this was accomplished.[...] this was the barrier between me and the dead
desert which my life must be (Lewis 102). This quotation depicts how Orual was feeling about the
situation, the feeling of emptiness and lack of purpose in life is what I think I crave to read

Compare and Contrast Essay of Rikki Tikki Tavi
Many people assume that the book and movie of the same story are always very similar, but they are
incorrect. In my comparison of the short story Rikki tikki tavi by Rudyard Kipling and the movie of
Rikki tikki tavi, I found them to be rather different. There were many minor differences, but the three
main topics in the short story that clearly differentiate it from the movie are the setting, the character
traits, and the use of humor. The setting in the movie differs from the setting in the short story in a few
ways. The setting in the movie dives into larger detail in many of the scenes such as in the beginning
flood scene. The flood scene setting in the movie reveals an eerie, strong, storm with a flood that
resembles a river and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From the very beginning, the character traits in the movie differ from those portrayed in the short
story. The ways in which they differ include the various switched roles of characters and other aspects
including age and clothing. One of the switched roles is right in the beginning of the movie when the
father lifts up Rikki from the sand, whereas in the short story the mother picks him up. Another
switched role would be when Darzee s wife explains what happened to their baby egg that was eaten
by Nag, but in the short story Darzee does the explaining. One last switched role I came across was
how Nag is the instigator who wanted to take over the garden, but in the story it is Nagaina. Some
other differences include the age of Teddy and the clothing of the family. In the short story, Rudyard
Kipling creates Teddy as a young toddler, using words such as nursery to describe the room where he
sleeps, but in the movie Teddy appears to be almost ten years old with his fancy clothing and tall
height. Surprisingly, the family in the movie wears very nice, neat clothing. This is surprising because
of the way Rudyard Kipling describes the setting. With sand, dirt, and a garden, you would presume
that it would be a humid climate, which would result in the wearing of sandals and shorts. However, in
the movie

Reasons For The Assassination Of John F. Kennedy
November 22, 1963; a date which will forever go down in history as one of the most life changing
events of America s past. On this day, the assassination of John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the
United States, left America as a collective whole melancholy, enraged, speechless, lost, and, quiet
obviously, alarmed. While many believe that the assassination of JFK occurred because of multiple
assassins, there is simply not enough hard evidence to prove that this idealistic conspiracy is in fact
the truth. Through a substantial amount of evidence and facts, it is proven that Lee Harvey Oswald
assassinated JFK on his own as the lone ranger, without aid from organized criminals or pro castro and
anti Castro supporters.

Advent Wreath Speech
The Advent Wreath
Introduction
Most have seen the greenery with the candles in December leading up to Christmas, but few know the
truth that surrounds the Advent wreath. Even though it has been used since the Middle Ages, the true
origins of the Advent wreath are unclear. There is some evidence to suggest that pre Christian
Germanic peoples would use wreaths with lit candles during the depressive December in order to
remind them of hope in the future and the days of spring with warm and sunlit filled days. By the
Middle Ages, Christians soon transformed this tradition and began to use Advent wreaths as part of the
preparation for Christmas, in the spiritual sense.
The Advent wreath is represented by a wreath, three purple candles and one rose candle for each week
of the Advent Season with a fifth white candle in the center. Each candle on the Advent wreath is
meant to represent 1,000 years. When the four candles are added together, they represent the 4,000
years, in Biblical time, between Adam and Eve to the coming of the Savior, whose birth was
prophesied in the Old Testament of the Bible. The 4,000 years that humanity had to wait for the
coming of the world s Savior is signified by those four candles. Despite the origin of the Advent
wreath, its parts, the wreath, the colored candles and the single white candle, are all the same and each
has its own specific meaning.
Body Paragraphs The first part of an Advent wreath is the wreath itself. Reverend William

Compare And Contrast The North And South Civil War
Neither North or South was ready to go into a major war. With the North having a US Army and a US
Navy it made the North have a better advantage. Another reason that they North was at a better
advantage was because of the agricultural and industrial backing. The Southern landscape was a big
part when it came to the civil war. The South did not have any resources making it hard for both
citizens and soldiers to live. A lot of things led up to the defeat of the South and victory of the North.
The North had a Us Army that was 16,000 strong and was mostly stationed in the West, as well as the
US Navy which was small but still noticeable. While the South did not have a national army or navy.
Instead they had small state armies like the army

Humor In Mark Twain s Cannibalism In The Cars
In Mark Twain s short story, Cannibalism in the Cars , he utilizes many methods in which he depicts
humor in an intricate fashion that will bid well to readers. The strategies Twain uses within this story
can be explained in another one of his other writing pieces called How to Tell a Story , in which Twain
explains how great of an impact a humorous story holds and how the narrator must gradually lead his
audience throughout the tale. In Cannibalism in the Cars , Mark Twain makes use of such devices as
irony, paradox, and satire to create a humorous effect throughout the passages. First off, one of the
devices Twain utilizes in order to introduce the reader to the absurdity of the story is irony.
Throughout of the story, irony is conveyed through the procedure where the men within Twain s short
story decide upon who will be eaten, which turns ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through the dialogue of the characters in which one of the men may move that the nominations now

workings within Congress. As the story progresses, there are even more allusions as On the first ballot
there was a tie, half the members favoring one candidate on account of his youth, and half favoring the
other on account of his superior size (Twain). The ludicrousness of portraying cannibals acting as
politicians and politicians acting as cannibals will then add a comical effect. Therefore, Twain s
addition of satire adds to the humor of the story. In conclusion, throughout Cannibalism in the Cars ,
the devices of irony, paradoxes, and satire contribute to the humor of the story. Whether the devices
were utilized in subtlety, or were included in a blatant form, Twain cleverly structures his story in
which readers are steadily walked through and will eventually come to find a truly humorous

Essay about Alfred Wegener and the Continental Drift
Alfred Wegener was a meteorologist and astronomer. He was the first scientist to introduce the theory
of the continental drift. Wegener theorized that at one time the continents were one large landmass or
Pangaea that had drifted apart. His ideas were initially rejected by other scientists. It was not until long
after Wegener s death that proof was obtained and his theory verified.
The Life of Alfred Wegener Alfred was born in Germany in 1880 and led a very busy life. He received
a PhD in astronomy but quickly moved on to meteorology. He and his brother experimented with kites
and balloons. They set a record flying a balloon during his first expedition to Greenland in 1906 (PBS,
1998, para. 2). Alfred taught meteorology and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wegener s theory was met with much controversy by other scientists. The fact that he was primarily a
meteorologist and astronomer rather than a geologist further discounted his theory. Wegener provided
numerous explanations and documentation in support of his continental drift theory. He provided two
fossils as evidence. Glossopteris because it had been found on several continents that were widely
separated. Glossopteris, also known as a seed fern fossil, was too large to be transported by the wind.
The other was Mesosaurus which was a small aquatic freshwater reptile (Lutgens Tarbuck, 2014, p.
154). Other scientists believed this was possible because land bridges had once existed or explained it
away as drafting. Wegener most likely did not offer fossil sharks or jellyfish as evidence due to the
fact that these fish inhabit all major oceans on the planet.
He also used an Austrian geologist s theory that the continental crust, sial, was lighter than sima and
the sial layer could move across the ocean floor (Healey, 2006, para. 15). Wegener further stated that
the tides could cause the continents to move and later came to the conclusion that magma could also
be responsible for the movement. Wegener made two more journeys to Greenland to conduct
meteorological and geophysical studies. His final trek in 1930 included the examination of the glacial
sheets to provide further evidence regarding

The success of budget airlines forced traditional operators to lower their prices by adapting internet
sales and yield management techniques. However they still struggle to compete with low prices
offered by the LCCs. Further reductions in traditional airline ticket prices are expected.
The railways are likely to remain dominant for short journeys as most of the LCCs use small airports,
which are often difficult to reach without a car. Rail operators are also improving offered services and
cutting down their ticket prices by selling through the internet and allowing passengers to find lower
fares when booking in advance.
The LCCs are a serious threat to regular airlines. British Midlands responded to the competition by
launching its own budget airline bmi baby . Following its success more traditional carriers may decide
in future to launch their own no frills airlines.

Ripple Effect In The Story Of Tom Brennan
The Story of Tom Brennan illustrates how an accident can cause a ripple effect. The novel The Story
of Tom Brennan by J.C Burke demonstrates how a tragedy such as Daniel s car accident can cause
ripple effects. A tragedy is an unexpected event the leads to suffering and unhappiness, whereas a
ripple effect means how one thing can lead to another. The novel shows how this accident affected the
town of Mumbilli, the Brennan family and more specifically Daniel Brennan and Tom Brennan. This
essay will explore how this tragedy affected Tom Brennan, Daniel Brennan and the rest of the Brennan
family.
Firstly, Tom, the main protagonist of this story is affected the this accident socially. This means that
because of this tragedy, Tom finds it hard to bond with people who know about it. This is shown when
Tom is reluctant to allow the people of Coghill to know about the accident and hates her sister when
she tells them. Tom makes a fuss about Kylie [having] a bit a story to tell. He feels that she had no
fucking right because he feared that the people of Coghill will tell the Brennans [to] go home. This is
also shown when Tom hesitates to see Fin at times. Tom feels guilt for ... Show more content on

This means that because of this tragedy, Daniel is filled with guilt and gets sent to jail. This is shown
when Daniel blames himself for the mess in which he created. Due to this remorse, [Daniel has] hit

in hope that everything will be back to normal. Daniel being affected is also shown when he gets
sentenced to go to jail. He gets sentenced to two years imprisonment...with a non parole period of
three years. Although Daniel deserves the sentence it further proves how an accident could cause
someone to go to jail. This further proves that Daniel is one of the victims of the domino effect from

How Are Montresor And Fortunato Alike
Edgar Allan Poe s short story, The Cask of Amontillado, is very creepy, much like Poe s other stories.
It is about Montresor and his friend Fortunato. Fortunato plays a lot of pranks on Montresor and he
reaches his breaking point. He does not think that he should have to let Fortunato play his pranks and
Montresor feels like Fortunato is insulting to him, so he plots his revenge. He waits until a night that
Fortunato will be drunk and takes him to his wine cellar to bury him alive, in the walls, behind bricks.
THE thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as I best could, but when he ventured upon insult I
vowed revenge. You, who so well know the nature of my soul, will not suppose, however, that gave
utterance to a threat. At length I would be avenged; this was a point definitely... The theme of this
short story is getting revenge on your enemies. Edgar Allan Poe uses Montresor and Fortunato to show

It was at night, while everyone was out drinking and enjoying their holidays. Montresor killed
Fortunato in a wine cellar that was in his house. The murder was in the very back of the cellar, a hole
in the wall was cut out for the occasion. It was dark and very humid in the cellar. Fortunato knew it
was a bad idea to go into the cellar because he could get sick, his judgment was impaired due to him
being drunk. He also really wants to impress Montresor with his knowledge of wines. The murder of
Fortunato takes place in the dungeons of Montresor s Italian Renaissance styled château... The telling
of the murder takes place in Paris, and the catacombs mentioned are the so called catacombs of

The Latter Amendments Essay Draft As Ruth Bader Ginsburg once said, The greatest threat to public
confidence in elections in this case is the prospect of enforcing a purposefully discriminatory law, one
that likely imposes an unconstitutional poll tax and risks denying the right to vote to hundreds of
thousands of eligible voters (Ruth Bader Ginsburg Quote). To elaborate, the Twenty Fourth
Amendment forbids any government from making voters pay poll tax, money, or a fee to vote in any
election. This opens up the right to vote to many more American citizens of any ethnicity or gender.
To justify, a poll tax was a tax that was simply just paid for living in a taxed area, but became very ...

Toombs was known for his unfair practices to the African races, and usually if a white person could
not afford to pay their poll tax, he was also known to buy their vote and pay the tax for them. Months
after the Civil War ended, some Constitutional amendments were passed helping black rights and
giving them the freedom to vote. Southerners were afraid of all this new political power towards the
Negroes, so they did whatever they could to limit that power, and made it nearly impossible for
Negroes to vote with the new laws they passed. With the Ku Klux Klan being formed and more
discriminatory acts to interfere with black voting rights, it was not until the civil rights movements of
the 1950 s and 1960 s until the amendment was finally brought up, almost a century later. During the
Ku Klux Klan era, southerners passed laws to limit the power of African Americans, otherwise known
as black codes. They did whatever they could to limit the black s freedom, even with such small things
like requiring them to use a different water fountain or, even bigger, forcing them to pay an
unreasonable poll tax to vote. With the rise of civil rights acts though, it became harder and harder to
limit their power, and in the middle of 1962 when Congress proposed the amendment to require no fee
to vote, southerners knew that this was more of the beginning of racial movements and equal rights to
all.

Hierarchy In The Lion King
This image from the Lion King movie is an iconic image that includes all of the characters shown in
the movie. The image displays all the characters in such a way that allows the viewer to see them all
together in one place in which the background represents the setting of the movie. However, this
image can be analyzed, and this results in many of the details showing the idea of hierarchy. The
analyzation and representation of this idea takes a unique approach due to this movie being an
animated movie rather than a normal movie. Despite this unique take on the idea of hierarchy, the idea
is still easy to understand because of extra steps taken to ensure it is portrayed clearly. My image of
the Lion King shows the viewer that animals and hierarchy can be artificially represented.
It may not seem ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Michela Balconi and Silvia Pagani Recent research found that . . . status hierarchy
requires that individuals express and recognize social status signals, such as visual cues or vocal calls,
which communicate rank and convey expectations about appropriate social behavior given a
hierarchical social context (Balconi Pagani). Hierarchy may be an idea that can be noticed by external
factors such as a person s looks, but this is not always the case. This is especially true in this Lion
King image, since the characters do not wear clothes being that they are wild animals. As a result, this
other way to show hierarchy is used. If a someone is higher up in the hierarchy, the result is usually
that they are happier than other who are not as high up as they are. This causes the person that is
higher up to feel happy, while the person who is not as high up does not feel happy, in fact, they may
feel angry or like they want to get revenge, as shown by one of the hyenas in the

A Theoretical Perspective On Organisational Socialisation
Introduction Individuals spend their lives trying to fit in. Fit into their family roles, fit into their circle
of friends and fit into their workplaces. Being a part of a group, a team or an organisations provides a
sense of comfort and belonging. Furthermore, it instills confidence to carry out respective roles
efficiently. The process by which individuals incorporate themselves into society and into
organisations is defined as socialisation (Jablin 2001). Socialisation theories usually focus on paid
workers and their experiences within an organisation (Miller 2012). What they fail to consider is that
volunteers within an organisation are also equally important and in need of the same guidance and
knowledge that paid workers are provided with. Kramer (2010) brings volunteers to the forefront
stating that volunteers are an equal asset to an organisation, especially in the Non profit sector. The
purpose of this research is to explore the process of socialisation among volunteers in a Non profit
organisation. The paper will provide a theoretical perspective on Organisational Socialisation in terms
of its definition and its process. It will then examine how a particular volunteer socialisation process is
applicable in the case of a unique project conducted by a Non profit organisation. Background The
International Society is a Non profit organisation in Manchester that supports international students in
enhancing their experience while studying in the United Kingdom. It

Essay on Northwest Coast Tribal Art
Northwest Coast Tribal Masks This paper describes the Sea Bear Transformation Mask, created by
Don Svanvik in 2000, and how it reflects Northwest Coast Indian art and culture, specific to the
Kwakiutl tribe. A transformation mask is a large mask with hinged shutters that, when open, reveal
another mask. Audrey and Alan Bleviss gave this mask to the Montclair Art Museum in 2005. The
medium consists of red cedar, cedar bark, copper, pigment, and string. In the Montclair Art Museum,
the mask is displayed in its open form. The inside of the mask shows a man sitting with his legs bent
in front of him while his arms are open and stretched to his sides. His facial features consist of sharp
cheekbones, a wide triangular nose, a goat t, a thin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Much of the inside of the mask is the color of red cedar. The ovals that make up the shoulder joints are
filled in with red pigment. The formline that outlines the entire body is black and varies in thickness.
The formline is thick under the feet and around the palms of the hands. The formline around the chest
and knees is a bit thicker and is red. (www.freespiritgallery.ca) The artist made the arms and legs
transparent so the viewer is able to see the subject s skeleton. In the middle of each arm are two
spikes, one on top and one on the bottom, which represents the man s elbows. The bones of the arms
and legs are tinted a slightly darker color looking almost gray. Long strips of cedar bark that are
attached to the outside of the mask can be seen under the arms when the mask is open. While still
open, cedar bark bound together is seen on top of where the arms are placed, on both sides of the
figure s head. The three strings coming from the figure s mouth allow the mask to close, allowing it to
transform and take the shape of a different figure. The transformation mask in its closed position takes
on an entirely new character. This mask is supposed to depict a sea bear; however, its features closely
resemble that of a dragon. The subject s teeth are large and look fierce. It has two large round nostrils
and huge eyes. The cedar bark makes the subject look like it has a lion s mane. With its mouth open,

The Formation Of Prebiotic Compounds On Early Earth And...
The Formation of Prebiotic Compounds on Early Earth and in the Solar System By Trevor Harrison
GE 70A: Evolution of Cosmos and Life Scientists have long sought to understand the origin of
prebiotic compounds and its transition into self replicating biological structures, both as an
explanation for life s emergence on earth and as an assessment of the abundance of life in the solar
system and the galaxy. In 1952, Stanley L. Miller and Harold C. Urey performed experiments
demonstrating that the basic foundation of life could be formed when abiotic molecules that existed on
early Earth were jolted with appropriate amounts of energy. However, current models of the
composition of early Earth s atmosphere show that it would be difficult for amino acids to have
formed unless they did so in the deep ocean. Martins et al. (2006) explores whether these compounds
could have been formed by the impact shock of one celestial body slamming into another. Succeeding
research has investigated whether amino acids formed in space can survive the journey to Earth and
discovered, in space, some of the prebiotic compounds posited in Martins et al. Researchers theorized
that prebiotic compounds could have built up over time in the Early Earth s oceans and then been
jolted together with bicarbonate by the impact of the falling meteor. The study was successful in
producing amino acids under these conditions. No matter their source of origin on early Earth, amino
acids alone cannot form a self

Global Symposium on Engaging Men and Boys on Achieving Gender Equality
Rio de Janeiro
March 29 April 3, 2009
PART ONE: PREAMBLE
We come from eighty countries. We are men and women, young and old, working side by side with
respect and shared goals. We are active in community organizations, religious and educational
institutions; we are representatives of governments, NGOs and the United Nations. We speak many
languages, we look like the diverse peoples of the world and carry their diverse beliefs and religions,
cultures, physical abilities, and sexual and gender identities. We are indigenous peoples, immigrants,
and ones whose ancestors moved across the planet. We are fathers and mothers, daughters and sons, ...

We know how critical it is that institutions traditionally controlled by men reshape their policies and
priorities to support gender equality and the well being of women, children, and men. And we know
that a critical part of that is to reshape the world of men and boys, the beliefs of men and boys, and the
lives of men and boys.
PART TWO: THE PLAN OF ACTION
The Evidence Base is There: New initiatives and programs to engage men and boys in gender equality
provides a growing body of evidence that confirms it is possible to change men s gender related
attitudes and practices. Effective programs and processes have led men and boys to stand up against
violence and for gender equality in both their personal lives and their communities. These initiatives
not only help deconstruct harmful masculinities, but reconstruct more gender equitable ones. Global
research makes it increasingly clear that working with men and boys can reduce violence, improve
relationships, strengthen the work of the women s movement, improve health outcomes of women and
men, girls and boys, and that it is possible to accelerate this change through deliberate interventions.
Working with the Women s Movement: The work with men and boys stems from and honors the
pioneering work and ongoing leadership of the women s movement. We stand in solidarity with the
ongoing struggles for women s empowerment and rights in our commitment to contribute to the
myriad efforts to achieve

The Kansas State University Orchestra Conducted
I recently attended the Kansas State University Orchestra conducted by Dr. David Littrell and graduate
student Travis Hale. The orchestra featured four pieces, Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D Minor composed
by Johann Sebastian Bach, Petite Suite composed by Claude Debussy arranged by Henri Busser,
Overture to La Gazza Ladra (The Thieving Magpie) composed by Gioachino Rossini, and Overture to
Le roi d Ys composed by Edouard Lalo. The first piece of music performed was the Orchestral Suite
No. 3 in D Minor. The melody of this piece was very conjunct and smooth. The pitches fit together
well and were played staccato, but in the Air, portion the melody became more legato. Since a suite is
a collection of dances this is very metric. It is very easy to find a beat and tap your toe to the beat.
Every movement of this suite was very easy to find the beat. I believe the piece was in a quadruple
meter because the continuo, played by the double bass, could be counted into four. The dynamics were
very moderate staying within the range of forte and piano, which is typical of the baroque period when
this piece was written. The piece was polyphonic and each section had their own parts that worked
together to make the piece. The piece could also be considered a call and response in the Bouree and
Gigue movements. The violins and woodwinds would play a part of the melody and then the brass and
bass would come in with a short response to their melody. The next piece performed was Petite Suite

Examples Of Atonement In The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner
In the poem The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Coleridge uses the method of storytelling to
acknowledge and implement the reader into the situations that the Mariner faces. Coleridge does this
by implementing vivid imagery into his poem to create a tale that we the readers can easily follow
such as the tales we tell one another today to learn or understand different concepts in modern day life.
The concept of sin and atonement are the allegories that we learn about in The Rime of the Ancient
Mariner; we learn that with sin comes the reprimand of a supernatural figure; however the prejudice
one faces helps lead to the forgiveness the Mariner learns to find within himself. The poem contains
riot only a mysterious or supernatural element, which

  • 2. Julie Andrews, James Earl Jones, And Jim Parsons If one would to ask you how Julie Andrews, James Earl Jones, and Jim Parsons have anything in common, the simplest answer besides them all having a name that start with a J, is that they re among the many actors and actresses that enjoy successful careers both on stage and on screen. Although film acting differs from stage acting, the practice can still equip an actor to excel at both. But the point at hand is still at question, just how do these two different forms of entertainment both come together with their similarities, but yet separate when it comes to their differences? Well, for starters, The biggest difference between acting for stage versus acting for screen is the location of the audience. In a theatre, the stage tends to be far away from the audience. Depending on the size of the theatre, the actors need to exaggerate their facial expressions and gestures so even the people towards the back of the theatre can see what s going on. For example, actors cannot express sadness with just a single tear onstage, since only the audience members closest to the stage will see it, leaving everyone else in a world of confusion as to what is going on right in front of them. When acting on screen, however, the camera can get extremely close to the actor, which closes the gap between the audience and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For each live theatre performance, actors have just one chance to get thing in order before they get on stage to perform. That s why it is so important to have a strong and healthy voice, and to ensure that lines are memorized. Even with a microphone, actors must practice and perform their lines accurately each time, with crisp diction and clear enunciation. Game Over Changing Perspective On Tennis Game Over Changing Perspectives During our sixth session of tennis practice, I decided that the class should start to play real games instead of just practicing. Anna! Roman! Get ready to play! I said as I called Anna and Roman to the tennis court to play a game. Ryan! Vera! Get ready to play! said I in Russian as usual. Ryan did not play well, and for some reason, he copied everything that Vera had done. He did not stand a chance against Vera s serving, but we all still encouraged him. Go Ryan! The class yelled. He missed the next four serves and he ended up losing the game. Afterwards, the game then ended with Ryan losing. He was very slow on the court I said Ok children, go sit on ... This whole time, he was pretending to know what we were all talking about. All of the tips and all of the training he was given, he could not understand. He was not getting any better at tennis because he could not understand what he was being taught. Ryan said frowning, You can all make fun of me now. Walking towards him was the rest of the class. • 4. Brahms’ “Wie Melodien” Op. 105 Essay The lyrics for Brahms Wie Melodien Op. 105, No. 1 are from a poem written by Klaus Groth. It is a poem that never clearly states its true meaning. Instead, it arouses an emotional feeling of one dreaming about something from the past. And, these emotional feelings are expressed in Groth s poem through a variety of images. The poem begins with using melodies as an image. In the first phrase, Like melodies draw it to me softly through the mind, the word melodies seems to be symbolic of thoughts or memories. These melodies are like a tune that you cannot get out of your head, a memory that he is unable to forget. In his next phrase, Like spring flowers blossom it and floats like a scent away, he uses the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, it is not a bitter loss. Instead, the memory of that love continues to remain with him like a sweet fragrance. Groth s reference to a moist eye also seems to symbolize how the memory of this lost love continues to remain fresh (moist referring to something fresh in difference to stale) in his eyes. And at the same time, moist eye represents when an emotion is so strong (either happy or sad) that it brings tears to one s eyes. Brahms vocal and piano accompaniment do not fail to capture and express this imagery of the poem. One example of the vocal line capturing one of the poem s images is in m. 41. Here, the vocal line is falling in register, painting an image of how a tear might fall. Another example where the vocal line supports the imagery of the text is when the text is talking about how it floats like a scent away and vanishes like a breath in m. 10 and m. 23. The same text appears twice here and when it is repeated the second time it can be heard like an echo to the first statement, as it fades away and becomes lower in register at the end of the phrase. This echo that fades away supports the images in the text of floating away and vanishing. The piano accompaniment also assists in expressing the poem s imagery. Most of this Lied is quarter notes in the voice with eighth notes in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Role Of Psyche In C. S Lewis Till We Have Faces The novel, Till We Have Faces by C.S Lewis, is a reiteration of the famous myth of Cupid and Psyche. In this first partitioned piece of the novel, the book takes perspective from the ugly stepsister; Orual, who lives in the kingdom of Glome (Connects to Hellenistic Greece). Orual has a single parent: her father, who takes no pride in associating himself with either of his daughters. Additionally, Orual has a wise old slave named Fox who plays as the deuteragonist. Psyche is introduced into the novel as the tragic hero. Soon after Psyche is introduced, the kingdom of Glome begins to crumble: plagues curse the land, a lack livestock, and grain along with a drought that outlasted any other. Psyche is said to be the poison tainting their land, and they must offer her up to the god s to restore peace, We must find the Accursed. And she must die by the rite of the Great Offering (Lewis 54). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 6. Compare and Contrast Essay of Rikki Tikki Tavi Many people assume that the book and movie of the same story are always very similar, but they are incorrect. In my comparison of the short story Rikki tikki tavi by Rudyard Kipling and the movie of Rikki tikki tavi, I found them to be rather different. There were many minor differences, but the three main topics in the short story that clearly differentiate it from the movie are the setting, the character traits, and the use of humor. The setting in the movie differs from the setting in the short story in a few ways. The setting in the movie dives into larger detail in many of the scenes such as in the beginning flood scene. From the very beginning, the character traits in the movie differ from those portrayed in the short story. The ways in which they differ include the various switched roles of characters and other aspects including age and clothing. One of the switched roles is right in the beginning of the movie when the father lifts up Rikki from the sand, whereas in the short story the mother picks him up. Another switched role would be when Darzee s wife explains what happened to their baby egg that was eaten by Nag, but in the short story Darzee does the explaining. One last switched role I came across was how Nag is the instigator who wanted to take over the garden, but in the story it is Nagaina. Some other differences include the age of Teddy and the clothing of the family. In the short story, Rudyard Kipling creates Teddy as a young toddler, using words such as nursery to describe the room where he sleeps, but in the movie Teddy appears to be almost ten years old with his fancy clothing and tall height. Surprisingly, the family in the movie wears very nice, neat clothing. This is surprising because of the way Rudyard Kipling describes the setting. With sand, dirt, and a garden, you would presume that it would be a humid climate, which would result in the wearing of sandals and shorts. However, in the movie ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While many believe that the assassination of JFK occurred because of multiple assassins, there is simply not enough hard evidence to prove that this idealistic conspiracy is in fact the truth. • 10. Advent Wreath Speech The Advent Wreath Introduction Most have seen the greenery with the candles in December leading up to Christmas, but few know the truth that surrounds the Advent wreath. Even though it has been used since the Middle Ages, the true origins of the Advent wreath are unclear. There is some evidence to suggest that pre Christian Germanic peoples would use wreaths with lit candles during the depressive December in order to remind them of hope in the future and the days of spring with warm and sunlit filled days. By the Middle Ages, Christians soon transformed this tradition and began to use Advent wreaths as part of the preparation for Christmas, in the spiritual sense. The Advent wreath is represented by a wreath, three purple candles and one rose candle for each week of the Advent Season with a fifth white candle in the center. Each candle on the Advent wreath is meant to represent 1,000 years. When the four candles are added together, they represent the 4,000 years, in Biblical time, between Adam and Eve to the coming of the Savior, whose birth was prophesied in the Old Testament of the Bible. The 4,000 years that humanity had to wait for the coming of the world s Savior is signified by those four candles. Despite the origin of the Advent wreath, its parts, the wreath, the colored candles and the single white candle, are all the same and each has its own specific meaning. • 12. Humor In Mark Twain s Cannibalism In The Cars In Mark Twain s short story, Cannibalism in the Cars , he utilizes many methods in which he depicts humor in an intricate fashion that will bid well to readers. The strategies Twain uses within this story can be explained in another one of his other writing pieces called How to Tell a Story , in which Twain explains how great of an impact a humorous story holds and how the narrator must gradually lead his audience throughout the tale. In Cannibalism in the Cars , Mark Twain makes use of such devices as irony, paradox, and satire to create a humorous effect throughout the passages. First off, one of the devices Twain utilizes in order to introduce the reader to the absurdity of the story is irony. Wegener theorized that at one time the continents were one large landmass or Pangaea that had drifted apart. His ideas were initially rejected by other scientists. It was not until long after Wegener s death that proof was obtained and his theory verified. The Life of Alfred Wegener Alfred was born in Germany in 1880 and led a very busy life. He received a PhD in astronomy but quickly moved on to meteorology. He and his brother experimented with kites and balloons. Wegener s theory was met with much controversy by other scientists. The fact that he was primarily a meteorologist and astronomer rather than a geologist further discounted his theory. Wegener provided numerous explanations and documentation in support of his continental drift theory. He provided two fossils as evidence. Glossopteris because it had been found on several continents that were widely separated. Glossopteris, also known as a seed fern fossil, was too large to be transported by the wind. The other was Mesosaurus which was a small aquatic freshwater reptile (Lutgens Tarbuck, 2014, p. 154). Other scientists believed this was possible because land bridges had once existed or explained it away as drafting. Wegener most likely did not offer fossil sharks or jellyfish as evidence due to the fact that these fish inhabit all major oceans on the planet. He also used an Austrian geologist s theory that the continental crust, sial, was lighter than sima and the sial layer could move across the ocean floor (Healey, 2006, para. 15). Wegener further stated that the tides could cause the continents to move and later came to the conclusion that magma could also be responsible for the movement. Wegener made two more journeys to Greenland to conduct meteorological and geophysical studies. To elaborate, the Twenty Fourth Amendment forbids any government from making voters pay poll tax, money, or a fee to vote in any election. Southerners were afraid of all this new political power towards the Negroes, so they did whatever they could to limit that power, and made it nearly impossible for Negroes to vote with the new laws they passed. With the Ku Klux Klan being formed and more discriminatory acts to interfere with black voting rights, it was not until the civil rights movements of the 1950 s and 1960 s until the amendment was finally brought up, almost a century later. During the Ku Klux Klan era, southerners passed laws to limit the power of African Americans, otherwise known as black codes. They did whatever they could to limit the black s freedom, even with such small things like requiring them to use a different water fountain or, even bigger, forcing them to pay an unreasonable poll tax to vote. With the rise of civil rights acts though, it became harder and harder to limit their power, and in the middle of 1962 when Congress proposed the amendment to require no fee to vote, southerners knew that this was more of the beginning of racial movements and equal rights to all. ... The image displays all the characters in such a way that allows the viewer to see them all together in one place in which the background represents the setting of the movie. However, this image can be analyzed, and this results in many of the details showing the idea of hierarchy. The analyzation and representation of this idea takes a unique approach due to this movie being an animated movie rather than a normal movie. According to Michela Balconi and Silvia Pagani Recent research found that . . . status hierarchy requires that individuals express and recognize social status signals, such as visual cues or vocal calls, which communicate rank and convey expectations about appropriate social behavior given a hierarchical social context (Balconi Pagani). Hierarchy may be an idea that can be noticed by external factors such as a person s looks, but this is not always the case. This is especially true in this Lion King image, since the characters do not wear clothes being that they are wild animals. As a result, this other way to show hierarchy is used. If a someone is higher up in the hierarchy, the result is usually that they are happier than other who are not as high up as they are. This causes the person that is higher up to feel happy, while the person who is not as high up does not feel happy, in fact, they may feel angry or like they want to get revenge, as shown by one of the hyenas in the ... • 28. A Theoretical Perspective On Organisational Socialisation Introduction Individuals spend their lives trying to fit in. Fit into their family roles, fit into their circle of friends and fit into their workplaces. Being a part of a group, a team or an organisations provides a sense of comfort and belonging. Furthermore, it instills confidence to carry out respective roles efficiently. The process by which individuals incorporate themselves into society and into organisations is defined as socialisation (Jablin 2001). Socialisation theories usually focus on paid workers and their experiences within an organisation (Miller 2012). What they fail to consider is that volunteers within an organisation are also equally important and in need of the same guidance and knowledge that paid workers are provided with. Kramer (2010) brings volunteers to the forefront stating that volunteers are an equal asset to an organisation, especially in the Non profit sector. The purpose of this research is to explore the process of socialisation among volunteers in a Non profit organisation. The paper will provide a theoretical perspective on Organisational Socialisation in terms of its definition and its process. It will then examine how a particular volunteer socialisation process is applicable in the case of a unique project conducted by a Non profit organisation. Background The International Society is a Non profit organisation in Manchester that supports international students in enhancing their experience while studying in the United Kingdom. It ... The medium consists of red cedar, cedar bark, copper, pigment, and string. In the Montclair Art Museum, the mask is displayed in its open form. (www.freespiritgallery.ca) The artist made the arms and legs transparent so the viewer is able to see the subject s skeleton. In the middle of each arm are two spikes, one on top and one on the bottom, which represents the man s elbows. The bones of the arms and legs are tinted a slightly darker color looking almost gray. Long strips of cedar bark that are attached to the outside of the mask can be seen under the arms when the mask is open. While still open, cedar bark bound together is seen on top of where the arms are placed, on both sides of the figure s head. The three strings coming from the figure s mouth allow the mask to close, allowing it to transform and take the shape of a different figure. The transformation mask in its closed position takes on an entirely new character. This mask is supposed to depict a sea bear; however, its features closely resemble that of a dragon. • 30. The Formation Of Prebiotic Compounds On Early Earth And... The Formation of Prebiotic Compounds on Early Earth and in the Solar System By Trevor Harrison GE 70A: Evolution of Cosmos and Life Scientists have long sought to understand the origin of prebiotic compounds and its transition into self replicating biological structures, both as an explanation for life s emergence on earth and as an assessment of the abundance of life in the solar system and the galaxy. In 1952, Stanley L. Miller and Harold C. Urey performed experiments demonstrating that the basic foundation of life could be formed when abiotic molecules that existed on early Earth were jolted with appropriate amounts of energy. However, current models of the composition of early Earth s atmosphere show that it would be difficult for amino acids to have formed unless they did so in the deep ocean. Martins et al. (2006) explores whether these compounds could have been formed by the impact shock of one celestial body slamming into another. Succeeding research has investigated whether amino acids formed in space can survive the journey to Earth and discovered, in space, some of the prebiotic compounds posited in Martins et al. Researchers theorized that prebiotic compounds could have built up over time in the Early Earth s oceans and then been jolted together with bicarbonate by the impact of the falling meteor. The study was successful in producing amino acids under these conditions. No matter their source of origin on early Earth, amino acids alone cannot form a self ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first piece of music performed was the Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D Minor. The melody of this piece was very conjunct and smooth. The pitches fit together well and were played staccato, but in the Air, portion the melody became more legato. Since a suite is a collection of dances this is very metric. It is very easy to find a beat and tap your toe to the beat. Every movement of this suite was very easy to find the beat. I believe the piece was in a quadruple meter because the continuo, played by the double bass, could be counted into four. The dynamics were very moderate staying within the range of forte and piano, which is typical of the baroque period when this piece was written. The piece was polyphonic and each section had their own parts that worked together to make the piece. The piece could also be considered a call and response in the Bouree and Gigue movements. The violins and woodwinds would play a part of the melody and then the brass and bass would come in with a short response to their melody. The next piece performed was Petite Suite ...
